    From my favorite tea mug:

"Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow.”

This perceptive observation just arrived in a letter to supporters of Point Lobos State Natural Reserve on the California coast, one of my favorite places:

"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world."

John Muir, Naturalist, Preservationist and Founder of the Sierra Club (1838-1914)

"There is more than one way to make sense of life. There is the way (and probably it is the healthier way because it, you know, keeps you healthy and keeps you alive) that some people live and it involves sustaining life and ignoring death and thinking of oblivion as something that they would never bring on themselves. And then there are the people who can only make sense of life by thinking of death, who can only understand that life is pain, so they look for pain and try to push through it, try to make sense out of everything that hurts."

Kristin Iversen on actor Hoffman's death

I feel so blessed for us all, cos I somehow feel most of us do whatever we can to stick in the first group mentioned above & in our case..

"isn't it ironic, don't you think?" Alanis Morrissette

"If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking".

"Lead me, follow me, or get out of the way".

"Courage is fear holding on a minute longer".

"Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory".

(I'm a Patton fan.  My favorite - "The time to take counsel of your fears is before you make an important battle decision.  That's the time to listen to every fear you can imagine!  When you have collected all the facts and fears and make your decision, turn off all your fears and go ahead!")

I find that many of his quotes about battle can be transferred into the war against cancer.

"Experience:  that most brutal of teachers.  But you learn, my God do you learn".  - C.S. Lewis

"You're off to great places!  Today is your day!  Your mountain is waiting, so...get on your way!" - Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You'll Go

And, for those of us waiting for scan results:  "Patience is power.  Patience is not an absence of action;  rather it is 'timing', it waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way". - Fulton J. Sheen

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life. –John Lennon

    LOVE the Lennon quote!

Also, I am officially volunteering to be the "dark chocolate monster"--dark chocolate trumps cookies for me any old day...well, unless the cookies happen to have a bunch of dark chocolate tucked inside. Hmmm...guess I know what I will be baking this weekend.

Overheard in the treatment room at my MO appt. yesterday... an older gentleman was discussing aging issues with his nurse, and this line just summed it all up:

"If you're not getting old, you're dead"

So no more complaining about all of those little age-related aches and pains, wrinkles, gray hair (always better than no hair!).... All of it is still better than the alternative.  My mom's standard birthday comment about being one year older is "It beats the alternative".  That's been a running joke in the family for years, but it seems to have more meaning now.  Laughs and hugs to all of you- TGIF!!!!

...I refuse to be intimidated by reality anymore.

After all, what is reality anyway?

    Nothin' but a collective hunch...

    I made some studies, and

reality is the leading cause of stress amongst

    those in touch with it.

I can take it in small doses, but as a lifestyle

    I found it too confining.
