I love my Happy Dance and Happy Face, m & m looking treats. Thank you ALL for being there for me. You are the best! I wasn't tired or anything... Came home this afternoon and slept for hours. If I'm counting right, but who is counting... Those of us who started in 2012 have made it through the first year with a few call backs but no reoccurrence. Yeah for our team.
I hope everyone has a great week end.
Embok - did you read Chrisrenne's description of what she'd do? I just love her for never mincing words. I'm more of a sulker, I can tell you my way doesn't work at all. Hoping you find what works for you. Let us know if there is anything we can do to help. I live north of you in Sacramento if you need a place to go.0 -
Embok - sending hugs and yes, if he won't go to talk to someone you should
Believe - wonderful news, sleep well tonight. So nice about the bracelets, I was at a workshop on 'The Healing Plan' for cancer survivors today and I got many compliments on my bracelet. Thank you!
Chrisrenee - thanks for posting update and picture of your nephew. Hope the recovery is completely uneventful and he is moves on quickly, also praying for his sister.
Jenjenl - welcome and congratulations on completing chemo. Sounds like the next few months will be busy ones for you
Tazzy - BB off your shoulders for the weekend
Tired after the workshop today, had my Herceptin yesterday and the workshop was 6 hours today. Very enjoyable, I shared about this site to many who were not aware of it and struggling - I feel so blessed to have had all of you for support throughout surgery and treatment
Know I am missing lots but going to head to bed. Highlight of my day was when my 25 year old brought our granddog over this evening for a visit. Normally if he comes over we are watching him for a few hours or more, today it was just a visit. When my son went to leave Charlie protested - he wanted to stay with Grandma and Grandpa - DS had to carry him out to his truck to get him out, he is not a small dog
BTW Chrisrenee - Charlie the dog had his back right leg amputated when he was about 6 months old. He has adapted so well, it is amazing to see.
Take care everyone0 -
Embok (((hugs))) I cannot imagine having to go through this with a man who didn't understand - I feel for you and hope you can find a resolve.
Found out today that I do not have BRCA 1 or 2 - yay!! My genetic counsellor did say I should speak to my MO when I see her in June about it as my Nan died of ovarian cancer and that still gives me a 46% chance of getting it too.... I said - but I have a 54% chance of not. So I go back to my original thinking that getting cancer of any kind is a crapshoot !! I am happy if they want to take my ovaries.... no good to me at 53 and all they seem to do is produce estrogen. Still we will see what the MO has to say.
Welcome jenjen - like scottie said you have found a great place to land for support, laughs, comfort... whatever you may need - we're here for each other.
Just about to watch the latest Men in Black...love those 2.
Hugs to you all, sleep well and chat tomorrow xxxxx

Believe.....I'm like you, a sulker!!!!!.....doesn't work, as I now realize after being with this man for 42yrs!!!!!.....WTH...I'm a slow learner.....lol....where was Chrisrenee when I needed her...oh, not born yet.....lol
My marriage has been a roller coaster and I wish I had spoken up more often, but I hate
confrontations and being married to a Greek, his idea and my idea of quiet debates
together, differ immensely!!!....so I would suck it up and sulk......SO WRONG!!!!!
Embok.....don't know what to say to you that others haven't except to give you support and an ear .....my heart does go out to you though.....can't imagine trying to run a law business, deal with BC and keep a family together all at the same time....you have a lot of strength and energy.
I was just talking to a friend the other day about husbands and their support. We both
have the same kind of husbands who love us to death but have the attitude...."you've
been treated, you're cured, now time to move on". They don't want to discuss BC
whatsoever, and we decided that men more than women tend to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that "everything is fine". I'm not excusing your husband's terrible
behaviour.....just something to think about.
Chrisrenee......cheering for you today....you go girl. 💃0 -
Scottie - I'm with you! Those Greek men! I've never stood up to my DH. He has his own thoughts and whatever. So I learned after 20+ years to "plant the seed" if you will and it may take awhile but eventually they come up with a great idea or plan. Pish posh. I think it's also because I grew up in a household that defined dysfunctional. If you heard my parents screaming from the street duck and cover as you walk it because you don't know what is flying across the room! Knives, scissors, books, phones...you name it! I wish I could say I'm kidding but I'm not. Which is why I think I don't yell when I'm angry. I don't want my kids to see that. Even when we are fighting we act normal in front of the kids and they don't really see it.
I can't complain though my DH has been awesome through this whole experience. He does act like the other DH's in regards to how I'm feeling. Active treatment done, cancer out - ok you're good now. But some days I'm not and he acts accordingly.
Chrisrenee - I agree with Websister. My girlfriends 12 year old rottweiler just had a back leg amputated and he adapted so quick. Not that we are comparing your beautiful nephew to dogs but kids adapt. And guaranteed he will be running faster than ever soon enough. BTW - love the mohawk! I've been giving one to my son since he was 1 1/2! Sometimes now at night I'll put my hair that way!
Believe - so happy for you! The angels are always around.
OK - prayers for my sister. She is a melanoma survivor and just found a spot on her face that her MO is almost positive is a basal cell carcinoma but biopsy won't be back till next week. Then it's cutting to clear margins time. I can't believe this is going on - she just got the all clear ok we'll scan you once a year instead of every six months! It's weird but I know there is a connection between melanoma and BC and we are both adopted from different families and here we are in our 40's going through this shit! Granted she loved the sun her whole life but still... Plus they never found the source of the melanoma so it's always lurking. STUPID FUCKING CANCER!!!
Ok - hugs to all! Enjoy your weekend and do something fun and positive for yourself!

