Just checking in. Cindy I am so sorry to hear of your loss! I can't imagine all you have been through.

As for me all is well just been really busy. Went back to work but did radiation for 33 days soon after I started back to work. All during that searching for a new home. Finally found one and we closed on it a couple weeks ago. I refuse to pay too much to movers so are doing most ourselves. It's our 1st home so super excited. Don't have to be out of the rental until end of April. To think I have only been back stateside 1 year

Oh, Cindy, I'm so sorry you are heartbroken over the death of your dear husband. I offer you my prayers and the advice and thoughtfulness that everyone else here offers you. Not enough, never enough, but you have taught us through your voice on this thread what one of my favorite authors, Anne Lamott says : "if you can lean against others, none of you will blow away. You keep each other from falling or help each other get back up. Someone holds out a hand, or even scared old you may hold out a hand, and a person in need reaches for it and hangs on." We are all offering our hands to you and we are here whenever and however you need us.

Be kind to yourself. Love, Linda

Know that he is with you in spirit now and always until you meet again. Know that we are here for you if and when you need us.

Vicki, so glad for you. I know you will have a great time. I hope Chaos gets to go also. I will never forget my weekend. You will make some wonderful friends. Go with an open mind and the more you share the more you will get back in return. You will be treated like a princess. Maybe we will meet someday at one of the annual reunions if not sooner. Congrats again.

Vicki - yeah you finally got selected - well deserved. Thinking of you today as you go for all your follow ups and praying for nothing but good news. You have been there for me and so many others so wanted to be sure you leave this morning with a I too have my first follow up appt today at 10:30 - hoping drains come out but I don't think so. Doing good - it is crazy to think of having this type of surgery and yet there is little to no pain - thankful for that cause me all know that a lot of the pain is inside and in our heads. It took about 4 days but I was finally able to look at myself. It will certainly be an adjustment - but as my sis in law keeps reminding me - "surgery is a miracle". She will be leaving tomorrow and I will miss her greatly. She brought me a lot of strength and comfort. I pray she will never have to go thru this herself but her level of understanding and empathy has been amazing. As have all of you! Thinking of everyone and sending out a hug. Can

home from dr appt. First day in real clothes and first outing since my surgery last week. Drains in for one more week....I was hopeful but never really expected she would take them today. Pathology report showed atypical ductal and lobular hyperplasia in my right breast so I (and doctor) was happy I decided on the double mastectomy....she was very pleased with how well I was doing and even said "I looked great" - I told her it is remarkable what a little blush and a wig can do! Took a walk in the neighborhood to enjoy this beautiful sunny day and loved seeing the bluebonnets on our way south to cedar park - yeah for spring - it is a time of rebirth and renewal and I am hoping it brings nothing but good health, good healing and recovery for all. Hugs, Candy

Cindy - so nice to hear from you.  You inspire me!  With all the goings on in your life and you have cheerful words of encouragement for us.  Amazing!  Bless you!

Candy - great to hear about your appointment!  Sorry you still have drains for another week, but that doesn't surprise me. I am not surprised the pathology report solidified your decision.  This cancer can be sneaky stuff!!  Isn't it wonderful going outside for the first time, post surgery.  You start to feel human again!  You sound amazing!

Jbdayton - Nice to "see" you!  Are you close enough for a meet up in the next month or so?  Can't wait for CFR - will post pictures!

Kelsey - nice to hear things are going well.

Linda - Your words to Cindy were beautiful, they touched my heart.  Hope to meet you soon.

Chaos - Any word?  Cindy said last year that one lady got the go ahead literally the night before.

Cindy K, cling, jlow51 - would you be interested in hooking up with the TX Hill Country ladies in late April or May for brunch somewhere?  Let me know...we need to start planning, plotting, and scouting out a place!

Holli - come out, come out, wherever you are!  Still in the hospital (I so hope not!!)?  How are you feeling?  Sending prayers to you and your family!

Who's in for a meet-up in the next few weeks?

Okay - results from Dr. visits:

    1.  Plastic Surgeon - I asked him how I would know if there was a problem.  Answer - if the girls start looking wonky and/or if I start feeling hard spots.  However, odds are, the girls will be good to go until I'm 80...or longer.

