In the bag JS.
Only pix of kids.
Have settled into a routine.
Had some swelling. Think it's too much salt. Still have hot flashes even though I avoided caffeine and chocolate today. So screw that.

Hiya Zills, glad to hear you've settled in, sorry about the flashes though!
Been thinking about JS all day, I hope she's comfortable now and that the news is good. I hope Sailman is doing ok too.
I will check back before bed....take it easy everyone. M x

In the bag for js and sailman, hoping we hear good news today.
Zills no chocolate or caffeine…two main food groups bet it is beautiful there and fresh ocean air.
Woke up to this unusual summer polar vortex, only about 70 today when it should be about 90, time for yard work as weeds are taking over.
xoxo to all.

hello everyone!!!
Jsj I too am in the bag with you and pray for fast healing of surgery and little side effects from everything and good reports! Keep us posted. Sailman, take some deep breaths and relax. I know the tensions of care taking so be sure to be extra good to yourself!
Now for some good news! Got the oncotype DX test back and NO chemo! In fact chemo would be considered dangerous to me according to the report! Yay and Praise to my God!! Also got my new foob which I love! It is waterproof and I can swim in it. I didn't realize I was so big and pretty much wore the wrong bra size all my life! Looking good now ;-).
Ndgirl's how is Marilyn??? Praying for her as well

Thinking of sailman and jsj. So glad they didn't find anything more. Sending her healing thoughts.
Z, F that! Missing you, it's funny. Think will text you right now. Taking care of kids day, working night, sinus infection. School starts Monday.
M, I do not know how you even think up those improvements. They sound so creative. It's all I can do to keep things clean. I am really impressed.
Thinking of ND's friend too! I am so glad she has you. XX

Morning all! I am so pleased to have read Sailman's post. I hope our girl is feeling ok today. Hearing the news that they didn't find anything was so amazing. She still has a shitty time ahead, but she will do it!
I am up early today, meeting a friend at 9am in town for coffee before she starts work and then I have to pick up helium balloons for a lunch back in my town, later today. Just hoping I can tether these things well for the drive home!
Hi Bobo, give Zills my love next time you text her, will you. I hope she is having a great holiday!
nd, I hope you are doing ok too, thinking of you and Marilyn!
Fis, good to see you and sgc. Helenna, Dawny!
O2, way to go, no chemo for you! I am so pleased you love the Foob, it really does make such a difference when you find what suits you. No stopping you now!
I read somewhere that a staggering number of women have been wearing the wrong bra size for years!
I will check back later...M x

Just read Sailman's post, so happy for jsj!! Hope she is feeling better today and healing well.
O2 yay for no chemo!! I think I had never worn the right size bra!! Never could find something that felt right. That is why I am secretly happy to not have to wear one any more!

Wow, quiet here again!
I had a great day yesterday, busy, but fun.
I had coffee with a friend in the morning in town, picked up helium party balloons and headed to lunch back in my town for one of the girls from my group who had her 60th birthday. It turned uot there were 11 of us at the lunch, three from the Pink Ladies and the rest from the Birthday Girl's Church. It was a hoot, lots of laughing and surprisingly, also many questions about BC. Lots of misconceptions were ironed out over lunch!
The biggest surprise was when one woman in the group thanked me for being open about it and told me she had chemo the day before and that she has BC, she hadn't told anyone, or spoken about it.
Makes me wonder how many are silently living with it out there, not making contact with anyone. It's all the more reason to say thank you, to all of you for being there for each other!
I am waiting to hear if I got an appointment for a facial today. It's Thursday and I am visiting my friend at the Opp Shop this morning.
Take it easy ladies..catch you later. M x

You know, it is quiet here. I guess with summer, and healing, and just life people don't hang here to much. Too bad. This was a fun active thread.

