We had a great Christmas. Opened presents over coffee this morning, then dinner for DD, SIL, GS 25, GS 21 and my best friend. DH did all the cooking (he once looked into becoming a chef). We had Thai style turkey, wild rice dressing, potatoes & cauliflower mashed together, gravy, brussels sprouts, dry fried string beans, steamed sweet potatoes and asian cabbage slaw. Medlar and pumpkin pies for dessert. Wish me luck getting rid of all that before a doctor's appointment Monday.

My 6yo GS told Santa he wanted 61 dollars for Christmas. DS and DIL sounded him out, wondering if he'd seen something at their hobby shop for that amount. He said no, he just figured he could buy a lot of stuff for $61.

    Good Morning Everyone,

First, thank you for your responses.  Kept my feet up all Christmas day and watched my salt intake and like magic they went down after a lot of peeing!  We had a quiet Christmas as we have the kids and grands come Christmas Eve and DH caught whatever bug the rest of the family has.  Anyone who even sniffles stays away from me so I haven't caught anything, knock on wood!

Idesim, thanks for your input as a fellow Herceptin victim.  I know it is a most necessary drug, however I didn't have any problems with it during weekly infusions!  It is Now that I am on every 3 weeks that I have annoying SE's.  Go figure!  I have my next infusion on 1/2 so I will definitely discuss this with my nurse.  I am also so damn tired!  Could be due to the 40 pounds I have put on since starting this journey.

My Mx is scheduled for Jan. 13th. Still very apprehensive.  DH doesn't want to hear about anything as he has been consumed with his dad's lung cancer and death on Dec. 7th.  Dad and I were diagnosed about two weeks apart.  It has really sucked!  While at the funeral someone asked me if I was my MIL!  Since my hair is coming in very curly and gray and the gentleman hadn't seen her for 20+ years he thought I was her!  Guess I must look like an 81 year old!  LOL. I am only 58!  Once I have the Mx I will begin to get back in shape!

Thank you all for being here!  I appreciate your support and having a place where people understand!  Sorry to be long-winded, but I am a teacher and we just can't help ourselves! LOL

Sgc! So glad to hear your feet and ankles have improved, but terribly sorry to hear of the loss of your FIL.

We all understand your apprehension about the surgery, and the waiting just makes it all the worse. We will all be in the bag for you if you need us!

Ouch! silly man mistaking you for your MIL, just what you needed!

I had a Doctor ask Colin if he lived with his Mother, while acknowledging me! We are only 21/2 years apart and I was in my early 50's at the time. I told him I looked nothing like Colin's Mother who was in her late 70's....just shows you there are stupid people everywhere! LOL  Take care M x

Hi Wren, so good to hear you had a good time, and the food sounds yummy!

I love the story of the $61.00 that gave us all a smile when I read it to Bec and Colin.

I haven't heard of Medlar, what is that?

Good Luck on Monday!   M x

ldesim, Bec is here till Saturday, she's well and is really enjoying the quiet. I have let her sleep in till 10.30am each morning.

She is torn about the Funeral, it is on the 30th, but she can't get a flight, to get back to work on time, so she has decided to go up on the 9th for the big get together. Her Father is happy with that, he understands that it is difficult for everyone at this time of year. There are a lot of people who are away and can't make it to the Funeral. I have decided not to go, it is just too much travel time for an overnight stay.

I have to get that treadmill out of the shed too, I have eaten my way through an enormous amount of food this past few days. I like your idea about eating everything first! LOL

ndgirl, that sounds like you had a great time and an interesting and different meal!   I envy you all the fun with those little girls. I love the idea of the matching clothes!

Zills, it must have been great at your house! Great fun and lots of great presents. I am with you on the exercise, I need some incentive too!

    Off to bed now,,,catch you tomorrow...M x

I am Viv and I am in the UK.  I am 43 and a single Mum of twin boys.  I've decided to go flat now as I can't be bothered with the whole prosthetic things!  Too heavy and hot for me!  Just focusing on losing some weight and getting myself fit for 2014.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and I hope you have all had a fantastic time.

I look forward to getting to know you!

Just had an email and our/my favorite website has 50% off the sale and clearance stock. Outrageously cheap, just make sure you go larger, in the tops and jackets. The bras with the full coverage are really good. I wear them with a micro bead foob, they are really comfy.

    M. Sent you an email about the style of a tank.

SGC. We're here for you. I understand your DH is overwhelmed. Just keep in contact- hold hands, ask for a back scratch, etc. Even after your surgery. Tell him it's ok to hug you.

