new and future flat sister, with questions

Hi Togetherness, so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. I think you should go, your friends will be happy to see you, and you, them. Sometimes I think it is just thinking about doing it, that's difficult. I'll be there with Wren!
Interesting subject, the stomach sleeping. I remember ldesim and me talking about it. I have always been a "Face Plant" sleeper. Colin marvels at the fact that I don't smother myself. I can't remember if it was the first night home, but it was very soon after surgery, that I thought I'd try to roll onto my stomach. I got the tube from my drain wrapped around me, mine was an obscenely long tube, that I could drag along the floor behind me. I digress, I had flipped over onto my stomach, but didn't have the oomph, to get back again, so I had to work my knees up underneath me to get the leverage to get up. I then worked out that if I lay on my right side, with that arm under the pillow, I could roll most of the way over and sleep very comfortably like that. In fact, it is a much more comfortable sleeping position than before.
Wren, I too, love to hug Colin with his chest against my flat side. I know it sounds nuts, but it is far more comfortable than it ever was, with a boob on that side. M x

Wren, you are just so sweet with your hugging story. So sorry about Goldie -- she seems like such a darling! I know she is getting lots of pets.
Togetherness, so sorry for the loss of your friend. I bet you will not look like a hot mess at the funeral. We don't look as bad to others as we feel we look, I think. Of course, that isn't to say we don't FEEL like a hot mess
Otceb, instead of a juicer you have GOT to get a Vitamix! They are the best! They make soup -- hot soup in 7 minutes! -- from vegetables. And ice cream, or frozen yogurt, right in the blender! And they make juice, with all the fiber in. And they make peanut butter, almond butter, soy milk -- you can make anything! It comes with the greatest recipe book. Ask Ariom! Oh, and sauces: pasta sauce, pesto, vanilla custard.
M, Idesim, so glad you are going to beat up my beautiful and young PA, who looks like Princess Diana, only younger, and who probably has the perkiest real boobies ever. Super sick of this whole thing, obviously. Feel really bad about what's going on in my area right now. And thinking ahead -- more scared of total flatness than I was before.

hello Ladies!
So much going on! So many posts missing! I tend to read more than post, but for some reason I really want to post tonight!
Gramwe: So glad you are back. I am so sorry about the LE, but we are here for you no matter what! I am sure your team of experts will keep you well! I would love a massage right now! Haven't had one since all this mess started and that is not in my reality at this time, so please have one for me!
Zills: sorry about canceling JS. I always forget that KY has rotten winter weather too (even though my Goddaughter lives in Louisville).
Bobo: why is the PS office such a holes? They need a reality check! I volunteer to join in the bitch slapping or anything else you see fit!
Idesim: I so remember the long cold winters and being ready for them to end. I want it to end as well! Sorry moving floors didn't help. Hope you will get some relief when the dust settles.
Posting now so I don't lose what I have written!

Hey there, everyone, from chilly Paynesville! Unbelievable weather, last week over 40c and last night we had the heating on...go figure!
I spent a good couple of hours in the front garden, the oak leaves are such a pain. I filled a huge garden garbage bag with them and another with all the spent flower heads. This morning I'll hit the weeds coming up between the paving bricks with the whipper snipper and the front of the house will be ready for this long weekend. The neighbors who have flagpoles already have their flags up. It is Australia Day on the 26th Jan. We have a path of crown land between us and the water, so people can and do, walk past the front of the house and sit on the grass to watch the fireworks that are set from barges on the water, just down a little from our house. We get the most amazing view of the fireworks from inside if it is cold. A bonus that we didn't even know about when we bought the house.
Hi sgc! nice to see you!
Hiya Bobo! I am sorry about how you're feeling. It's been such a shitful ride for you, and I know it isn't over yet. You're such a strong one, I know you'll get there, and you know, we are all here for the long haul if you need any support. I know you are going to "rock the flat", even if it doesn't feel that way to you right now.
Look at you, selling the Vitamix! Ha! we should be on commission, I have been flogging it to everyone I know too. Still love my air fryer to bits, and now with this, I have most things covered!
Take it easy....chat later..M x

