new and future flat sister, with questions

Hi dawny, what a fab day again, but going to be hot later. I am having an ongoing battle with sand flies. I have never been bitten in my life before, but recently, two bad lots, and they have me running scared. I hate them, much worse than mozzzies.
I am so sorry to hear you're getting "yucked" out with your infection, but how good is your man to be doing the clean up! Hopefully it will be getting better with the meds and you can move forward. I too, hate the thought of setbacks, just want to get on with it and over it.
We have to do the drive to see my Surgeon in Sale, tomorrow, about an hour and ten minutes door to door. I love going to Sale because there is a lot more, different shopping there to Bairnsdale which is our next big town. There are some great Opp shops too that I always have to check out.
I get my results from my first Mammo on my remaining side, since the surgery and hopefully I can organize to get my small revision done on my scar end. It annoys the crap out of me, because it has a protrusion that I have to tuck in to my bra. I thought it may be ok, but I am wearing sleeveless tops and seem to be endlessly checking to make sure it isn't visible.
Take it easy...chat soon..M x

Hi gB, yep, those are quills. They are cute little ant eating things that roll into a ball of prickles if they are disturbed. They aren't scary at all.
Sorry to hear your back is worse today. Can you take a hot bath and massage with something? I hope it improves soon...M x

Good morning M and Dawny! M, you seem to be having a great Australia Day weekend. Thank you for the pictures, what a beautiful setting! And Dex is adorable, she seems so soft! I love the huge windows you have, with the lake view. An inspiring place to write...your book! Good luck with the surgeon tomorrow, fingers crossed that the mammo results are good and that he can correct your dog ear.
Dawny, funny how Paddy steals shoes!
gB, sorry you're hurting. Do you think you will get things checked out this week if it does not improve?
Zills, too bad that Osage was not good, it looked like it might be with that cast. The last movie I saw was Gravity, I did not love it. Was not impressed by the special effects and the story was so-so. And not enough George Clooney!
Your baby is teething? I hope it passes soon. We just noticed today a new milestone for DS: he has adult teeth growing behind his baby ones at the bottom, and one baby tooth is moving!! He is so proud!
Viv, don't let anyone steal your spirit! I'm glad you're feeling good, try to ignore the negative people around you!
Idesim, thanks for the pic of the Echidna, yeah, pretty weird animal! Not sure if you'll get snow tomorrow? We had big fluffy flakes today, it was beautiful (nice change from yesterday's windstorm). We went skating and it was a winter wonderland!
I got my wig today, it looks fine. DH and DS were surprised to see how much it looks like my real hair, so I guess that's a good thing. My cold is better and my eyes too, although they are still very red. I'll have to tell people at work tomorrow that it's because of an infection, not from crying over chemo or whatever!

Viv cute pup. Nice she's allowed on the beach. No dogs on beach here.
A what a view!! I'd never get anything done. Well, I don't anyway.
Grands came over today. Little tornados. I am worn out!

We're stuck in a foggy am, sunny pm pattern with temps in the 40's. It's supposed to rain next week. I'm sure most of the US is jealous.
Foster cat Goldie (aka Gummy Goldie) has found the warmest spot in our house. It's an antique drop-leaf desk with a bookcase bottom. The heat vent blows directly into the bookcase and all our cats have loved it. I had to pull her out to get a soft fur thing under her. She has slept there most of the day. We don't know if the pain meds are still working and making her sleepy or if they've worn off and she's sleeping off her mouth hurting. I wish she would come out for some lap time.
Ariom, New opp shops! What can be more fun?

otceb, Thank you! We love this place like no other, I don't know how we managed to find it, well, I actually think it found us. It was purely by accident that we came here...serendipity! and we decided it was right for us that day!
I love the windows too! Wonderful for storm watching!
Dex is starting to look better than he has for ages. He has been sick with terrible allergies. He's been on Cortisone and anti cancer medication for months, and his fur thinned out so much you could see his skin right through it. Fortunately, he is getting his fluffy coat back.
Thank you for the well wishes for tomorrow. I am feeling pretty good about it, this is my second follow up since the surgery, one year gone!
I'm so pleased to hear that your cold has improved, and so pleased you are happy with your wig. Good luck with work tomorrow, and I hope the eyes are better too. Take care M x

