I am doing well so far. I am home in my recliner with specific instructions to lift NOTHING. Anesthesiologist use bilateral pain blocker because I am very sensitive to pain meds especially morphine and dilaudid.

Well I survived my colonoscopy. I had one tiny polyp, so I guess they want me back in 5 years. I also did the endoscopy of my throat at the same time. Visually he said I had Barrett's, but I got the biopsy results back with only one word: "Normal." What in the world? They do these fancy tests and don't explain much. Waiting for a call back . . .

I love working part-time, in addition to writing for one client, I've been doing some substitute teaching and just love it. One day I'm a librarian, the next I'm a math teacher... yesterday was special ed preschool. Our boat anchor rentals also sold! Life is getting simpler. But now family is coming out of the woodwork with their problems. My nephew just got released out of jail homeless in Alaska, my sister has bed bugs, my brother's stomach is hurting him (did I tell you I found out he has schizophrenia? And two points too high of an IQ for developmental disability services? Oy vey!) A young colleague of mine, she has been like a surrogate daughter, has rectal cancer and two little boys just 4 and 2. My heart is broken. And now taxes, I owe a lot! OMG. But life is good, just trying to stay in the moment and remember not to take anything for granted. Hard to believe 15 months ago I was having a meltdown over radiation treatments and found this lovely forum. Every time I see the original post, I can't help but think about Ducky, and it's a reminder not to let worry steal any more time from us if we can help it. Maybe time to move to some tropical location and leave no forwarding address or phone number?

Molly, I'm so happy to hear you're doing well. Relax and let the world take care of itself!

Eggroll, I happy to hear your colonoscopy was normal.

My RO said only 7 more treatments to go instead of 13! He was thinking a lumpectomy which is 33 treatments. I told him that I have these beautiful matching scars that run from one side to the other on each of my Foobs and you didn't notice them? I think they counted wrong as my calendar shows I have 9 more treatments, they must have the wrong start date plus 3/10 treatment was canceled and needs to be made up. I'll take my calendar with me in the morning so we can both get on the same page. So much work making sure the cancer teams are doing their work 😳

    Hello to everyone!

Eggroll ..So glad your colonoscopy went well ..Sad to hear about your nephew , and terrible news about your friend ..She must be so worried about her little boys ..

Lori ..Gosh ..It does sound like a full time job for you organising your cancer team. !!! Hopefully you can bring them up todate tomorrow and then they stay on track !!! Honestly if it wasn't so serious you'd have to laugh !!!

Molly ..Thinking of you and hoping you are feeling comfortable ..I can't take any of the big gun pain killers either ...So pain relief is always an issue for me too .

Molly, did you get those “pain balls" they usually use for joint replacement surgeries, that release local anesthesia directly into the operated area(s)? They are wonderful, and drastically reduce or eliminate the need for opioids. Rest up!

Eggroll, an endoscopy can often show stomach or esophageal erosive “lesions." In the case of the esophagus, if those erosions are extensive, it can be diagnosed as Barrett's esophagitis. Erosions are caused by long-term irritation or inflammation (especially heavy NSAID use) and can even bleed. The biopsy is done to rule out the presence of anything neoplastic (pre-cancerous or malignant). So you can still have erosions, but the biopsy can come back “negative." That doesn't mean you don't have those erosions or irritations—it means that's all they are, not cancer or precancer.

My first two upper GI endoscopies showed erosive lesions—the first routine one in 2011 showed one in my stomach; the second in 2013, done to rule out an intestinal malignancy causing the bleeding that made me anemic despite normal iron levels, found one each “of probable chemical origin” (NSAID use for pain control after weaning off opioids and reducing acetaminophen after my 2012 knee replacement). All were biopsied, and all found no tumors either malignant or benign. After the 2013 endo, I stopped taking Aleve. Problem solved—no longer anemic.

I am doing well. Really laying low and following PS instructions of 0 lifting lol. I am sore but it's manageable. I hate sleeping, it's just uncomfortable but I remind myself that I had bilateral surgery and I don't want problems.