Mine was scared of the responsibility of the kids and my dx and sx. I was a preschool teacher and had a year old. I was used to getting hugs and holding my baby. Then everyone was afraid to touch me. You need that physical contact.

You can start walking now. I was doing the shuffle about three days after sx. Can't go home until you can walk to nurses station. Plus it will help with your anxiety.

Watch this video. Use the finger holds anytime you start feeling anxious. I use it all the time, waiting for appts, before bed. Even the boy holds his thumb.

    http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ydxWxFJgtAk&desktop_u...

Welcome Viv. Mine are one and four.

I walked maybe a mile this morning and drank some immunity booster. Supposed to be tasteless. Not! Will try the green stuff when that's gone. Will pull up Dr oz rites and have boy do them with me.

I want to throw out the candy and leftover sweets or pass them on. Most give me acid. DH doesn't want them except the flake. It's the baby that has the sweet tooth. More, more, more is what she says. However if my landlord drops off some cheesecake, I'm not sharing. She makes the best ones.

Yes what is medlar pie and thai turkey?

Welcome Viv:  This is a terrific site.  Great ladies and lots of laughs along with the serious stuff.  I am just recovering from my mx and SLNB.  Doing very well.  I look forward to each day reading about what others are up to.  I also have learnt so much here.  I went in for a SLNB and was fully prepared for them to take additional nodes if necessary.  I have since read so much about that not being necessary.  I should have known this earlier.  At least known there may be an option.  Thank goodness it does not appear that they took anything much as my recovery has been so simple.  I really do not know how I would have coped at all without the support and knowledge of everyone at BC.O.

Medlar is related to apple. It was popular in the middle ages when kings had serfs to do the tedious work of getting anything out of them. Put your index finger in your thumb joint; that's the approximate size. They are picked while hard and allowed to blet (soften). Then they are peeled, split open  and seeds removed. When DH went for the fruit for cooking, he had a big bowl of peels, a medium bowl of seeds and a small bowl of actual fruit. All parts are brown to tan. The seeds stick like glue to the fruit and are almost impossible to detect. Therefore the pie should be eaten carefully. He cooks it like pumpkin and it has a slightly grainy texture. Tastes OK though. You can probably guess which one of us would as soon chop the tree down before it gets any bigger. He got the tree from Raintree Nursery, which is one of our better edible food sources.

The Thai style turkey had a lime based glaze and was stuffed with citrus fruits. It ended up almost melting in your mouth tender.

Welcome to the new people. This is a great group and I'm happy to see it growing.

Of course you're anxious about the mx. I think I was more worried about having a 3rd surgery in 2 months than anything else. I had appendix surgery years ago and a hysterectomy, both of which were far harder than the mx. I kept a pillow between DH and me for the first week or so, then just a little tiny pillow over the area which protected me from jabs in the night.

    Hi everyone,

I've just been reading (and smiling) at all your posts and stories and stuff.  What a wonderfully happy bunch you are.  I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas.  Can't believe it's all over so quickly!  I'm home alone for the next couple of days so must make sure that I keep positive, I find it so easy to think too much when I'm on my own.  I am starting a challenge tomorrow, walking from the most southern part of England (Lands End) to the most Northerly (John O'Groats) on my treadmill!  It's 969 miles (1560kms), so hope to do it in 9 sections in 9 months!!! We'll see.  I always have to have something visual to do so hopefully this will help motivate me!  I'm a bit on the chubby side and I'm hoping that it's going to help me lose some weight!  I need to lose about 5 stone, not sure what that is in pounds or kgs, but it's a lot!!!!!  That way I'm hoping my belly will lessen and I'll feel more confident.

I did Christmas day in a restaurant with no boobs in. I did feel a bit subconscious but once I'd settled down and we started eating and chatting, I forgot I didn't have them in!  I'm also going to plan my next tattoo!  I might even have it done in the next week or so while I'm off work.  I've decided I won't go near scars just yet!!!!!

    Hope you are all well.

HOT D@mn I can post, I can see pictures, I'm back in business!  And he thinks I bought him a new tablet...hahaha.

Hummmm I'm thinking his hand may need to be tied to the bedpost again, purely medicinal of course.

Little mommy to be is actually cooking me dinner tonight for my birthday, but I will talk your ears off soon.

gramwe, Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear gramwe, Happy Birthday to you!