Spookiesmom, are dogs not allowed on the beach at all? They just have to have a lead on here during peak time, but in the Winter, they can run on the beach and swim.
Oh, how I envy you and the Grands!
I have to laugh at your comment about getting nothing done. I often find myself spending way too long, watching the view.
Wren, that place on the desk sounds wonderful for Goldie to recuperate. I hope her mouth is feeling better. Is she eating ok?
Yes, fresh Oppies! I love that, just hope it doesn't get too hot to enjoy. M x

Airom, you do live in paradise don't you! Great photos! Hope you get good results at the dr and you can schedule your revision soon. Have fun at all the Opp shops!!
I've been using the heating pad on my back today and it is helping. I have some Arnica gel/sports cream that helps too. If things don't get better each day, I will call the dr.
otc, so glad you are happy with your wig! Good to hear you are on the mend from the cold and eye infection.
spookie, how fun to have time with the grands!! I don't get to see mine that often, but when I do go to CA to visit, they really do wear me out!
Wren, good to hear Goldie has found a cozy spot. She is probably still a little fuzzy from surgery and the pain. I'll bet she'll be looking for a lap sometime soon.
Hugs

No, no dogs allowed on the beach. They Might have GERMS or potty on the sand! There are a few places they can go, it's all mud flats and broken shells. Not real safe for paws. Then, if we went to a fresh water lake, there would likely be gators, who would think a dog would be a nice lunch. I've heard of dogs as big as Golden Retrievers being pulled in.
The grands. 2 boys, 8 & 6. 8 is ADD, 6 is ADHD. 8 is totally mean and rotten to 6. Neither are still for more than a minute. I worked around kids for 23 years, and thought I was pretty good at it. These two make me crazy in a heartbeat.
0 -
Spookiesmom, DS was ADHD and I can remember looking at him charging around and wondering how I could be that tired at 23yo. Two older GS had it also. DS says his sons don't have it because it doesn't exist. Whatever works, I guess. They're both doing well in school.
0 -
Yeah, SIL still is a bit ADD, and fought putting 8 on meds because of his experience. 8 was not doing well in school, since meds that's getting better. I guess it's hereditary?

ADD and ADHD are very real and very different! Neither are excuses to accept 'bad' behavior'. Being very active or not being able to stay on a boring assigned task are facts for many'.
There are so many ill-concieved notions about these different parts of our lives for some of us. I will keep my reply only to ADD as I have no personal experience with ADHD - just with ADD. First of all, not only males deal with ADD and it does not automatically go away with puberty. I'm a 67 y/o woman who is ADD. When I was growing up, all the teachers said was that I was easily distracted from the boring 'work' - except for the ones who actually gave me challenging work to do in addition.
Is ADD hereditary - I believe so, at least in some cases. (Today's world of so many chemicals in the diet - who knows.) I am ADD - have been all my life though not 'officially' DX until an adult, both of my Sons were/are and probably my Mom was also though never DXd, It has to do with brain chemistry. I wasn't finally DX until several years after my Sons had both been DX ADD at 7 and 7. 'Behavior modification therapy' can definately be a huge positive (for some and at some times), getting older also 'works' for some to deal with it, but for some, meds make a humongous difference in life when 'needed'. Not all meds work the same and our brain chemisty is different - I've tried 4 different ;ADD' meds and 3 had very bad reactions - but the one I'm on (the first I had) is great for me.
I'll get off my 'soap box' - PM me if anyone is interested in my experiences as an ADD.

Morning all! no time to chat this morning, off to see the surgeon. I'll be back late today....M x

Whoa! Calm down! 8 has other issues too, SIS is a player too. I never said ADD ADHD weren't real. 8 has been in treatment since he was 2. He is in special therapy classes at his school. Unfortunately DD is a teacher who has been brainwashed by the current "know it alls" on how to handle his mean and rotten behavior. I don't agree with it, I would handle it differently, not my kid, so I can't. I can only hope for the best.

