Molly, Keflex didn’t affect my sense of taste but it sure smelled awful every time I opened the bottle. Here’s hoping you won’t need a repeat course of it.
I’m wishing I had the wall space for an oven, but without tearing up and completely changing my kitchen layout, when my 20-yr-old inexpensive GE 30” slide-in gas range bit the dust I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a GE Profile pro-style: 5 burners (center one is oval with a griddle atop it, which I can remove if I want to keep two small pots cooking at the same temp while I actively use the other four burners), one super-high and one high-power. Regular oven, and where my old one had a bottom drawer there is a second “warming oven” that goes up to 400 degrees, so I bake in it more often than I do the main oven.

My tumor was first spotted as a “focal asymmetry” on a routine annual screening mammo. Followup was a diagnostic “spot compression” (close-up) mammo and then ultrasound, which led to the core-needle biopsy that diagnosed it. Just had my 18-month “cancer-versary.” I see my MO and BS (or her NP) every 6 months, with an annual bilateral mammo and semiannual R breast mammo coinciding with my BS visits. I have mostly fatty breasts, so that any anomalies are easily seen on a mammo. Therefore, the only ultrasounds I’ve had on my breast were the diagnostic one and those to guide first my core-needle biopsy (with marker-clip placement) and then the radioactive locator seed implantation on the day of surgery. (I didn’t have a wire localization). Never had a breast MRI.

I think I had two MRIs-- once at the start of everything (and chemo, which I had neoadjuvent), and once around surgery--about 5 months later... I don't think I've had any since.
My MO said it might be good to have one as a screening type test... that or an ultrasound.
My BS said my scar would make it difficult for an MRI to work on my breast!
There have also been studies that say it might be better to cut back on MRIs due to cumulative effects... but the jury is still out on that.
So... hmm... !

I do ultrasounds with the mammograms, five years post menopause I am still 50% dense. Have done annual MRIs, but starting to worry about the contrast issue. Insurance hasn't denied any ultrasounds, and since they seem to cause the least harm, it's an extra comfort level for me.
They don't deny the MRI either, but like I said, starting to worry about getting MRIs.

I had bilateral mammos every 6 months for the first 18 months. I "failed" my first post-surgery mammogram, so I had a US to find out what the areas of concern were. (They were scar tissue from the surgery and cysts.) Since I failed my most recent mammogram, and they weren't able to get a good sample during my subsequent stereotactic biopsy... I'm scheduled for an excisional biopsy next week. So... I'm back to the every 6 months. My doctors have never suggested a breast MRI.

I wonder why the breast center I go to isn't into giving ultrasounds in addition to mammograms...??? I'm a little worried because of the whole dense-breast/mammo not finding tumor thing!!!
And there seems to be quite a variation in screening tests and their schedule... Even during bc treatment it seemed to vary quite a bit--who got MRIs and PETs and what and when...
Of course, false-positives are a big reason why some people recommend LESS tests. But after having cancer once, I think I'd rather be tested and biopsied than sorry! Although, PoppyK, those failed tests sound horrific! Best wishes on the up-coming biopsy.

I've had multiple breast MRIs, brain MRI, mammograms, bone scan and ultrasounds. Not sure how my doctor gets everything approved, but she does. I also had a pet scan post surgery before chemo for staging purposes, but a second pet scan was denied. There appears to be no set course of monitoring, I guess it is whatever the doctor deems necessary and can get approved. All tests were scary, but so far, so good.

I had both MRI and u/s at diagnosis but not since. All of the mammograms (every six months) have been 3D, however, which my MO insists upon and which so far at least insurance has approved...

I get a mammo and 6 months later an MRI, every year. This is due to dense breasts. Mammo did not pick up my tumor even after I had the biopsy clips in. Could not even find one set of clips from second biopsy site. My breast surgeon did this for 2.5 years then discontinued it. When I switched my care to CTCA, my new MO wanted MRI back in.
Areyoudense.org was a great place to learn about breast density. I worked with them to get legislation passed here in AZ. Only the notification piece as of now. In my home state of CT, the doctors have to inform women of their breast density. This enables them to make different/other/extra choices in their screenings, which insurance is required to cover.
Love to all my crazies...

Celia, I wonder how/if they do mammograms after DBMX? My BS said I'd get one every 6 months for a few years but I no longer believe everything she says any more. I'll be finding a new BS if I need to. To many wrong things have come out of her mouth in the past year.
Sandy, my PCP skipped over my regular mammo and requested a diagnostic mammo when I got cellulitis on my right breast. I'm glad he did or l'd have had to make another trip. I wanted to get a GE Profile pro style like yours but my DH said it would be like parking a Bentley in a garage that's falling down. So, I ended up with the same old, same old simple stove. Bummer
April, I haven't had a breast MRI at all during my one year journey with BC. I feel left out. I've wondered about who gets what and why and how it's decided.
Italy, my breast were very dense and was the leading factor in my decision to have a DBMX. I had a PET scan done before any of my treatments started and I was told I'd get one once treatment ends. I agree all tests are scary and waiting for the results is even worse.
Hugs to All 🤗

Hi April! Nice to see you post. I wonder after bilateral implants what surveillance will be recommended. I would love annual ultrasound if possible. I really hate contrast but occasionally MRI might be recommended. Since I have a genetic mutation I believe some sort of surveillance will be recommended by my BS.
Sandy, if I ever get my kitchen remodeled I want a wall double oven a separate cook top second time choice a slide in. I have a house built in 1918 and no practical layout for stove, refrigerator, microwave etc and still have counter and storage space.

