Twinnie.. Happy Birthday !! It's my Hubby's birthday π today too :-)

Happy Birthday, Beppy!
Sandy, what an adventure! I can't believe Neosporin is Rx only in Europe. It always seemed to me like they were more permissive about medications. Who would have thought us wild and crazy Americans would be the ones with the over the counter antibiotic ointments.
Thank you to everyone who is piling in my pocket for my 3 month follow up tomorrow!

Dearest Beppy,

Happy birthday, Beppy & Twinnie!
Cubbie, usually the EU is very progressive about painkillers, whether NSAID or codeine, as well as some other drugs like Ventolin inhalers. They are trying to keep antibiotics out of the wastewater, some of which does leach not just into the sea but also the groundwater. And they are dead serious about curbing antibiotic abuse and the rise of resistant bacteria. What I don't understand is why melatonin and biotin are considered medications (and not OTC) rather than supplements--yet herbs are sold freely. Maybe for melatonin & biotin, Switzerland will be laxer. In Paris, people consult their pharmacist before calling a doctor. (Here and in Germany, the apothecaries all seem to be herbal &/or homeopathic--maybe because the gov't has to pay doctors and provide Rx meds, but not pay pharmacists nor cover OTC drugs & herbs).
Kicking back in my room at the Beau Rivage Palace in Lausanne. Mercifully, we got the first gate at Heathrow--though it was down two flights and a very long corridor to the jetway. Flight was just long enough for a quick salad-&-cheese lunch & adult beverage (believe me, I'd earned that free champagne by then). We had reconnoitered in the biz class lounge to coordinate before the 2:30 flight--those taking the 7:30 reserved a minibus, and they said we and the 5:15ers were welcome to join them. But when my colleague & I deplaned in Geneva we looked at each other and said simultaneously, "screw the minibus--let's get our bags & take the express train!" First class on the train was roomy and comfy, and the ride was smooth. In 40 minutes we were in Lausanne. Long line of taxis waiting, and the fare wasn't too bad--unfortunately, taxi rides are just about the only reasonably-priced things around here. The restaurant was closed by the time we checked in, but hey--Jacuzzis and 24-hr. room service, right?
Well, let's just say I'm glad I snuck some gingersnaps from the airport lounge--a simple sandwich is 35 CHF, a salad nearly that much. An entree runs anywhere from 35 CHF for a veggie platter to 75 CHF for a small steak. (And no, that's not "funny money"--the CHF is worth a tad more than the US$ and we got a crappy exchange rate for our British pounds at the airport--and nobody but hotels and better restaurants take credit cards). At least our breakfasts and coffee breaks are included, we're having a reception at Philip Morris HQ (who are sponsoring the course) which I hope--if it's anything like the ones in Paris & Barcelona--will have some decent hors d'oeuvres) tomorrow night, and there's a closing dinner Wed. night. We are on our own for lunch both days. I see bottom-of-my-briefcase Atkins bars and hotel-room Nespresso in my immediate future. Meanwhile, the minibus with the rest of our group may just be pulling in from Geneva right now. They'll be even crankier and sticker-shocked than I am. (I'd love to use the Jacuzzi in my bathroom....but I'm afraid to set off LE.
I didn't don compression for the flight, since it was only 90 minutes. But I did notice my ring tightening, my forearm feeling "fuller" and my fingers stiffening. Fortunately, by the time we caught our train my arm was back to normal. When I take the TGV to Paris, I will don compression--it's a 3-hr trip, crossing the Alps before heading back down to Paris.
Never dreamed I'd ever say this, but one of the reasons I'm looking forward to Paris is that compared to Lausanne, it's cheap (even meals at the Intercontinental near the Opera). But I think next year's CLE trip should be to Italy (or return to Spain) so we can all save some serious coin.

ChiSandy eesh, those prices (though in fairness I'm not sure that room service is EVER a good deal?) but glad you made it more or less in one piece.

Happy birthday, Slow!! πππ
I introduced myself a while ago and then all kinds of crazy happened. Long story short. ..or long:/ I got a staph infection at the site of the damn drain..ugh 102 temp, 2am ambulance ride 1.5hr to hospital that ended up being a 4 day stay. Not sure if anyone here is treated at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore..but the stay isn't horrible. It was kinda like a mini vacation..but I realize it's not that for everyone.
Last week a close friends husband passed away from complications of a rare cancer. He left behind a 4 and 8yr:( I have a 5yro and 8yro myself..the rabbit hole opened and I fell in for a bit but hopped out as quick as I could.
I got my port put in today.. and tomorrow the party finally gets started..woohoo..ehhh. Tonight we told the kids about how I be losing my hair eventually...my 8yro didn't take it well She says she never wants to see me without hair..ever ..as tears flowed from her eyes. Heart breaking to say the least.*sigh*
Anyhoo..hope all is well with everyone. Loving all the pictures and stories of travel adventures.
Have a great week!
Theresa

Its a party!!!!
Cubbie good luck with your f/u.
Sorry for those experiencing losses.

