Some great shots .Lisa, I have to say a really love that pair above. They so look like they are posing for their family portrait. Perfect!
I guess its getting to that time of the year again. the supermarkets are putting gourds in their flower bouquets!

Lisa, Nancy C and Lizzysmom, pretty flowers and pumpkin. I had never seen plumeria before. Such a striking flower. Love them. Nancy C are you in Sedona yet? I visited a new place today. I was afraid of getting lost on the trails and I am limited in the amount of walking I can do so stayed close to my car. LOL The water was sort of disappointing but got a few shots and then came home and tried more flowers in my yard.

How nice you are able to have a nice place to go when you feel you can get out of the house!!
Nice pix...hibiscus too..
these were just in a stray file I was transferring..

Lovely shots ladies.
BW, I am so glad you were able to get out and about a bit. I love the reflections and the beautiful flowers. I was very envious of everybody who had a hibiscus in their yard until mine grew unexpectedly! Love that gorgeous rose too. My yard is looking a bit sad now, not much color left.
Lisa, what a great find. Its fun to find photos that you have forgotten about or never realized you had. Love the lighthouse and rocky shore. Makes me want to go to the coast. I am not really far where I live but I hate driving so often stay quite close to home unless DH is driving.

Thanks Lisa. Is the first pic your yard? The water and the woods both seem so inviting in your nice pics. I used to always go to the Riverwalk in our town. It has lots of fun photo ops. Now that I have this new camera I want to find birds to shoot other than what I see on our Riverwalk. I am always looking for herons and egrets. I live right next to a river and there is a bike and walking path so I have places to go that aren't too far away. I am building up some walking endurance to go to Starved Rock. Are you familiar with that State Park in Illinois? They have some neat water falls but it has to have recently rained before you actually see any water. I have only seen pics of it so am excited to go. Last year there was major construction which wasn't going to make it very practical for a day trip. My niece was there recently from Iowa. She said they predict 2 million people in October. So maybe I should go in Sept!

Lizzysmom,
I must have missed your post here. Thank you. My hibiscus unfortunately are in pots and way too big to bring in for the winter. That must have been a thrill to see yours come back to life. I have four of them and I don't have any extra space to house any of them inside. My roses are still in full bloom. I have six Knockout rose bushes. I thought they had all died this past winter. I had to cut away all the dead wood and they all came back with new growth. I was thrilled because I know others in this area weren't so fortunate. I do need to start putting away my two fountains before we have our first frost. I love putting them up and hate putting them away. My backyard fountain also converts into a heated birdbath so that is fun.
Well it is getting late. Talk later. Enjoy your weekend.

BW I am back home now. Got in late last night. I was in Sedona Wed. Here are some Sedona pictures for you. Sedona is beautiful!! It looks like God took a paint brush and painted the city.

Nancy C, I think I have lost my mind! Thank you for sending these again. So sorry. They are beautiful the second time around too. LOL Glad you made it home safely and so glad you got to do this trip.

Nancy C. Love the Sedona photos. wonderful colors. It would be nice to get there one day.
Nancy BW, I have never been successful with roses in the rocky soil so grow mainly day lillies. I need to bring my banana plant off the deck and indoors before first frost. Its such a big plant that always looks like its dying and takes up so much space in the living room. Now it has babies in its tub with it! It seems odd to think about bringing plants in soon when its 80 degrees outside.
I was so tired today but I did go for a walk and took a few fall color shots. I had a strap to attach the fuji to my wrist and the camera swung around while my finger was pressing the shutter giving this "Spin Cycle" shot. It was a total accident, one that I would like to be able to repeat.

Lizzy'smom, That's beautiful! It looks like a Monet painting!

Wow! A spin cycle shot. I think you just created a new category. LOL How cool is that! Now to reproduce that again. It does sort of look like Monet. I need to resurrect my old Fuji camera. It was my first digital and I loved that camera.
I got my US results today on the electronic records. It appears that I have some long named lesion (benign) in my kidney and spleen. Is this the reason for my GI distress. I doubt it. Yesterday I felt good all day, all evening and during the night. First time in a very long time I think. I think maybe this may just be fizzling out. I still have this dull pain and today I think I figured that one out too. There is a hip flexor muscle that can be painful way down low. I have had trouble with this in the past and it just dawned on me tonight when I was racking my brain trying to figure this all out. I think that I have had two separate issues going on. I do think most of it has been caused by the cancer drug. I am going to ask my oncologist to hold off on giving the drug a week off because I do think I have improved a lot the last few days. I just hope it continues.
Congratulations on such a unique shot, Lizzysmom!