Spookiesmom lets make it an active thread! I love hearing from and about what you guys are up to!
Today DH and I took one of our lab rescues to a beautiful little park about 30 minutes from here, not many folks there which always baffles the mind….middle of summer, weather in midwest was unusually perfect for mid July today, where are all the kids….at home playing video games? But we had such a fun time walking her around, then we went to Starbucks and sat outside with our coffees. Did you know they give dogs free "pup cups" if you ask? Its just a cup of whipped cream and dogs love it.
Ariom I think this bc thing looks like an epidemic! Over the past few weeks two gals mentioned to me that they also had had bc, I never knew because they never let anyone know. I told one of my nurses at the hospital about this website and particularly this discussion board, she was really interested and said she would tell people. Seems like they should hand out informational brochures at the first appt with the BS, with resources. My mom died of bc when I was in college, back then there were no resources, it saddens me so much whenever I think of how she must have suffered in silence and the lack of information available to her. I found this site just by chance on my own while surfing the internet, I am so thankful I did as the support from everyone has really helped. I've always wished that I had been blessed with a sister, through this board and the gals in particular on this thread it feels like I have several sisters….you and spookiesmom for starters!
Ok lets keep this active and fun! Hope you guys are having a great day! xoxoxo

I think the summer has a lot to do with it. It is quiet over on my diabetes forum too. But Spookie, you may be right too that as people heal and get through treatments, they may slowly get on with life and not post as much.

Yes it is quiet here. I have no further update on Marilyn, I am giving her time to digest all this and I know she is deciding things, she will call me when she is ready and also knows more of what will happen and when.
Today is our 48th wedding anniversary!! And they said it wouldnt last! We arent celebrating big tonight as we are leaving on vacation on Sunday. We will spend 2 nights in Medora ND in the Badlands, go to their wonderful musical, have a pitchfork fondue, and just relax before heading on to Montana and Wyoming. We will end up at a wedding of our friends son on Flat Head Lake, which is close to Glacier Nat. Park. Looking forward to it but in a way I just hate to leave because our lawn, flowers and garden are beautiful, only be gone a little more than a week but there will be changes in the gardens in that time.
Helena, I so agree about no resources also when my mom had bc, but she always talked about it but a lady in town in later years was so secretive about it and everything, she wouldnt look at a magazine that had an article about bc, said she just did not want to think about it. This board is my salvation and how good it is to talk to ladies that fully understand. Did anyone else hear Joan Lunden on tv this morning stating she has been dx with triple negative breast cancer, Robin Roberts was interviewing her, interesting. She felt she had to let the public know as being on Good Morning AMerica for many years and we all knew what she was doing then. Glad she felt she could, but everyone needs to decide on their own. Friend Marilyn said at her excercise class she put on her former teacher shoes and stood at the front of the room and got everyone's attention, told them her dx and pleaded with all to get their mammos.
Beautiful summer night so heading to the deck until dusk,(if the skeeters dont chase me in.. they are terrible)

GrandmaB listen to this. Had my last A1c was 6.8. Ok, that's MY fault, nobody else shoved that stuff in my mouth. PCP says that's good!!!!!! I looked him in the eye and said I could be around another 20 years, and it wasn't HIS body parts that I'd be missing. Damn ACCORD study. Can you believe that??????
Helene, in the summer I don't do much, hide in a/c mostly. I do try to get the dogs to our dog park daily, always after 7. I didn't know that about Starbucks, they would have it all over their faces. Lab faces are easier to clean.

While waiting to start some test, I picked up a copy of Cure magazine. In the back was a huge list of resources for bc, or any cancer patient. BCO was one of those listed. And here I am, have made friends with, and met many wonderful women. I don't have biological sisters, those here are better!

video games. Ugh. I was at my DDs to stay with the grands at 8 am today. They are 9 & 6 1/2. Both still in Jammie's, blowing up the world at that ungodly hour. UGH

