Jan and Molly....I used to have horrible headaches....treated unsuccessfully by neurologist, research everything and read about ALPHA Stim 100....talked my PCP into a RX for it and got it and with in weeks was cured....and whenever I did get a headache....within 60 min. of using my Alpha Stim I am "fixed".

Molly sorry about Wyatt being "sick"....I admire you for being with Wyatt as long as you can.

I had a cousin that had a physical disability (CP)....my aunt and uncle gave up on him....and put him in an state institution.....I was so sad...

Finally over the flu....lasted about 25 days.

My Osteoporosis is bad....went to Ortho. Dr (who has given me spinal injection in the past where I have had L4-5 laminectomy years ago)....now the pain is in upper back and he x-rayed me and I am bone to bone in some places, but with my BC history, he also ordered a bone scan which I will have on Friday. I don't know if he saw something I did not see. Worried!

Iris....sorry your cancer spread....second opinion sounds in order...sending you GIANT hugs!

    Scared

Sandy glad to read your vocals are okay!

Lucy....sounds HOT HOT HOT where you are.

QMC....glad to read your courses are fun!......I would go back to a nearby community college in a heartbeat, if Severe sepsis did not rob me of some of my brain cells last year!

Robin....the puppies and pandas pics are too cute.... I want to pick up the ONE awake panda that is crying!!!

    Hugs to everyone!

Lucy! How wonderful and generous you are! I think Queensland is about where they hope to go. Headaches are better. If they start up again when the rain comes end of the week then I will know it's weather related. Sandy, sorry about your friend.

Morning all, next the days I go to gym I seem to have more pain in my abdomin than on my off days. We'll

Today is an off day and hanging out to do some chores. Sides my onco office is supposed to call me as they were looking into financial aid. I did get call from United health care that they are giving me a grant of 5000, not clear if that is towards total cost of drug or towards my co pay. Doing my best to pull out my pushy sales side. Have to say that when I was first diagnosed I was terrified that I would end up in bankruptcy. Well it did not happen as i just tightened my belt.

Octo...spoke to my Boston sister, the other day she said snow was not bad as the plow man only needed to do her driveway once. New England folks just know how to deal with lots of white stuff so enjoy your Boston trip.

Morning, got call from insurance, seems i have been approved for a grant that covers my co pay. Since this person said my copay was 1320 and this will cover that. Wow, it takes a load off. Starting on the 5mg and then moving up to 10 MG. Dang but all this makes me really tired.

Lucy, hope your BS appointment went well (Wait, it's morning here, so night there so the appointment was this morning? Or tomorrow? My brain hurts!) Anyway, I hope all the news is good--or basically, that there is no news at all!

Stayed inside all week since the snow finally stopped on Sunday and there was lots of ice on sidewalks. On top of it, with all the shoveling my hubby and I did we both caught colds. Feeling vastly improved and the issue with the car is finally over

Softer stuff is best until the diverticulitis (inflammatory) calms down and goes back to being just diverticulosis. It’s wise to avoid foods with tiny seeds that could get stuck in the diverticuli (until Bob had his hemicolectomy—the section of colon that was perforated during a botched ‘scope and had to be removed also had all the diverticuli—he had to avoid berries & popcorn, and have me scoop out the seeds from tomatoes) and cause them to inflame again.

Di, that was a bone, not a bone-density scan, right? The latter is truly a PITA, since you have to lay still for 30-45 min. so the camera scans your entire skeleton. I had one in 2004 when I had a suspicious hip fracture—in fact, a chunk broke off—to rule out bone cancer, since I was not yet in menopause and therefore too young for osteoporosis. The orthopedist remarked that the spot "lit up," but appeared to be a pattern indicating inflammation. The weekend between the scan on Friday and the results on Monday was one of the longest of my life. On Mon. the results were “benign, definite inflammation secondary to prior bone harvest for tibial plateau surgery". (IOTW, the surgeon who harvested bone from my iliac crest to repair my shattered leg in 1996 dug a little too deep and the crest eventually snapped off). The baseline density scan I had before starting rads was a piece of cake by comparison.