Nancy BW, excellent to hear that the results are all b9, also that things seem to be settling down. My stomach is playing up less and less although I did go and eat way too much tonight.... Hopefully the SEs will fizzle out as you say without having the MO mess around with the drugs , especially if your body is just starting to get used to the current meds. Hoping you have another good night tonight!
I took the Fuji as I was just going for a walk around the neighborhood to get a little exercise in. I had the strap wrapped around my wrist in case I dropped it (which I have done twice resulting in a dial that is VERY tough to turn to change some settings.) I was holding it really awkwardly in one hand not intending to take a picture but I did and it swung about just as I went and hit the button.
These are a couple of little critters I found in the yard

It looks so peaceful....what a way to start the day! Is the water an inlet or a lake? Thanks for taking us along:) Peg

This is my fish tank that I cleaned up and added some more fish to today. Its a good sign as I have not felt up to doing much with it the last few months and have lost a few fish. Its a 55 gallon so a partial water change involves filling 3 5 gallon buckets and dumping them out without spilling them or pulling a muscle!!
Some residents did not come out for their photo but the angel fish are new replacements and I added a couple more platties and the 2 while mollies as companions for another one who's buddy died. The corycats I have had for a long time. The one at the bottom of the tank by the Greek ruin is an albino.

Izzy, the whirling pic........WOW.0 -
P.S. beautiful tank. Fish are so relaxing to watch.0 -
Lizzysmom,
A beautiful tank and certainly worth all of the effort I'm sure. Those critters above are interesting too. That spider looks scary. LOL The dragon fly looks like a little alien. LOL

Lisa,
Sounds like fun. That will be a Happy Dance day when I won't have to take any AI's so congrats to that lady.

Thank you so much for your comments on my accidental picture ladies. I think I may send it to the photography school where I am taking my course and see what they think. Perhaps I won't tell them it was a huge mistake
I think the tutor I have to submit my official photos to thinks they are boring. I agree. They want such specific things that I found myself taking photos with the course in mind rather than just having fun so things actually suffered I think. The course has pretty much been on hold this year with BC and all and I am actually enjoying just taking pics of things I like again but I want to continue as I would love to have a go at being a pet photographer if I ever graduate and retire completely. I take photos of the neighbors dogs!! I have another 2 years to complete the course and my next assignment involves lighting and I have to go in the basement and set up studio lighting without blowing the electricity then practice taking pics of bread and fruit and fizzy drinks so I can submit some sort of still life using studio lighting. Not exactly inspiring..
This is the sort of thing I was practicing using ambient light. Its weird .My co-workers thought it was scary LOL

I missed some posts as I take so long to type and the machine decided to do maintenance in the middle...
Lisa, What a fund day and wow, congrats to that lady that took her final pill. It seems such a long ways off!!!!
Nancy BW, So pretty. Your neighborhood looks beautiful and so peaceful. I love the reflections. And you were out and about again!!!

Lizzysmom, That is cool that you are taking a photography course. Are you taking one of those online courses or are you actually going to a classroom. I looked into both of those things but my sister and I are caretakers for my mom who lives alone and has dementia. My first year of retirement in 2011 is when a switch turned off in her brain all of a sudden and we knew something wasn't right. Anyway she lives three hours away from me. My sister lives in the same town. I got back and forth so much (about a third of the year) taking any kind of community college course is out. I have looked online where you can establish your own schedule. I was looking into those possibilities at Christmas time and then a good thing I didn't jump in because it was March that I got my bc dx. I know nothing about lighting other than when it doesn't work! I guess that is a learning opportunity right there. My biggest fear would be that it would take all the fun out of it. I had thought about job opportunities but didn't want to pursue that for the same reason. I love animals and I think pet photography would be neat. How long is your course. Will you have a degree or some type of certification when it is all done. No wonder you have the ability to print such large photos. That is neat. Your Mickey picture is neat. I think it is Mickey. What line of work are you in? For some reason I thought you were retired.
Well off to pay some bills. Yeah, really fun time!

