Good morning everyone! Chilly day here, got the heating on this morning.
Yes Bobo, you know how to push my buttons when you overdo things. I hope you are taking Green Vibrance to help with the nutrition and the ProBiotics.
Did you not find the sewing machine, or is this just the hand sewing to finish it off?
I haven't done a tree for years, gave my huge one away to one of Colin's attendants for her kids to enjoy. I make a wreath for the front door, and decorate the two big planters on either side of the front door, that's it.
Wren, the only time I ever ate Jerky was when I worked a Duty Free at the Airport for a year. They sold it there and the reps from the company that supplied it would give us samples. Can't say I really liked it, but it think it is an aquired taste!
OOOh ldesim, I have another gadget for you. There is a company here called Enjoy Candles, they make a fantastic LED 3 light, flame-less candle. They are sensational. I have them all over the house because I can't use real candles with Colin, if there was a fire, and he was here alone, he may not be able to get out. These aren't like the single light plastic ones that have been around a long time. These are made from paraffin, just like the real ones, but with three small LED globes that flicker. I saw a new one in a decor shop when I was in Melbourne that is made by the Disney Company and has an interesting moving cut out flame that flickers with an LED light below it, very pricey, but nice.
Oh Zills, I didn't know there was a Shingles vaccine. I got shingles when my Dad died, from the stress, it was awful.
I didn't catch when you are starting the Rads, is it soon? I hope the boy is over his bug!
I am worried about the long drive for you too, is there no-one that can go with you?
I finally got the robe finished yesterday. It took forever, but I have done a huge purge and now have a dressing room full of bags for ebay, or a yard sale. My neighbors want to do a yard sale, so I may just try that out. We have lots of stuff in the boat shed that came out of the renovation and was too good to throw out. I want to renovate the boat shed at some time, so getting it emptied would be a good thing!
Take care everyone....M x0 -
Did find sewing machine...hand sewing to finish.
Yes please get that boat shed cleared out... I am going to live in there (with Dex). NOT Idesim. She has said she will live in the boat shed but she will not. Dex will love me the most.0 -
Am NOT doing Green Vibrance or any vits! It's terrible. Just don't want to feel queasy, so have not. I have stationed G Vibrance at work with a box of almond milk. Will just now yell at DLLP because she is supposed to force me to take vitamins. I did just have an Airborne and a protein shake.
Up in the night with the baby two nights. She is making loud noise in her sleep that indicates activity, and then I butter a roll and watch her grip it in her giant hands and eat it, and then I pat her back.0 -
I meant to add in my last post that I think I will look into the Shingles shot. I had chicken pox very mildly as a child, I guess not even enough to have immunity to it. When my kids got it, I got it too in my mid 20's. It was awful, much worse than what my kids had. Guess there is something to be said about having childhood diseases when you are a child and not an adult!!0 -
I better get cracking on that boat shed Bobo! Dex will love you!
I have to see a photo of this Mouse, it has been such a labor of love for you! I am so sorry to hear of the night time waking. You're a great Mom! I spent many long nights with my Bec wheezing and gasping with Asthma when she was young. It's a dreadful thing, that fear for our children.
Don't know what and Airborne is, but the protein shake is a good thing! If the Green Vibrance makes you feel queasy, maybe try another one, but get the probiotics into you some way, it helps to boost the immune system, and you're going to need it. I also meant to mention the hand sanitizer, do you carry it everywhere? I became known as the hand sanitizer Queen because I had little bottles stashed everywhere during the lead up to my surgery. I was so damn paranoid that I'd pick something up, that I became obsessed. I couldn't bare the thought of having to wait all over the holidays to be able to be scheduled again.
gB, I'd have the shingles shot if it was going to prevent a bad breakout. It isn't a fun thing to have.
I had my tonsils out when I was in my late teens, that was the worst surgery ever, I kid you not, much worse than this one. I don't know why they waited that long, I always had throat issues as a kid.
Have you received your stuff from the fitter yet?0 -
Zills, my port has been in since July 2012, he says it won't come out till Sept 2014. I'm high risk to reoccur so he wants it in. He says if I can go 2-3 years and nothing, then I've got a good chance of being ok. With all that, I don't care if I die from something else with the sucker still in there. The port flushes and blood draws are a time consuming nuisance and reminder, but really not a biggie.0 -
I want to see the mouse too!! I bet its adorable.
Excuse me, but I called boat shed first... so just back off there Bobogirl.
I have a feeling since I'm on another year of Herceptin that they may steer me towards getting the port... I'm really hoping to avoid that at all costs.