Glad to see you posting again, Theresa. You have had a lot going on in your life. Does your MO know about your infection and hospitalization? Kids all react differently to our treatment. My kids handled it pretty well. They were affected more by my nausea and weakness than my losing my hair. What kind of chemo drugs are you getting? I'll be in your pocket tomorrow!
This thread moves quickly and Easter is a major holiday in our family, so I am going to go waaaay back with a few of my comments.
Regarding the picture from our SoCal Brunch: from left to right, HBCheryl, 2ndtimearound, Molly, Octogirl, Slow and Poppy (me). Cheryl and 2ndtime are from other threads on this site.
What was it like to meet? For me, it's amazing. Everyone is real and just like on the board. Smart, kind, lovely, interested and interesting! Personally, I was informed that having grandkids makes the chaotic/difficult teenaged years so worth the difficulties and heartache. (I have three teenaged boys in the house.) I was contemplating going back to work, and even though I never brought this up, I received advice that helped me make my decision. (I need to make every day matter and consciously chose what I want to spend my day.) Some of the women work at jobs they love, jobs that feed their souls. Others are anticipating retirement. Some even hate their job. These women are real... and accepting. It is quite wonderful. We are strong, and sometimes weak. The support and friendship is so real. I'm a better, stronger person because I know them.
For those that attended the brunch. The police helicopter was circling overhead because a homeless person made a bomb threat regarding the Metrolink train. The station is on the other side of the freeway. No bomb, but every threat is taken seriously. Also, I had only met 2ndtime and Cheryl one other time! Isn't it amazing how much it seemed like we had known each other for a long time!
Cheryl, The crazy traffic was due to the escort home of a Temecula Marine who was killed in Afghanistan.
Octo, Thanks for coordinating! I'm glad you enjoyed your meal at Mario's. I would have hung out more, but Easter is a HUGE deal for our family and there was so much prep still to do.
Hugs Everyone!

Happy Birthday Beppy.
ChiSandy what an adventure but I can't believe that a chemist at Boots didn't suggest you get Savlon, it's an antiseptic cream, you may be able to get it in Switzerland. Molly yes it was such a wonderful get together, the only good thing that has come out of all this is that you get to meet and connect and form friendships with women who you would never meet. Poppy thanks for the info, it makes sense now that I think about it as most of the guys on the bikes appeared to be Vets and I will say that the send off was spectacular.

