Iris, That sounds like pretty good news. I hate it when a doctor I like closes their practice and moves away.

Smurfette, visiting Australia is my dream trip! While I realize it is winter there, I never pictured a kangaroo in the snow.

    Moose at the beach! LOL

Eli could get away with almost anything with his animated, beautiful little face!

I'm definitely in crazy town and it doesn't have anything to do with cancer this time! My middle son, who just turned 17, had another accident today. It's only been four months since the previous accident. A car in front of him was slowing to make a right turn, and our son didn't make it all the way around the car. He hit the side of the back bumper with the side of the front of our car. No injuries to either party, thank God. But the other car is totaled and our car needs major repairs. I'm glad he's OK, but this accident is clearly his fault. I guess he didn't learn from his first accident. Our insurance just for him will go up to over $3400 per year for a period of three years. As far as I'm concerned, he doesn't need to drive anymore. My husband is being reasonable and taking into consideration that this kid will need a car to drive to college. Also, this will greatly inconvenienced me. Grrrrr!

oooops, crap, Poppy, sorry, that hurt$$$$$$, darn it. I am glad he's okay, but he needs a skirt of curb feelers on his car, or one of those that automatically brake.

Both babies are making me wistful that I didn't have any....

Happy birthday to Wyatt! Great job, Molly!

I haven't had time to do much research on P.F, so thank you, chi. I do wear flats almost exclusively, so that has got to be the problem. Pain doc has been calling, he wants to put a needle full of something in my heel. I'm afraid he will break the needle off in there and then I will really be in trouble!! Does that seem like over exuberance on his part??? I tried the tennis ball thingy, for about 5 days, every time I sat down, no help. That's why I don't think it's that. Plus I think he told me to stay off it for two days after that, can't do that. too much to do.

Brrrr, Smurfette! Lovely photo, I never thought to see a kangaroo in the snow.

I guess I won’t grumble about Gordy’s Uber habit. He took driver ed one summer (his private school didn’t offer it) and hated every second. He let his learner’s permit expire...on purpose. Good thing we live close to rapid transit.

This was 30 years ago but one of my favorite pictures of my son..

Spaghetti seems to be the theme, so I thought I would chime in.

Gma, how sweet! I love those photos! I think most of us have one of at least one of our kiddos. Smurfette, thanks for asking. Wyatt had an OK birthday yesterday. He felt well enough to open his cards in the evening at least. Tonight we have a group of teens from church coming to celebrate with him. So day 3 of celebrating our young man!

Molly.....was suppose to watch Lila today for 5 hours......both Mom and Dad had to work and I was elected to watch her.............well her Mom went to leave and could not find her car keys.......looked for them for 1 1/2 hours.....finally gve up and said she would stay home......

Just asked her if she ever found them.........she said yes about 1/2 hour ago......in the bottom of the trash can in the kitchen.............I said "you never looked there"....she said "it has a lid on it so I figured she wouldn't put them in there"............QUESTION:...........don't most of those trash can types have a door that slides open......

Well Lila threw them in the upstairs can, and her Mom emptied it into the downstairs can.........go figure..........YOUTH.................I would have checked the "big can" regardless of lid or not...........

Toddlers LOVE to throw things off counters, tables or high chair trays--keys seem to be among their favorite projectiles. When Gordy was born, my voice teacher gave me a “Restaurant Survival Kit" that included a sippy cup, sturdy vinyl pocketed bib, Sassy Seat, plastic bowl; and teething ring, loop-handled spork, and plastic toy key ring, each tethered to a good strong shoelace for tying on to the high chair tray supports--so that a baby could throw them to his heart's delight and then just reel them back in and repeat--nobody had to pick them up off the floor (or anywhere else they didn't belong).

Had my wound check at the derm's office today. She is delighted with my progress and says I needn't refill my antibiotic. She took a photo which showed kind of a gross looking scab surrounded by peeling skin, but she assured me that was taken on “macro" and was far smaller than it appeared on the camera's screen. She said I can stop using band-aids and Hibiclens when the scab falls off--and I am free to go swimming as long as I use a waterproof bandage or cover it with a Tegaderm. She also cleared me to get massages, so long as I tell the masseuse to be very gentle with the right upper back. She also complimented me on not having any visible sun damage and quizzed me on all the products I'm using--and was very surprised I'm not using any retinol. I have to return in 6 months for another full-body skin check; she said “it wasn't melanoma, but the path lab said it was getting pretty close." So I bought a big floppy hat and stocked up on Alba Botanica SPF 45 at Whole Foods--on sale for five bucks a tube. Now each of us has our own, plus one for the suitcase. (Good luck convincing Bob or Gordy--especially at Lollapalooza or the Taste of Chicago--to use it).

Lovely pic Gma. Does he still have that beautiful thick, dark hair?