You're so clever! Buying the OG a tablet while his hand is out of action, and then tying him to the bedpost for good measure! LOL

So nice to see you back, are you OK? I need a report on the baby and a due date? I hope our girl is feeling great. I loved being pregnant, and I smiled when you spoke of her rolling tummy. I would lie in the bath and push the little heels or elbows in and they would push me right back.

I can't tell you how wonderful it is to have you back!  We have all missed you! Hugs M x

Vivtwins, what a sensational idea. I never thought of actually making the treadmill a journey! I am going to do that too! I don't have a huge amount to lose, but I find it hard to shift any weight because I am taking cortisone all the time. I can't believe how my flat side makes my stomach look huge.

Good on you! for going flat at the restaurant, that's the only thing that bothers me about being half flat. Although, I don't care about going half flat at times, it just isn't the same as the freedom of flat and fabulous!  It has a bit of the Quasimoto's about it! LOL I'm not complaining, I have the foob and boob thing covered and can wear pretty much whatever I like now, but at first it was like trying to contain a rogue puppy while trying to blow up the other side.

I look forward to hearing about your Tattoo adventure. I hope I can do the same in the future!

Don't let yourself get into thinking too much, if you're on your own, come here if you feel a bit alone, there's usually someone around to chat! Take care now M x

Happy Birthday Gramwe! I need to go back and write down the list that was made. glad you are able to post here again.

Another big welcome to newcomers, Vivtwins, our oldest son and family lived in Teddington several years back and we enjoyed a visit to your country! Good luck on your trek! quite a challenge, I have trouble getting too far on my treadmill but I do try and need to get at it again, too many Christmas cookies. but what is Christmas without a cookie??

Ariom, enjoy your visit with Bec, cant say I blame you for not going, a long ways for a short time. Condolences can always be made from afar and it sounds like you have done that.

I am so darned pooped from just being gone a few days.. dont know if it is the meds (arimidex) or just me, slept most of the afternoon, so suppose tonight wont be good! well enough complaining for now.Happy back to the couch! think I am going to try Zills js. sounds interesting for sure.

Wren, thank you for that explanation, I looked it up so I could see a picture. Very interesting!

I agree with you about the comparisons of the surgeries. I had my tonsils out when I was 19, OMG that trumped the Mx by far! So did my ectopic, my caesar, appendix and all my hand surgeries. I just wish I had known/ believed that, before I went in. I know I was told by my Surgeon that I'd just "Breeze" through it, but I wasn't believing that at the time!" Oh yea of little faith!" If I'd only  known then what I know now, how different the lead up would have been!HappyM x

ND, hope you are not still too pooped.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY GRAMWE!  I so hope that the little mommy of our baby dinner is a delicious one, and that you have a wonderful and festive holiday, and that the weasel stays totally silent.  Perhaps we can slip him a mickey.

Welcome Viv!  Twins!  I have a 7 and 8 year old, as you may have read, and I am 43.  No, wait, I am 44. You rock your flatness and tattoos!  I totally support that.

M, I love the idea of pewter toes, and I am so happy that Bec is here.  Birdie, that dinner sounds unbelievable.  Your DH is amazing.  Gramwe, do you really tie the OG to the bed?  I do not know why I even doubt it.

Idesim, you make me pee:  I am going to use the treadmill, but first I am going to eat all the cookies in the house.  That sounds like a plan!  Hey!  I have an idea.  Why don't you eat cookies periodically WHILE you are on the treadmill?  For energy?  Then you can write a diet book.  It can be called F0CK YOU, TAMOXIFEN.  EAT ME, INFUSION OF STUFF I HAVE TO HAVE EVERY THREE WEEKS.  WHAT IS THAT SH1T CALLED.  MY CO-AUTHOR IS ON PAIN MEDICINE.

TB, I was concerned about the SNB too. I was terrified of the tracer injections, but they turned out to be a non event, completely painless.

My surgeon explained to me that with my Dx of grade3 DCIS, if I had a lumpectomy, he wouldn't do the SNB, but if I went with the Mx to avoid the rads, it would be remiss of him to not do the SNB because there was a possibility of microinvasion that wouldn't be discovered till the final path report was in. In that case, it would be too late to find the Sentinel Node and he'd have to do a full axillary clearance. I decided that the SNB was the lesser of 2 evils, and told him to go ahead. I had seen my Mother suffer with LE after an axillary clearance in '94 after a radical Mx. I didn't want to have to go through that, if possible. I know it means being vigilant about my right arm forever, but the stats are very low for LE after a SNB, so I have no regrets, even though I had no invasion. I would still do the same thing, if I had to do it over again.  M x

Zills, I got your message..I have been a baaaaad girl, again! I can't help myself, I haven't bought anything else at the sales, but I had to have more Marika! Mx

Vivtwins, I am 43.  I got ahead of myself.  I am not 44 for like six more months.  F0CK ME.  I felt the need to correct that.  New people, get off if you don't enjoy swearing.

