Nancy BW, Happy Birthday to you mom. She certainly does not look her age! Sorry there were no pelicans for you. I hope you enjoy your celebration tonight!

I have not done much coursework I am afraid. I do not have much concentration for reading at the moment and I think I will do better in the winter as I need to spend time indoors doing studio lighting and would rather take photos outdoors at the moment. If they let me take pics at the NEADS graduation I would be so excited but I am not expecting it. Just a dream at the moment.

Lisa, that flower is beautiful. Its well and truly fall here now!

Nancy C. Radiation certainly makes you tired. Try and get out for a walk or a bit of exercise. It helps but even now I still need naps and its been a couple of months. It will go over quickly. You just need to take plenty of rest when you need it.

It was exiting today. I felt up to reactivating my National Geographic profile last week and started posting some pics again. You ladies should give it a go as its easy and kind of fun. I got the photo below this morning and was so pleased that this little guy was confident enough to stay at my window as I snapped him. It was the perfect storm. I was in the right spot near the window with my good camera with the right lens on it and the lighting was just right when he appeared and looked my way so I was happy with this shot even if there was a dirty spot on the window.

I also tried out my new wide angle lens for the first time today. Its a completely manual lens, no auto focus but as I wanted to try landscapes I just set it to infinity (kind of) and stopped it down and hoped for the best on most of the shots.  A few times I moved it from infinity by accident. I got a Rokinen 14mm that goes from F2.8 to F22. It was a good price for a 2.8. I could never afford a quality equivalent Sony lens for this camera. I even managed a pic of somebody's dog that was not too bad given that I just set it to F8 (I think)  and pointed it without adjusting the distance as I forgot that its MANUAL!!

I was a bit disappointed with a few of the pics that I posted to NG as they seem to have a limited color gamut on that website that I had not noticed on my old computer. My fall shots were kind of blah so I will have to add some extra tweeking before posting there in future, so it looks closer to the way it does on my camera or in Photoshop. The photos look better on here than NG which is confusing.

Anyway here is my birdie and some of the pics I took this afternoon.

    image

All the pics below were taken with my new lens. you can get the same lens for Canons and Nikons as well as my Sony. I was very impressed with it considering I really did not know how to get it focused just right and it needs practice.

Thanks for the birthday greetings for my mom. I shared those with her and she was pleased. We had a good time going out to dinner and then to my sister's house for desert and presents. My niece had sent my mom a 250 piece jigsaw puzzle of really colorful birds and birdhouses. We worked the puzzle until it was finished. It was a late night but we had fun.

Lizzysmom, Your pics are beautiful. Your bird pic is awesome. I am glad you are enjoying your new lens. I love the dog pics also. All of them are beautiful.  I checked out the NG photos and way out of my class. I feel like I am still in Kindergarten as far as photography is concerned. I am going to post some pics of my cat.

This is my cat Cameo. I call her Cammie. She has to have her blanket so they both travel with me to my mom's. She is a Ragdoll. They are supposed to be laid back and very docile and she is NONE of those things. I tell people for what she lacks in good behavior (sometimes) she makes up for in looks. LOL She follows me around like a dog. She is a good companion. These are pics from when she was a baby to almost the present.

Blessings and Nancy BW thanks for the comments on my pics! Mr. Cardinal was just back but today I have been really tired and slept most of day. Overdid the exercise I think!

Nancy BW, NG can appear intimidating when you first look as there are some fantastic photographers on there but there are lots of pics from regular amateur photographers. Some of your pics would be just fine!!

Cameo looks adorable!! It that a bag of veggies she is sleeping in? I used to have Devon Rex cat called Larry. he was like a dog too, a great little companion!

Lizzysmom, I have fibromyalgia and since there is really not a known cause I try to keep as many toxins out of my body as possible. I don't drink tap water if I can help it. I drink bottled water. Cammie likes to play in my empty water bottle cases. That is what she was doing at the time. She has a bad habit of eating plastic so I have to watch her carefully.

I think I will practice a lot more before  posting to NG but it sounds interesting. Thanks for the encouragement.  I will say that in the short time I have been on BCO and found places to post pics I am much more enthused about sharing pics with other photographers. I used to leave hundreds of pics in my camera before uploading to my computer. Now I can't wait to get them on the computer. So that has been a big step forward in my photography journey.

Nancy, It was funny the way I started posting photos. I may have mentioned this on a thread before but it started when I crashed my car in my driveway during a snowstorm. The driveway is very steep and I was being careful but my car slid off the end and down a 6ft embankment at the back. I was lucky not to hit a tree. I had bought my first "good" camera a couple of months before. Anyway I took some photos, including ones for the insurance. I decided to post one of the back yard with the car almost completely hidden by the embankment and snow to a local TV station but I accidently posted it to the weather channel who used to have a really great and friendly photo site IWW. When I realize what I had done I posted a photo I had on my camera in their fall foliage category that was well received so that gave me the encouragement I needed to keep going and trying to improve. Eventually they messed around with the website and spoiled it and the IWW regulars moved either to Flikr or NG or both but its not the same. IWW was more like a family with all sorts of photos,  from the really bad to the exceptional, and everything in between and everybody encouraging each other (apart from a few naughty people who got removed by the moderators LOL)

    what Is IWW?