ok, I am back to finish my posting. DD2 made a delicious dinner so posting had to wait!
Wren: sorry about the cal horse pills. I guess we do what we have to! I would be chewing the flavored ones no matter the cost in the long run!
Bobo: welcome to the single and teen digits club; another group we all didn't want to join! Sorry about the other TE and revision on March 7th. I pray it wil be quick and easy for you! I too have had that overwhelmed feeling. A friend suggested I learn breathing, yoga, and meditation. I managed to find a few minutes here and there and began breathing and meditation techniques. Yes, it did work! I was more centered and had more energy.
Ariom: so sorry about the garden mess! You might not have the garden of your dreams this season, but I bet it will get better and better and be wonderful next year!
Togetherness: I hope the memorial service was okay for you. It must have been bitter sweet and tough for you. Sending you gentle hugs {{{{}}}}!
Otceb: best wishes with your chemo! I agree with Wren-do not eat anything you really love! Nothing tasted as gross as chocolate and coffee when I had chemo . My taste for chocolate has returned, but I now prefer dark or semi sweet whereas I was a Hersey Kisses Gal before. I still struggle with coffee and have to use flavored creamer to enjoy it. I also began eating spicy foods because I couldn't taste the bland ones. Just remember that the food aversions change throughout chemo and that I will be in your pocket for each infusion!
Hi GrammaB!
Nd- Hope you are having a great vacation!
So, I went to my post op appointment yesterday. All dressings, stitches, and drains were removed. BS told me I wouldn't start rads for several weeks, but I have no idea if it will be internal or external. I will be returning to Herceptin infusions and see the Onocologist in two weeks. I am hoping he doesn't want to go back to my chemo cocktail. With the 7/23 nodes found, I am a bit nervous about the possibly of changing treatments. It will be what it is. I am still very sore everywhere! I tried sleeping in bed last night but it wasn't very good. Still can't sleep on my side!! Hopefully things will continue to get better!
If I have left anyone out, please forgive me. Darn meds play with my focus and I have been off Aderall since all this began!
Always, Susan

Hey Susan, great to see you, and great to hear you've shed all the awful appendages! It won't be long till you can sleep comfortably in your own bed! Zills built a "Pillow Palace". I used to think of her all smooshed up in the pillows eating ice cream with her children!
I hope you can have a relaxing time before your next appointment, and I have my fingers crossed that the next lot of treatment will be easy on you. We'll all be here!
Thanks for thinking of my messy garden, but it is a small price to pay for not having to drag that sprinkler around for nearly 3 hours to get everything watered. All the garden beds are done and finished, my veggie patch is done, it is just the lawns that are a mess. I'll deal with it, and now that I have done the big clear out on the other side, it really isn't that bad.
Where are you Zills? I miss your posts when I go to bed at night, but hope it is because you're sleeping in later!
I am sorry, I don't have chemo brain as my excuse, but I forget who asked me about our winter weather for gardening.
It gets pretty cold here, but nothing like those -deg temps you get over there. We have the snow fields, just about an hour from here, but we are on the lakes, with nothing but the ocean in front of us, all the way to Tasmania. The winds from Bass Straight are brutal in the winter, but it can also be quite mild at times, it is pretty unpredictable. They call this area "The Riviera", or boating capital, of Victoria, it is an Isthmus with a series of lakes that are salt water, so we get all the sea birds, great fishing, and can watch Dolphins playing outside our house. My favorite visitors are the Pelicans, I can get up some mornings and there can be about 60 of them on the water, right outside. We are on the South Eastern coast of Victoria. Take care everyone....M x

