Prices have come way down on the SAD lights and there are instructions on the web about making your own. I have a double whammy since Dec-Apr was also a season of childhood loss. I think the short gray days register somewhere in my brain. Sometimes Calif. sunshine will bring feelings of well-being. I was born in Long Beach and moved to Kansas when I was 2yo.

Sgc, there is no possible way you are nearly sixty!  I think you a liar, liar, pants on fire!  Lol. Can I ask you a question?  Tell me to mind my own business if you like, but why have you had so many chemos?  And did you have another diagnosis back in 2003?

For bobos dad, I sent some Tim Tams, which are Australian chocolate cookie/biscuit things, some furry friends cadburys choc, that has a koala on it, I realise it could possibly all melt, but I wanted to send something he couldn't get over there.  But the best thing I found was a card that looked like an ice cream or lollipop, it had a wooden stick, and real looking sprinkles, and it was thick, not flat like a card.  But when I opened it to write a message, I realised it said happy birthday!  So, I had to purchase another.  I so wanted to send that yummy looking card!  When is his birthday bobo, maybe I can still send it then!  Ooh, we are an evil bunch aren't we?  Xx

No, I did not send a card with, just wrote get well, wasnt sure if I would get Bobo in trouble with MD if she knew we were all her friends doing this so I just left it at that and didnt put my name or address either, only zip code. Meant to ask Bobo about that but forgot so just sent it! wish the box would have been bigger too, but living in a rural area no time to find anything, mine probably wont get there before Bobo, but she will know our intents!! chuckling at all of us doing this... wheee!

Thanks Wren, I will check out how to make one and then will probably go buy one! Lol

Yes Dawny, I turned 59 on July 28th! I was 38 when I had DD2 and every year she would inform me that I was the oldest mommy in the class!  Lol  DH turned 62 on August 28th and he still has a full head of dark hair without any grey!  He is just starting to get lines around his eyes. I had so many different chemos because I had a near fatal reaction to the first one, had the second kind before surgery, and had to have it again after surgery because cancer was found in 7 nodes-the largest was 3cm.  The second chemo didn't get rid of all of the original tumor nor was it effective on the nodes so I had to have a third. I had 5 different tumors in my left ovary in 2000.  The doctor told me they were precancerous, told DH there was only 3 different ones and they weren't cancerous.  (DH and I were only married for 6 months.) Don't know which story was correct, but I don't have any female parts-she took everything out.  It has been referred to as my cavity!  I do find it strange that everything has occurred on my left side.  I don't know what type of BC my mom had.  She didn't discuss it and never made it to the first anniversary of her MX.  I know it was in her left as well.  My BS said I didn't need genetic counseling because I am HER2+ and that is never BRAC.  It is true that it is not BRAC 1, but it could be BRAC 2 or something else so I am going to push for it so my DD's and DGD's will know. (My mom didn't have any siblings and her dad died when she was 2 so I have no history for that side of the family.) I think that is it in a nutshell!

I will have to look for some Tim Tams the next time I am in the gourmet shoppe.  Sounds delicious!  S

Still think he is James Bond Susan!  In a uniform, with no grey hairs!  It is probably a hard hobo retire from also.  You have had a hard time with chemo, it is supposed to help us, not nearly kill us!  Geez Louuuiiise!  Xx

ND Thanks for calling me strong, I 'm usually called a b!tch!  Lol  Yes Spookie, it was the dreaded Taxotere! Some people can handle it, but I was not one of them.  MO said I was "allergic".  Funny but the Taxol was a comparative breeze and I believe they have some of the same properties.  I had given my list of allergies-trees, pine and other types, was on it.  Why were they surprised?  I wasn't just sick, I literally lost days.  I was out of my mind and thankfully have little memory of the worst of it.  Scary chit for me!  Now the third round was another story.  Started out with this isn't so bad to I can't get off the couch!  That stuff was cumulative.  By the time I had my last two infusions I didn't have any "good" days between them.  I always tell people that that was my experience which doesn't mean it will be theirs!   I don't do drugs well at all.  Still not on a anti-estrogen due to side effects.  And so it goes....S

Yeah, MO said this would be easier than the A/C. When DH brought me into the office in a wheelchair cause I hurt too much to walk, MO said it was a severe allergic reaction. Did you peel skin from soles of feet to scalp?

