otc, glad to hear you are still feeling good!!

bobo, sorry you can't go to yoga.  Did dr say how long you have to stay away?  It sounds like you are really getting some rest this weekend, that is a good thing.  Bruise update: elbow is pretty much just a pale greenish spot; hip is a brick red with blue and on the outer edge is yellow/green.  Very colorful!

Dawny, sorry about the MIL. I agree with bobo, how hard would it have been for her to get take out? Sheesh!!

Viv, flowers?? Wow, lucky you!   Won't see any of those here for months!

Zills, hope you have a better week this week.  Sorry about your grandmother. It is hard to go through someone else's treasures and to decide what to keep and what to let go.  I hope all goes well with the calf and mom too.

Hi Wren! Lands End has some swim shorts and swim bermuda shorts, may be something to look into.

    Fiaranch, Yay, hot water!!

ldesim, hope you are feeling better soon!

    Hugs for everyone.

Just finished watching the Super Bowl. Goldie is very unhappy about the firecrackers outside. My BFF friend came over to watch because her TV doesn't get the channel the game was on. DH made crab dip and a chocolate torte. Goldie was also unhappy that I don't let cats eat off my plate. I was surprised we won. I thought we'd do well, but not that well.

My sister-in-law is coming for a poetry conference and will stay with us Mar 1-4. The guest room is also my sewing room and my closet, so lots to get done clearing out before she gets here. I was raised by grandparents who lived through the depression, so it's not easy to get rid of things I'm only tired of.

Viv, we're starting to get some primroses here.

Ha, ha, gB! Not psychic, just what seems to happen most mornings here. I can sit for ages and answer lots of posts and as soon as I walk away, yours comes in!

Hi Wren, that will be nice to have your SIL come to stay for a while, do you get on well?

I seem to be the opposite, these days, I love to clear out things and have room in closets and cupboards. It may have come from having to clear my Mother's house. She wasn't a hoarder, but she liked to hold onto stuff and loved to buy in bulk! Colin's Mother's house was a nightmare, after that one, I made the conscious decision that I'd never put Bec through a clear out like that.

I had a girlfriend coming this week, but she has just changed it to next week because it is supposed to be getting back into the 40's again this week. Suits me fine, it is pretty hot to be entertaining. It is getting pretty tedious, not being able to do much because of the heat.

    Take care everyone...M x

Give me strength Oh Lord. 3+" of sleet and snow. Kids home. Baby has two pacifiers and maybe a fever. Cheeks flushed but can't get a normal temp. She stripped this morning before I got her up. Peed the bed.

Played in her poop yesterday at nap. Got into the Vicks and smeared it everywhere. Think that's why thermometer not reading. Have washed her hair 5 times and it's still yucky.

Last night while watching game kept smelling a foul odor. Looked under couch, checked shoes, etc. Mr Explosive Bum had an accident. Underwear clean but on toilet, floor, walls, legs. Have no idea. He did try to clean it up. He complained about his stomach hurting when he woke up but seemed fine later.

Lots of laundry to do. Will probably miss Livestrong. Out of bread, bananas. Think another storm arriving tomorrow. Was really looking forward to some peace and quiet plus my class today.

Hope everyone else has a better Monday. Off to start laundry and figure out something for me to eat.

Oh Zills, I'm so sorry to hear that, what a miserable time.  You are so incredibly patient, those accidents would drive me bunkers and the two decided to team up on the same day? Sorry if you have to miss Livestrong. Can anyone bring you food supplies?

Wren, yes, quite the game! I only watched a few plays of the first half and was happy to see Seattle (who had never won) be so dominant. Although it meant a game with no cliffhanger. Crab dip and chocolate torte? Mmm!  Can your DH ship his cooking across the continent?! Glad your town is celebrating! Good luck with the cleanup!

gB! Still the fashionista with your multi-colored body! I'm glad it seems to be healing though.

M, sorry about the heat, it must get draining. You must feel that there's not much to do since being outside is not pleasant. Do you ever go for a swim in the bay close to you, or is it mainly a boating area?