Oh M, your place sound so lovely! Thank you for the beautiful descriptions, we imagine ourselves there, instead of being in the deep freeze we are in! Happy Australia Day! Enjoy those fireworks!
Susan, congrats on the drains and everything else removed! You are set free! And no treatments for the next few weeks? Fantastic! I hope you get good news from the oncologist... fingers crossed.
Togertherness, I hope your evening went well, I'm sure it was emotional. Gentle hugs {{{}}}
Ok, I'm quite ignorant in the world of kitchen appliances and just looked up the Vitamix - it's a blender, right? I already have a blender (wedding gift, I used it once) and I guess I can make juices with it? If that's the case, then thanks bobo for sparing me the expense!
I'm been battling a big cold for the past week, it's stuck in my sinuses, all my colds end up as sinusitis, and now I have an eye infection. What's up with my immune system, it can't be low before starting chemo?! I'll go to a walk-in clinic tomorrow to see if I need something for my eyes, I know it's because of the congestion but not sure if it will go away on its own.
DS loves having races - anytime we walk outside, we have to race a few feet, and of course, he's "the fastest"! These days he says "Do you see the wind when I run? Do you see the flames?" (like Lightning McQueen!) Ah, to live in the world of a 5-yr old!

OK, I am with OTCEB: I looked up the Vitamix and found "blenders" costing up to a thousand dollars!! Am I missing something here. When we moved permanently into our beach house, I had to downsize significantly and now pride myself in having the most functional and efficient kitchen without anything that is less than a necessity. But I will not give up my Kitchen Aid mixer on the counter no matter how much room it takes. So if I am going to replace that space with a Vitamix worth that many $$$'s I have to be convinced. What am I missing here?
I have not been writing much and feel so badly about not being more supportive to others. I have been following closely. Until my treatment plan is finalized I am left feeling in limbo and very centred on my own situation. Maybe that is OK as I have been focusing on others for so long as a therapist that I had a difficult time taking the time for myself (my dr. will not allow me back to work even though physically I am back to myself), until my treatment is done and I have fully recovered. I think it has been a good exercise for me to step back from my work and focus on myself.
Once I am done researching everything there is about DCIS, positive margins following a mastectomy and radiation, and have a treatment plan in place, you will not be able to shut me up!
In the evenings when I am overwhelmed by all the info I have gathered and frustrated by how difficult these decisions are, I read this thread and feel so much better. You are such a great bunch of characters and I would so love to meet all of you in person some day. Wouldn't that be so much fun

I'm not planning to get a Vitamix. I just know I would never use it enough to make up for the expense. We're retired, so it's no problem to cook during the day. When the kids were little and we worked full time it was a different story.
I cannot wait for my Physical Therapy appointment on Tuesday. I sat with my head turned to the left for too long on New Year's Eve and my neck and shoulder have hurt ever since. This is in addition to the upper back pain I'm being referred for. Last night I kept having nightmares. I don't know what that's about. I didn't do anything unusual, but woke up 3-4 times and had the same nightmare twice. Actually, perhaps it was a memory because a very very similar situation happened years ago. Usually I just sleep through the night and don't remember dreams.

