Thanks Lisa. It should be fun. I have never been there before but it the whole gardens are open year round and the pics I have seen from this key photography were out of this world. Her photography was right down my alley and will be my inspiration for sure. Her name is Anne Belmonte of you would like to google her and see all of her different galleries. She has about 350 photos of butterflies alone. So I am excited about the day. Hopefully we will both make in home in one piece!

Nice Lisa. I was watching a hummingbird today acting very bizarre. It was flying erratically and I had no idea what was going on. My neighbor told me tonight that there was a hawk and I thought she meant in my backyard trying to catch a squirrel this morning. I have a feeling that might be why this hummingbird was acting so strange.

Here are some pics of my trip to the Chicago Botanic Garden Blooms and Butterflies exhibit. Since I am still deciding which pics for my butterfly calendar these are ones that did not make the cut. It was a fun day and I saw so many butterflies I had never seen even in pictures. Can't wait to go back next season.

This first pic is a Blue Morpho that landed on this lady. The one underneath shows how beautiful the inside of it's wings are even though this one looked pretty tattered.

Nancy, I love the blue morphos. Photographed them here last year. Still on 24hr panda watch. Lost 2 hours of sleep to nights ago when animal planet, who funds the panda cam, put up an ad saying Lun Lun was in labor. It was just an ad. Also, not uch luck with astrophotography yet. Dh and I are spending Oct 1 out in the middle of nowhere at the last night of the Peach State Star Gaze. Lots of geeks will be on sites to show us hoto use my telescope and get me started with photographing with it.

Had a little fun last night at a preseason football game at our dome. I hate heights and we were in the rafters but was still pleased with my first attempt to shoot some pictures with my 70D in the dome. Really looking forward to photographing soccer games in new dome next year.

Scottie, I remember you going to take pics especially for the blue Morphos. I need to scroll back. I know you had some good pics. These were very elusive on the bright sunny day we were there. They were very active and when they would land on a flower they would close their wings. I wasted a lot of time trying to get pics of them but I was so fascinated by their color it was the first thing I noticed when we entered the exhibit. I didn't realize they were the blue Morphos until I had been there for a while. They had so many different kinds that I didn't take the charts in the exhibit as they are just something else to carry.

I know nothing about sports photography but looks good to me. My niece just sent me a belated birthday gift and she sent a panda bag in with several goodies. They are so cute. When the eagle cam went online my sister was totally addicted so i get it.

Good luck on your outing in Oct. Sounds like fun.

The hardest part of this wonderful festival is finding a spot so the ocean is behind the

ships, and trying to beat the haze...Not the greatest pix this year. but I enjoyed being

    out on the harbor.

Hi Lisa, I should know the name of that butterfly as I took quite of few at the butterfly places I have been but would have to look up my notes. There are two that are similar. I didn't realize you had those in CA too. They are striking with their orange color. Hope you found some plants that take little water. I will be going through butterfly withdrawal soon. I think they have migrated from here as there were none at the Arboretum except this tiny little one and he was too fast to get a good focus. So I had to go to plan B.

As usual, lovely pictures ladies. Finally got some shots of the hummingbird this evening (Edited in Adobe Lightroom). Really need more light.

I have been out of pocket since Weds. night.

Dh and dd were t-boned in my Camry late Weds by a dump truck which ran a red light. By the grace of God, they have minor injuries, although dd is going for ortho consult next week and may have to have a neck MRI. The car of course was totaled.

Huge shout out to Toyota that the main frame did not collapse.

So after 3 crazy days we now have a fancy slightly used Camry. 5th Carfax car and TG we were able to shop online. Please pray that dd, who is a soccer player, has only minor soft tissue injuries.

I've been blown away by the beautiful photos on this thread!. Thanks for letting me enjoy your nature shots. Bandwoman, if you do make a calendar, I'd sure like to buy one. Or maybe more than one to send as gifts. Jan

Scottie, so sorry to hear about the car accident. I will pray that your DD will not have anything serious and will heal quickly. They were both very fortunate. Love the hummingbird.

Lisa, are you okay? Have you had another surgery? Have missed seeing your posts. I take Birds and Blooms magazine and this month they had a picture of your butterfly and they were asking what it was. I may be spelling this wrong but it is a Gulf Fritillary.

Jan, I am glad you are enjoying the pics here. There are some talented ladies here. I have been working on my butterfly calendar and had a setback. My computer had to be taken into the shop this weekend and of course the one with all my pics and my work on my calendar so I had to take a forced hiatus from that. I have decided to still make the calendar but will not be going pro at this time. The insurance issue is the fly in the ointment for me at this time. I will give some as gifts to friends and family and if others would like one I may ask just for the cost for printing only as it will be quite a chunk of change to produce. Stay tuned. I feel honored at your request.

Scottiemom, horrified to hear of the car accident!! Thank God they are okay and I will add my prayers for your DD. I think your Hummingbird pic is the most evocative one yet!! Very romantically soft colours....

    Scottie, praying for your daughter.

Lisa, sorry you are having trouble with your arm. Glad you got some good pics. You son is quite the handsome gentleman! Hope you all had a good birthday celebration. My laptop has been in the shop for several days and I finally got it back and it gets to live a little longer. Whew!

One of my photographer friends and I are going to visit this camera club tonight. I am hoping it will be a good experience. We'll see.

Thanks all. Dd sees the ortho on Thursday and a neuro next Tuesday for a concussion. All in all we are very blessed and thanks to Carmax, Consumer Reports etc, we now have a new used car.

Lisa sorry you're having trouble with the arm again. Hope it heals. You're way too young to have a 45yo son.

Just found our that Saturday is blue morpho day. Will have to try to get to the Gardens with my camera.

On that note, I just saw an ad for the new Canon Mark IV. A girl can dream.

Ladies, I wanted to share some good news. My photo of the dragonfly ended up winning the monthly contest for August. The newspaper interviewed me last week and the article with the winning photo came out in the paper today. I actually mentioned you ladies as my motivation to submit that picture for the contest. I win some money to be used at this camera shop so I am thrilled with that. Exactly two years ago i was the monthly winner for August in 2014. I have had three photos in the paper in the last two months. If someone would have told me when I retired I would be into photography I would have never believed it. Music has been my life passion but surgeries happened and that door was closed for me as far as performing anymore. This is now my second chapter.

Thanks Barbe. I used to play professionally as a clarinetist in a woodwind quintet. Most of my career was being a band director in schools and having my own teaching studio for clarinet out of my home.