M, I wish I could go to your yard sale!
How are we feeling Bobogirl? I'm upset to hear the princess has had some activity.. I hope she is ok.
Zills, any luck with the ceiling fan or microwave shelf? My microwave is a breadbox, I rarely use it, but bread stays fresh in it for a long time lol. It's on a cart because I don't have the counter space and no room over the oven because I have a big pot rack there. One of these days hopefully we'll be able to afford a kitchen reno.. my kitchen is dated to say the least. I miss having a pantry, which I had in my old place. It was a great place for all unused appliances to live. Now they are all in the basement.
Going to watch the last 2 episodes of The Block.. can't believe I finally got through it! M, did you see it at all when you were in Melbourne?
I will add the candles to the growing list of things to take a look at The plastic candles are the exact ones I use lol. I've had them for so many years! I drive Joe insane with the amount of extension cords I set out at Xmas. It's a tradition now haha.0 -
I want to get a battery operated fake candle to put in the pumpkin on Halloween. Last thing I ever want is to catch a little kid on fire. Those princess costumes would go up in a flash.
I got the shingles shot. DH had shingles on his forehead and they were worried about his eye. I guess they can make you blind if they get in the eye. My BFF had shingles earlier this year although she'd had the shot. They told her she would have a milder case and she did.
DH had his recital yesterday. He is taking shakahachi flute lessons. They had a workshop with a teacher from Japan, then the student recital. That evening the 2 teachers gave a concert. I didn't attend that. Finally he will play different pieces for a change. He practiced the four pieces for the recital for weeks.0 -
You can put glow sticks in them too... that's worked well for me in the past... I think they last about 12 hours. I have a bunch of them too.. If we had more time until Halloween, i would have sent you some.0 -
Birdie, laughing about DH's flute lessons and the four songs over and over again! We are going to have to get you some earplugs for Christmas!
Our pumpkins collapsed in the humidity, just as I predicted they would. So DLLP bought another pumpkin this weekend. Hopefully it will not rot before Thursday.0 -
wren
Been there, heard that. DD is a music major, flute was principle instrument. Bagpipes 2nd. Flute practice was MUCH easier on ears. Competed with both, pro piper now. Teaches elementary music.0 -
Bagpipes! Peeing myself. That sounds so fun!0 -
Morning all!
Tried to get some yard work done yesterday, but the Mozzies were horrendous. I got bitten all over. My neighbor has promised to spray, but is down with a terrible flu, so it will be a while.
So sorry your pumpkins are collapsing Bobo! How did the sewing go, all finished?
Spookiesmom, I am a sucker for the Pipes! I am probably one of the least emotional criers you'd ever find, but the sound of the pipes get me every time. I can be a blubbering mess just walking past someone else's wedding or funeral. It must be my Scottish roots:)
Wren, the same four pieces for weeks must have been playing in your head constantly. Although, certainly not the same thing, I used to send Bec into the back yard for her recorder practice. If I heard the same tune a few times, I couldn't shift it from my brain.
My ex (2nd!) was an interviewer, and a radio announcer. He would bring home every new record release and play the first few seconds of each track of every album to acquaint himself. I thought I'd go mad, till we built an office in the garden for him!
ldesim, sorry I didn't answer you yesterday, butt no, I didn't make it to see The Block when I was in Melbourne. It was over the Westgate Bridge from where we stayed. I think we were both so shell shocked by how noisy and busy it was that we just stayed put. I wish you could come to the yard sale!
Take care everyone chat later....M x0 -
Joe is a huge bagpipe fan.. I like them, but not as much as he does.. the flute all on its own would probably drive me up the wall, especially if it was the same songs over and over again.
For about 2 months last year, we had an old man who would park himself on this little side street outside my office. I suppose he did it because it was next to Fanueil Hall, which is a tourist hot spot. From 11 AM to 3 PM, M-F, he would play the sax. I use the term play loosely because he wasn't very good at it.. nor did he get any better during the time period that he played. He only knew about 4 songs, one of which was the theme to Sesame Street. I loved that guy, mainly because he drove everybody on that side of the building crazy, there was so many complaints and threats of bodily injury and it was highly entertaining. What I loved the most was the fact that there were numerous interoffice emails and hours of legal research to see how he could be removed.
M.. omg. the apts on the block went for a crapload of money!!!! 1.5 to 1.8M.. that is insane!!! Can't see spending that kind of money with no yard or water view.