Yes, everything peeled!  It also gave me the neuropathy in my feet.  Wicked stuff!

Have the PN in hands and feet. Lucky us!!!!

I looked around after that , what I saw led me to think it was the carrier in the chemo. Polysorbate 80 that caused it, not pine trees. Shortly after that my "wonderful" insurance co. kicked my MOs practice out if network, so never had a chance to ask.

There seems to be cross allergens.  For example, I am allergic to raw tomatoes, berries, and orange pulp, which actually has a name for it, however, being allergic to them makes it highly likely that I am also allergic to certain other foods.  If the polysorbate 80 is what caused the reaction, it would have been nice for my MO to tell me that!  I have had an awful time with the anti estrogen drugs-literally debilitating!  Could it be from what ever mixers are put in there?  Sheesh!  I know many who swear the SE's are different depending on where the drug is manufactured.  My SE's are so bad it doesn't matter where they come from.  Are you highly drug sensitive?  (I surely wasn't in the late 60's early 70's.  But then that was all natural!  Lol)

I just looked up what foods contain polysorbate 80.  I can not eat ice cream or yogurt.  We believe that I am lactose intolerant.  Maybe it is the polysorbate 80 that makes me sick as a dog!  Holy sh!t!  You might have solved a 59 year old mystery as I am the only one in my family! Thanks Spookie!

I can remember Moms telling me,, "don't give my kid the red amoxicillin, it makes him hyper. I need the grape one"

Drugs from different manufacturers can have different solvents, or fillers or binders,, and you could be allergic to those things and not the actual drug. Or your stomach may not absorb it the same way. That's why it is not good to switch between generics all the time the way the insurance companies/drug stores do.  They buy whatever is the cheapest generic that month.

I wouldn't give my kids red anything.  If there was red dye in it-they were hyper!  I can't eat foods with aspartame or monosodiumglutamate (MSG) as they give me a migraine.  MSG also makes me swell.  I should probably eat organic, non processed foods, but that would cost a fortune! It is sad that the drug store buys the cheapest generic for the highest profit margin.  So much for concern over our health!

it's all about making money.  Not saying that the cheapest generics are bad,, that is not necessarily so,,, it's just your body may handle one better than the other,, and switching around all the time,,, I personally feel is not good.

Have you tried the brand name Arimidex? I hear you can get it for $30/month from the maker.

I am allergic to penicillin but can eat blue cheese. Levaquin makes me sick. That's the only meds I know about.

The AIs.  Well, I started arimadex from India. All the ladies on that thread said to get the generic from Israel. So I did, se's are much better. Warm flushes. I really think that it's the carrier in those.

Polysorbate 80 was either Wiki or Mayo

And while I was looking around, adrimycin is made from red dirt, and is an antibiotic!

Glennie, back me up on that!

not sure about the red dirt,, it is derived from a bacterium.

Which is why it kills all the good bacteria and causes mouth sores and the dreaded diarrhea! I guess a little dirt can hurt!  Lol  My  nurse gave me the "good" Arimidex to try.  All of it was debilitating.  Still waiting on my insurance for Femara.  I think the MO wrote it so I couldn't get the generic because of my drug sensitivities.

If you don't want the generic, have the MD write "Brand medically necessary" on the RX.   Laws may vary by state, but that is what works in FL.  I'm sure every state has similiar requirements.

I've been wondering about generic Arimidex, started on it about 6 weeks ago, no se so I hope it is working. When I got it filled I wasn't aware of the brand name being available by mail for $30 / month, would have preferred the brand name not generic.