    2.  Endo - bone scan is on April 8th.  Dang.  Nothing new to report here, except I think its time to give her up.  She orders unnecessary tests and I think she is getting ready to overstep her bounds.  My thyroid cancer has officially been cured for several years.  Her current role is to monitor my meds.  I am talking to my primary doc to see if he can take over that chore.

    3. Ob/Gyn - should have pap results in the next week or so.  No reason to expect there is a problem.  What to watch for?  Break through bleeding (uterine cancer).  Ovarian cancer is rare and systems (bloating, abdominal pain) can be misdiagnosed.

    4.  Oncologist - NED!  Yay!  All looks good.  No mammos required for me in the future unless I want one for my peace of mind .... that will be a "no".  We discussed BC in general, doctor's disillusion in practicing medicine (slow to receive reimbursements, reimbursements cut a lot, tons of rules and regulations) and the alarming rate of doctor's "retiring" early.  We also discussed the various trials going on and actually looking for a cure.  I am told there are trials for treatments that are specific to the patient and not near as toxic as chemo.

Pray for the researchers.  Too many ladies being diagnosed with this wretched disease!

Cindy- I've lost a week from being in the hospital. I have thought of you daily after hearing of your husbands passing. My heart breaks for you. I'm so sorry. I loved your last post about the number 7. Very comforting.

I think I'm finally coming out of my fog. Was released from the hospital on the 23rd. Had an ECHO of mg heart done (normal) and saw pulminologist. Waiting to get a sleep study set up. As of now Im sleeping at home on 2 liters of oxygen.

I only have 8 class days left. I think I took on too much this semester with the kids homeschool and my school and my exercise and trying to eat healthier.

Exercise and eating healthy should be a given but it is a job in and of itself!!

I think what happened was I got sick in February with pnuemonia. The doc gave me a shot of antibiotic but nothing else. I just kept on pushing myself and never got over it. I'm trying to function at or above what I was BC. But I haven't given myself enough time to recoup.

Then I think the over doing it plus the stress with my parents (got into an argument with my mom and her lack of help) just killed my immune system. So then I ended up with severe bronchitis and my admitting diagnosis was acute respiratory failure!! I spent 2 days in ICU. A week total in the hospital. Now back on these blasted steroids... :0(

Cindy, good to hear from you. I know you're glad that you have a date now.

Vicki, great news!!! I've always wondered about follow up on recons. I have seen on other threads that they do MRI's every other year or something...maybe they aren't effective on ILC. A friend of mine was DX'd with thyroid cancer, then BC later also...weird.

Holli, hang in there! You do have a lot on your plate. Sometimes it's hard to pace ourselves.

Candy, good to hear that you are healing and feeling better!

My 81 YO Mom said she got her BRCA testing done recently and she is negative also. But, there was another genetic factor they found. I don't think she understood it, but I asked her to send me the results so I could share with my MO. She was DX'd with BC at 60.

I hope you can get out and enjoy this wonderful weather ladies.

    Hello! Hello!

Sorry I have been off the boards lately. Been working more overtime, to pay for a few concerts coming up, and for my personal trainer. Also - driving all the way to Lakeway daily for the gym. I haven't had a commute in 5 years. 620 all the way down is a nightmare, and the growth is just - gross.

Anyhow- Taking my BFF to see Beck and Willie Nelson in KC MO in May. We've not taken a road trip like this in 20+ years, so I hope we don't kill each other. Also taking my DBF to see The Who. I've always loved them, and got ridiculously priced tickets. Also been trying to get out and see my friends and family more often. To heck with housework! Life is too dang short to spend all day cleaning.

If anyone wants to join me, my flamenco instructor and her dance troupe are having another performance. I am going to the April 19th, 2pm show. http://www.alanteflamenco.com/tickets/ I promise you will not be disappointed!

Also going to Bodyworlds tomorrow. I have been waiting forever to see it.

Welcome to CalicoCat, Cling, CindyK, jbdayton thank you for joining us!

Good to see you jlow! Hoping your husband is feeling good, and fighting hard.