Good Evening Crazies,
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes. So very kind of you all to think of me. I love you all!!
I had such a wonderful time meeting with some of the crazies on Saturday. Thank you for making all the arrangements, Octo, you are just as delightful in person as you are on this thread. Molly is a sweetheart too!! We all know how I feel about the rest of the ladies...Poppy, hbcheryl, and 2nd_time_around are some of the nicest women you'll ever meet. I can't wait to do it again!! Hopefully more crazies can join us at our next get together.
Twinnie, hahahahahaha.....Maybe we should have a contest on who gets the most guesses right?? Oh wait....I see that Poppy posted the names that go with the masks. NEVERMIND. hahahaha I feel honored to share a birthday with your DH!! Please wish him a Happy Birthday from the Crazies!!! There are so many March birthdays.
Rainy, If your son decides on USC or UCLA, he can make the trip to my house whenever he wants a home cooked meal. haha He is always welcome!! We used straws to eat!! hahahahahahaha It must be such a comfort to know the neighbors are checking on your mom. That cake hat gave me a good laugh!!
Molly, I hope your traffic wasn't too bad going home. How is Wyatt doing?? I think about him every day. The picture of Ayden was adorable. It makes me dream about what it will be like to color eggs with my own grandchildren someday. Thanks for sharing the picture with us!!
Ducky, Thinking of you. I miss you!! I hope you had a good time at the shore this past weekend. What did you think of your DDs shore home?
Pennsygal, I'm not sure I realized you were in PA. I have a special fondness for people from PA!! My dad was born and grew up there. The state holds very fond memories for me.
JAN, I hope you're starting to feel better. I've been worried about you!! I am always very nervous to meet new people. In fact, I feel like I'm a bit socially awkward. But so far, every women I've met on BCO, has made me feel comfortable from the start. Maybe it's the shared experience??? I always feel silly afterwards for being so nervous.
GMA, That new camera is taking some awesome pictures. I spent some time catching up on your thread. I love all the pictures. Did you see the grands for Easter??
Poppy, I loved your description of our get together. I feel so fortunate to have you all in my life. No matter how challenging life gets, everything always seems better with the crazies. Love you dear friend. I was thinking of you on Saturday night. Wondered if the ribbons were all finished.
Iris, I hope you enjoyed the time at your friends house for Easter. That's a good idea about the PT. Maybe when you finish you won't need the shots. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!
Katy, It was fun to Facetime with you!! You were with us, without being with us. It was so nice to see your pretty, happy face!! Thanks for chatting with us. I enjoyed the YouTube video as well as the other pictures you posted. I hope we can get the video chat worked out for our next get together. It would be so awesome to have some more of the out-of-state crazies join in too.
Cubbie, I wish you could have joined us too. Car repairs are NEVER fun. We will all be in your pocket for your three month follow up tomorrow.
We will try not to make so much noise and leave less crumbs this time.
Funthing, I just hate when the doctors don't have the same opinion. Can they make our choices any more complicated???? Grrrrrr. Maybe a third opinion??? I wish you didn't have to go through this again. It's got to be so frustrating. I got the emoji masks on Amazon. I thought it fit with our Crazy Town theme. haha
Octo, So glad you got home safely. Ribs and champagne sound perfect to me. I'm not much of a champagne fan, but I think I could choke it down!! hahaha That picture of you and Gabe cracks me up. I may have it framed. hehe
Cheryl, Welcome to our thread!!
It's so nice to see you here!! I had the same traffic. OMgosh it took me forever to get home. I was in that same 25 minute stop. You had such a long day. I'm thrilled that you joined us though!! It's always so nice to see you. I don't think I've ever met anyone with as much energy as you. I'm hoping some of it spills off on me!! haha Please tell me it's contagious!!!
LacrosseMom, Welcome to our thread!!
The ladies here are so supportive and we will all be by your side while you go through treatment. Please pull up a chair and get comfy. You're never alone in our crazy little town. Once you have your treatment plan in place, it does get easier. The beginning part is definitely CRAZY!! Please keep us updated on your progress when you can. Gentle hugs to you!!
QM, I'd love to see a picture of your crocuses and Dutch Iris. I bet they are so pretty!!
Italy, We missed you!! I hope you're able to make our next get together!!
Tomboy, Your garden sounds so nice. I hope you can take a picture to post!! I would love to see it. No apologies necessary dear Tomboy. Remember, this is Crazy Town. Of course we all missed you, but totally understand. I'm sure we will have other get-togethers very soon!!
Sandy, My goodness you're going through a lot on your trip. I hope the remainder is less chaotic!! We want you home in one piece!! Thanks for sharing the pictures. Sending good traveling mojo your way.
Fowlertree, WOW, You've been through so much. I'm so happy you checked in with us. We will all be in your pocket tomorrow!!
My niece that lives down the street had such a difficult time with me losing my hair. Then I had the idea of letting her try on my wigs. I bought one, had two given to me and got another at my local BC support group. I took pictures of her trying them all on. That seemed to help her a bit and she wasn't as upset afterwards. I tried to make it fun for her. The pictures were so adorable.
Sending hugs to rleepac, Gaia, shorfi, Jersey, Tang, Sula, M0mmy, littleblue, Rose, Chloesmom, eggroll, momwriter, Marie, Robin, 7 of 9, Smurfette, PMR and all the rest of the quiet crazies!!
I hope you all had a good holiday for those that celebrate. My mom passed away on Easter day, so it's always a bittersweet holiday for me. But I really did enjoy having my DD spend the night on Saturday with her DH. My son came on Sunday and we all had a great day together.
Sleep well crazies...quiet crazies too!! Thank you all for being here.

I'm living vicariously through the descriptions of the meet-up. Poppy, I'm also struggling with the decision about going back to work - I'm glad you've made yours.

Thank you all so much for your welcome posts. It's so nice to be connected to such kind people who can also completely identify with all the crazy ups and downs of this diagnosis! I wanted to post a quick picture to show you all why my name is lacrossemom! This is my 17 yo son (in white).I am heading to a game tonight. He plays on his high school varsity team and I couldn't be more proud of him. I hope you all have a wonderful day. Port placement for me tomorrow and scans Thursday and Friday! Thanks again for all of the support. I really enjoy reading all of your positive and funny posts!!

Mommyof2, congrats on being de-ported!
Three month checkup went well, everything looks good. The only problem is that my ovaries are not quite shut down all the way yet, so there's not much point to starting the AI right now. We're going to run the test again next month and see if I'm ready then. Thanks to everyone for being in my pocket!