My HMO gave me a booklet when I saw the surgeon the first time. It listed BCO right after 2 government websites. I'm so glad they did. I've received so much support here.
Thought I would give you a kitten update. Someone else is taking part of them tomorrow and I'm trying to transfer all. The space I have available is not enough for larger kittens.
Five is a lot when they're bottle babies. They are sure cute tho. They're not into the bottle as much but want to be cuddled and petted just the same. Now if their litter box aim could improve.

ndgirl, Happy Anniversary! Wow 48 years, Congratulations! That's really something.
Helenna, I agree about the epidemic, it blows my mind how many people I have met or have heard about facing BC. My Mother had it too, in '94. She was Dx just 4 months after my Dad passed and I was terrified I'd lose them both, but she made it for another, albeit with dementia, for 11 years and passed of something unrelated. I did all the research I could at that time, but it was before the internet was in every home so it was a lot of Library hit and miss. She didn't have any other women to talk to about it and I don't think we ever knew exactly what kind of BC she actually had.
I am an only child, so having contact with women who have an understanding of the fear associated with all this stuff is wonderful.
I am going to have my facial today at 2.45 so I will catch everyone later! M x

Wren what a gorgeous photo. I can imagine they'd be a handful. Haha missing the litterbox, that's cute and funny too!

hello everyone!!
It sure is good to see y'all!! Glad it is quiet here that means all is well! I started. Aramid ex yesterday . So far so good . Hope it stays that way. Also got some calcium. My onc doc wants me to take 1200 mg a day. Also been working on swim suit ideas. No stores here carry mast suits so making my own. I think I have a workable idea. Send ideas if you have any.
K.
I am still alive so that is a good thing!

Hey 02, I played around with regular swimsuits that have the small pockets in them and even tried sewing in a partial bra to a Speedo, athletic swimsuit. It depends a lot on the size, as to whether it will work very well. For me, as a "D" on my remaining side, a Mx suit was really what I need. The regular suits are cut too low at the front for me and the straps fall off the shoulders.
If you are petite with an A or B cup, you will probably not have too much of a problem with regular swimwear with pockets, but if you are one who sews and can make your own suit, that's fantastic. You could follow the Mx swimwear style and customize it for yourself.
I buy most of mine online, on sale. Amoena or Lands End have great sales and there are often lots for sale on Ebay. It isn't unusual for me to pick up a $120.00 swimsuit for $20 or $30 and the difference in the cut of the suit makes all the difference, with straps that don't move and a neckline that stays put and pockets that hold any foob in place.
Good luck with it and I would love to hear how it goes and what you end up making. M x

Spookie, it really yanks my chain when the ADA guidelines say it is OK to be 180 pp. My last A1c in June was 4.7% and my pcp said it was too low!!! Wrong! I never go over 120, rarely 100 with only 1000mg Metformin & lc/hf/ketogenic woe. I really believe they just don't know enough and/or don't expect patients to be compliant. They say those high #'s are OK, hand out the drugs and line the pockets of big pharma.
Sorry for the petite rant!

ndgirl, congrats on 48 years!! If I had stayed with 1st hubby, today would have been our 47th..... was never going to happen! I'm not sure if they are ripe yet, but while you are in the Flathead, look for the cherries!! Since my diabetes dx, I can't eat cherries so I don't pay attention any more.
When are you there? I'm about 2.5 hours south from the lake depending where on the lake you are. Maybe we could hook up for a lunch or something?
Oh Wren, the kitties are soooo cute!