Cindy- still thinking of you and your family. <3 Good to hear you are able to lay him to rest sooner than later.

Vicky- You are indeed brave- don't think you aren't! yay you got into CFR! hooray for NED as well! yes to a meetup in a month or 2.

Terri- yay for clear mamo!! and new grandbaby is beautiful! They are finding so many new genetic links to BC now, it will be interesting to see what your mom's results were.

Holli- Thanks for your input on AI+OS, I am def. leaning towards it. I've had pretty bad LE, wraps and all. If you can get one, get a pump. Total PITA, but very helpful! I also have permanent petechiae from chemo all over my body. My MO and Dermatologist are saying they see it more often. Maybe the makeup of the chemicals in chemo (fillers, carriers, etc) or something else. They don't know. Glad you are home and are getting oxygen. Just do what you can, and be good to yourself.

Linda- hope the SEs of chemo are easing up for you. how are rads going?

Choas- have you tried L-glutamine for your neuropathy?

Candy- So glad surgery went well and that you are healing nicely. You will feel a million times better once those drains are out, but be patient with your body.

shewolf- glad to see you! congrats on your home! remember to rest during your move, it is so stressful even when you are 100%.

Hope everyone is doing okay tonight. See you all soon.

    Hi all,

You ladies sure have been quiet lately! Anyone watching the PBS documentary "Cancer:The Emperor of all Maladies"? Airs tonight from 8-10. I ordered the book the other day. Interesting stuff.

I hope you all have a blessed and joyous Easter, for those who celebrate.

Ok... Going back to gym tomorrow after a 3 week hiatus due to hospital stay. Really nervous and kind of dreading it. A little depressed too since I know I've probably lost some strength and stamina. Still short of breath... But I've got to start back. My physical and mental health kind of depends on it.

Had a sleep study done. Waiting on results. Will post my blog post about it.

Hope everyone had an awesome Easter!

    The "NO" sleep study

posted by Holli on Friday, April 3, 2015

So how do you observe the sleep habits of the human being? Well the answer to that on paper is a sleep study. However, I think it should be renamed the "NO" sleep study.

You are essentially hooked up to about 1 million wires. Okay so maybe I exaggerated. You're hooked up to about 1000. But seriously, I had wires attached to my scalp, my legs, my chest, and bands around my waist and chest, and a tube in my nose that went over my top lip. Then they say good night and sleep well. Seriously? You expect me to sleep attached to all that apparatus?

Then… Comes the best part. Once you finally fall asleep, the tech comes in and wakes you up at 5:30 AM. "Time to go home".

    Wait...what? I just fell asleep!!

So I don't know what is going to come of the study. I don't know if I have to go back to do a second one? The tech said I only had one short REM cycle and that was towards the end of the night. She then said my O2 Sats stayed above 90 most of the time. Well yeah, I was awake most of the time.

So my pulminologist is aware that I did the study and my primary care doctor is aware. Now I wait to see what the data says about my sleep habits.

All I can envision is Anna from Frozen (hey, all I've watched for the past 10 years has been animated) when she wakes up on the morning of her sister's coronation! image

Today, I did another Chinese massage...so zen...then went to see LE specialist...moving hubby caused cording and flare up...so compressions and massage back on.

I'm going to read back...so I apologize for missing anyone

Vic - are you packed! Too much fun...tell the ladies hello for me...Karen is fun, Pat was my guide!

Chaos - praying you get that call

    Terri - baby pics!

Jen - you are a dear sweetie! Love the concerts coming up:)

Candy - how are you feeling...pressing forward!

Linda - I'm still leaning! How are you feeling?

Kelsey - enjoying the Hill Country blue bonnets! Hope you are doing well:)

    Vicki, when is CFR?

How is everyone else doing? Candy, Linda, Kelsey, jlow, jen, chaos, Holli...I'm sure I missed some of you.

BCRC's Art Bra event is June 6th. They're looking for volunteers. I have a wedding to go to that day, so probably can't make it...

Sun City's garage sale is the 18th; moved from the 11th...

May sounds good to me, for a get together. Who's in? How does the 17th sound?

    Have a great week-end, ladies!