Need washboard stomach, but can barely move.  Once PT starts, and then after, am going to hospital gym in which PT trainers are there, so you don't do anything wrong, but it is more expensive, but it is actually not that expensive when compared with other gyms, but it is actually more expensive because it has no amenities.  And then, when you don't need those trainers, you can get off that plan and then the gym is like twenty dollars.  Have not been running since our princess' first seizure, not one time: quit gym, they let me out of plan because of her.  Soooo, trying to look at positive and think about rejoining gym, washboard stomach, even if this time it is going to hurt like a bitch.  In pillow palace right now hurting like a bitch.  Mods, hear my cry!  Are you going to censor me because I use bad language in this context?  I know they will not.  Love the mods.  I want to be a mod, but obviously I do not qualify because of my attitude.

Viv!! Hi!  Welcome!  Love British accents!! They put a bloody big smile on my face! oooo I am jealous.. are you getting the map from IFit?  I just got a new treadmill that I broke into day.. oh boy guys, I was messing around with the controls and it just sped up and I was just laughing imaging me being spit off the machine into the wall behind me like a cartoon.  It has Ifit, but I don'.. t have a wi-fi connection.. the only internet I have is from this USB doevice I have that plugs into the laptop :(  I may have to rethink my internet.. I want to race you!!!  I too need visual stimulation, I get bored so damn easily.  5 stones is 70 lbs (I looked it up haha).  I need to lose close to 30 lbs.. which is about 2 stones.  I think your goal is totally attainable in the time frame you've set for yourself.

Grrrr I dunno what I keep doing, but I keep losing parts of what I've typed.. F'ing keyboard.

Ndgirl, your dinner sounded yummy... I've had neither duck nor dumplings.. but it sounds good!  We were talking yesterday about the American Girl dolls.. I love that you found matching outfits.. the girls must have loved that!  Glad that you got some good sleeping in, but I bet you will be pacing the floors tonight.. at least you can come and keep M company :)

Wren, your dinner sounded outstanding as well... I went and looked up Thai Turkey and medlar before I saw the explanation below lol!  I love the story of GS and 61 dollars.. what a random number, that is just too adorable.  I assume he got the cash? :)

Sgc, glad to hear the swelling went down.. I can attest it is a horrible feeling to be waddling around.. which is what I did most of last winter! I too have gain weight.. not sure if its Tamoxifen or the Herceptin.  Sorry to hear DH is sick.. hope he keeps it the hell away from you and that he feels better soon and that he's not a big baby as most men are :)  You poor DH though, its bad enough having to deal with one cancer diagnosis, but two is really horrible.. I am terribly sorry to hear about your FIL.

Sgc, I look in the mirror and I would swear that I have aged 10 years during this last year.  Hopefully I can reverse that a bit!

    Happy Boxing Day Ariom!!

No one ever said any thing to me about not doing manis and pedis. I don't do them often, so not a huge sacrifice.

My dr said I didn't need to treat the right side any different than the prophy side as far as shots or bp.  I only had 2 nodes removed, but just to be on the safe side I am not going to use it.

Had another great meal last night and once again ate way more than I should have!!  She sent me home with left overs so I have dinner all set for tonight too!  My other friend's shy friend didn't come last night.  She is agoraphobic, I guess the one night out was all she could handle.

Zills, sounds like the little ones had a wonderful Christmas!!  Hope you were able to get some rest today.

ndgirl, how cool to have found matching outfits for GDs and dolls! I think I saw them somewhere, but can't recall now where it was.  Duck and dumplings sounds wonderful!  Sadly I can't eat the dumplings any more, no wheat in my way of eating.  I do miss them sometimes, like when I make sausage and sauerkraut.

    Hugs

Posting so it doesn't get lost, still need to read the next page.

Ok, where was I... M.. I think Bec made the right decision as did you regarding the funeral.  Did she get her pedi and massage yet? :)  I went to the Marika site and put some things in the cart, but the shipping costs were way too expensive to justify the purchase.

Zils, it sounds like you are regaining your energy back.  I know what you mean about the sweets, I have so much crap laying around the house now and just want it gone.. well most of it anyways.  I think the birds will be getting a yard full of stuff tomorrow as I think I've eaten the best of the stuff now anyways.