Good Evening Ladies,
It is awfully quiet here tonight. I have had a hell of a time with my wrists and hands since the dreaded tamoxifen failure! It really set off my arthritis and it has taken me forever to get some relief so I can type! "If it's not one thing, it's another!" I start Arimidex in another week...yikes!
Gentle hugs to JS and sailman. In my thoughts and prayers.
O2 congrats on no chemo! I am so happy you got to dodge that one!
Dawny, you say Ya'll as much as you please! Just remember the plural is: all ya'll and the plural possessive is: all ya'lls! That's southern English grammar from a former Yankee English teacher! Lol
Glad to hear you are settled in Zills! Screw the hot flashes and enjoy yourself! I know I may get very warm after a glass of wine, but I am also much happier! I hope you are having the time of your life!
Helenna, you rescue labs! Hooray!!! I didn't know that Starbucks would do that. Wish we had one closer to home!
The kittens are adorable Wren! You are so wonderful for bottle feeding them! I work with Great Dane Rescue and have never had such tiny creatures. Missing the litterbox...too funny!
Happy Anniversary ND! Wow! 48 years is quite an accomplishment! You must have been a child bride!
I don't know if more people have BC these days, or if people just talk about it more. My mom was dx in 2000 and really didn't discuss much about it. I don't even know what type she had! Everything went downhill so fast that I didn't get much information before she died within a year. I saw the GMA piece with Joan Lunden. It seemed awkward, just a bit off somehow. So sorry she became another member of the club no one wants to join.
I am very grateful that you are all here. I don't know how I could have survived this past year without you! Everything I never wanted to know about foobs I learned from M! No one-not my BS, MO, or PCP- has ever mentioned anything about foobs! I have never been fitted, sized, nor personally seen one! I don't even know where to go for one! Or should I say two? In any case, I thank you all for being my sisters!
I too am living inside during all the heat Spookie. Seems like all the kids start in with the video games first thing in the morning. GD1 will be 10 on Saturday and has asked for video games, DVD's, and other assorted indoor presents. She would stay in the pool all day, but no one has the heat tolerance for it. When it feels like a bath it's time to stay out of the water!
I think our heat wave has decided to give us a day off here. We have been living life like we were in the tropics; thunderstorms daily, humidity, and screaming heat! Needless to say, not much is being done! Reminds me of what my elder children call, "the divorce trip". After I left my first husband, I took the kids to Florida. My DD1 went to Space Camp for a week and my DS and I spent the week hitting every attraction but Disney and Universal. When DD1 was finished with Space Camp we all went to Disney and Universal. I really could set my watch by the afternoon thunderstorm every day! We all had a great holiday since I had inherited some extra cash from my grandparents! The heat was as memorable as any I have experienced! We did spend a lot of time in the hotel pool and I had a great tan! Well this stroll down memory Lane has ended. Look forward to hearing from everyone.
Sending hugs to all, S

Well... I come to the board to read every week or so, but I rarely post. It does indeed seem like there is an epidemic going on... or maybe we are just more aware? I wonder how often I heard of a person's diagnosis, but like many people, it went in one ear and out the other. I think I had this notion that BC wasn't all that dangerous anymore. I mean....they pump all those wonderful statistics to the world along with their pink merchandise..it can't be that bad, right? Funny how your perspective changes after you've been diagnosed and start paying attention.
A friend of mine's sister was recently diagnosed (their younger sister died from BC many years ago). The biopsy showed DCIS, but I warned my friend that the pathology after surgery could very well come back cancer. How many stories have I read like that? Too many. And yes, her sister has IDC. To make matters worse, the surgeon didn't do a sentinel node biopsy during the lumpectomy, so she had to have a second surgery! I just can't imagine in this day and age a surgeon being so confident it's not cancer that they don't sample the nodes. But then, I never asked for the details, so maybe he left that decision up to her. I know he had told her that he thought he might have gotten it all in the biopsy. I didn't say anything when I heard this... but in my head I was thinking "yeah right".
Anyhow, I keep up to date with all of you, I just don't post. Oh, I write posts... but I don't click send. You should all thank me for that! lol I think it's best I keep my doom and gloom to myself. OK.. clicking send.