How you feeling today Bobogirl? Sorry about your squishy pumpkins.. lol.0 -
Actually, my town of Dunedin has Scottish roots. Settled by 2 Scots, the name is a combo of Dundee & Edinbourgh. The kids here can start learning the pipes in 6th grade, the middle school band wears Royal Stewart, high school Dress Stewart tartans. The City Band wears Elliot. We have Highland Games every April. I am Stewart, she wears Hunting Stewart.
The pipes have been good to her, she has gone to Scotland 3 times, competed once in the World Games. I'm not a bit proud of her, can you tell? LOL0 -
Ariom, I am with you about blubbering at a funeral with pipes, but as you know that is my nationality, dont think anyone around here has had them at a wedding. Our area was first settled by the Scots and English. The Scandinavians and Germans came later. Never had the desire to learn to play tho, but played the sax and loved it.. idesim.. I probably was as bad as your street guy!! or maybe worse. Also love to play piano, that is my favorite. Oh I remember the recorder and my young sons... terrible sounds
Frost has made my pumpkins a little soft but they should make it until halloween!0 -
ldesim, how funny is that! All the inter office emails and hours of legal time trying to evict an unwanted busker:)
Yep, the real estate prices here, in general, are pretty OTT. I used to live near where the Block was done. It is a lovely area, just a few km from the City, and has a beach. I bought my very first house there in 1978 for $21,000.00 we renovated it and sold it in '82 for $57,000, that was a great price! The area was just beginning to take off and become a trendy inner city enclave. We wanted out because we needed a bigger yard for Bec who was about 31/2. I went back in the late 90's to the auction of my little house, which looked like it had been caught in a time warp. Nothing had changed since I walked away from it about 18 years before, not the paint, the flooring, or indeed the tiny tooth marks in the cedar sliding door to the courtyard, that Bec had left while she was teething! Imagine how amazed I was to see the little house sell for $997,000 at auction, yep that's right! Nearly a Million dollars! If I knew then, what I know now!!!!! Can't complain, I got the next house I wanted, with the money I made from that little house!
It has since been sold again, along with the house next door. They were both demolished and now there is an office block on the land.
ndgirl, I am glad I am not the only one who cries when I hear the pipes:) I never learned an instrument, but wish I had.
Spookiesmom, there is a Dunedin in New Zealand that is very Scottish. I think it is wonderful that the school where you are, wears the Tartan and has such links to the Scottish Heritage. Not surprised you are so proud of your Daughter, that's a great effort.0 -
M, I had to laugh. I feel much less guilty for making DD practice her violin in the basement.
I'm sort of sorry that I didn't let DH get a piano. I took lessons as a child, hating every single second. When my mother died, she said the piano was for me. I spent days making arrangements that did not include me taking possession of that beast. I have trouble listening to piano music, I dislike it so much.
Bobo, Remember DH also plays drums. I carry ear plugs in my purse wherever I go.
We have a celebration here called Trollween. There was an art contest in an artsy part of town a number of years ago. The winner was the Troll. It's tucked under an elevated bridge and holds a Volkswagen bug in it's hand. So on Halloween, they have a ceremony in front of the troll and then a little local parade. DH's group will play afterwards for people to dance.0 -
Oh Wrenn, we had a kid next door who was learning the violin, it was torture. I don't know how they stood it. it was bad enough at our house! I would have been encouraging that kid to find something else to do:)
I love your Trollween! we don't do so much fun stuff like you do over there. I have always found your "celebration gene" is much more pronounced than ours.
I bought trick or treat candy today, all stuff that Colin likes. I am going to try to resist if we don't have any kids around.
I am waiting to meet the two Japanese students who are staying with one of Colin's attendants. She asked if she could bring them over today after they have been fishing. I had to laugh when she told me that she had filled in the forms and agreed to have one exchange student, but her two kids got hold of the paper and changed it to 2. The reality is, the 2 are likely better than 1 because they have very limited English and keep each other company.
I asked what I could give them to eat and drink when they come. Coke and Tim Tams are the favorite snacks! I can't imagine what their parents would think of that.0 -
I believe I see a band forming in our future! No piano, Birdie, if you don't like it! I am laughing at all of this music business.
I'm soldiering on. I'm not officially sick. Have got to get the kids going. I love buskers! I believe if you cannot stand a busker, you should alter YOURSELF so that you now think the busker is making you incredibly happy. Whatever it takes. For me, it doesn't take anything. XX0 -
You can be officially sick on Thursday after trick or treating. You can't fool us Bobo. Can you have a long weekend?
Love the pipes. Not musically inclined. Had a neighbor that played them on Sunday afternoons. Was beautiful.