Hi otceb! Thank you! Australia Day is not a day that I have ever really celebrated before, it was just another long weekend. Since we moved here, it has changed a bit because, being a tourist town, lots of people descend here for this weekend, and the town takes on a bit of a party atmosphere.
We love living here, it is such a breath of fresh air after the city, and we wish we'd done it earlier. Hindsight is a wonderful thing!
I am so sorry to hear of your cold. It is such a miserable feeling to have the sinus issues and the eye infection. I used to be a cold and flu magnet, we all were, at the airport. I used to take a second, every day, before we opened that aircraft door. All those people who were locked in that cabin for about 16 hours, you never knew what you'd catch. I am madly touching wood here, before I say, after discovering Olive Leaf extract, I haven't had a single cold or flu. I wish I'd known about it back when I worked for United.
Oh yes, the fantastic imagination of children!
The Vitamix is an extraordinary, but hugely expensive appliance that I knew Bobo has, and speaks highly of. I belong to a shopping Forum (surprised? Not!)LOL, One of the members had bought one from our Home Shopping Network in Aus, but just never used it. She asked on the forum, if anyone wanted it. It came with other extras and had cost $1200.00. I ended up buying it, after much urging from Bobo for about $350.00, so although still expensive, it was a bargain I couldn't pass up.
I used to be right into cooking and entertaining, but have to admit to being a bit "over it" these days. I like things fairly simple now, organic if possible, not too much meat, and as much local produce as I can get including from my own garden.
I bought the Vitamix, which resembles a blender, but is really much more. It has a 2 horsepower motor and the ability to heat without an element, so you can make beautiful soup from ingredients that don't even need to be cut up or peeled, in less than 10 minutes. Frozen ice cream fruit dessert with no additives, just what you want to add. Energy giving smoothies, and fruit juice that retains all the fiber.
I am still learning how to "drive" this beauty, there are zillions of recipes on the internet, with many normal people and chefs demonstrating on YouTube. It wouldn't be for everyone, but it really suits my lifestyle now.

I'm here. Just cabin fever and the blues. Too cold to really walk. Boy was home 4.5 days.
They had a two hour delay on Friday. Bldg not retaining heat. Was 60. I sent him in undershirt, long sleeve shirt and sweater vest plus cords. He said he was cold. He's never cold. Runs around in his underwear at home and it's 68 maybe? I told him to wear his hat on Monday. Not sure if there will be complaints but negative temps again next week. Talking about extending school days by 15 min to make up time.
Baby's school must be warm. She always has red cheeks when I pick her up. I keep her at home if the boy doesn't have school and I don't have any appts.
I've needed a nap the past two days and didn't get one. Crashed last night before 8 pm. Now awake and hungry. Don't want to go into the weekend short on sleep. More snow predicted. Was supposed to go out to eat and see a chick flick and have a sleepover at my aunt's house. DH to keep kids. Depends on how much snow. Salt is running out.
Togetherness hope the service was good.
TB and SGC. Rads aren't bad. I wouldn't dread them.
Wren. Your poor neck and poor kitty. Can you get any relief? My cat would starve on wet food.
OTC. Yes mine loves to race too. He was excited to sew his pants last night. I have to hem my Marika. Good luck next week. He will keep you focused on the here and now.
SGC and bobo. Physical contact is important right now. Your partner is probably afraid to touch you. Reassure them. You can get a full body hug from the back, get your shoulders or feet rubbed, hold hands, scalp massage. Sit side by side on the couch and cuddle kids or adults. Everyone is feeling the lack of contact.
It took awhile to lay on my side. It helps to hold a pillow to open up your chest. I start out on my side but if I can't sleep I flop onto my belly.
Monday I start strength training at the YMCA. The Livestrong foundation sponsers the 3 month class with exercises tailored to your specific needs. It's for cancer survivors by cancer survivors. My class will be small. Maybe 6? I can't wait. It's supposed to help with fatigue and get back my muscles from chemo. I also want to sculpt and tone so I feel better about my body and lose another 10-15 lbs. My family gets to work out there too. This pool is warm so I'm thinking about swim lessons for the kids.
DH cut out fast food, pop, junk and has been exercising. Was doing it at home but now goes to the Y. He's been doing it about 2 months. Has almost dropped two sizes. Depends on the cut of the jeans. He was drinking pop, eating BBQ chips and white chocolate ice cream all summer to cope with my diagnosis and treatment.
The dr upped my a/d and I'm back to not being hungry. I used to have tea and toast when I got up and then a full breakfast at break, lunch, snack, dinner. Now it's one piece of toast and I may not eat again until lunch and pick at dinner. So I'm trying not to feel guilty if I eat in the middle of the night but it's not a habit I want to start. Hopefully it will level out in a week or so.
Going to look up the ginger tea recipe for OTC and have a bowl of cereal. Maybe then I can sleep. Stay warm! Enjoy the fireworks M. Hello Granwe!

