The colors are glorious Nancy. I love maples. Last year the colors here in SE MA were amazing, not quite so much this year, but that's just my opinion. I think the weather affects it.
Lisa, I did not use a filter. I have a solar filter for my telescope that you can actually just hold over a camera lens for taking photos of sunspots. I was using my camera that goes down to ISO 50 I think, stopped it down as far as it would go and max shutter speed 8000. I did not realize until later that there is a little sunspot showing. For the pics that have the tree showing I just gradually adjusted it until the background was visible and focused on tree in distance. did a quick fix in Photoshop to bring out the background more without blowing out the eclipse.
Today I stopped by the Norfolk Botanical Garden near the airport on way home, what a beautiful place and I was in such a rush I fell on the gravel while holding 2 cameras. Aghh! but they and me were OK. I took some of the pics with my Fuji on a semi auto setting that allows you to adjust iso only which I like for landscapes and closeups BUT forgot to change it from 800 in my hurry so that kind of spoiled some shots - a little grainy. The field below with the gold wildflowers was breathtaking in reality and the rose garden was lovely too. I'll post some more pics tomorrow but I just got a cramp in my foot that I need to sort out LOL!

My god you ladies all take gorgeous pictures. It is so enjoyable to see so many beautiful things. I have a real "thing" for sky shots, and those are so lovely!!

Some more pics from the Botanical Gardens. I SOOO want to spend more time there but this time DH was waiting for me in the car so I barely scraped the surface.I could have spent hours in the rose garden alone. I envy the claws on the heron. I wished my nails would grow like that!!
This rose was not in great shape but it was even more lilac than in this photo, not pink as all.

Nancy C. It looks like you all had a great day!! Love the family pic and the dragon boat especially. Have always loved watching anything to do with motor racing, F1, Indy, NASCAR. Only get to watch on TV. Maybe one day i will get to a race!
Lisa, Beautiful reflection shot!!

DH could hardly wait to pick up Lyzzy this morning when the kennels opened. He made a smoothie that she likes to finish off. Its not coffee. He just uses the container from DD!

Aww, how cute! My dog loves the ice, at the bottom of a soda!

Lizzysmom, Love your pics. The one where the rose is huge in the forefront and then you see the others in the background was really neat. How did you do that? The heron was neat. I have yet to find one this year with my new camera I bought for birds. In the past they would see movement and fly. In my first failed attempt at growing a rose bush I had one close to that lilac colored on above. I love that color. The rose bush did not love where I planted it though and it bit the dust after one season. I realized they needed many hours of sun which my bushes in the back of my lot are very happy now that I figured that out. Lizzy is so cute. I bet she was so excited that her mom and dad were back home!
Lisa, Love that egret shot. Awesome reflection.
Nancy C. You must be feeling better to do a walk. Wow. I am impressed. Good for you. Every one adds to the cause for sure.
I spent most of the day with a friend at our local arboretum. I am going to be uploading my pics to my computer and see how they turned out. It was a fabulous day especially considering we are at the tail end of Oct.

Lisa, I love the egret and the flower shot is so original. How did you do that?
Nancy BW, for the big rose in the garden I was close to the rose and I just let the fuji do its thing. I had the iso set to 800 which was wrong but it decided to use F10 (giving a reasonable depth of field but not huge) and a fast shutter speed of 1500 by itself. As its a little pocket camera its wide angle 4.6mm when not on zoom so that helps with making DOF bigger. All I really need to do when its on this setting is to half push the button to lock the exposure when I like what I see and then aim and shoot. Its a lovely little camera but the zoom is not that great and I have dropped it so many times that using it in manual mode is really tough as the dial for setting the F stop and shutter speed is very difficult to turn and shreds my fingernails, so auto is much easier!
I have had no success with roses in our rocky soil so its lots of different sorts of day lillies as they grow anywhere! Its odd. I have never seen a pair of blue herons together, always just one on its own.
Lyzzy made such a fuss. After the first greetings she made a beeline for her toy crate to get her small soccer ball which is just soft enough for her to grab in her teeth (and for us to throw indoors).
I am so glad you made it to the arboretum. Looking forward to seeing your pics!!
Nancy C. Just saw your latest pic. I love it!! There is something about those retro sunglasses and those wigs that so made me smile!!

Huge October Glory Maple in back yard.... (this was last year... it's still too hot here for the colors to change...)

And the last rose of the season trying to find the sun underneath the maple....