Hi PRB, good top see you, I have missed you!
It is a bloody epidemic! I had that very argument at lunch yesterday about the Pink awareness crap and how it has made people complacent about BC. There was one woman there, who piped up about how ludicrous it is for those women with that "gene thing" as she called it, to have their breasts removed for no good reason! There were 3 of us, (Pink Ladies) at the table and we all leaped in sputtering and shouting her down. She didn't know what had hit her! LOL
PRB, when I was offered my choice between the lumpectomy with radiation and a Mx, my surgeon told me he wouldn't do a SNB for a lumpectomy, because they prefer to check the pathology of the lump first, so you can avoid having any lymph disturbance, unless there is any evidence of invasion, but with a Mx they always take the SNB because after the Mx the tissue is gone and it isn't possible, so they have to do an Axillary clearance which will up the chances of LE. That may be the same reason for your friend's sister.
Din't worry about what you have to say in your posts, we love to hear from you, just click and send, don't waste your posts! M x

sgc, lovely to see you!
I can't believe how many of us are the Daughters of Mothers who had BC, and I was told that it was only about 12% to 15% chance that I'd have it, as a familial link.
I am so sorry to hear that you're having Arthritis pain, it's awful. I had an out of the blue flare up a week or so ago.
I am surprised there was no info on Foobs given to you after your surgery, even if you don't want to use them, it would be nice to have the option. But I am happy to have given you all the info you never wanted on Foobs! LOL
I envy you your warm weather, there has been a lot of snow not far from here this week and the winds today are out of control and freezing. It won't be long, though, till I am complaining about the heat!
Oh S, I love Disneyland! and Universal, it's so nice to walk down memory lane!
I went into town and had a fabulous facial today at the beauty school. I feel very pampered this evening even though I will likely look like I have bad sunburn tomorrow! LOL
Take it easy ladies! M

PRB, good to hear from you, I 2nd the motion for you to not delete your posts, does not matter here one bit. When I was dx I was told no matter if I chose a lumpectomy or mastectomy they would check the nodes, which I was pleased with.
GB, yes we have been told about the cherry orchards and that they should be ready... cant wait.. would be great if we could meet up, I will see how our time is and pm you if it is possible.
SCG, I was a child bride..18, we made it but I do not recommend it, but life was different then too. not unusual to be married at 18. One good thing about being married young is that when grandkids come along we are still young enough to really enjoy them, but dont get me wrong they still can play me out! I have friends my age that still arent g.parents and say by the time it happens I will be too old to do anything fun with them. Neither of my boys were married young, but if they did I would have been a very young gma.
Wren, love the kitty pic,, you are an angel, as the rest of you gals that do rescue work.
Ariom, I too have wondered how many of us on the boards had a Mother with bc.. I know you, and I think GB not sure, SG, myself, who else? Would be interesting to take a poll here just on this thread.
How are you BOBO??, hope you arent running yourself ragged, such a busy gal!
O2, good luck on arimidex, I generally tolerate it pretty well, just noticed this morning that a trigger thumb may be approaching, but not too bad yet. I dont like to take this crap but guess if it helps keep the beast away I will as long as I can tolerate it. I have a little more that a year done, they said 5 years but am reading that some are suggesting 10..
Hello to all

Good Morning everyone, I can't tell you how bleak it is here today. The wind has howled all night, the rain has bucketed down and everything is a drab shade of grey..yuck!
The builder has just arrived to start the blue boarding for the tile that is going up on either side of the front doors, at least he is on the protected side of the house.
I have been thinking about JS this morning, I wonder how shes doing, boy she's had to have a lot of surgery in a short time, she must be so exhausted. Hugs if you read this JS!
ndgirl, you have a good idea there, an awful lot of us seem to be, second generation.
Will you think of me when you eat those Cherries, please? They are about my favorite fruit and good for Arthritis, would you believe, they are one of the anti inflammatory foods. I hope you have a agreat time and the chance of a catch up with gB would be fantastic.
Bobo, where are you? I hope things have settled a bit for you. We need an update!
I am going to rug up and go out to pick more Lemons and Grapefruit. I took a couple of big bags to the Opp Shop and they sold in minutes, so I will drop more down there today. Then I'll be back in the warm, it's too cold for me to even think about painting in my shed today!
Take it easy...M x