I found it. It's pretty good. Also ginger candy, ginger ale , ginger snaps/nuts.

Here is my ginger tea recipe. I think the fresh ginger tastes better.:
1" piece of fresh ginger, peeled and sliced thin, then pounded to release oils and juices (you can substitute 1 tsp. ground ginger)
4 cups of water
bring to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer. Simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.
simple syrup (optional) - 1/8 to 1/4 cup sugar with 1 cup water - dissolve and bring to boil. Add to ginger tea.
I add the syrup to the ginger tea, but you could also add it to the green tea (whatever strength you like) if you use that. Sometimes I just add the sugar to the ginger tea and simmer it a bit longer.
(NOTE: If you use ground ginger, you might want to strain it. The ginger root is ground but it does not dissolve so you have rehydrated fibrous stuff floating in your drink. I strain it through a dish towel in a strainer, but you can use a coffee filter.)
For a 12 oz glass of this refreshing beverage I use about 1/4 cup of the ginger tea and 1/4 cup of the green tea, add a little ice and fill the glass with water. I have a 72 oz pitcher of water that I drink every day. I add the tea to each glass of water that I drink. (That ends up being about 12 oz of the ginger tea each day.) That works better for me than drinking a whole cup of hot tea.

Hi TB, I have explained about the Vitamix in the post above. I don't think it would be something to replace you Kitchen Aid. I have looked at them over the years too, but have never "caved", because I don't bake enough too warrant having one, although I love to see one of these, in an amazing color on a kitchen bench.
I do have another favorite that I am sure I have bored the others silly with, but I'll just mention it to the new members here. It is an Air Fryer, and I use it almost every day. Anything you can make in an oven, you can make in this without, or with a minimum of fat. It makes wonderful french fries with just one teaspoon of oil and it makes meat really tender, especially Colin's favorite, Kangaroo, which can be very tough if not cooked properly. It also cooks everything really fast, and is great to heat up frozen foods. I heat french bread rolls, or garlic bread in just a few minutes. I have a great European Oven, but rarely use it now.
Don't apologize for not posting right now. We all know how much you have on your mind right now. You just do what feels right for you, we'll be here!
I just about went nuts with research on DCIS when I was Dx. I had never heard of it, and I wasn't going to go into dealing with it, without knowing everything I possibly could, about it. I printed out all of Beesie's info, on these boards, for friends and family to read, and understand. I made a great connection with my Radiographer who did the imaging for my Stereotactic Biopsy, and now takes care of my F/U Mammograms. She gave me the links to British research sites, and helped me understand exactly, what was going on. I was researching, not knowing, if I had an invasive component or not, but knowledge is power and I read everything! We keep in touch, and she lets me know if there is anything new I should know about.
Oh my, wouldn't it be so great to meet up? It is such a shame we are all so far apart, especially being in Aus, Viv is in Britain, we are so far from everything over here. When I worked for United, I was backwards and forwards to the US so often...who'd have thought I'd have all these fabulous women I'd want to catch up with? M x

I don't wash the floor with me bum. I just scoot around on it since it hurts my arm to be on my hands and knees. Don't feel like skating it clean. My feet are dry. Don't know why I bothered. Snow gets tracked in even with rugs on the inside and outside of doors.
I don't think I could do lamb fries either. She said they taste like chicken. She likes to gross people out.

