Here are some pics from our local arboretum. The leaves have been slow to turn this year but I found some beautiful colors today.

Thanks Joanne. I was surprised how fast the leaves have turned compared with just a few days ago. I need to get a pic of my roses in full bloom with my red maple trees. That will be an unusual pic for sure. My New Guinea impatiens beds are blooming as i it was still summer. I don't think we have really had a true frost here yet. I am NOT complaining.

Thanks Lisa and Barbe. I had to convince myself that I could still shoot a scene after spending so much time on macro photography for so many months.

Very pretty Joanne. I hope to get a few shots of mine this afternoon before they start falling. These days no one can tell pics from a camera phone or some DSLR. What is the white thing inside the perimeter?

Thanks Jann. Please feel free to call me Nancy.

    I bet that's a birdbath base!!!

The only plus sign for us is we have no leaves to rake .

I thought that might be it but wasn't sure. I figured that was the frog you painted this year or at least I think so. I have the opposite problem. I have taken the little girl off the top of my fountain but the base is still there. I am waiting for a strong man to come along and help me get it off so I can put my heated birdbath up. It attaches to the base of the fountain. I have a furnace guy coming tomorrow and I may ask him nicely if he would lift it off for me.

The guy that cut down one of my trees helped to get the fountain leveled at the beginning of the season. I used to be able to do this on my own but now I can sneeze and throw my back out! Most guys are very helpful about these type of things.

I got some pics of my maple trees in the back today. My leaves haven't completely turned bright red but more of a bright orange. Maybe tomorrow if they are still there they will be red. They are called red ember maples. I haven't even looked at them yet. Watching the big game right now. Cubs are winning. Woohooooooooooo.

We have a lawn service in our neighborhood but because this has been such a strange and warm fall I think they are done for the season which means we may have to rake afterall. Ugh. I just realized the other day I didn't do my usual cleaning out of the garage I usually do in the summer. See what photography has done for me. LOL If I wait a bit longer there will be snow on the ground. See what you are missing in CA. LOL

well the other good news is that if we want to see fall, or snow, all we have to do is drive and hour up in the mountains. I had one of my two MRIs today. The tech asked me what music I would like piped in so I said how about Tina Turner..and guess what, I still fell asleep even with the banging and the music. Guess I was ready for my siesta

LOL I need relaxing music for MRI's. Somehow I don't think Tina would do it for me. LOL Glad you got to rest. Hope it all turns out well,

    Mums, so cute.

I took these yesterday in my back yard on November 1, 2016 before the leaves started coming down today. I had to get this historic picture of my roses blooming, summer flowers still blooming and the trees ready to fall. I don't ever remember having flowers in November and of course I have never lived to see the Cubs playing game 7 in the World Series tonight. Enjoying the ride and the mild temps,

Beautiful cactus or is it cacti?

Today was such a great day. The Cubs won last night, it was an absolutely gorgeous day out and after having a long lunch with a fellow retiree I found this special new place to find egrets. Here are some pics from today.

This is a blue heron in my usual place.

It had a fish in it's mouth but didn't have my long lens so it is hard to see.

Nancy, the picture of that tree with the red/orange leaves is gorgeous! We don't get quite as colorful a display out here in the SF Bay Area with our deciduous trees. It doesn't get cold enough. When I was in college, I learned that the temperatures have to drop a certain amount at night and the amount of daylight has to change so the trees stop producing their green color and their reds, yellows, oranges, and rusty colors come out. We do have seasons out here, but they are not as dramatic.

Thanks Lita. Those trees are in my backyard. The next day after taking those pics we had rain and the leaves really started coming down. Hoping you get a good night's sleep tonight.

Thanks Barbe. I found this new spot and it is just gorgeous there now. It is on a bike path so I have to be careful. LOL It is funny the reactions I have gotten. Some bikers look at me strangely until they see the heron and then they say ohhhhhhhhhh.