Blessings, lovely captures. The rose amid the fall colors is exquisite!! Definitely one for framing.
Below are some miscellaneous ones I found from vacation last January. I think big Koi was saying something like" Junior just ignore that silly woman taking photos and she will go away"
I wish the glass was cleaner!!
Think this was a blue heron

Nancy C. Gee girl you need to take it easy. I hope you had a chance to recoup today. It was a glorious day here.
Lisa, Loving that close up of the egret. I haven't seen any around here so I think they have left for warmer weather even though it has been awesome here the last few days.
Lizzysmom, Just hearing about Lizzy makes me smile. Such a cutie pie. Thanks for the explanation about the BIG rose. LOL I didn't know if it was some fancy new trick you learned in your course. I spent the day at the Arboretum yesterday and this afternoon went to this place with the museum. In the last two days I have taken 349 pics. Yes, I know. Crazy. When I saw the chosen pics in this museum that my friends said I should look into I was really intimidated. However I had some pics turn out really well today. I might run them by you guys and see what you think. I am having such difficulty with my eyesight that it is really hard for me to tell if I have good focus or not. I have these web like really big floaters in both eyes. It is driving me crazy. Nothing they can do about it either. It is from a detached vitreous. I am thinking of a day trip tomorrow to this State Park. Not sure if I have the energy or not. We'll see.
Blessings, Beautiful. My maples really dropped leaves today so they might be gone in a few days. Your white rose is a beauty too.

Nancy, You are definitely not crazy. I can get through 500 in a day, especially if it includes birds where i set the camera to do multiples. I always forget to get spare SD cards from Amazon before traveling then end up paying way to much in Walgreens or somewhere! I need to try and get out too tomorrow. have been very lazy since I got back from vacation on Friday.

I went to the gym this morning then was lazy and needed a nap but I managed to haul myself to the local cemetery as I noticed some lovely trees. Its called a memorial park and it looks like one as there are no gravestones, only plaques in the ground so they can mow the lawns. DH and I bought a couple of plots there some years ago. Not sure our spot is as good LOL.

Lisa, All I know is that those beautiful pics are NOT from Illinois.
Lizzysmom, I was able to make it to this State Park I have been wanting to explore with my camera for quite a few years. I didn't think I was physically up to it but because of all my walking this summer I made a stab at it today. Oh my gosh was it hard. So many stairs on all of these trails. I made it up to Lover's Leap and I was so pooped I thought maybe I should just take the plunge, it might be easier than going back down. LOL I did think to text my sister since no one on earth knew I was there just in case she didn't hear from me anymore! I was by myself which now that I look back was not a good idea.
I ran into some people that said three wild turkeys just flew in maybe you'll see them. Well, no I didn't but I was rewarded when I made it to Eagle's Cliff there were a bunch of Pelicans in the river. They were very far away but I did take both cameras and I finally got to get my bird camera out. The fall leaves were spectacular. I just have been home for a little bit and haven't uploaded my pics yet. I got some good ones yesterday at this museum place and I am going to both enter their contest and summit some donations or pics that they select for their brochures etc. I need to work on them and send them before I have to resize them for this site.
So I have to take 500 pics to come close to you. LOL I don't know if I have 500 in me for one day. I am not doing any continuous shooting yet. Most of them have been landscape pics. I am finding that two hours is about all my body will allow. I even had on both knee braces today which was a good thing.
Well have a good evening and I will post when I can.

Lizzysmom, I just saw your pretty tree pics. Nice shots. I just bought my tombstone in August and am waiting to see if it is going to make it into the cemetery before they lay off the seasonal workers in Nov. I ordered a heart shaped stone and when I last checked it hadn't even come in yet. It took me forever to design it but I finally got them to do what I wanted. If it wasn't for privacy I would post a pic when it is done but maybe that might be a little too morbid for some anyway. Looks like you have a pretty cemetery. Mine is downstate in the country and a very peaceful and quiet place among cattle and farms. All of my family have graves there. My Dad is already there and my nephew.

Nancy, I am so glad you made it back safely!!. I tried a trail a couple of weeks after surgery. It was not a good idea and I did feel a little paniky as it was steeper than I expected. The things we do LOL. At least where I go you check in so they know that something is wrong if your car is still in the lot at sunset but its a good idea to tell somebody what time you expect to be back!
Glad that you finally got some pelicans too!! When shooting on continuous it is so easy to get through lots of shots, too many unless its a bird.

Lizzysmom, I forgot to mention the pretty Koi. It reminds me of Finding Nemo. LOL