Hello Zills! sorry you are still having such cold weather.
I love the sound of your exercise classes, you might just be the one to get me into it, too! Good for your DH for working out too!
I have just bought some organic ginger, I am going to do that ginger tea tonight.
Are you still suffering from reflux? I found this new meal replacement Naturade Vegansmart, and it has probiotics and digestive enzymes in it that eliminate the reflux..too good!
You're so right about the lack of contact after surgery. People are scared to touch you! I had to encourage Colin not to be nervous about touching me in the very early days.
I have noticed some people shying away from hugging me, you know the sticking the bottom out and not making contact kind of hug. I find I get the best hugs from the girls in my BC group. It cracks me up how some of them almost bounce off as we do silicone to silicone! Take it easy..M x
0 -
Zills, I knew you weren't washing with your bum, but still can't really work out how you do it sitting down. LOL
What a pain in the ass that your work just gets ruined by more snow being tracked in. Colin can drive me nuts, with wet wheels! The oiled timber floors can be just cleaned and looking great, and he'll go outside and not stay undercover, and I find "twirly wirly" tyre marks all over the floors.
I have to be honest with you, Lambs Fry doesn't taste anything like chicken, to me, it has a strong flavor and an even more obscure texture. Do you like French pate? That is probably the best way to describe the flavor. mmmmm!
0 -
I had pate a long time ago. I remember the texture but don't remember if I liked it. I don't like tongue. Can't get past the texture. Had big game like bear, bison and deer. It all depends on how it's killed, dressed and cooked. But I don't go looking for it.
They now make antacid soft chews. Contains 1177mg of calcium. I liked them this summer.
I've got a stinking UTI. Dr thinks my tissues are thinning. Have to have the talk with my 70+ male onc. I hope he is sympathetic. Also my ear tube is working its way up the canal. I wonder how long it takes.
Cat doesn't want out. Had to chase her down. Now sitting on the porch getting snowed on. Looks pitiful. But she needs to go before coming back in. Firebob slept in the garage again. He doesn't mind getting pitched in the snow:)

Sorry for all the posts. Blame it on lack of sleep, chemo brain and multitasking. Kids need breakfast.
Stomach has mild reflux if I'm hungry or ate processed food or white stuff. Think mashed potatoes:(. I usually can ignore it. Today proper Irish tea not sitting good. Not sure how much is residual from chemo or just nerves/infection. No one can tell me. They like to blame everything on chemo.
Kids are eating me out of house and home. Boy needs new shirts again. This will the third set this school year. They are tight and hard to get on/off. Will be a pain to find. Summer clothes out.
0 -
You're up early Zills, I am just getting ready for bed.
Can you let me know the name of those chews. I haven't seen them here.
Oh shit, I am sorry about the UTI, Colin gets them often, as do most people in wheelchairs. He has tried everything over the years, and takes a tablet called Hiprex all the time to try to prevent it. Another natural thing that he has had a lot of success with is Corn Silk capsules. I hope you can get relief really fast.
I don't know anything about ear tubes, what exactly does that mean?
Had to laugh about the cat not wanting to go out. Can you blame it?
Dex hates getting his tootsies wet, so avoids going out when it is wet. He will stand on the patio and lift a leg, he tries to aim out into the garden...very funny.
I sure hope you feel better Zills...Hugs M x

Tums makes them but I get the store brand. Prefer orange flavor over cherry. Just look in the antacid aisle. I never paid attention until my primary mentioned them. I also like the alka seltzer chews. Not sure if they contain calcium or not.
I'll look up corn silk. Read that delphinium is good but has scary side effects.

