Joanne, thanks for the information about Windows 7. I've been running Windows XP for years without support so it will probably be okay to run Windows 7 for a while, but I know I'll have to go to Windows 10 before long. It's so frustrating that they keep changing computer things without making them better!
Lisa, nice photo!
Viewfinder, I hope the house packing up and moving goes well! We are looking for a new house too.
April, there are a few devices that scan negatives or slides but the one I got (DigitNow negative film scanner) wasn't very good. Sometimes shops that sell cameras will know where it can be done.

AussieCat, thank you. I have Windows 10 and didn’t like it and downloaded something called ClassicShell which makes it function visually like Windows 7.

April, that's a good idea. I hope I can do that too.

I used a local digital transfer company to convert all my media. They do so much better than the do it yourself gadgets. I made sure they stayed local.

SoCalLisa, I’ll look into that... I have a bunch of old slides that look like they are deteriorating.

Thanks Cathy and View. It was a nice funeral in that I had a chance to see many family members I haven't seen in a long time. My Uncle who died was a towering figure in his family and will be sorely missed. He was 93 years old.
I was able to get in some time with my camera after seeing my Mom. I was looking for the migrating White Pelicans and I found them all flocked together on the edge of the lake probably trying to keep warm. We had a record snowfall on Halloween and even though it was sunny today it was still cold. I may see if I can go back for a short time if there is time to get more photos of the Pelicans. This photo was a mistake in photo editing which I decided to keep and go with a very exaggerated version of the real thing.

Dear Nancy, I'm glad it was a nice funeral although I'm sorry for your loss. May God comfort you all.
Cool photo edit!

We can scan 35mm slides at our library so you may want to check if your local library offers that service.
Here are some scanners on Amazon that let you digitize slides at home.

However, for the highest quality it's probably the best to send the slides to a professional lab, especially if your slides are faded, scratched or have dust spots.
Most camera shops have bitten the dust, but you may have one in your area that digitizes slides.
I did a quick search. I've never used these place but you may want to look into their service. I'm sure there are other places.

Nancy, stunning photo!! How are you doing?
Thanks for asking how I am. I feel overwhelmed after installing Windows 7 on my computer and trying to iron out the problems, which aren't resolved yet. Also, my printer died and we're trying to get a new one working on our computers. I have a lot going on but I'm doing the best I can. A lot of things remind me of my twin sister and I get really sad sometimes.

Thank you Cathy. It is completely understandable and normal for you to be experiencing these feelings of loss and sadness. What I find is that sometimes these annoying distractions like trying to get a new operating system installed on our computers sometimes turns out to be a good distraction. Once you get Windows 7 set up and all of the things ironed out I bet you will like it. It is still my favorite operating system. My desktop is a Windows 8.1 and had a shell (don't quite understand it) that I could use Windows 7 which I do. I use Windows 10 on my newer laptops but I don't like the way it deals with uploading photos. You will want to have a good virus software since Windows 7 updates will soon no longer be supported which helps the security of your computer.
I am still having issues with my lungs which is very discouraging since my primary doctor thought this was probably a one time event. So far that has not been the case. When I get back home I will have to deal with it.
Off to a new church in town. Take care.

Nancy, thanks for your empathy. I have put off installing Windows 7 for a few years and I do have good antivirus software (Avast). It's interesting that Windows 7 is your favourite operating system. How is Windows 10 different in the way it deals with uploading photos?
I'm very sorry to hear that you are still having issues with your lungs. I pray that you are able to get good treatment and it gets sorted out. Please let us know when you find out more. I hope you enjoy the church service. You take care too.

Thank you Lisa and congrats. See you next year is always music to our ears!!!!!
Cathy, when uploading photos on my laptop I have a card slot that I use. I suppose if I used another method it might work better but on Windows 10 my photos barely get started uploading and then they stop and say try again, something went wrong. This happens every single time and it is really, really annoying because I have to be in front of the computer to keep clicking on try again or they will not upload. With Windows 7 they would automatically upload to your default program with NO issues. That is not the case with Windows 10. That is really my biggest issue with Windows 10. I did eventually adapt to the differences. I liked the built in photo editor in Windows 7 which for some easy and quick fixes did the job. Good luck with it.

I use picasa to upload pix on Windows 10. It isn't available to download for Windows 10 unless it comes from another site that all seem to have malware. But I copied the program from my windows 7 to the 10.

Nancy, thank you for explaining why it's hard to get your photos to upload in Windows 10 - it does sound frustrating!! I use a card reader to upload my photos but they don't load automatically. I click on the drive where the photos are and drag them to the right drive to store them. I didn't know that Windows 7 has a built in photo editor. I use ArcSoft PhotoStudio that came with one of my devices and that works fine.
Lisa, I'm sorry that Picasa isn't available for download for Windows 10 but I'm glad you sorted it out. Why do you need a program to load your photos rather than just copying them from the card drive like files are usually copied?

Aussie, just because it's easier.

Aussie-Cat,
I use Picasa on Windows 10. I sent Picasa to bandwoman in a zipped folder. I believe she installed it on her computer so you may want to contact her about the process.
If you're interested please send me your email address by PM. I will send you the link to download the Picasa program from DropBox, with some brief instructions associated with downloading it.
I'm doing a gazillion things related to the sale of my house. Sorry that I haven't been able to participate more.

Thanks Viewfinder. I have no need of Picasa at this time. I find a photo card reader and Windows Explorer to be fine.
I hope your house sale is going well. It's okay for you to not be here much when you're so busy. Please be kind to yourself and get some rest.

I took these photos tonight. This is our towns Healing Field of 2019 American flags to honor our veterans. The lit up structure is our Carillon.
Night time photography has it's special challenges. I did alot of experimenting.
Lisa and her husband are Navy veterans and we honor both of you and thank you for your service.
