LOLOL Eve!  You win!  Although they did take out my gall bladder during that surgery too, so we are almost twins!  I actually kinda like my liver scar.  I'm told it makes me look tough.  My surgeon hadn't planned to go in open, so he felt bad and closed with a plastic surgery close, so it is flat and narrow.  If I'm honest, the only thing holding me back from baring my belly is the extra weight I'm packing now, so just as soon as I can, I'm going to do something about it. :)

A few weeks ago, I went though my summer things and pulled out all my swim suits, so they are all waiting to be tried on when my foobs come out of the bandages.  I may have some work to do before I will wear them outside the house, but I can hardly wait to see what I'm working with. :)

I just got back from a really long walk.  It's 80 degrees out there, so I had to stand in front of a fan when I got back.  I'm not at all sure sweating is a good thing when you can't shower above the waist...but oh well, it felt good, and since I can't drive...

Laurie - I never get real hugs  from anyone any more, but I plan to change that, just as soon as I heal up, since I am considerably squishier now. :)

    Diane.

I often went topless when I went south....but I think people might throw money at me thinking I'm a carnival sideshow with no nips!  Haha...so I'll keep my top on now!  :(

Diane...That big open liver scar thing...I was in hospital for a week....again I was 19...do you ladies believe.......get this...get this.......

I smoked at the time......k.   .I had a gazzilion stitches and a huge drain......I dropped my pack of cigs.....wait...I am in HOSPITAL...and I dropped my cigs.....I actually buzzed the nurse to pick up my pack...so I could have a smoke in my hospital room....DO YOU FREAKING BELIEVE IT???

OMG have things changed or what? I don't smoke anymore (still want to though)

AND 3 weeks after that surgery I was on the back of my brothers bike headed to Bike week at Daytona....my mom had a fit....but she wrapped my abdomen in a huge Ace bandage for support....rock and roll!

    Al right

I am going to order a Marylin Monroe retro bathing suit. and maybe a diamond tiara 'cause diamonds are a girls best friend.

Laurie - I'm not counting you out, since you are braver than I am for sure!  Even with your scars, you have to look better than most of the people out there baring their parts.

All I can say is WOW!  How far we have all come since January.  Think about how much stronger we will all be when we are completely through reconstruction and treatment.  I'm not leaving this site until we are ALL done with reconstruction, since I know Ann, Michelle, Alexandra and Marissa still have chemo/radiation to get through.

I don't know if I'm ready to cheer for my foobs yet, but I will cheer for all of you ladies!  You ROCK!

hi all, love the swimsuit discussion. I never liked my large flabby real boobies that I had to roll up and tuck in to whatever I was wearing.  I don't care that my hard foobs don't bounce, I am loving them staying in place!  Now if I could get my belly toned back up from all the weight I have gained ....rock hard abs with rock hard foobs, now that is a combination :-). But, y'all are right, we need to love and embrace what we have.  We have earned it.  I did forget for a moment that I still had my expanders in while doing a step aerobic class on Monday.  During the cool down I rolled over on my stomach with the others ...until my foobs stopped me.  I had a private chuckle with myself!

Feeling pretty good today.  Even worked from home for a few hours and went to the high school to watch my daughters soccer game.  A bit queasy on and off through the day and hoping to get some sleep tonight.  Instead of online shopping at 3 am this morning I browsed for wedding favors for my niece's wedding this summer.   If any of you ladies need some research done and don't have time, give me your list and I will look it up at 3 am tonight :-)

    Love to all,

    Ann

You ladies make me smile.  Happy

Radiation makes me tired, but I'm getting there one day at a time.  #7 of 33 today.  Yesterday I had to go to the cancer center twice because I had rads in the morning and then an appt with my oncologist in the afternoon.  Funny how they couldn't just coordinate??  The rads side is very punctual.... I'm in and out in like 20 minutes (including getting undressed/dressed).  The oncology side....not so much.  We waited TWO FREAKING HOURS to see my MO yesterday. And it was just a follow-up, so basically a five minute "How are you doing?  Any problems?" appointment.  Good thing they check my blood pressure at the beginning and not the end!  So frustrating.

I don't even want to think about bathing suits.  My foobs (expanders) don't look too bad, but after rads I'll have to stay out of the sun.  Not sure how to work that since I live in TX and have two kids and a swimming pool in the backyard!  I'll have to swim in a swim shirt or t-shirt I guess.

I definitely don't have a topless-type body, but I admit I am looking very much forward to summer and am hoping I get the chance to feel the sun on my bare chest (which will be a first--I never did that when I had boobs! lol). I would definitely need to be in private, but given the chance, I am going for it!

OMG Eve!  I love your hospital story!  I can totally picture it!  Sooo glad you quit smoking though!

I spent 11 days in the hospital at 44 (my son was  7 weeks old when they found the tumor, but we waited until he was a year old to remove it).  I had been there for 8 days, and had seen 2 lovely room mates come and go and was doing really well when they brought in a lady that was clearly running a fever, kept the AC blasting so it was like Siberia and refused to turn down the TV all the while snoring like a Warthog. After 2 days with her, I was cold and sleep deprived, and my pain/nausea meds rotation got disrupted, causing me to be unable to hold down solid food AGAIN.  I desperately wanted to go home to my baby, and when they told my then DH they couldn't move her or me, I dragged myself out of bed, pulled all my plugs out of wall (feeling very One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest), wheeled my IV down the hall and made a huge scene at the nurses station at 1 a.m., demanding they call my surgeon and get me discharged NOW! Magically, I was moved to a private room and after a full night's sleep, I got to go home.  I felt bad, because I was sure my new roommate had heard me crying on the phone to my husband, so I walked with the nurse to our room and gave her my largest arrangement of flowers (she didn't have any) and wished her well.  I swear, I've been a model patient since, but I never went back to that hospital  :)

Ann - you are so awesome!  I'm hoping you get to sleep tonight!