which vitamix do you all have? I just went to eBay to check them out And was a little overwhelmed!
0 -
LindaKR,
I have not yet received mine, but my DH researched them all and ordered the professional 750 series. I had a Cuisinart combination blender/food processor that just caught fire a few weeks ago. DH contends that every time I get in the kitchen anymore the FU Fairy visits. I told him he could avoid the visits by doing all the cooking !! He said nope it was more fun to give me crap and order the one with a 7 year warranty ~
Hi to the rest of you all
Still dealing with a the freaking water leak and this morning I go down to the basement only to discover the hot water heater has bit the dust .......so now waiting on a repairman to show up to replace that ........................ Will do a proper post once I can catch a break somewhere !!!
0 -
Hi Zills, I have great, chewable antacids called QuickEze, but I don't think they have viable calcium for your bones, do they?
I will have to check that out!
Linda, I have the "5200 Total Nutrition Center" it also came with dry food jug so you can make your own flour etc. I haven't tried that one, and likely won't use it. I have seen quite a few, at reasonable prices on Ebay, but of course your electricity is a different voltage to ours, so I wouldn't be buying a machine like this one, to operate on an adapter in Australia.
Hi Fiaranch, so sorry you're still dealing with the water leak, what a pain! My daughter went away for a weekend once and when she returned her hot water service had died and leaked right through the apartment. I had to have all the carpets lifted and big heaters and fans brought in to dry all the walls and the floors. It was an absolute nightmare. So I can understand how much it must be bugging you to have the leak and now this.
I like your Husband's way of thinking! I registered my second hand Vitamix, and still received just over 6 years warranty. The woman I bought it from, had it sitting in a cupboard for nearly a year, without using it.
Take it easy....M x
Sensational day here, water is like glass, no wind, and just a few boats on the water, I am getting ready to go out with Dex. There is a lot going on down on the beach for Australia Day, so I will check it out and be back later....M x

Hello every one!
I got a little behind due to a fall I took a couple of days ago. I slipped or my knee buckled (not exactly sure what happened) and I hit my r hip against the corner of two walls and then fell and landed on my r elbow first and caught the rest of the fall with my left hand. I am so black and blue and tender to the touch!! I have been keeping still as much as possible to try and ascertain if any of my back issues are going to flare due to this. Low back has been sore, but not a lot more than usual.
Catching up:
Hi back at ya scg. I agree, dinner made by DD far more important! We'll all still be here! And congrats on getting everything removed!! It is a huge step towards feeling human again!!
Ariom, from the photos you've shared of your garden, it is so beautiful, but it does keep you busy doesn't it?
otc, so sorry about the cold and eye infection. Hope you can get both cleared up quickly! (((hugs)))
No Vitamix here either. I have a barely used KitchenAide mixer, and there is no room in the cupboard for a VMix too!
posting...

Zills, sorry you are not getting enough rest. I guess we just have to sleep when we can and eat when we want! Hope you get to go out with your Aunt!
Sorry about the UTI! You really don't need anything more to deal with. Not sure about the ear tube, is that good or bad? Funny about the cat! My furbaby is an indoor cat, he only experiences snow when I scoop up a handful and put it on a plate for him to sniff and push around. He loves to bat at it when it is falling outside like he thinks it is something he can catch!
TB & Ariom, I did a ton of research on DCIS too as that was my original dx, then when my path report came back dx was changed to IDC. So back to doing some reading, but there really wasn't much I could change or ask for at that point. It was still early and small enough that no further treatment was needed.
Fiaranch, smart DH there, doing the research and ordering it for you! Sorry you are still dealing with the leaks, that sux!!
Airom, have a great walk and enjoy the Australia Day festivities!!
Hugs for all!

Hi everyone!
Sorry u have fallen grB, sounds awful and very painful! You take care sweetie!
Zils having a uti is the pits! Makes you feel so run down you poor thing!
M wouldn't it be great to meet up? I do wish we were all in the same country!
Firanch sorry you are dealing with a flood! That sounds crap.
Wren hope you get some relief for your neck, sounds painful.
Togetherness I hope the memorial went as OK as it ever can and wasn't too tough for you.
TB90 I know what you mean about the DCIS! I had never head of it either. There is so much information out there. Good luck with it. I think you're right, once you have a plan you will feel better.
Bobo hope you're feeling okay!
I've had a very productive day today! It actually wasn't raining so I got up early and did some chores! I also went for a long walk in the sunshine! It was freezing in the wind but made a nice change to be outdoors. The dog enjoyed herself and it helped raise my mood. I have also ordered a new kitchen so got rid of a few thousand pounds..... Scary!
Hope everyone else is alright today.
Love Viv xxxxx

