Honoring all of our Veterans on this snowy Veteran's Day in Illinois.

I took this with my cellphone. It was really, really cold outside so from the warmth of my car I took this pic. I have never seen this display with snow before.

Thanks Cowgirl. My secret passion for several years is to take horseback riding lessons. I bet you might know something about thatSmile.

You know, taking lessons is a great way to start spending time with a horse. I hope you start taking lessons and I'll cheer you on!

I have bad neck and back problems and am dealing with sciatica now. I have an order for PT which I will probably wait until the New Year as I am gone alot helping my Mom who is 94 with dementia and living in a facility. So with all of that said most people would think I was out of my mind to consider horseback riding lessons but I took up photography after my bc treatments at almost 63 so anything is possible. I don't have any desire to own a horse and that would be pretty impractical living in suburbia but just riding and learning would be fun. There are places near me which offer lessons but not in winter which we have found ourselves in early this year.

Nancy, I'm sorry that you have bad neck and back problems and also sciatica. I have been doing some animal therapy recently - I've only been there twice and have mostly seen the dogs and donkeys but next time I want to meet the horses more closely. Even if you don't feel up to riding sometimes, you could still visit the horses and maybe do some grooming in order to feel close to them. I hope you have a good time with horses and your aches and pains reduce.

Nancy and Aussie-Cat, you know, I just love grooming horses. There have been periods of time when I was not riding (a horse wasn't available) and I just groom them and hand walk them. They do know when you are paying attention and care. I've done this with several horses that some people might call 'broken down' horses but to me they were golden. They were much, much older and it was like they were forgotten. In all my riding I learned the most about horses from my 'broken down' Buck. I would groom him up like a show horse and hand walk him and tell him how wonderful he was. He came into my life just as I was diagnosed with BS. I'll have to attach a picture now!

Horses have the sweetest faces. I've never had one or ridden but we used to save half our lunch apple for a horse we passed on the way to school. He recognized us and came to the fence for his treat.

Awe, such a handsome boy , Cowgirl. That would be fun to work with a horse. It sounds like Buck came into your life for a reason and right when you needed him. I am not sure how I would go about making connections to work with a horse but it sounds interesting. The closest I have been to a horse was a couple of years ago I was visiting a Wildlife Refuge Center open house and they were offering hay rack rides. Here is a pic of the horses.

Cathy, good for you for doing some animal therapy. My 94 yr old Mom lives in a supportive living facility and they brought in some mini horses which are therapy horses. They were so cute and the residents loved them. Animals are such great companions. My cat is my animal therapy. They say pets help to lower your blood pressure and are good for you emotionally. I know that is true for me. I hope your therapy is great medicine for you. I would post a pic of my cat but the one I am thinking of is on my back up drive. I'll post sometime.

I have ridden a horse once and that is a story for another day. That was a very long time ago.

It is late and I have some work to do. Have a good night everyone.

Cowgirl, that was really interesting! What a lovely horse photo!

Nancy, I'm glad your Mom gets to be with horses. I can understand your cat being your animal therapy. I'm very allergic to cats, so unfortunately, I can't stroke them the way I would like to. I would love to see a photo of your cat some time. That's a nice photo of horses. Thanks, you have a good night too!

    Nerdy Great pics.

Is that a bird who lost part of his or her leg in the last one? Or is (s)he just doing the one legged balancing bird thing?

Cute birds Lisa. Nice shots. The bird that is resting on one leg doesn't look like the same kind as the other one. Maybe they are just good friends. LOL

    Cathy,

Beautiful photos. I love the Cockatoos. Are they tame? There is a famous Cockatoo on YouTube. It is called MaxTV and these videos are so funny they have lifted my spirits on some down days in the past.

I hope you trip was good for you and lifted your spirits.

Nancy, thank you. The cockatoos were so tame that they landed on my friend's and aunt's shoulders. They were very interested in our food - it was quite entertaining. It was mostly a nice day. The sun came out and we got some good photos - it's a beautiful place. I'll check out YouTube, thanks.