Awww, what a cutie! Continue to rest—and if you fall asleep it’s because you need it to heal. If you’re going to snack, make sure it has protein for healing. (Whatever else is in there too—comfort is key during early post-op recovery and comfort food is a good idea).

Molly, Adorable picture! Minecraft cake, too! Rest up and take it easy. You've gone through a lot to get to this point, so listen to the doctors for good results and a non-eventful recovery.

    Hugs to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know if this has happened to anyone else but I feel as if I am the only one that this has happened to. My hubby knows that I have wanted to see Phantom of the Opera for a very long time. Last Fall it was announced by our local theater (where we have seen a couple of concerts and where my graduation ceremony was held when I graduated from the local community college) that Phantom was going to be coming there sometime this Fall. So I have been checking off and on now for a few months to see if they had the dates finally set for when it was going to be showing there with no results. Last night I checked again and I saw that one of the days it will be showing is on my birthday. Well I was surprised and I said "Holy Cow! Phantom of the Opera will be showing on my birthday!" My hubby said he wondered how much the tickets were going to be and so I went to check and found that they were not on sale yet. So when I told him, he didn't say nothing and I felt like I was getting the big brush off about something nice he could do for me on my birthday. I didn't say a word to him and left the room to put dinner away and then to go do other things. The whole time the resentment just kept building and I kept muttering to myself silently over the whole thing. So when I finally went to sit down he looked right at me and asked if there was something wrong. My response was "Nope! Why should there be?" He kept pushing until I blew up and told him exactly what was wrong. So needless to say I feel as if

Molly, so adorable! I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that someone in the house has Irish heritage? Glad you're laying low and healing.

Lucy, have fun with the 2 year old party. And the cooking!

I took my mother to the urologist this week, but my sister gets to take her to the gyn. So glad to have siblings... Almost the weekend!

rainny, yes strong Irish background on my dad's side of the family! We have a bakery here that makes amazing cakes. Unfortunately my kids have no interest in learning how to cook or bake. I don't understand why. Doing my best to eat well but between abx taste in my mouth and post anesthesia constipation it's hard to eat anything. I am working on the constipation part, I know how to fix that but can't avoid the awful taste of keflex. Hugs to everyone. Rainny, I hope the gyn appointment goes well. Iris enjoy your new toys. My oldest wants to buy me a new range for my birthday. I am passing time looking for reasonable prices on gas double ovens.

    Hi, all!

I'm wondering if anyone is getting US or MRIs along with mammograms?

My sister--who hasn't had BC, says she always gets both a mammogram and ultrasound every year because of dense breasts. I have dense breasts, too. Plus--my 3cm tumor was not found by mammogram--I found it by self-examination...

My MO said I probably should get something in addition to mammograms (digital) that my breast center has me doing (unilateral, then bilateral, every 6 months).

I brought it up to the breast center when I was last in for a mammogram. They looked all puzzled and then said the mammograms should be enough... but if I insisted, I could get an US instead of a mammogram in a year when I was due for a bilateral mammogram.

This sounded weird to me. I asked my MO about it (I see him every 3 months). He said to have them call him when I next go in (in a few months). And that sounded weird to me, too!

So now I'm curious about everyone else's schedule and exams for bc, post-treatment...???

I don't see anyone else for post-bc stuff, just my MO since I'm going to be on anastrozole for 10 years. I see him every 3 months. And my BS at the breast center (at Cedars-Sinai, Los Angeles), who schedules the mammograms every 6 months and sees me briefly afterwards to give me the results.

I'm assuming that this goes on for... how many years???

--Hmm. I guess I should talk to my MO a bit more, but you know how they get all busy...

April, I haven't gotten that far yet but I'm interested in hearing about everyone's experience so I know what to look for when the time comes

April - I am also interested in hearing about everyone's experiences w/mammograms after BC. After 1st mammo on 11/7/16 when they saw something suspicious, had 2nd mammo along with ultrasound on 11/18/16 - the ultrasound clearly showed the "spot". Not sure what to expect "next time" and believe they told me that would be in November 2017.