Hi gB, I wondered where you were. I thought you may be Ebaying!
I am so sorry about your fall. That's awful, I hope you don't have a flare up of back issues because of it. It is so, easy to just take a tumble. You were very lucky not to break an arm or wrist.
The garden will come back quickly once the system is in. We had a lot of rain a few days ago and already there is lovely green grass sprouting on the trenches of turned earth. Yes, it does keep me busy, but I am really lucky that I have a retired couple who are fabulous gardeners, who come in once a month to help with the heavier stuff. Colin doesn't want me to have to do everything myself, so he makes sure I get help with stuff that he would normally do.
I have been taking pictures this morning from my bedroom window, so if I can get Colin to post one, you'll see Paynesville at its prettiest.
I hope you feel 100% soon...M x

Hi all, I have been reading your thread for some time now, and thought I should stop lurking and start posting! You all sound like a great caring bunch, having many a laugh. I was diagnosed at stage IV nearly 3 years ago, got to NED at one point, and had a single mastectomy (right) four weeks ago. I have had three aspirations, and now an infection. My surgeon, (who is the most fantastic medico i have ever met) is on holidays, so i am seeing another surgeon until her return. He re-opened the site (eewww) and cleaned it up and gave me antibiotics, and i go back to see him again in three days. I am terrified that the infection will lead to other complications, has anyone had this? I am such a sooky la la with blood/scars/wounds etc.
I have no plans for reconstruction, and am looking forward to shopping for foobs with all of the advice you have shared.
I live about four hours away from Ariom, my DH sails also, I have a 10 year old DD and a 12 year old DS. And a cavoodle. And two guinea pigs. Lol
I will shut up now and try to get the kids off their various electronic devices, and head down to the waterfront to see the Australia day activities. Take care
Dawn. xx

Hey dawny! Welcome to you, and Happy Australia Day! So nice to see you here.
It always amazes us when people say they have been lurking, reading this thread, we never thought it was really interesting, because it's just us chatting about our day, albeit from all over the world.
Geelong, we were there for sailing comps for Colin a few years ago!
You're a right "Uniboober!" me too! I too, got an infection after my surgery, it isn't at all rare. Mine was not as bad as yours, and came good with double doses of antibiotics. I had one aspiration for a Seroma, and a Haematoma, and I also had a weird thing called Mondors which is a strange varicose vein thing inside, coming from where the nipple used to be and branched off down my abdomen. It lasted for about 3 months and finally righted itself.
The infection, did however, make a bit of a mess of my very fine straight scar. I had made my Surgeon promise a very fine straight scar, because I had no desire to reconstruct.
He was there, the minute I opened my eyes and said he'd done "Just what I'd asked for!" and he had even checked it with a spirit level! In my anesthetic stupor, I said "Really!" and he laughed and said "No!". It now has a section where it opened up with the infection that looks like the readout one of those machines that picks up sound waves, nice and fine then a hysterical wide section and then back to fine again.
I did get a bit of a "dog ear" under my arm so when I see him for my follow up on Tuesday, I'll be organizing to have a small section of that removed.
My Mother had BC too, and she had a terrifying infection after her Mx, I was sure I was going to lose her, but she got better after a lot of removing of the junk and massive doses of antibiotics, with no other complications.
It's very early days for you, it will be some time before we can bombard you with info about Foobs, Boobs, and Prosthesis, but you've come to the right place! I am probably the most obsessed one, but ndgirl likes a an array of forms too.
So glad you came in, I will look forward to chatting...have a great day, I am off down to the foreshore to listen to a band...M x

Awww thanks M for the warm welcome! That's so nice. What a beautiful day we have for Australia Day, you and I are both lucky enough to have prime locations for the celebrations. We live one street away from Geelong's waterfront, so we can just wander down to see what is happening, I love it! Enjoy your day. D xx
