We very recently adopted Jackie into our family and she wiggled her way into our hearts within minutes. My PBMX with recon is scheduled for May 13...I have no doubt she will be a wonderful comfort during my recovery as she is a total cuddlemonster who just loves playing, snuggling, and being with her "person(s)" My husband was home sick yesterday and she spent the entire day loving all over him.

    image

Here is how she usually looks cuddled up with me on my recliner (where come May I will be spending a lot of time!) Who could not feel better looking at this blissful face!

    image

We were recently her "comfort people" during her own recovery from spay surgery. She hated wearing a collar and would worm out of it but soon made the best of it when she realized it made for a great neck pillow while she sprawled across my lap! I hope to have as good of an attitude after my surgery as she did.

Cuddlemonster kitty!  She is gorgeous and so sweet-looking.  We have one like that here.  She is determined to cuddle whether you like it or not!  And, DiveCat, if you fall asleep in front of my kitty, she 'washes' your hair when you are sleeping! Woke up this morning with a new hairdo.  xx

Colin, dog on prozac, had to see the vet while he was at the groomers today.  The vet staff muzzled him and had him in full panic mode shaking.  The groomer took him back, took off his muzzle and got him on the grooming and calmed down.  The vet and her staff examined him, gave him his shots, and took blood without any issue.  I am so thankful for Diane (groomer).  Colin came home and has not left my side!

Actually since chemo he is at my side (except if there is food)!

Colin!  I love you!  I would have reacted the same way, Colin!

    Keep up the good work, Colin!  Good boy!  No one likes to be muzzled.  {{{{{Colin}}}}}

Thank you. He is a complete sweetheart!! He's very gentle and is a great comfort dog. We had him DNA tested and he is a great mix of different breads.

Everyone with a pet will appreciate the challenge of getting my two babies to perform synchronized chair sitting for this photo.  My old guy on the left has seen me through a couple of serious illnesses.  There was a time when he was truly the only comfort in my life.  My girl on the right is a rescue (yes, she rescued me).  I've enjoyed the time I've had at home with them.  BC really sucks but it has forced me to slow down and I am able to spend many of my days and nights with both of them by my side...or on my lap...or on my stomach...or sitting on my head.  Do they know what is going on?  They know we've been sad.  But when we cuddle together in a big puppy ball I feel at peace.  I cannot imagine my life without dogs.

Warrior, what a great picture. I'm impressed that they both stayed still. My Rat Terrier would never stand still for a picture like that. My floppy eared one would though.

Bobo -  I had my reconstruction in March 2013 and in April the Left radiated side opened back up  POP  so it was a redo and then it was sooooooooooo tight at nipple time they could not make them because it was to tight. I felt terrible and to me they looked terrible so in November I had them removed.  I was the first person to ask for a removal. I am not really flat but it is so much more comfortable than before. I'm not sure how women tolerate them. I will deal with the ugly war wounds that are left but I feel so much better. I love all the pictures I have 3 large girls (dogs) and will try to get them together in one shot so I can post it.  Hope you feel much better once all is removed.  Flatsy

Bobogirl - Boy, am I glad to see you.  We were all worried about you when we didn't hear back on the surgeries thread.  I hope you're well.

SDB - Thanks for appreciating my advanced dog photography skills.  That photo took a good half hour of holding treats in the air to keep them faced forward.  Did you use Wisdom Panel for the DNA testing?  That is what we used because every week our rescue looked like something different.  When we adopted her as a puppy we were told she was a Brittany.  The vet said no chance and he guessed Beagle.  Turns out she is Pointer, German Short Hair Pointer, Harrier and get this - Saint Bernard.  She has the Saint Bernard drool when she gets nervous.  She is a great dog and runs trails with me.  She even ran a half marathon with me.  Well, I run and she skips along.  On Facebook, Wisdom Panel has a page called Doggie DNA and they post photos of dogs and allow you to guess the breed mix.  Not once have I guessed correctly.  Your dog is a tough call.  Do I see fox terrier, Duck-Trolling Retriever, or any type of retriever?