Ha ha Ducky. Lila is mischievous.

Glad you got a good report from the Dermatologist Sandy. Hope your "boys" use that sunscreen. As we say in Australia, "there is no such thing as a safe tan".

One of the lead articles in Allure magazine is “How to Be Italian at the Beach.” It extols the tan, saying all Italians seem to sport glorious tans and pity we palefaced tourists...but a little asterisk mentions the risk of skin cancer as an afterthought. I didn’t know that half of all Americans will have developed skin cancer by age 65! The article then goes on to suggest getting a good fake tan and rocking it by wearing white and showing some skin. How about we stop holding up the image of a suntan as the ideal, and instead convey no value judgement whatsoever on the color (natural or tweaked) of a person’s skin? In three weeks I’ll be in Italy, and I have no intention of going out in the sun unprotected. Sorry, beauty and fashion arbiters, if I seem like a party pooper from the Church of No Fun, but at least I’m doing my best to keep my future dermatologist visits mere checkups.

Yes he still has the dark thick hair but starting to get some grey now. The picture is about 3 years old. I'm not on my good computer.

Tomboy, I had the shot in my heel about 4-6 months ago. It is slightly uncomfortable but the relief was well worth it. My PF has returned and I would love another shot. If they are like spinal injections, (3 in a year, 6 in a lifetime).I don't want to over use them.

Yes, Smurfette. My daughter tries to do a photo-shoot every year when she stays with my son in the summer. This year my son only gets 3 weeks, so I can't take her for a week and go stay at my daughters for GD to play with her cousins. Being he only has 3 weeks this year to enjoy her - I won't take extra time with her. I won't do that to him.

GD is turning 16 in October and being my son never sees her for her birthday - he is throwing her a surprise Pre-16 birthday party here! He invited all of his friends for lazer tag and pizza. I hate divorces - it has been 10 years since we have seen her on her birthday. He only gets her for part of the summer.

I have today and tomorrow to visit with her then back to the grind and heading home Sunday. So far, she has talked my ear off and has made a necklace and worked on her story she is writing. It has been fun just listening to her trying to tell me everything that has happened to her this year and compress it into 3 days.. Life is so unfair sometimes, but I am glad that we get to see her, knowing a lot of grandparents don't have that advantage with their grands.

Hi all! Duckie Lila has the most wonderful eyes. She is gorgeous. Gma your son is a movie star. Have lots of fun. I just started letrozole a few months ago. It may or may not be kicking my ass. I am still getting over treatment. I have two more Herceptins to go! Chi Sandy I love your view on tanning. I grew up putting on baby oil with iodine mixed in it for additional color...when I was young the only sun block was Sea And Ski. Remember those days

Last night the teen group from our church came to celebrate Wyatt's birthday. Most of these kids have known him their entire lives. They range from 13 to 17 years old. They brought cake, a hot wheels race track to play with but mostly their love for our young man. I have not seen Wyatt this happy or excited in a long time. We rarely get to take him anywhere due to his health so to have an evening when he's awake, alert and HAPPY is more precious than anything else in the mortal world.

Molly, What a beautiful story about Wyatt's birthday. I'm so impressed that teenagers would do something so kind as to give him a wonderful birthday party. And so happy that Wyatt was awake and alert for all the fun. Thanks for sharing.

Molly, Wyatt is a handsome young man, and so blessed to have a caring circle of friends & family. You can see the love in his eyes.

Fraidycat, you and your grandson make a great pair!

Also concerned we haven’t heard from Beppy, but whatever else she’s going through, she’s probably still resting up after that cross-country odyssey.

AAAARGH, Iris! Why does everything worrisome (medical, financial, mechanical) have to happen on a Friday--especially just before a holiday weekend! Ditch that Bloody Mary--have some fresh tomatoes and basil, celery sticks....and the best damn vodka you can afford, STRAIGHT UP.

Nice shot with the grandson Fraidy!

PTS, horrid timing before the long weekend! A bloody Mary definitely sounds like a good idea. Please keep us posted.

Chiming in to say Molly, thanks so much for letting us share in Wyatt's birthday. What a sweet boy!

And thanks to all who've posted photos of loved ones, babies and otherwise!

Iris, I'm with Sandy on the Bloody Mary. Wretched to have to wait out the long weekend. Have you considered an IV infusion as the most efficient method of imbibing it? We're having the same storms as you are. Probably all my fault because of having watered the plants this morning. Poor things are drowning now, but I did have home-grown cucumbers for lunch and supper, snatching them from the jaws of the squirrels.

Poppy, I feel your pain about teen boy/car. I think we're going to wait a year on the learner's permit. Just too hard in the city.

Found blueberries on special and bought out the store, so there is pie in store this weekend. Happy 4th to all!
