Oh those things are awful to deal with! We get moths that here that get in when we let the dogs in and out at night and we have to make sure to try to turn the lights out or they'll follow the light inside. Then the dog chases them around the house and bumps into things trying to get to it!

A common rant I'm sure, the "gods" in the Insurance who need to "approve" what the DR has ordered. My MO is anxious that I get a CT and at the vist early Sept asked me when I would get it. I told her I had not heard anything. She looked at her notes and said she had put in the order late August, and that I needed to self-advocate and call scheduling. So I called, they said they had her order and scheduled one. Several days later they called and said they were still waiting for authorization from Insurance. So I rescheduled a week out, and will be calling Insurance this week to find out why they delay. Is it just Covid that is delaying everything or should it really take a month between the time a DR orders something and Insurance approves? In the past scheduling was much easier and Insurance did not seem like a hurdle.

Got a call yesterday from GI office to go over my test results of the ultra sound. The gal didn't sound too professional to me and I really should have asked what her position is. Does anyone else do this? I mean she sounded like she was reading off a script. I was kind of course and just did the yeah, yeah and got off the phone. I read the report almost 2 weeks ago! No mention of any follow up. I was a little bewildered. I just shook my head and went back to work. Later I got another call that I didn't answer as it said potential spam, and this gal sounded way more professional on the message. Clear and concise requesting me to call for an appointment and they are sending an order to repeat my labs in 2 months. Glad to have some direction finally, and now I have an idea of how long it takes this practice to communicate with their patients. Approx. 10-14 days. Also, still no clue how long it will be to get this endoscopy scheduled either. Just a little vent. I hate medical stuff.

I have a mammo set for next week. I am not as anxious as usual, so that's good until I get there, right? If they take me back for an ultra sound I'll try not to faint. Last time it went well, here's hoping I pass!

I do not answer phone calls from anyone I do not know. Today there is a message from someone who claims is working for my oncologist office and working from home and using a cell phone to make calls from and wanted to update my insurance prior to my visit on Thursday. First off it did not come from their office and I have no idea who this person is and there is NO WAY I am telling anyone my information on the the telephone. That invites fraud. How dumb do people think we are?

A lot of people would be dumb enough to call back. But you're right not to. You didn't call them. You didn't get that message via mychart. You didn't have someone ask you as you checked in at the onc office.

It used to burn my butt when Medicare would call my husband asking for him to update information with them. UM, NO. If he had received a letter saying he needed to update information, and here are the 3 ways to do it... that would be different. They called several times. Every time I would remind him (a very smart, lucid guy who knows there are billions of scammers out there) not to give them any information. He didn't call them!

I get mad at people just being mean in general out there to others. Life is so short and they have no clue. Why just be mean? What happened to people being nice to each other? We only seem to want to watch movies from the 1940's or 1950's lately. After that it seems we are not impressed too much. People were nice them it seemed. Or at least if they were not they hid it better I guess.

bcincolorado, a movie channel I watch shows a lot of film noir. People weren't nice in those at all! Add in the more blatant racism, misogyny, classism, and several other isms, and it wasn't very nice for a LOT of people. They may have said horrible things politely, but it was still horrible.

bcincolorado, I get it. Didn't our mothers teach us to JUST BE NICE??? Anyway, I saw on another thread (maybe this one) that there is a movie streaming service like Net Flix, but it's called Pure Flix. I have looked at it and it looks pretty good - along with Brit Box. I think both of those were mentioned somewhere, but I have no idea which thread.

I'm older than most of you and here's what I've been wondering the last couple of years (like 15 or 20). Being nice kept us (women) from accomplishing our goals - getting good jobs, equal pay, equal rights, not being denigrated or overpowered by men in general. I never burned any bras back in the day because I was a "good girl". I've been spending my later years learning how to start putting myself first at least sometimes, and QUIT FEELING GUILTY.