Fiaranch, I'm so happy you have hot water, what a relief, welcome back to civilization! Looking forward to the other stories! :)

ndgirl - you must be coming back from San Diego this week? I hope you're still having a fun time!

It will be a quiet day here, feeling well and taking it easy. Will do a short shopping trip to look for a new snowsuit for DS since he's outgrowing his, but there probably won't be much left in the stores. And new snowmits since he lost one (plenty of spare fabric mits but they're useless when playing in the snow). Have a good one!

Otceb, There should be a mid-winter snowsuit trade event. I'm sure DS is not the only one outgrowing his. My niece said there should be a rental place for fancy baby clothes. You could go and rent one in the current size, take the photos, and return it. Kids grow so fast.

Zills, What a miserable day! The Lord definitely needs to send you patience. And help. DD had the decorating instinct when she was small also. Poop on the wall, lipstick all over the bathroom (and her). I sure hope things improve fast.

    Hi everyone!

I'm sat by a roaring fire in a ski centre while one of my sons is ski bobbing! Basically whizzing down a pretend ski slope in big rubber rings! It's pissing down with rain so not my idea of fun but hey he's 15! At least I've had chance to catch up on news!

We are totally fed up with the rain now! So many floods and lots of misery although I was sensible and live on a hill!!!! Its been the wettest January on record apparently! We all suffer with extremes seemingly no matter where in the world we are!

Zills I sympathise with the kids being shit machines, I had one like that and one that wet the bed until he was 14 bless him. It does get easier, promise!

I'm going to wrap up and go watch the nutters out in the rain now! I shall be back tomorrow!

    Lots of love,

    Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Wren, sounds like the game watching was fun!  I could go for some crab dip!! Hope you have a good visit with SIL.  Poor Goldie, I'll bet those firecrackers scared her!  My cat freaks and goes into hiding when ever they go off here.

Ariom, sorry about the heat.  You will have a much nicer visit if the temps are lower and you can enjoy being out and about.  We're having blowing snow and cold (19°F) right now.  Not as bad as back East, but you can finally tell it is Winter around here!

Oh dear, (((((Zills))))).  What a weekend!  I sure hope the baby isn't sick.  So sorry the weather is keeping you stuck in the house.  Can DH pick up some groceries on his way home from work? Sux you may have to miss Livestrong, that sounds like a great program.

otc, yes still quite colorful, but not any areas that I would be showing anyone!! Glad you get to have a quiet restful day!!  You never know, you may find a sale priced snowsuit.  Have you ever thought of looking in a thrift shop? Good luck!

Viv, you sound like you are so cozy and relaxed by the fire.  Kids will do what they want no matter what the weather.  If I was a 15 yo boy there, I'd probably do the same!

I've got to do some shoveling so I can get to the garage and bird seed for the poor birds.  I toss it under the Douglas Firs so they have a sheltered place to eat.  All the other spots are covered with snow now.

    Hugs for everyone!

Just back in from shoveling.  I guessed we had only had a couple of inches last night, turns out when I get out in it, there was about 4-5" of new snow.  Shoveled an hour to get everything I needed cleared. 20°F (-6.7°C) with blowing wind, (w/wind chill temp is -25°F (-31.7°C). Very cold out there!  My back is not happy, but no Claw so far.

Hey gB, you beat me here this time!

Glad to hear you are ok, and the technicolor skin is still improving. Still mighty cold there though. Poor birds!

Hi Viv, gosh we are all having the extremes in weather. I wonder what we are going to have for our Winter this year???

Have fun by the fire, a great spot to be!

Wren, you wouldn't believe the range of snow clothing and wetsuits at our Oppies, from one extreme to the other, but kids grow out of Summer and Winter sports clothing so fast.

otceb, it is terribly wearing, this heat just takes it out of you. We have lovely beaches right out front and the water is clear as as crystal. It is so warm right now that it is like being in a warm bath. I went in for a paddle on my way home from the supermarket yesterday. There were a few tradesmen sitting on the wall having their lunch and they told me that the water is 24c. i used to keep our pool at about 28c so that is really warm for a lake that is fed directly from the ocean.