Karen, are you saying you are married to a Greek also???. We can PM and exchange stories and commiserate with one another......lol
Prayers going up for your sister......I hope it turns out to be benign....enough with cancer already.0 -
Amen to what Scottiee says!

cheering you on chrisrenee - you go girl !!
Well Greek attitudes are very similar to Italian. My Pa is Italian and in the beginning my Mum would agree and do as she was told..... didn't last long. My Mum is one strong woman and now they have a very equal relationship.... she does what she wants and he keeps quiet
Karen hugs to you and your sister. praying (even though not religious) for benign as well.
Scottie: I can only imagine what your household was sometimes like... you Scottish, him Greek - fireworks I would say.
So I have spent the morning cleaning the house and doing laundry and am knackered...but sure does look good.
Wish you all a wonderful weekend - and hugs and love to all I have missed.

Quick check in from NC. It is really great down hear. Also enjoying the time with just my DH and three kids.
Believe - Great News!!!!!
Chrisrenee - your nephew is so cute. I am still praying for a quick recovery for him and your whole family. Great news about your DD also! I bring my DD to get a suspicious mole removed and biopsied on May 7th. I am not worried as much since they told us it could wait until after our vacation.
Tazzy - I am BRCA 2 positive and I had my overies out, actually a full hysterectomy, with the Divinci Robot in January and the surgery was a piece of cake. I worked 4 hours a day from home one week after surgery and returned to full time work after 2 weeks. PM me if you have any questions.
Hugs to everyone that I am missing.
Will try to catch up once we are back from vacation.0 -
Just catching up and heading to bed. Been a long day today. My DS is in a hockey conditioning camp on weekends, early mornings ;-( and I helped my brother and sis in law at a sales show. They own a lingerie business that also sells 'toys'. Lmao, well some of these ladies were quite funny when they saw some of the products!!! I had so much fun but it was tiring being on my feet all day. Worth it in the end as proceeds went to radiation for BC.
Embok, men are a$$es!! Plain and simple!! Mine just doesn't get it at all. Yes, treatment is over. But, I will never be NORMAL again. It's hard on him but hey, I am the one it's happening to so suck it up buttercup. Support and comfort me. Not the other way around.
Jenjen, cancer sucks, glad you found us, welcome. Best place on the net if you have to go thru this shitty thing
I think my chemo curls are starting. Lol my hair will not sit down on top it's pretty cute if I gel it but otherwise it's a birds nest!!0 -
Hi my beauties! Just got home from the relay for life walk. I can not tell you how humbling and EMOTIONAL it was. I have not cried about this disease since after my BMX. My friend and I walked together today for the survivor walk. As we are waiting for it to start there was a dedication, the national anthem and then the walk started. I was already in tears and cried the whole first lap. The second lap is dedicated to the caregivers, my mom, son and daughter joined me on that one and I cried again. I looked over at my mom and saw her crying. It was the first time I've seen her cry over this. I walked a total of 7.5 miles today and my feet are killing me tonight. I get home and both of my kiddos are still awake my sons best friends come over to play hide and seek, keep in mind they are all 16 &17 yr old kids playing. I absolutely love to hear them laughing and cutting up. In all i raised 140.00 for the ACS. It's not much but I did start late. next year i will start early. Tomorrow I plan on going to Dallas to see my nephew and see if i can talk my dad into taking me for lunch or something. I am a daddy's girl but my momma holds my heart! it was so nice to share this experience with my mom and she's already talking about doing it again next year. My friend and I were talking about fundraisers and we've decided on selling jello shots ! We will be the big sellers next year. haha!

Great job chrisrenee ... I would have been crying with you. Jello shooter ....mmm Margaritas please ... Yummy. They are my favourite.
Hugs to your nephew from all of us. Hope our Daddy takes you to lunch ... Do they have a Schlotskys. I love that but only get to eat there once every 2 or 3 years. They do not have them in Canada or the northern States near me.0 -
Joanne- thank you! Yes we do have a Schlotzky's I love them! Especially their jalapeno cheese bread. YUMMY. Daddy always takes me to eat.
Stephen, me, momma and Tay- caregivers lap!