Cubbie- phew! So glad you got that out of the way!
Mommy- Yay for deportation! That's when I really started to feel i was getting somewhere! Joining you in celebration, ππππππππππππππ

The Funny part is I don't know where they are. Definitely F Cancer moment. Good luck to all .
Below is me looking for my prosthetic DD's's . I guess I'll do the barely there cup A look like I use to be. Oh the versatility.
Hang in there.

Glad the apt. went well Cubbie! Did you feel us all in your pocket?
Mommy, happy dance for being deported!
Funthing: you know, that is totally something that could have happened to me...hope you find those girls soon! (and of course I love the pic!)
Well, after the fun of the get together this weekend, spending time in the SoCal sun, and seeing my grandchildren and all, I have fallen a bit into the rabbit hole...part of it is being under the weather: I am fighting a crud of some type. Used that as a reason to stay home from work today, and I am feeling really low despite the lovely spring weather. Lots of resting in bed, not much of anything else other than teetering on the edge of Crazy Town....
Sometimes I wish I had my innocence back...
Sending hugs out to the Crazies!
Octogirl

Octo.. Sorry you are suffering with the crud.. Take it easy and I hope your better soon (( Hugs))
Cubbie.. Great news :-)
Funthing.. I'm.always have trouble with my boob too !! Not long ago I was buying new swimmers, and was in the fitting room at a department store.. Somehow my boob bounced out of my bra and under the door π±

Good evening, crazies! Hope you are well or at least coping.
Sandy, your adventures are remarkable. Hope you have found delicious appetizers or something to carry you through until you hit Paris. My LE therapist would be telling you not to wear your rings for the time being, but you probably already know that!
Fowlertee, you know we are all in your pocket as you get started on the chemo adventure. I'm so sorry to hear about your friend.
Poppy, thank you for posting who was who in your So-Cal picture! I was right about Octo (hair thread), Beppy (you posted a pic a while ago), and sorta right about Molly. (Waving to all of you, including HBCheryl!)
Lacrossemom, I like the picture of your son. I was about to ask if you were a mom who played lacrosse or the mom of a lacrosse player. A few of us here have either teens or grand-teens. My DS is 16 and seems rather happy tonight in spite of a mountain of homework. I think it might have something to do with going to a drugstore after school with two girls. Apparently there was a sale on Easter candy. "And then we stood on the corner eating chocolate eggs and talked for a long time and the wind made my hair all messy." Kind of poetic, if you think about it.
Mommyof2, congrats on your deportation!!! And Cubbie on the clean bill of health!!!!!!!
Funthing, I'm glad you're getting another opinion. As for losing your breast, yeah, I can totally see that happening. I keep looking down to be sure everything is um, er, somewhere....
Octo, sorry you're dealing with crud of any variety. Feel better soon....
Waving at Beppy, Katy, Proud, Gaia, Sula, Molly, Lucy, Shorfi, Pennsygal, Queen, Italy, Jersey, DUCKY (where are you??), Tomboy, Jan, and all Crazies who are noisy or quiet or somewhere in between.

Funthing, it's a good thing I'm just going flat, because I would totally lose prosthetics. Part of the reason I got LASIK was because I was always losing my glasses. I can just imagine the places my boobs would be turning up.
Lucy, I have this image of you sneaking a hand under the door to snatch your boob back!
Octo, I hope you feel better soon. The crud is definitely going around, one last time before spring really starts. I had it a couple weekends ago
Waving to all the Crazies...I need to catch up!

Hi all you crazies. Duckyb, missing you. I hope the shore was a good time. Jan, I hope you are doing better. Funthing, I hope you find your breasts soon. Lucy, thanks for the chuckle. I had a wonderful birthday today. A work friend brought me a slice of cake from her favorite bakery. We had a fun employee event and my DS's GF bought dinner so I didn't have to cook. Cubbie, glad your appointment went well. Love to all.
0 -
Cubbie, That is good news!
Mommy, You will feel so much better now that you've been deported!
Lacrosse, Love the picture. I didn't know they wore helmets when play.
LOL I know I would loose my boobs if they weren't still attached to me. Your stories cracked me up. Thanks for bringing me a brief reprieve from the hole I find myself in.
Octo, I think we fell down the same hole.... or maybe neighboring holes. I didn't get out of bed until 1:30pm today... and that was because my carpool pickups start at 2! Octo, you just came home from traveling... part of it work, and much of it fun. I'm sure seeing the grandkids and us SoCal crazies was a fun distraction. I know I get down after I come home from some adventure and have to settle into regular life. Could this be part of what has you down? Hopeful you won't be down too long. I have a bit of the crud, too. It seems something is going around.
Have you ladies noticed how smart and insightful the people in CT are? I have. Love Octo's comment about wanting her innocence back. And Rainy's finding the poetry in her son's words. You all amaze me!