We are a big boating area and have lots of boats that stay here all year. Many of the houses have their own jetty where they have their boat ready to go whenever they like. Our Mystique, which is an old 25' yacht that we have been renovating, for ages, and have just changed to an electric motor, is down at the yacht club marina. We need it to be there for Colin to be able to be helped in to it. He races on Tuesday evenings.

The reason I don't swim in it too much, at the moment, is because of the sand flies. These little critters bite, but you don't usually know you've been bitten, and for me, the itchy things don't appear till the next day. Apparently the reason we have so many at the moment is because it has been so hot. Unlike the Mozzies that die off in extreme heat, these things thrive in it. I have never had an issue with these things before, I have lived at the beach, in different States of Australia, traveled through Asia many times, but never had a bite before. I don't know why they are getting to me now. I am becoming phobic about being outside!

Oh Zills, I am so sorry you're having a miserable time. Poop and Pee are never fun to clean up! Vicks in the hair isn't something I have had to deal with!

I hope the kids aren't going to come down with something, and that you can get to your class.

I hope someone can pick up some groceries for you.

    Take care everyone..M x

    Hello everyone,

Wow I have said this before, but I can hardly keep up with this site now that I am living life again.

Zills I wish you strength with those kids.  Nothing like cleaning up shi$ all day long.  Hope the baby is feeling better.  I can't believe the weather you are having.  I would have cabin fever.  The six months I was house bound I thought I would go nuts.

Otceb glad you are doing well and out and about.  Hope shopping was a success for snowsuit for DS.

Vivwins sounds like a relaxing time sitting by a roaring fire. I need to go to the beach this weekend to rest.  I need to find something to help me destress.  I can't get back in the rut I was in before the cancer dx.  I was a stressed out mess!!!

Wrenn the super bowl was a blowout so ended up turning in early. Was happy for the Seahawks though!  They played a great game!! Had a busy weekend so was tired.  Did family bonding with my daughter.  We went to an art feast downtown which required a lot of walking. My poor body has had it. My DD kept asking do you need to sit down.  She as been very supportive during this whole journey, but she is glad I am back to my new self.

Grammab shoveling snow does not sound like fun.  But look on the bright side you got yor exercise for the day.  Take a hot bath for your back!!  Don't overdue!!

Ariom sounds like you will be the expert in this category.  I got my prosthesis today!!  I am so excited it makes me feel whole again.  A few issues though WOW  they are heavy!!  I got the amoena energy lightweight.  They are not lightweight by no means!!  So my question is can you recommend anything that will be lighter? I am going to order the micobead ones that someone posted a link too.  Any other links would be appreciated or suggestions.  I think I will have as many prosthesis as wigs..... Lol. I am so happy to have something there.  I am hoping it will balance my posture. I am having terrible backaches, plus the stretching/tightness is still there.

Bobo I saw that you were massaging and I asked my PS if I should and he said no need for me to.  So just curious what the massaging helps with.  I may do it anyways.

I was hoping that this would be my last appointment with the PS for awhile.  When he said come back in two weeks. I was like really.......I am tired of coming here.  I have been coming here for six months....do I have to?  You should have heard me I was like a litte kid whinning.  I am so over Dr. Appts and just want a six month break from it all.  He just laughed and said are we that bad here!!  I just said you have enflicted a lot of pain on me, so what do you think!  My PS I am sure will be glad to have a break from me as well.  In the meantime I am going for second opinions during the time away just to see what other PS have to say about my situation.  I have six monts to decide what to do next and I am in no rush.

So sorry if I missed anyone, but I luv reading everyone's posts!!  Be well!!

Zils, sorry to hear about your "shitty" day, hope it all got better.

M, probably for the best that your friend rescheduled.. not much you can do in the blazing heat but hibernate indoors.

Viv, your fire sounds so nice... I am with GB, if I was a 15 yr old boy, I'd be out in it as well!

GB, the way you described your bruises, sounds pretty lol. Hope there are no ill effects from the shoveling.

Wren, chocolate torte sounds so yummy!!! I'm kinda glad that Joe isn't that great of a cook or I'd be 300 lbs... I have no will power when it comes to food.