MinusTwo: Nothing wrong with being a little late to the party (we are of an age) but self-advocacy should not cause guilt. I think being the only girl in my family helped me develop some self-preservation techniques earlier but it was a man's world in most of my work positions. Now I have no compunctions about going toe to toe with someone who challenges my rights to free speech.

I walked out of a car dealership when the salesman kept talking to my husband about the car I was purchasing. My DH kept redirecting him to me but he was not interested in what I had to say nor my feedback on price so we left. He called 3 days later to tell me he was still holding the car for me and I told him I had purchased a car the same day, from another dealer who not only listened to me but met my price parameters. He started to hem and haw and I hung up. Wow, I felt powerful in that moment and haven't looked back since.

    betrayal,

That is the best story I’ve heard in a while! I bet driving that new car was extra sweet

Betrayal, I had a very similar experience. Had looked at cars online, wanted to test drive a certain model, we told the salesman that the car was for me ( did not tell him this was a planned purchase and I would be paying with cash). He basically ignored me and focused on my DH. We test drove his car, using the dealer's gas, left and got the car from another dealer. Yes, it did feel good to drive that car, registered in my name!

Yup - I was buying a car & my DH was just there for moral support since car dealers are notorious for treating women like idiots. The salesman kept addressing himself to my DH and DH kept saying - not my car, not my issue, not my decision, you're talking to the wrong person. The salesman (note 'man') finally said, well aren't you her husband? Bless my DH who said, What business of that is yours? And what difference does that make? She has her own job & her own credit rating and it will be her car & she will be responsible for the payments.

Beaver - love the story about going to get a car from another dealer in the 1st dealer's auto.

Oops, Minus, I wasn't cars to the other dealer in our car. Wish I had thought of your idea, though!

My DH cannot negotiate to save his life, so I was always the negotiator when he was buying a new car. I was sort of the secret weapon held in reserve until we were willing to commit. For one of his cars, the price quoted was about $10 over a nice round number and I told them I did not want to pay that so they had to go talk to the "boss". While he was busy BSing with the boss to get the price I was willing to pay, I was standing near two other salesman who were discussing "did you hear that one buyer wanted us to eat $10" and the other one starts to laugh and says "well, good luck with that". At that point I turned around and said " hey fellows, let me introduce myself, I am the lady that won't pay that extra $10 because it is my money. So the deal is my price or the highway". They could not have moved faster to get away from me. We did get the car for what I wanted to pay.

Did the same when my DD wanted a car and the salesman very loudly proclaimed I was crazy when I wrote my offer for her car on a piece of paper. Went to another dealer the next day, got her the same car loaded with extras for hundreds less than what I had quoted him. It pays to be prepared to stick to your guns.

I had a car salesman close to tears once by the time I got through negotiating when we bought a newer jalopy. I made him give us $ for every single functioning part on our horrible old car. I enjoyed the heck out of it. Hubby told me on the way home I almost got money for the dirt on the windshield.

Years ago my husband and I were shopping for a new car. One of the things I wanted was a V-8 engine. The salesman we had told me I wouldn’t be able to handle it and insisted on a V-6. That went back and forth. He had “us” turned out to be me, since I was the principal driver, test drive a V-6. His jaw dropped when husband gave me the keys to the car. The “test drive” was in a parking lot. That knocked out testing the turning radius of the car, which is important to me. After a three minute, if that, test drive, we go into the dealership and I told him that I now wanted to test drive a V-8. We were going around on this, husband remained out of the conversation, when the manager came over and asked what the problem was. When he found out, he told the salesman why aren’t you letting her drive what she wants. During that, I looked at my husband and said let’s go. Got up and the tune changed that I could test drive a V-8. Told the salesman it was “too late, you’ve lost a sale.” Manager was not pleased with him. Gave me such satisfaction to deny him the sale.

No husband in my case but I had a putz that insisted I did NOT want a manual transmission (at that time I liked to drive my car, not have it drive me) and was obsessed with showing me the mirrors in the visors. Seriously? Gave me a shit offer on my trade in which I knew they were salivating over. Walked away and then he proceeded to call every freaking day! For weeks. Sorry buddy…..