I deleated your quote as it really has nothing to do with trying to educate others what ADD/ADHD is and the differences. I never said/infered that you didn't think that ADD/ADHD were NOT real/existed.
I simply tried to give a little education about ADD because there is so much bogus 'stuff' put out. about ADHD/ADD

Guess we have to wait awhile to hear how M made out.
Dogs aren't allowed on the beaches here either.. I'm not sure if it's statewide or just local.
M, love the pics, Dex looks fantastic... is he over the problems with his fur? I swear he posing for the camera. I love the wall of windows
I don't know too much about ADD/ADHD.. I do know many years ago they tried to diagnose my nephew with one or the other and SIL went for another opinion and they found out he had hearing problems. A friend of mines son they wanted to put on some medication after dx'ing ADD and found out instead he had a form of dyslexia.
Still cold cold cold ;(

Lets get off the ADD/ADHD 'stuff' and get back to what this thread was started for - "new and future flat sister, with queastions".

It was actually my DS (who has it) who said it wasn't real. It definitely runs in families. I wasn't dx with Add until in my 40's. It sure explained a lot of the problems I had at work. I've worked with some of the cognitive ways around it and managed it rather well. Now that I'm retired and on my own schedule, it's rarely a problem.
I saw a woman with small children be diagnosed with schizophrenia. She was definitely psychotic and delusional. She decided to leave the hospital and started down the stairs from the 10th floor psych ward. She ended up jumping out a window from a lower floor and broke her leg. The workup in the ER showed her thyroid had stopped working completely and too suddenly for her to have other symptoms. Her husband was overjoyed to hear that she was not crazy and just needed a small cheap pill to be herself again. Just shows that the medical side needs to be checked out thoroughly.
Dogs can't be on national park beaches here. We went to a small park and a ranger told me to pick up my dog and carry her off the beach. She was a 70lb shepherd/border collie mix. I told him she would have to walk because I couldn't carry her. They didn't have a sign that I saw.

So Kicks, what is your question? Are you soon to become flat?
0 -
Whew! I am really behind.
OT and TB, you are both crazy -- get a Vitamix right now! Linda, you could get it on QVC -- they have installment payments. I really feel mine paid for itself since I never have to buy frozen yogurt, smoothies, fresh juice, ice cream, canned soup anymore. If I organized myself I could make almond butter and sunflower butter and wouldn't have to buy those either.
Susan, good advice about meditation. I am going to PT tomorrow. Wren, how is your neck? I am hoping they will let me go back to yoga. But then I'll have another sx and then... no yoga? And then restart PT. Welcome Dawny! I am sure empathizing with you about the infection. And Viv -- are you the one with the new kitchen? Agree about the blingy countertops. If you need any help with justifying your show palace, you have come to the right place (ariom).
Idesim, what's going on with the fumes? And what did you do this weekend? Not too much shoveling, I hope.
Loving the puppy pictures. Spookie is just too cute for words! Love that term 'skin kid.' Agree, actually. I am a dog person too.
Grammab, so sorry about your fall! Are your bruises turning colors? When I get a bad bruise, it changes colors.
M, you must be so happy to have a fellow Australian on the scene! Love your pelican story. How was your Dr appt? Did you set a sx date? And what will it be like?
Z and I practically had a playdate this weekend! We both went to the movies at exactly the same time, and we saw the same thing. So funny!
Grading papers and about to watch The Bachelor! XXX

Hi everyone!
Just popping in to see if there is any news from Ariom about how her appt went, and if she found any treasures at the Opp shops! My back is feeling better today. Hot pad is helping. Boy am I colorful!!
Hugs!

I have no question for you about dealing with UMX or BMX. The info below all my posts says I had a UMX Oct 21,2009. Yes
I do wear my pros. 'all the time'. So yes - I do have experience with deaing with post surgery. We are all so different - there is no "One Size Fits All". I do not (at this time) ever think I will go without my pros. 'in public'.

bobo, nice to see you! We were posting at the same time. I am so colorful, geesh, several shades of purple/black/green and a touch of yellow and that is just the hip. Elbow is grayish/green other arm is still black..... I'm kind of guessing you know the progression of the colors!! How are you doing?