Thank you for sharing the pictures!  I can appreciate trying to get 2 dogs to sit at one time long enough to get a picture!  When my grandson turned 1 we took him and the 1 year old puppy for pictures together….I remember sitting on the floor of the studio just watching the chaos!  Puppy (who was fully potty trained) got nervous and peed.  My grandson refused to sit next to the dog and wanted to sit in the waiting area.  Those are the times I am thankful to be the Nana!

Many thanks for this report, Flatsy, and for the kind words!  I especially liked the sound effects in your story (POP!).  I could picture the whole thing perfectly, since I had a similar pop myself.

Warrior Woman -- apologies for not getting on the December thread, and now I can't find it at all in Active Topics!  I had nothing but bad news to report, which continued to more bad news, which I felt would have scared everyone, so I kept quiet about it on the surgeries thread.  Our poor sisters waiting for sx have enough trouble as it is.

Almost died twice, then got hospital flu that killed twelve people; now having one more sx March 5th.  And then I hope to be done with sx.

Love this doggy thread.  It's really cheering me up. How are you doing?  How are the TEs?  XX

Bobo - Holy Smokes!  I assumed you were not well but I'm glad to see you posting now.  Quite a few women had major complications.  I am glad I wasn't aware of all the possible problems before surgery.  My exchange is scheduled in April after chemo.  TEs are as big as they're going to get.  They'd be bigger if my DH had his way but they're mine and this is it.  I can barely get comfortable in bed.  Here is the thread if you want it:

    http://community.breastcancer.org/forum/91/topic/813698?page=34#idx_1014

The good news is that my anxieties are subsiding and I am not scouring the internet for more scary research so I'm able to now enjoy this thread.  I just love dogs...and cats...and goats....and...

Mapgirl - I cannot imagine trying to add a small child to the photo scene.  I'll leave that one for the highly paid professionals.  LOL  Did the photo of your grandson and the dog ever get taken?  I bet that's a keeper!

bobogirl, so sorry to hear about your complications. I'm glad you're doing better now.

Warrior, yes we did use the Wisdom Panel testing. His major breads are Jack Russell Terrier and Pug. His secondary breeds are Australian Shepherd, Alaskan Malamute and Rottweiler. Never would have guessed those on my own. When we adopted him we were told he was a Chow/Shepherd mix. He sure is a sweetheart though. He adores kids of all ages. He even lets the little ones take him for a walk.

This is a great thread - thanks sciencegal for starting it!

SWB - Once again, I guessed incorrectly.  Alaskan Malamute?  I bet that came as a big surprise!  Mixed breed rescues are the best.  I expect they're all I will ever adopt again in the future.

bobo, you can buy the kits at Petsmart. Just swab the inside of the dogs cheek and send it in.

It's been a few years since we did it. I seem to recall it was around $80. They email the results and that took about three weeks. I had some questions about the test, so they had a tech call me. They ended up retesting and went into great detail about his secondary breeds. They also emailed those results. It's pretty interesting. They spent quite a bit of time with me on the phone.

Warrior Woman- a few pictures turned out thankfully!

I always wanted a rotweiler - big teddy bear!  When I was married we adopted 2 rescued huskies from a husky rescue.  Then boyfriend and I have adopted mixed dogs since we bought the house.  Boyfriend is allergic to rots, golden ret, and short haired dogs.  I would not have traded any of the dogs!  The next time I adopt from the senior dogs!

We lost our Daisy girl a week ago very unexpectedly. We had her teeth cleaned and she must have had some underlying condition as 4 days later she started going downhill fast. I definitely was not prepared for this. She was my girl. She would have been 14 yrs on May 27. That is her as a baby in my avatar pic. Anyway I want the universe to know she was the sweetest baby girl there ever was. I miss her so much. I am glad the end came quickly. She will always be in my heart. We had her since she was eight weeks old. She was never hungry, cold, or without love.  Thank you for listening.