Birdlady, NG is National Geographic. They have "YourShot" which is where you can post photos.

Lisa, IWW was I Witness Weather. It was the Weather Channels photo posting social media site until a year or two ago. They changed it so I don't think IwitnessWeather.com still exists but Weather Channel still have a place to post photos.

Lizzysmom, You told me about the IWW but you didn't mention the car accident. How frightening! Did you get hurt during that fall?  I didn't realize IWW was a type of forum either. That's too bad that they changed it. I have looked into Flicker before and wondered what that would be like.

Nancy C. We had a good time for my mom's birthday. I think she was very tired by the time we got home last night. I was too. Then I couldn't get to sleep at all and I think finally fell asleep at around 5 am. I feel like a zombie today. I was quite fatigued during rads and I made a point to walk as much as I possibly could. It did help the fatigue even though many days I dragged myself outside and had my self talk like you CAN do this. You NEED to do this.

You and your sis look so much alike. Your niece is a cutie.

Did you have rads off today being Columbus Day and all? Hopefully these weeks will go quickly for you.

BW no day off today I still had my rads, thanks. there are 12 years between my sister and I. Shes my best friend

Nancy BW, Fortunately I was not hurt, just shaken and did $4000 worth of damage. The insurance wanted to write the car off but they eventually paid up and we got it fixed. It was a medium SUV so don't know how I would have been in a smaller car. I realized how easy it is for somebody to have an accident and not be found if they go off the road. I was only about 10 ft from the garage door yet my car was virtually invisible and the snow quickly covered the tire tracks. Nobody noticed the sound of the crash except the dog next door that apparently barked. It seemed loud to me but I guess the snow muffled that too. When I walked through the front door and told DH that I had just wrecked the car he thought I was joking! When I look back it was actually a good thing as it was the catalyst that started me taking my photography more seriously and it has been so enjoyable. I had always liked taking photos, on vacation mainly, but never thought much about it. I Eventually I will have to scan some oldies into the computer although I kick myself when I think of some of the places I visited when younger and think of missed opportunities.

Nancy C. It looks like you had fun at the homecoming parade. I agree with BW. You and your sister do look so much alike and you niece is so pretty!

You have had 2 surgeries so I am not surprised that that you are so fatigued during rads. You need to take care of yourself, walk or exercise when you can and then get your rest.

Also you are already on the tamoxifen. I did not start that until I finished rads and I am getting some dreadful fatigue even though I have been doing a lot of exercise and I think it may be tamoxifen related as its 2 months since rads finished. Sunday was good and I was out and about and exercised and took photos. Yesterday was a day off and I did exercise in the morning but I was not myself and came home and spent the rest of the day in bed. I was hungry and sleepy, just eating and sleeping the whole day, got nothing done. I am hoping it is just another temporary side effect as I will have a good day and then one when I am crazy tired and hungry. Last Wednesday it hit me driving to the office and I was really out of it all day at work. Thursday was better. I do hope these periods of tiredness resolve for all of us.

Just wanted to mention on the cardinal that I think that this may be my little hero that fed his mate during a snow storm 2 years ago getting old and losing his color. That makes me sad. I think it may be him as I originally noticed the little bump on the lower right beak so it MAY be the same bird. Either way I will be extra careful to make sure there is plenty of feed out  once the weather turns cold. I hope he makes it through the winter. I read that they can live to 15 but in the wild its much less.

This is my daddy and my aunt both have passed on from cancer. My aunt 2 years ago from vaginal cancer with mets to her lungs. We heard was probably ovarian to start and my dad a year ago from colon cancer. He bled out. It was pretty hard to watch but I know they are both healthy now and dancing having a great time in heaven.

Lizzysmom, I am glad something good came from your accident and glad you didn't get hurt. I will share a story with you  that sort of reminds me of your scary accident but don't have time now. My email was down for several hours tonight which never happens so I am late with everything tonight trying to get caught up with that.

Nancy C. I agree with Lizzysmom. You have had two surgeries. I can't believe you had the energy to do all the traveling you have. That was amazing to me. I was not feeling well for almost two months from my surgery but I had some complications and got sick in there too which didn't help. With rads it would be really strange for me. I would hit this wall of fatigue but I never knew when it would hit. It would be like one minute I was fine and then I the next minute I was just done in. Walking did help me a lot. I am sorry for your loss of your Dad and your aunt. That is a precious picture and a memory that you can hold on to. Yes, I am sure they are dancing in heaven now free of pain and sickness. My Dad is up there too. We lost him to cancer as well.

Lisa, What a beautiful rose pic with dew drops. I am not sure if I will get to try out my new macro kit or not this season. We have had nothing but rain, rain, rain, at my mom's. Not sure what is happening in my town. My roses were still in full bloom when I left but that could all change by the time I get back. I didn't bring the kit with me to my mom's.

When they say to use that lotion 2-3 times a day I used it faithfully 3 times a day and it really did help.
