Well done, Lisa. I looked at the moon several times and just never got out my camera. Were you able to capture it when it was first rising? I did drive to a forest preserve to look at the sunset and saw a lady setting up her tripod I am guessing for some moon shots.

I am looking into a new photo printer. I am looking at one that can print fairly large prints but it is so enormous I am not sure where I would put it. Any ideas on printers? I have an old Epson which does a nice job but I am looking at the Canon Pixma 100. I have two printers side by side on a very old computer hutch.

One of my heron pics made the paper and a lady from one of my retiree groups wants to buy the print and frame it for her husband as he really liked it. I am going crazy with the crop factor trying to print an 8 by 10. I know even with having it professionally printed they still deal with the crop factor as well. I am giving it to her as a gift and didn't want to run into a huge expense. I am playing around with it in Photo Shop Elements but am limited because I don't want to clip off either wing and the herons wings are fully extended. I don't want to lose it's reflection either.

Nancy try 11 x 14". Harder to find a frame/matt but I've had to do that before.

Barbe, I am not sure if my printer can handle that size. It's menu does not have that as an option I don't think but I will have to check on that. I played around with it in Photo shop and somehow stumbled upon something but I don't eve remember how or what I did. It did help. I will be resuming the project later tonight. Maybe you meant to just have it printed at a lab at that size. If I buy this one printer online it can handle that size but may not be able to order until after Thanksgiving as I am going to be at my mom's for a week coming up soon, I read all of these articles of how it is so simple to figure all of this crop factor out but the funny thing is it takes them pages and pages to explain it so I don't call that simple like they say it is. The lady is planning on having it framed herself so we'll see. Thanks for the input.

Here is a mix of pics I took today. Hard to believe the flowers were blooming in mid Nov. This weather is really unusual.

my husband bought me a thousand dollar canon printer with 10 inks . It really printed well for a couple of months and then it was nothing but trouble . The sensors couldn't always read the inks and then nothing would print . I finally was so fed up I gave it to my son who is a high school teacher . So many it was a lemon . Now I use an inexpensive HP. It is fine except it only does up to document size.

Thanks for the nice words for the moon shots

i couldn't get both the moon and the foreground both in focus so I almost didn't even look at the pictures

Thanks Barbe. I left the Y where I swim laps yesterday and on the way there I could see the side of the building with the light hitting the leaves and vines growing on the building and had to return after swimming with my camera. That building was built in 1911 and is an historic building which is protected from changes to the outside. I didn't post any of the actual pics of the side of the building and maybe I should have. Those leaves shots were actually from the vines that crawl up the whole side of the building.

Lisa, I am sure sorry to hear your experience with the expensive Canon printer. This one I am looking at has 8 cartridges I believe. I was looking a few months ago at a really expensive Epson and when I saw the replacement cost for the cartridges it was so outrageous I soon gave up that idea. How long ago was that you had the printer when it was new. I have read a ton of reviews and by far the vast majority were rave reviews but then you see situations like yours and you just don't know if that was an anomaly or not.

I may take this pic I am working on and see what a lab can do. I just can't see to find the magic solution to tweaking it the way I want.

    Thanks for your input.

This may be the end of the nice long run we have had of warm weather during the day. I had to get out there one more day. I had noticed this hornets nest the other day and figured I would go back and get some pics of that.

This different angle of the hornet's nest looks like a wrinkled old man with the leaves for eyes and nose and with one ear ring. LOL

This may be the last of the egrets as the pond had some ice on it today. We had a great run while it lasted.

Thanks Barbe. The last time I studied art in depth was when I was in college. We had what was called a short term in January where we studied one course four hours a day for a month. I had this art class in this old building which I remember we were freezing. Don't remember if the heat wasn't working or what but we looked at a gazillion examples of art in different periods. Would like to take that now as an adult and see how it could help my photography.

I also think the innocence of a non-trained eye adds a lot of pleasure to art in any form. Those of us with no training take risks that a trained eye might not take.

Nancy your Egrets are amazing and beautiful. Wildlife calendar?

Not much time for photography the past few weeks as I just ended another tri-annual long hours stint at work. I did make it to our Botanical Gardens for the holiday lights and ended up chasing the super moon while there. Pixs look more like a super sun. I need a different lens. We go down to the Okefenokee Swamp on Thursday so I can chase egrets and other wildlife for 4 days. Also waiting for the arrival of a new midrange zoom lens to take with me.

    Feeling excited. Scottie

Barbe, you may be right on that point. In my case either innocence or stupidity. LOL

Lisa, I didn't either but sure admire all those people who can draw and paint beautiful pictures.

Scottie, thank you. Our Arboretum does a light and music show that goes through January and just opened up just in time for the frigid weather to start after we were all in short sleeves just two days ago. I love your light pics and you got some interesting moon shots. I was just not in the mood when we had the super moon and I had two great opportunities and didn't do it. We have had some gorgeous sunsets and the other day the sun was so huge going into the sunset that it looked like a super sun! Have fun on your upcoming outing.

I had an awesome time photographing the Okefenokee Swamp at Sunrise yesterday. It was beautiful out and the birds were quite active. Great White Egret, Great Blue Heron and Little Blue Heron.

Thank you Ladies. I absolutely love photography and do not have nearly enough time for it. Not my day job. Here are a few of what I call my eerie swamp pixs. Today I'm going to a local wildlife/nature preserve to play with some macro shots. . .hopefully. I got a new lens for this trip it's an 18 - 135 mm, with aperture ranging from 3.5 - 5 and macro capability.

Scottie, love your eerie shots. Are these early morning pics? I have to say that after my last decade of teaching and getting up at 4am I avoid mornings like the plague now. LOL I am never up for early shots but if these are early maybe I should reconsider, Gorgeous shots.

Lisa, I looked online at monitors when you mentioned it before. They are pricey but I bet it would be so much easier to see things. I am still using my HP 17in laptop for mine and I can't see things as well as I should. I don't really know too much about it. I did pull the trigger on the Canon photo printer pixma 100 last night so it should be coming this week. It said you need two people to lift it. Should be interesting since it is me and my cat. I am still at my mom's and supposed to be going back home tomorrow and now we are in a crisis with her hip. Not sure what is going to happen as I have my own medical procedures this week too. Good luck. I always read as many reviews as I can and let that help in my decisions on a lot of the photography things that are new territory for me. I do a lot of ordering with B&H photo out of NY. Just their reviews are good to read whether you buy anything or not. Their customer service is awesome too.

Lisa, one of my gardener friends introduced me to this family orchid business last year during the winter. I hope to visit this place to continue my flower photography during the cold season. All the different an unique hybrids are truly remarkable.

Your photos are very interesting combination of colors. These flowers are so cool in their uniqueness.

I was looking on the b& H website and asus monitor had some great reviews. If you google the top five monitors for professional photographers in 2016 Dell come out on top. I have an asus desktop with my old Dell monitor as I really like the dell monitor. It is not a huge size as i am still using a very old computer hutch I have had for a very long time. I may need to rethink the whole room setup to accomadate this new photo printer that is coming this week.

It is fun exploring all the goodies out there. I have bought quite a lot of equipment from B& H. They usually have free shipping and no sales tax and they are really really fast at shipping things out. I ordered this printer last night and it is coming on Wed. They are so have a decent used dept and I have bought a used extender which looked like new and save some bucks.

Wish we had a lunch bunch here. There may be some that I don't know about as Chicago is a very big area.