Waiting to get my port flushed. Have lots of questions for nurse about SEs. Still handing out pink stuff at check-in.
Had rads simulation already. Dr having to rethink as he didn't realize I was so thin on my right side. He just saw me last week! Guess I look thinner laying down with my arm over my head. So no tattoos yet. Rads start on 11/5 and go for 6 weeks. Finish up in time for Christmas break.
Tomorrow road trip to my sister's house. Boy can't wait.0 -
Are you too thin Z? Or does it have to do with the sx? Have you been eating something other than white toast and jelly? And why is DH not driving when you go to your sisters? You can't have peanut butter in the house. Can you eat a nightly bowl of ice cream? Can you drizzle olive oil over everything -- vegetables, baked potato?
Here's my 'long weekend' -- the kids are off Friday for 'teacher planning.' I have to take care of them and work. Teaching at the college and dragging them around. I have co-opted one of my colleagues to meeting me outside of my classroom, picking them up, then taking them to Chipotle for lunch while I teach. This is the day after Halloween. And then I walk out of class, they will be waiting, and we'll continue on for five more hours until DLLP gets home.0 -
I guess the teachers don't want to deal with tired, sugar high children. My sisters kids are out too. DH is working so he'll be at home enjoying the peace and quiet.
Sorry about your long weekend. Maybe you need to dig out those play animals from Michaels so they will entertain themselves while you supervise from the couch. New books? Puzzles? Halloween craft on clearance?
Yes thin from sx but also lost some weight during chemo. Am petite anyway. Can't stand the smell of PB. Have been eating ice cream.0 -
I am grinning at all this musical talk. We can be busking B!@tches? I don' t have a musical bone in my body... I'd probably sound bad even singing in the shower.... would probably break the mirrors.
Zills, I don't like you driving by yourself all that way... what pink piece of crap did they give you now? Are you still getting tattoed today?
M, i am still in shock over price of those things... imagine if you had held on to that little house? That's just amazing.
Bobogirl, will you slow the hell down please?
Poor Wren, still traumatized by the piano to this day lol. I am sort of that way with the violin.. my mother had grand ideas of my playing violin.. I think I tortured her for about a month before it was taken away.
Ndgirl, the recorder is the worst instrument known to man... why it hasn't been banned by now is beyond me.
Spookiesmom, I am impressed, you should be proud!! Good for her!0 -
Does anybody use Pinterest? It HAS to be the most addicting website in the world.0 -
Idesim.. so yes I do pintrest... it is addicting! I pin lots of things, recipes, ideas, yoga excercises,, you name it.. but really dont use alot of the things I pin.. now does that make any sense?? but sure if fun to see all the great ideas. A few of the recipes I have tried arent always as good as they look and sound!0 -
Hi girls!
Had a lovely time with the Japanese kids last night. They were going fishing, but filled up on Tim Tams and Coke before they went.
Zills, wondering if you have to go far for Rads? Is there a facility near you? Glad to hear it will be over by Christmas for you!
Are you feeling confident about that drive? I worry too...XXXXX
Bobo, I second the "Please slow down!" gosh, I don't know how you do it all!
ldesim, I know those prices are amazing, but not unusual here.
I have never Pinterst, don't get me started on something else now! LOL
I agree with the banning of the Recorder, Bec tortured out a tune, but I eventually took it away from her because I couldn't do that to the neighbors!
Going into town today...catch you later..M x0 -
I think I've tried 1 recipe from it.. which did turn out good.. a pork loin. Other than that, I just go on pin frenzies and never look at them again! It's so bad lol.
Pasta with eggplant and salad on the coffee table tonight.0 -
Love all the talk about music. Love the bagpipes and they always bring a tear to my eyes too. Both of my parents were very musical, my dad played in the Army band during WWII and in a band after that, my mom played piano, violin, & xylophone. She even played once with Liberace in his very early days. My grandfather on my dad's side started the whole music program and band at the local high school in WI. My DD played piano and DS played violin and drums as kids, they both play guitar now. It totally skipped my generation. I can't carry a tune to save my life and play no musical instruments despite working on the clarinet in elementary an jr high. I love music, but can't make any of my own!!
Don't do much for Halloween here. I have 2 Casper the Ghost cupboard knob hangers I put out and some hot pads and kitchen towels, that's it. I'm pretty remote and kids don't Trick or Treat here, so no need to buy candy (that I couldn't eat anyway) or carve a pumpkin. No one drives by my house except the neighbor that lives about a mile down at the end of the dirt road.