Otceb, so relieved to hear you are still feeling good!!!!  I can't remember are you every two or three weeks?

It's been snowing here all day, but its not really amounting to anything luckily.. I think we're in for 10 or more inches tomorrow night which should make Wednesday's commute that much more fun.  At least its warmer now and not the sub zeros of last week.

Anybody else disappointed over the Super Bowl commercials?  Heck with the amount of money they must spend on making them, I could have done a much better job!!!!  Any of us could have I bet.

We're still in the middle of renovation at the office, and there doesn't appear to be any end in sight for at least 3 weeks... I am so over it and everybody else is too which makes for a rather unpleasant working environment.  Wish I could work from home, but it's impossible without a copier or fax.

It did get better. I escaped! DH came home and watched the kids so I went to Livestrong and the grocery. It was packed. More snow/ice expected tomorrow.

DH could go shopping but he's not always good at reading labels. Bread is the worst for being potentially contaminated.

Did 38 min cardio, rowed and did three machines for 10 reps. Am tired and hungry. Ate 1/2 pack of cookies on way home:) Watching local food channel doesn't help. But have a new place for lunch after my appts on Thursday. A hot brown bagel. I love hot browns. Is a ky tradition.

Togetherness Was told the rowing machine is the best for bc. Opens up the chest. No difficulties. I would think everyone should massage. I'm assuming you're all healed up since you got foobs.

OTC that's so awesome you are feeling good and thinking about shopping.

GrammaB. I love feeding the birds but too many cats here. I think I counted a dozen at the barn next to us. Firebob left for a new home. The boy doesn't know. Rainbow is taking his place hanging out and getting into the car and trash.

Yes Idesim the Super Bowl commercials sucked. I too went to bed early. Good thing Downton Abbey comes on Thursday night.

Viv My son wants to go snowboarding so bad. I don't even know if he knows what it is. We call it tubing instead of bobbing. Maybe next year I'll have enough umph. Baby went out this afternoon and toppled in the snow backwards when her boot came off. Came inside crying cold, cold, cold but fussed more about her head. Just wanted it to be acknowledged.

Wren. Wish my DH could cook like that. He's getting better but. . . Likes to cook on high and doesn't always look for the correct pan. Baked biscuits and chocolate chip cookies on wax paper on a cooling rack. Not complaining. Tasted good but thought it interesting choice.

Hope I sleep well tonight and don't get sore or swollen. Told to walk tomorrow and take an Epsom salt bath plus drink lots.

Hello everyone. Dawny, M, bobo, ND, Granwe, SgC, PRB, Fia. Did I miss anyone? Sorry.

Hi! Zills, I'm so happy you got out! Great that DH came back and took care of some of the home business. A good workout feels so great! Never heard of a hot brown bagel, sounds yummy.

gB, congrats on the shovelling! And no claw, you are really healed.

Idesim, my chemo is every 3 weeks so next one will be Feb 20th. I'm definitely happy with the way it's going, I'm hoping it continues. Although losing my hair will be tough I think... Good luck with the other snow dump waiting for you!

Togertherness, I'm glad you have your prosthesis! I still have not worn mine, I still just use the poofs! Maybe when the weather is warmer and I wear thinner tops, I will want a more natural look. But yes, they are heavy! I guess you are still going to the PS since you're planning the next try at reconstruction? If not, why would you be going?

Hi M, I forgot about the sand flies, I know they were biting you in your garden but I did not think that they would also be around the bay. Poor you!

Viv, such a British scene you describe, the "pretend" skiing in the rain! :) Glad you had a big fire to make this a comfy time!

Wren - yes, there should be a place to go to mid-season to buy clothes for kids!

However, I was VERY lucky, I drove around to the closest kids stores and found the last boy snowsuit in his size. Yes! I did not want to go all the way to a mall/dept store. I didn't find good mits, though, but DS came back home with his missing one! His teacher had found it! So he's all set to enjoy the many more weeks of winter we have ahead of us. I felt a little queazy at times in the car, I don't usually get motion sickness, and I had a short nap this afternoon (first time in ages), but other than that, I felt normal.  I did some work at the end of the day and will work tomorrow although I was supposed to be off.