WooHoo! Girls...what a day I have had! It has been super hot 41c...hate it! But I got to my appointment which was at 11.45, I got in at 11.47. He chatted for a while, said he was extremely happy with me and my progress, sort of suggested he thought I may have had emotional issues losing the breast. I assured him that was not a problem for me. Do you think he may think me a tad vain???? LOL
He then asked if I had any issues. I said "I want this "dog ear" looked at please, I am tired of tucking this little sucker in!" He had a poke around and said that it has to be more than I wanted done, to make it a really neat job. He described it as cutting out a "diamond", and making it all flat. I told him "I like diamonds!" "sounds good to me!" "but I don't want another general anesthetic, will you do it with a local?" he wasn't too keen, but when I showed him all the others I have had without anesthetic, he caved! So 18th of Feb, unless there is an earlier cancellation, dog ear....gonsky!
I have shopped and shopped today, only stopped long enough to eat at my favorite cafe...toasted home made Italian bread with Chicken Breast and Avocado with a hint of Aioli...Hot tea and a Lemon Poppyseed Cake! mmmmmm, Colin says I am such a cheap date!
Every shop had a sale on, so I had to do a quick run back to the car with parcels, and back to start again.
The "oppie", that is my favorite had so much new stuff I was beside myself! Our government allows companies tax breaks if they donate a certain amount of new seasons stock to op shops and the like. Today I hit on one of my fave labels, which had just been donated, all new with tags, so I had some fun there too.
Dex was at the "doggie sitter", he can't be trusted to stay quiet, when we are out all day! Don't you hate spoiled dogs? LOL He's like a toddler, doesn't like to be separated, so he "stacked on a turn" as the Aussies say, digging his front feet in and sitting his big flat bottom on the ground. Poor Carol had to drag him into the house. When I picked him up, she said he hadn't settled all day, just watched the door for me coming. What a shame, he could have had fun with the other dogs. I think I will have to make a habit of him going there more often, so he is used to it. I can't believe so much drama for a dog. I did say he was a "man with issues!"
Home now and exhausted, this heat is terrible. I have the air con on freeze now. If it weren't for the bloody sand flies, I'd go down to the beach and swim. Posting M x

Wow, just read back, didn't have time this morning. Not a subject I have any experience with, but a very emotive issue!
ldesim, all is well, and I just love the windows too, I love that the house was designed with glass all the way across the front, so you can walk through the open family and the living room to the master bedroom and see the view all the way. The family room and the master both jut out with floor to ceiling glass, so you get more view on either side. It's magic!
gB, I thought you'd be pretty colorful by now, how is the pain? I hope it's getting better and not worse. M x
Bobo and Zills seeing the same movie at the same time, wow that's serendipitous! Did you both enjoy it?
I have to agree about the Meditation, if nothing else, it helps to keep us focused. I got into it many years ago when a friend, who was a working psychic urged me to do it after I was Dx with Rheumatoid, my specialist really advised it too, and I have been forever grateful for learning how to do it. It can be used in different situations. It is the only way I can get to sleep on a plane, and it can take pain levels down to a manageable level too.
I know you are feeling overwhelmed right now, so don't feel pushed into "something else". Good breathing,is just as important especially when the body has been through what yours has. Focus on deep breathing can make such a difference, and doesn't take much time. Posting M x

Hi M. I'm so sorry I wasn't in the bag. It just didn't register. Couldn't have kept up with all that shopping but it sounds like fun. Really hot tea on a hot day? I know DH thinks cold tea and cold potato (salad) are an abomination.
Just lost my spot to the boy. I was drinking sleepy time and the coaster fell on the floor. At least the baby is still out.
The pillow palace has been dismantled. Just waiting on my dad and the weather to start moving stuff out. Feeling the need to purge. DH is happy. Hopefully kids won't notice too much.
Went to my first Livestrong class. Class has doubled since Friday. 7 women and 2 men. Two others with bc. Got to feel TEs. She offered and said they were miserable. Felt like basketballs. Two others stage IV, not bc. Both men and going strong after 4 yrs and 8 yrs. Said it's all in your attitude. Assessments on Wed. LE measurements, 6 min walk, flexibility and presses.
Freezing weather. Cows calving early. One didn't make it. One in the barn now. If not too cold, will walk to see him in the am. It's 7 now. Will drop to zero by morning. Wonder if the boy will have a delay.
Wren. How's Goldie? Still sleeping a lot?
Nd. Dig your toes in the sand for me.
OTC. Almost time. Hope you are sleeping. If not, do you have any meds (holding)?
SGC, Togetherness, GrammaB. Making progress?
Viv. Yes need details about kitchen. Idesim and I will live vicariously thru your remodel.
Hello bobo, Fia, Granwe, Dawny, Spookie, TB and PRB.
Sorry if I left anyone out. Going to have to make a chart so I can keep everyone straight!