I've looked at Pinterest a couple of times but really don't want to get sucked into it. I have enough trouble getting work done on my ebay store without another time sucking site. It does look intriguing, but I am forcing myself to stay away!
Glad you are feeling better bobo. I too would love to see the mouse costume!
Zills, I do worry about your drive. Be very careful if you end up doing it alone. Glad to hear you will be all done with the rads before Christmas!
Spookiesmom, you have every right to be proud of your DD!! )
Wren, I love the Trollween celebration!! Makes Halloween into something for the adults too.
Going to post this before it tries to go bye bye and start a new one about my day today.
Hugs!0 -
I have been suffering with Fall allergies lately and the last few days have also been raking leaves like a crazy woman in my yard. We had been predicted to have snow Monday and I wanted to move as many of the leave as I could before they got wet from the snow. Well, the snow never materialized but it is really cold at night...under 20°F.
So with the allergies and being worn out from raking, I had planned a quiet day at home Tuesday and maybe work on my ebay store some. I slept in some and was just eating my breakfast when the fitter called and said my things were in. Tuesday was her last day there and I just didn't want to start with someone new who from what I can figure out really didn't care about the mastectomy part of the business, so I got myself ready to go up to town and took off.
Well, I can't say I was surprised.......not one of the bras fit!! They were all too big, both band and cup size!! I was totally frustrated and really pissed at this woman, though I bit my tongue and asked what else did she have on hand? Well, surprise surprise, when she started pulling out things that turned out to be my size she had several things on hand!! I had ordered 2 Amoena Marlena 2167 and 2 Amoena Isabel 2118 bras both were too big, am returning those. She had a Marlena in my correct size which I took and also got a Monique 2166 and 2 Annabell's 2126 that I really like. All were in stock and were there the first time I came...... (banging head against wall). I reordered the 2 Isabel 2118 in the correct size. (I really liked the Isabel!!) I reordered it in white and black. It will be nice peeking out of lower neckline tops and button up shirts.
What should have been a quick try on and out the door turned into another 2+ hours trying on all sorts of things! I was tired and not 100% to begin with and this just wiped me out....when will I get my energy back???? At least I walked out the door with 2 sets of forms (contact and silicon) and 4 bras with 2 more on order. I am happy with what I have and have worn 2 of them for several hours since I got home just to try them. Both are comfy so far. I've been flat for 11 weeks and it feels odd now to have boobs again....but maybe in the winter they will be extra insulation from the cold!!
I did get a couple names of shops in Spokane from the fitter. Not sure I want to deal with this shop in the future. Not that with 6 bras I am going to need any more any time soon! I am kind of liking going flat most of the time actually.
Hah, I had thought I was going to get through the month without anyone giving me anything pink. Yesterday in the mail my DD sent me a pink t shirt from the Fire Dpt in her town sponsoring research and a tan t with the pink ribbon (which didn't really look pink on the tan fabric) and "Survivor" on it. Bless her heart she is just so relieved things have gone so well for me, she just doesn't realize this isn't something I want to advertise on a t shirt
I don't know if I mentioned it before, but at the beginning of the month I washed my cell phone with the laundry, it was in the pocket of my sweater and went unnoticed. I spent 2 hours standing in line the next day, a Saturday, to get it replaced. (The cell is my only phone, no landline here.) They couldn't pull out anything from it, being technically challenged, I hadn't saved my contacts to the sim, just memory and the photos....well, just kiss them good bye! They told me to take out the battery and sim card and put everything in rice for a week and if the phone would power up just maybe they could get the contacts from memory, but didn't have a lot of hope. After that it did power up, but I never got to a home screen, so didn't have much hope.
Since I thought I was making just a quick trip to town, I brought the dead phone. Even though it wasn't a "quick" trip, but because I went right by the ATT&T store on the way home, I stopped and lo and behold they did some magic button pushing and were able to transfer the contacts from memory to the sim and then were able to transfer them to the new phone! I was really happy because some of the numbers I just didn't know if I could find again. Unfortunately since I don't have the proper cable to plug into my computer to try some more of their "magic" ways that they emailed me (and the phone is so old I don't think it can be found) the photos are lost. I had sent most on to my computer so that wasn't as big an issue as the contacts.
My new phone now has a memory card for the photos which I will save to my mac periodically and I save contacts to the sim card and the AT&T Address Book. I think I am covered now!!
I dragged myself home and after resting and trying everything on again, had some Shiratake Tofu noodles with chicken and veggies seasoned with Italian spices and topped with Parmesan and Asiago cheeses for dinner and will try to get to bed early.0