Michelle - So good to hear from you!  Yay for #7, but I do want to smack your MO.  UV shirts?  Maybe Ann can find you some online. :)

Woohoo Paula!  I think that sounds fantastic!

Wow. You girls are all my heroes! Foobs or no foobs.

All I can say is, if Aunt Paula is going topless, then hells bells, count me in, too :)

My DH used to proudly say to all who'd listen that he has been to every Sturgis Rally since 1974. But he stopped going for various reasons about 5 years ago. So maybe next year, after I'm all "done" who knows - maybe my foobs will make their debut in SD? Hey, life is short! Here I am at Sturgis 2000 - fully clothed, mind you!

Hi everyone.  Infection lingering but off antibiotics for now.  1 small red peeling area is left, swelling and pain less.

Did anyone else do direct to implant?  My rad side is still so tight 8 weeks later.

I know what you mean about hugging people.  I feel like i have bumpers on, cant get close so lots of side hugging.

My old breasts were not too bad but with this foobs no bra.  They are still a.little funny looking to me.

I did the topless thing in Greece 21 years ago and burned the girls!

Yes rads are tiring.  I had 28 sessions and had to drive 2 hours each way.  My MO is pretty good about being on time.

So besides Tamoxifen I have started Metformin 500mg BID to help prevent recurrence.

So Easter weekend.coming up fast and youngest son and husband at hockey tournement so quiet house.

    HellO January sisters,

I need your help/advice once again. I went away for a couple days with my family and  I've noticed some soreness in my left breast/armpit area. I am pretty swollen and sore on this side. It is my cancer side. I had my BMx on jan 29 and I recently was diagnosed w a staph infection on my neck. I was taking an antibiotic and when I finished it I noticed the area was still draining. I went yesterday to the dr and he put me back on antibiotic for another 10 days... Now this swelling. Not sure if it's related and I don't see my ps until April 22 because she's on vacation. I'm not scheduled to see my bs until may 8. I have a tendency to panic.... Should I be concerned or chalk it up to I've been doing more around the house to prepare for this trip (vacuuming, carrying laundry baskets etc etc etc) any advice is appreciated. I am not planning to be back home until Friday and my ps is away until Monday. She told me to contact bs if I had any issues.. Just to clarify... The swelling is at the top of the te over to the armpit....

    hey linda

glad you are off the antibiotics...just a suggestion...but I am taking a bunch of pro biotics...to counter the effects of all the (5) antibiotics I took  during surgery. and before for bronchitis....

I would love to get on the trial for metformin...

I have read so much about trials and metformin seems to be the way to go.

Funny about hugging people....it wasn't until two years ago...maybe...that I noticed my foobs again.  meaning after they settled in a few months after I had them done...I never "felt" them during a hug for 20 + years. It wasn't until the "change" that the cancer made that I started feeling them or at least the right side one again.

Trust me ...the foobs will settle in and you won't notice them.  and neither will anyone else.

    enjoy your quite house...

    love

    Eve

I am not on a trial for Metformin.  My GP ordered it no problem so it would be covered by Medical. Cost 3.87 for 3 months

Beverly - I can't remember if you had lymph nodes removed on the BC side, but I think I would just call your BS and tell her what is going on, especially if you had a node(s) removed.  It's possible it's nothing, but it won't hurt to ask.

Let us know how you are.  :)

    Diane.

If you are concerned it's worth the piece of mind to have it checked.

Beverly - yes, definitely call and talk to a nurse or someone who can try to get you in to see someone. I never hesitate to call my team if I have a question. That's what they're there for. Hope it checks out okay. Take care!

Beverly, hope you are feeling a bit better.

I still have pain...it is where the drains were placed...all around the side of my foobs.  I especially feel it when I 've been lifting stuff.

hopefully you just over did it.  My BS said its normal...that I am still healing, but like the rest of the ladies, if you are worried have it checked.  and let us know what the doc says.

    feel better

Thanks eve. I'm going to call my doctor tomorrow once I get home, assuming it won't be too late. If it gets worse today I'll call today, but I won't be able to be seen as we surprised our kids with a short vacation to Foxwoods casino and mystic aquarium.

Bev - I say take you antibiotics and some Motrin, and maybe stay away from too much heat (hot baths/showers) and have fun!  You can always go in tomorrow.

    Mary - that is HILARIOUS!

Mommyathome--i agree with calling your doctor.  good luck with everything.

Linda: that is amazing that your doc prescribed Metformin.  Mine said that they would not because it is not yet FDA approved.  I think that some doctors just think outside of the box more. I am going to reask...

Love the "boob/Foob" comic.  It is sooooooo true!!!!!!   LOL!!!!!

Good Friday Blessings to you all-- :)

    Girlstrong,

metformin is not FDA approved for BC treatment...yet! But I know of quite a few women that do take it, with pcp approval.

If I can ever get a MO to call me and set up an appointment..arrggh! I am going to ask for it.

Oncologist cant prescribe Metformin but GP can, that is how you get around the system.

    linda,

did your GP/PCP  know about metformin? or did you ask for it? did you have to show your GP the literature from the trials...of is he/she just well informed?

by the way, how are you doing?

    Eve