    Hugs!

Oh my, everyone has been busy. I am just in and have run out again to my neighbor for afternoon tea. Just had lunch, but might just fit in a little cake or a cookie!

Togetherness, I am so glad you have your Prosthesis! I have the Amoena Energy Light too, believe it or not, it is lighter than the others. I just did a test weigh in. My Contact is  about 555gm and the Energy light is 455gm. My actual breast weighed 975gm in the Path report.

I have Mary's micro bead foobs, and I really like them, but they are very light weight. I also have a couple of Jillianna's which are microbeads with weights, and another by TruLife which is a structured foam foob with a solid weight in the center. I like them all, but in different situations.

I have been massaging since day 1, and still massage my chest twice daily. It keeps the skin supple and stops any adheasions. I also had myofacsial release done with a massage therapist for months to keep my chest moving. I think pretty well all of us have been massaging. I only recently stopped doing the PT exercises for range of motion. I had full motion back very quickly, but they are really full on about continuing PT exercises here in Aus.

I started doing a form of Yoga called the 5 Tibetan Rites a few months after my surgery, and it has been a great help in keeping my chest open and rebuilding muscle. I just have to motivate myself to get into going to the gym now. I am hoping that the cooler weather will give me the impetus I need.

Hi ldesim, you're so right, I didn't really feel like entertaining in the heat, but I don't know that next week will be any better.

I had a look at the Superbowl commercials. I remember when I was working in TV and it was my job to put the commercials to air, our Grand Final Football commercials were around $100,000.00 and I was stressed to the max that I may screw one up, but these at $4,000,000.00 OMG, Id be too scared to press the button! The Volkswagon was good!

Zills, I am clapping you! Well done, and you got the children looked after too!

Bath sounds like a great idea! I hope you feel nothing but energy after a great sleep!

otceb! How lucky was that! That snowsuit must have had his name on it! LOL

The funny thing about the bloody sand flies is that they shouldn't be in my garden, but apparently can be blown there on the breeze, they actually live and breed on the shore, so the beach is really the  only place the blighters should be. In saying that, we are so close to the beach, I guess we just have to "cop it sweet" as the Aussies say. Everyone is talking about how bad they are this year though, even the "old timers" say they are the worst ever.

I am so pleased to hear that you're doing ok with the chemo! Take care M x

Good morning ladies this is such an active forum😄 I have not posted here before but I have been on BC.org since my Dx on 5/31/13. I had BLM on 7/18/13 with the intention of expanders but the positive results of the nodes tested let my DH, BS and PS to make the decision to delay the recon so as to not delay any treatment. It was difficult at first but I have read so many accounts of infections and problems I am very thankful now that they all had my best interest at heart😄 I have 4 more Taxotere treatments and then rads to do and I really have been giving a lot of thought as to wether I will even do recon or not and a lot of it will depend on the outcome of the radiation. I do have a set of Mary's microbeads but I am looking into a couple of good bra's and prosthetics and I know my ins will cover at least two I believe, so any recommendations would be great, thank you.

Sorry GavinGMa. Totally flat. Laugh at myself with foobs. Someone will be along with advice.

Going to hospital. Granny has been taken to hospital with high heart rate, fluctuating bp and cold extremities. She's 99 and wanted to go a long time ago. I haven't seen her since April, just before my sx.

GavinsGma, Welcome. Our resident foob expert is Ariom, who has a whole collection in a special cabinet we call the foobmoire. I think I would stick to Mary's microbeads until after rads. The silicone is rather heavy and you may not want to wear a tight fitting bra. A lot of people talk about getting a front closing sports bra from WalMart. It won't hold a heavy foob, but I think the beads would work in it. How old is Gavin? Aren't grandchildren wonderful?

10°F (-12.2°C) and windy again today.  With the windchill temp is -30°F (-34.4°C).  I have a huge patch of ice at the bottom of my side porch steps. :(( I need to get some of my cat's corn litter down on it so I won't fall. (I have fallen right there a couple of times in the past.) Problem is the bag I want to use (scented, he doesn't like it) is in the garage!  I should have planned ahead.