Love these stories! When I was buying a car (I was still single), the salesman kept asking, "What kind of payment do you want?" And EVERY time, I said, "I don't want to discuss payments, I want to discuss PRICE!" Sheesh, he finally listened and I got the car I wanted.

Just remembered another time when my husband and I were looking for a new car. I was writing down figures the salesman was giving us and was told that the dealership doesn’t allowthat. Looked at my husband and said I don’t think we want this car and walked out. Can’t remember why they had our phone number but they called trying to make the sale. Had already bought the same model car from a different dealership and had the pleasure of telling him that.

Can't say too much since can't drive anymore. We did have to get a new car recently. Looked online. I sat it while he drove it and made sure I could in an out of it ok. We figure last one we'll probably end up buying before we die.

Great stories. I will have to reread when it is time to consider a car purchase (hopefully not for years) or any other pricey item.

We ended up getting one from 2020 that was leftover so got a great deal and pulled money out of our savings and paid cash so he brought it down more. We named it Corona. LOL!!! We do have a sick medical sense of humor now after all we've been through.

When Saturns first came out, in the early 90s they advertised they were a different kind of car company. I needed a car, so I went. They handed me a paper pre printed with the prices of what I wanted. No haggling, take or leave. Was by myself, no talking down to me, or asking for DH.

I liked that so much I bought a total of 4 cars from them. And if they still made them I’d be in one

I dread buying cars too so I drive them until the wheels fall off!!

I'm only on the 6th car of my lifetime. My first wheels were a 1980 Chev. Monza. Brand new price was under $5K my 1st ever loan was 3 yrs @ 98.89 per month. I drove that thing for like 9 years! I then bought a used Buick Skylark, didn't have this one too long. A new Plymouth Acclaim- drove til the wheels came off. A new Plymouth Breeze-daughter totaled that one. After that, my neighbor sold me his mother's 1997 Chev. Lumina as she couldn't drive it any longer. I drove that for 3-4 years and the 2nd time it stranded me, I started shopping. I sold it to my other neighbor and it is still running!! Currently, I have a 2011 Mitsubishi Galant. Purchased it used in 2015 I think. It has 108K on it and has given me no troubles, hope it lasts a few more years.

I hear you on driving cars into the ground. Not big on splashing out for new cars every few years but then I’m a tad frugal with some things (paying interest annoys me). I’m on my fifth vehicle at 59 years old. My first car was a Ford Pinto that I bought for $600. I drove it for two years, with a bit of off roading. LOL. It burned oil like crazy (we were all much less environmentally aware at that time). When it stopped burning oil I thought oh, oh and sold it for $400. Next was a Used Honda Civic that had to have the engine replaced at one point and then, ironically, developed cancer. My brother and I rebuilt the fenders with boat adhesive. Ha! Then my pickup truck phase, first with a used Maazda and then, my first new vehicle, a Ford Ranger which I still have. I had been lusting after a Suburu for a couple of years so when I received the MBC diagnosis I thought now’s the time! Four years later, I love my Forrester but with Covid it has ridiculously low mileage. Think this one will see me through…. although Tesla’s intrigue me….Happy

I drove the last Saturn over 100k, till the a/c died in August. Not good in FloriDuh. Would have cost more to fix than it was worth. Now I’m in a Chev hope it’s the last car I ever buy.

We just bought a new car because our loyal 2005 Corolla was finally getting into the expensive repair phase. Once the repairs cost more than the car's worth, it's time. We got one of the less expensive leftover 2021 models, and it still cost more than our first house did about 35 years ago (granted, that house was a wreck). Hubby wanted a sedan, which is what we've always had. I told him I'm at the point of needing my walking stick now, and within the lifetime of this vehicle, it might need to hold a walker or roll-around thingy. He switched to hatchback/small SUV right away, which I appreciated. I like it, but it has running boards and I'm so uncoordinated that I can't figure out how to get in! So far I just fall into my seat.