    ChiSandy,

This was a BONE SCAN today,...had a dexa scan in Dec that showed continued osteoporosis...no improvement.....I have lost 1 3/4" of height....I am 5' 1/4" now....that is always a SIMPLE scan.....quicker than a "drive thru"

My bone scan was a hour and 15 minute...full body and then 2 other scans, one was lumbar to thorax, last one was the longest and instead of going in and out.....it went all around me 360 degrees.

What is a tibial plateau surgery....Lower leg.....and then what?

Di, I was hit by a car while crossing a street, and that shattered my right tibial plateau, or the top of my tibia/bottom surface of my knee joint. Also broke a few inches below that. In order to save that leg, they had to do an “open reduction/internal fixation:” an incision is made from just above the knee down to mid-shin, the broken pieces are arranged roughly where they’d been before the impact, and put back together with a rod, plate and screws. If too much of the bone has been damaged for the screws to take hold, they harvest bone from the iliac crest (the pointy part of the pelvis above the hip joint socket) and mix it with orthopedic surgery epoxy to re-sculpt the bone fragments, ground-up harvested iliac bone and epoxy into the shape of a tibia; then when set they install the hardware. Most people can get the hardware removed after a year or two—for me, it’s permanent because the fracture was so bad there wasn’t enough natural bone to “knit” together and function as a tibia if the hardware was removed. When I had to have my R knee replaced, the tibial plateau beneath it had already deteriorated since the surgery, so the surgeon had to remove the top two screws and use a prosthesis with a “tall tray."

Gee, i confess that with my crappie balance, i walk really slow, course the cane is a give away but concerned about falls. Also refused an invite to lunch at a paneros as the location would mean I had to walk across a driveway where cars just wiz by with no stopping.

Back is crappie today so doing the old heating pad thing, I overdid the treadmill the other day

Finally got all the approvals set for the grant and got a letter with info yesterday. Interesting as it is funded by Susan kolman. Used to be a woman on here who hated that org because she thought they were wasting all the money and not focusing on a cure. Well, now I know what they do with some of their FUNDS.

SJK has been shamed over the past few years into spending less on promo & admin expenses relative to patient services & research…and BCO has probably been instrumental in that.

Good grief Sandy....humpty Dumpty leg!....OMG that must have been horrible being hit by a car! I hope your leg is okay and you were well compensated by the driver, or their insurance.

Susan Komen corporation, thank you for the grant for Iris....this is the first time I have heard of them giving anything to an individual, I know that gave a small donation of $5000 to Fred Hutch, the local cancer research but does NOT compare to the millions they bring in and what they pay they pay their top "dogs"

Is it Monday yet?......I want to know the results of my bone scan!

The guy who hit me had only $50K worth of personal liability coverage. His lawyer stalled and contested the amount of my complaint, even suggesting I had deliberately walked into the car! Then he took my deposition; the next day, he offered policy limits minus 10%, contending that was the amount of my contributory negligence for wearing all black after sunset. (Those of you who’ve seen me know I am quite pale with light blonde hair). So we took the $45K settlement, upon which my underinsured-motorist coverage “stacked” an equal amount. Some of that went to Rush Medical Center (which owned my HMO at the time), less the proportion representing my premiums. 30% went to my attorney instead of the 1/3 I’d have had to pay had we started trial or the 40% if we went to verdict. I ended up having enough left over to make my first CD (which these days would have taken only half of what it cost back then).

NOTE to SELF: so much about wearing a little black dress out after dark!!! CRAZY!!!!! Sounds like a horrible situation with insurance and of course your horrible injury.

    Sad

What’s even crazier is the notion I shouldn’t have worn black pants & coat to work that morning and should have changed into light-colored stuff when I got home to take Gordy to his bass lesson around sunset. (Now, of course, I change out of black stuff to keep white cat hair off it…)

sandy, that is crazy about blaming you for wearing green black, course I do u derstand changing out of black when you are around the cat. I had a white cat for years and always had cat hair on me it seemed.

Today is gorgeous and a perfect day to drive out to the coast for some seafood and ocean watching

    Later all,