Chrisrenee, I just signed up for our Relay for Life June 7th. Not sure what to expect but one of the gals that runs our Livestrong program is trying to get a big YMCA team together so I joined her group. Should be a lot of fun.
Great idea for the 2013 Luminary , i may have to steal that idea from you when I walk.
The jello shot fundraiser might catch on in the right location LOL.
Enjoy your Sunday ladies!0 -
Chrisrenee.....congrats girl......love the family pic.....like Jo said, I would have been crying
too. Hug that cutie for me today and you niece also. Luv ya. ❤0 -
Hello ladies
Believe- great news! I was thinking about you a lot this week and in your pockets!
Chrisrenee- awesome that you did that walk yesterday with you family! Also happy to hear your nephew and niece are healing more each day. What a tough time you have had lately!
Friday night I went to an event in des monies for the organization who is organizing our run and I got an opportunities to meet some of my fellow teammates. It was fun and I drank way too much wine! I am getting nervous about my race coming up in July so who wants to come and take some of my miles for me:) come a vacation to Iowa in July? Who could resist that right iatigger:)
Oh also my ex husband was Greek he was an awesome guy but things just did not work out for us. But holy crap was he stubborn. I remember the first time I meet his family and they took me to a Greek restaurant their family owned and they fed me so much food and I was trying to impress them so I just ate it all. LOL my husband just sat there and secretly laughed until we got home and said he could tell I was about ready to throw up. When I told his mother how much I loved certain foods like feta cheese and some pastry thing and I would up the next morning to a gift of 3lbs block of feta(I am not kidding the thing was enormous) and three boxes of pastries and almond cookies. I miss those cookies from their bakery now that I am typing about them:) yum!
Ahh made me remember some times with him and his family when you all started talking about Greek husbands:)
Well I am sure I missed a lot of you in the last few days but have read your post and welcome with open arms to all those that are new to this thread.
Embrok - read you post about your husband and sorry you have to deal with that as well. I am not going to give you advice but this is the place you get to type your feelings out and we will listen and support you! Hang in there and I am positive as intelligent and strong that you are that you will figure out what is best to do.0 -
Mcook....my husband still does that....my sons and I just have to mention we love something and boom!!!, we are eating mounds of it every week till we tell him enough already.....lol...yes, Greeks are stubborn beyond belief!!!! Wow....can't believe how many of us here were or are married to Greeks....they sure get around.....lol

You bet Mcook, there is plenty to do in Iowa. If nothing else we can come back and hang out on my deck and pool. I will make sure the cooler is well stocked.
It is amazing how many of you married a Greek and had the same experiences0 -
How far would it be to Chicago? Scottiee and I are thinking of a road trip to Chicago with a detour to Iowa first. Tazzy are you in? What is the date again mcook for your run? And where is your leg of the run?

I think I got the short end of the Greek stick! No pun intended! My DH's grandfather came from Greece and like all good Greeks living in Queens he was a chef. His grandmother came from Poland and no one has been able to replicate her stuffed cabbage. Now his mother can't cook to save her life and my DH does a mean scrambled eggs and toast when I'm sickly. However! If it weren't for our friend Kim teaching me to cook we'd be emanciated! Not only does he have the Greek/Polish stubborness going but from his fathers side he gets German/Italian. Talk about stubborn. Put that up against my Irish/Italian! I always tell my daughter that she is a mediterranean european mutt that will fight someone to the death then do a shot and a beer with them!
Off to a bday party with my DS and then to the movies with my BFFs tonight!
Happy Sunday!

Joanne, it is only around 4 hrs to Chicago from my house depending on where you are going. I am hoping Mcook does the leg near Iowa City because that would be really close to where I live. I would love to get to meet you gals in person!

Hello
I am going to be some where Between Grinell And Iowa city. I am the 2nd runner so starting about 9 am about 26 miles out of Grinell but our leg ends that day in Iowa city! July 19th is the day!0 -
I'm going to see what I can do about getting my butt to Iowa City July 19!!! Maybe I can hitch a ride with Joanne and Scottie!
Sun is shining here for a change, I think I may try to get some yard work done. Not sure how much as my PN is really bad lately. I was up most of the night because of it.
Oh how the cancer fun never stops!!0 -

Criesrenee, very moving story, well told, I felt like I was there with you all.

That would be so cool if you guys come to Iowa. I have a good friend who is from Canada and I got to meet some of her wild and crazy friends over the years. She is also a BC survivor. I get the feeling all you Canucks are from the same mold, lots of fun!