My low back is really aching today from the shoveling yesterday. But no claw so that is something good.  Going to be a quiet sitting with heating pad day here.

Oh Ariom, you are still being tormented by the sand flies?  That is awful!! I hope you get a cool spell and they die out.

Togetherness, I'm surprised you've gotten your foob, but happy for you that you have! Yes the silicon ones are heavy, I can't stand mine.  Still waiting for 6 mon post to try the contact ones.  I am a double so going flat isn't a problem here.  Though I did have some balance issues in the very early days. I was never given any instructions about massaging my scars, I read about it here and do it several times a day to this day.

Nope, shoveling snow isn't fun, but it is good exercise.  I overdid yesterday and am paying for it today.

ldesim, yeah, I am still pretty colorful.  I bruise very easily so it doesn't take much to leave a mark and the fall was a giant bruise maker. The strange thing is I never had any bruising on my chest!  Not a bit.  My PS was really surprised as I carried a huge bruise on my hand from a botched IV for a couple of weeks.  Maybe it was the Ace Bandage for 2 weeks, I don't know.

Really, you are still under construction? That really sux! Can you rent a copier or fax machine?  Between the treacherous weather and the fumes, might be something to think about.

posting so I don't lose this

Zills, so glad your day got better!  Really glad you got to go to Livestrong and shop. You needed a break that was for sure.  Poor birds here in the winter don't have much to scrounge up so almost everyone around has bird feeders out.  My feeder is in the open so the seeds that spill go into the snow.   Thus I toss the seeds under the trees and in sheltered areas so they don't get covered in the snow.  It is so fun to listen to them chirping happily under the trees!  I have one neighbor's cat that comes around a lot, thinking this is a bird buffet for him.  Every time I see him I chase him away. My cat is an indoor cat so just watched the birds from inside.  Love his "cacking" his jaws at them by the kitchen slider!

otceb, glad you are still feeling well.  Yay!  You found a snowsuit!!  And the missing glove returned home too!  Good on you for taking a nap!!  Getting rest is so important to good healing.

Hi Shary and welcome to the thread!  Can't be much help here either. Totally flat, though I have some prostheses and bras but feel so very uncomfortable in them, I just don't wear them.  The more I read about all the problems women are having with their recons, the happier I am that I opted not to do any at all.  The more I read, I fear the PS's are not giving a true picture about how common complications really are.  I find that appalling!

Well, going to venture out to retrieve the cat litter and feed the birds.

    Hugs for all!

Hello Gals! I am home from sunny San Diego, had a wonderful time! We did many tours, had days where we just sat by the beach and read books, friends daughter took us to Desert Sands and we soaked in the mineral springs (wonderful), one day we were at beach, mountains, and desert. I didnt realize how much I really needed this trip, it has been a challenging year or almost year. one bad thing at the end was when dh picked up my suitcase one section was tore open and contents missing!! Thanks goodness it was only a travel hairdryer and a pair of shoes. I reported it and they found my items and will replace the suitcase. So glad the machine didnt eat any other part of suitcase where my extra foob was.. that would have been a little touchy explaining that to the young man at the counter!! Hubby is pretty glad to see me... absence makes the heart grow fonder???

Hi Shary.. and welcome.. Zillls, hope you are ok and Granny is too or at least at peace. A hard situation no matter what.

I have so much reading posts to catch up on, well wishes to everyone!

ndgirl, welcome back!! You seem to have had a fabulous trip! Sun, sand, relaxation, that's perfect! Sorry about your suitcase, glad the airline replaced it. Enjoy the reunion with DH!

    Zills, how is your grandmother?

Shary, welcome! Unfortunately, i can't help you much either for foobs or bras, i don't love what i have and still just wear the poofs. Good luck with the rest of your chemo.

gB, I hope you rested today and did not fall on the ice. Enough falls for you this winter!

M, i hope your day with the carer (in court?) went well.

All good here, worked (from home) today, but gotta stop pigging out, i'm gaining weight on chemo, i'm ridiculous.

Hopefully this gives everybody as big of a smile as it gave me.  The kangaroo was rescued from the wild fires.