my last mamo had a note at the bottom saying i did not have dense breasts, i read somewhere that as we age are breast tissue looses density. I remember years ago that i was told i had dense breasts so guess that is true

I. Have an annual 3-D mammogram on my remaining breast , and ultrasound across both sides ..My first annual went of smoothly , just a couple of tiny cysts ..Last years showed a new lump which was biopsied and was benign..a fibroadenoma...I had a hemotoma after the biopsy so hoping that there isn't a change there that will cause me extra testing this year .??.Anyone had any experience with that ??
After diagnosis I had a full body CT scan , ultrasound and bone scan ..but have not had a MRI.
Poppy ..Thinking of you for the 29th ..
It's birthday party day here for my 2 year old grandson ..and 2 day early party for Hubby's ..So I better get out of bed and get to work. !!!
The last few days I have felt very .. nostalgic..I suppose that's what you'd call it ..Thinking of my parents , and all the people I have known and loved that are gone ..Morbid ay ..It's making me depressed ..I need to shake it off ...

I don't have a hematoma but I do still have a seroma and they can identify it as a seroma, so maybe a hematoma is identifiable too.

Happy birthday to your DGS and DH, Lucy!!

WenchLori - Good question about mammos after DBMX - what's left to mammo? Re: Dense breasts - guess mine are as that what they said when called me for 2nd mammo & ultrasound, but they also said this a number of years ago when I got called in for a 2nd mammo, which found nothing and then went a number of years with just normal mammos before the one in 2016 where they found the BC.
How is your skin doing? Hopefully better. FYI - according to Google, you are about 1 hr 45 mins from the Indianapolis Museum of Art. Hoping to hear from Ruby in Fishers about getting together sometime. Would make a fun getaway & I would probably stay overnight somewhere.

Hi there, Molly50 ! It's nice to be able to pop back in these forums and see how people are doing.
I hadn't thought about mammos for MX folk! I have no idea...
I still have most of my breasts! My right is a bit smaller and raised up a bit (tumor was at 12 o'clock). I still have an encapsulated seroma at the location after about 2 years... but it doesn't hurt or anything and is probably adding a tad of mass back in that breast, so I'm not going to complain... None of my doctors ever mention it when examining me.
Weird how varied the tests are... So I guess it's not odd that I'm not getting any US along with my mammograms? Although it still worries me that my sister gets both mammos and US (and I don't) and she hasn't had BS--but of course, being related to me, she's at a bit more risk, so I'm glad she's getting them. I'm wondering if I should be pushing harder for ultrasounds? Or MRIs? Hmm. You know, I pretty much just want to be happy about the mammograms being clear so far and just get out of the docor's office! --But the part about mammograms not catching my tumor makes me worried.
I'm getting Digital Mammograms. Is that the same as 3D mammograms?

ChiSandy, thanks for the great info. I've been popping ibuprofen like crazy and aspirin. Lately having pain that feels like I'm ovulating. I'm a menopausal woman according to bloodwork going back three years. And then there's all the fake arthritis from the AI's. OB/GYN said everything feels ok based on a physical exam. Of course my ovary felt fine that day! When I got home it was throbbing again, probably from the exam. He's very happy to do a hysterectomy if I want one. But he won't do an ultrasound. I would really like to see what the heck is going on in there. Oh well. I figure whatever is going on will either resolve or cripple me again as it did last month and then I'll just go to the ER. Maybe it's a kidney stone. Trying not to overdo it on Tylenol. Pretty sure it's my ovary because I am also having cravings for sweets, and tea and cozy blankets. NESTING at 51. Man!
Everyone else thanks for the nice greetings. I don't know how you do it, being so gracious to everyone on the board and remembering the threads. Maybe a few more weeks of destressing I will be able to be more ambassadorial.
I used to have very dense breasts, in just one year they are now only "scattered" density. It is nice to see the mammogram and you don't have to wonder too much if bad news is buried in there. I am finally feeling like cancer is behind me except when my ovary starts kicking up again like now. I only have one thank goodness, other one was destroyed by a cyst when I was 18. Sometimes I wonder if that wasn't when all my hormone troubles began!
Spring is here! I'm so happy! Anyone in Washington near Gig Harbor, Kitsap County, Belfair, Allyn?

I'm 18 months out and have been having a mammo on my remaining breast and bilateral ultra sounds every 6 months. Had them done earlier in the month and have now been moved to 12 monthly.
Sandy I just noticed the date of your diagnosis. I had my biopsy on the same day and was told then and there that they were certain it was cancer. (9/9/2015) Didn't get the official call with the biopsy pathology until 3 days later, the 12th.
Molly hope your healing is going well.
Ducky LOL at your swim wear fail. Knew there was a reason I don't get on water slides.
Hugs all.

Have you had an ultrasound for that ovarian pain? Sometimes, pain down there can be torsion or stretching of the “round ligament” that helps support the uterus. If low enough it can be an iliopsoas (the body’s longest muscle) strain, which can mimic a groin pull or hernia (the latter should also be ruled out—when it hurts, can you palpate anything?). But a more common reason is referred pain from the colon: either diverticular disease, constipation or both.

I feel like this is where I am right now..lol anyone still around on here ?

Bikermama: yes, we're here though a little quiet these days....but the crazy never quite goes away. Freaking out around the time of your annual mammogram is understandable! When will you be able to schedule the recommended ultrasound?