Nancy, I am partly retired. I do computer work and was working 4 days a week (2 days from home) plus on call until the end of August but told my boss I could not take the stress of on call anymore and was leaving. I have been with the company for years so he offered me 3 days a week (1 day from home) with no on call and I get to keep my health insurance. I jumped at the chance as DH is old enough for medicare but I am not. We will have to see how it works but this is my first 4 day weekend so I am enjoying the extra time off.
Its so sad that you mom is suffering from dementia. My MIL passed away a few years ago but she was living alone when we noticed things were not right. She became incapable of being on her own very quickly and eventually tried sheltered accommodation but was calling the police in the night thinking people were trying to break in so they insisted her phone be changed to only allow incoming calls. It was very sad and seems to be becoming more and more common.
You have such a lot on your plate but it is definitely worth looking at a course that you can do at home. I did a half day class in Boston but even just going into town for a half day is a lot, getting trains.
The course I am doing is submitted on-line but they send you materials and you can do it at your own pace. Its a bit expensive. I paid $999 but thats thousands less than a course with physical classes would cost. You get up to 3 years to complete it and get a certificate at the end. Its called a course in professional photography run by the New York Institute of Photography. They also have some other courses that I think may be shorter. They send written texts with lots of info and examples and photos, also CDs and DVDs. I find the reading the most useful although its a lot to remember. They send a few bits of equipment too but give lots of info on setting up a basic studio for example without spending a lot. There are a number of modules covering different topics and an open book comprehension test and photo submission for each module that gets critiqued by a tutor you get assigned. For example for the first module I had to do depth of field, speed and a landscape. I submitted a flower shot with shallow DOF, panned an emergency vehicle speeding past and took a landscape with a deep DOF . The tutor actually records a verbal critique that you can listen to. The course had mixed reviews but I got lucky as they updated it and the updated version was literally coming off the press as I signed up at the end of last year. I have completed 2 modules out of 6 so need to get on with the program. There are other benefits that they have that I have not really gotten into but for somebody like me that did not have any in depth technical knowledge other than tips people had given me it has tons of info, a lot more than I can digest!!
I think pet photography would be fun as I would never want to attempt something like weddings, too much responsibility, but with pets I would start small, only charging people for any photos they may want to purchase, not for my time as its a hobby anyway and I love taking photos of animals and birds. I still have an awful long way to go and its still a dream at present but something to aim for. Also DH occasionally does a charity golf tournament. They typically have a photographer that does not charge for time but takes photos that people may choose to buy so there are opportunities out there to make a little money and not have too much stress with it. I also heard that pet photography is a growing area
These are photos I took of somebody's dogs when I was on vacation. I keep meaning to send them to the guy who runs the B & B so he can forward it to them, and one of my Lyzzy too.

Lizzysmom,
Awwwwww the dog pictures are so cute. That is a neat effect with Lizzy. She is so cute. I am so glad you are able to cut down on work and actually enjoy a four day weekend. When I first retired I was quite sad and then ecstatic and sort of a roller coaster ride for a while. Being a band director at two levels in two schools was a lot of pressure because there were always concerts coming. There was never any letdown and the stress of that was pretty intense for me. I don't miss that stress at all but I do miss the kids and the interaction with the staff. I am meeting some teachers for coffee after school tomorrow. These teachers were very supportive when I was going through all my stuff. One of them is a survivor herself.
Your photo class sounds so much like this one I was looking at when I was at my mom's for Christmas last year. It was around $1000 and it had modules where you worked at your own pace. So much has happened in the last six months that I swear I have chemo brain even though I didn't have chemo. LOL Is their radiation brain. I don't know if I bookmarked that website or not and I don't remember the name of it. I have found some really helpful free things online that photographers out of the goodness of their heart post lessons and answer questions. They do ask for donations but still it is lots of work basically for free.
I have several photography books which I haven't absorbed completely. I tried to start learning the last few years of teaching but I had no time except on vacations. I would just think I had a handle on Fstops and all the technical stuff and then I would go for months without having time for it. Then I would forget and start all over. I did that so many times it was getting discouraging. Now that I am retired I have had more concentrated time but with my mom things are just crazy trying to live in two places and basically trying to keep two houses up. My biggest goal was first to learn the ins and outs of my SLR camera. At the rate I am going that could take a life time! Actually these last couple of weeks are the most I have actually gone out and taken pictures day after day. I think I am seeing how much life there is to live and wanting to make the most of every day now. I sort of feel like I am making up for lost time.
Well it is very late so I need to get off of here. I hope your dream to become a pet photographer happens when you are ready. That sounds really like a nice hobby or whatever you want to make of it.
Good night.

Pretty rose pics Lisa. I used to have a rose the color of the second pic. I just love that color. Unfortunately my first experience with roses was not good. The poor thing didn't last but one year. I have lots of roses now. They need lots of sun which I realized didn't happen with my first trials. I have the Knockout roses which are supposed to stand up to anything. So far so good but this last winter was really a harsh one and I had lots of dead wood to cut out this spring. They all came back though.

This is the Pear tree in my garden. It had no Blossoms on the weekend, but this is what I got up to this morning. Spring is here, in Australia!