Hello Kicks, I understand your "No, one size fits all!" I am a Uni too, and never thought I'd be able to go out lop sided, but I have, and much to my surprise, it wasn't an issue for me. I know it isn't for everyone, just as you said!
I also realized very early on, that one Prosthesis would never be enough for me, I do admit to being a "more is more, kinda gal!" so I have started a collection that fits my different styles of dressing. I really enjoy the fact that there is very little, that I can't wear. I wasn't too sure at the beginning of this post surgery journey, just what I'd be wearing. Fortunately, for me, it has worked out very well.
This group is a fantastic supportive group, we all vent, and share ideas, worry about each other and feel like we know each others families. We're just like girlfriends having coffee, who'd believe we are scattered all over the world?
Take care M x

Hello Zills, my lovely one! I like the sound of your exercise class. I so need to do it too. Hmm basketballs, I don't think so!
My Mother always drank tea, hot tea, no matter what the weather. I can still hear her broad Scottish broque "Och, it's so refrrrrrrreshing!" I'd be covered in beads of sweat, sorry perspiration, you never said sweat around my Mother. She'd sit there, cool s a cucumber, pouring tea from a beautiful pot, into a fine china cup. All i wanted was a freezing cold Coke with ice! LOL In saying that, as I got older, I started to drink hot tea, all the time. Colin calls me "Iron Mouth!" among other things, because I drink my tea without milk, boiling hot, straight from the pot in and in any weather. Funny how stuff like that comes from a parent and sticks.
Oh the poor cows. I feel so sorry for them. Today as we drove to my appointment there were sheep huddled under the shadow of the trees along the way. I told Colin that I'd be a shitful farmer, because I'd have them all up at the house with the sprinklers on for them to stay cool.
Thinking about everyone...take it easy...M x
0 -
Poor cow! I would be a shitful farmer too, with the sheep in bed with me if they were cold, and I would give them baths, too, since I wouldn't want them to smell up the bed. M, your day out sounds so fun! I am glad you were able to bend the PS to your will. Really, is anyone surprised?
Z, your exercise class sounds fab, and so does the purge. I support it. I am supposed to be grading papers right now, but I went to PT today, and it was pretty draining and a little upsetting. There were five -- FIVE -- students there to watch. When they were going to do "scar massage," I told them all to leave. But the PT kept two. I was mortified. She said I had to look at the scars and massage them in a certain way three times a day. I said, There's no way I can do that, and started to cry. I wash it off, but the area feels bumpy, uneven and terrible. Just recently I try to put a little natural oil on, because it was so dry, but before that I was super-worried I would get another infection.
So, anyway. Chocolate, my favorite show (Issac Mizrahi live!) and a cup of hot tea. I don't feel very much like working. But I've got to get things done. XXX
0 -
Bobo, thanks for making me laugh!!!! We can just imagine Bobo The Farm Girl, washing and sleeping with her sheeps!
Sorry about the traumatizing scars. It's still early, you just went through hell and they're the result of these sh*tty weeks, so your reaction is completely normal. Maybe next week you'll be ready for scar massage, give yourself time.
Hi gB, I hope you're enjoying being colorful! You must be looking forward to seeing improvement, I hope it's not too painful at least. Good thing it's winter and you're all covered up!
Hi M! Glad you had a good apt with the BS and he will cut your dog ear off the way you want. Yay for the fun shopping you had! Your Dex sounds like my DS, a little separation anxiety going on!
Zills, that class sounds great. It's also always fun to meet others who kind of understand what we're going through. So positive! Yes, I am sleeping well, although not enough, as usual. I need a 4th coffee today... I'm sure I will be a little ancy (sp?) the night before chemo, but not yet, too exhausted!
Hi to everyone else!
Just came back from work, and getting all the prescriptions for chemo, getting blood work done (all good), having apt with MO (all scans were good, we're all set), getting a F***************** sleeve and gauntlet (half glove) for my F************ LE (can't you tell I'm just F*gin' overjoyed)... Gotta put on my happy face to pick up DS in a few minutes!
Hugs!
