hmm...in my neck of the woods, May Day is just another day....apparently I have been missing out :-) (and no protestors either, too small of a town...)

omg Iris, that phrase is in my head every May Day! As soon as I saw it was May 1st, I chanted it in my head, then saw you post it here! You didn't offend me haha!

Iris, it takes a lot to offend me! This is the first time I've heard the May Day poem lol
I had an appointment with my PS this morning and he was floored how soon my skin has healed. There's no sign of any damage to the edges of my incision. He told me I could have my TE exchange the first part of July. It's been a very long year for me so I'm putting exchange surgery off until Fall. I've got a garden to watch grow, a pool to open up, a summer of swimming and healing before moving on to the next step. I just want to be able to breath 😊

Lori, great news! I am glad you are taking your time though.

Hi crazies--
Happy May Day, with all that, er, entails!
Glad you're healing, Lori!
Happy belated birthday, Ducky!
Octo, so glad to hear your sister is improving, and perhaps getting closer to figuring out what the problem is. Scary times. Hope you are doing all right as you wind down at work (you are winding down, yes?).
Molly, thinking of you and Wyatt always.
Eggroll, your post about your neighbor made me laugh. You tell 'em!
QMC, in your pocket for your mammo!
We've been traveling. Went to Haverford (waving out the window the whole time in Pennsylvania in case Ducky was somewhere in the neighborhood). But my DS has finally settled on Williams, in Massachusetts. We visited last week, and DS really liked the atmosphere, the smart, nerdy kids he met, and even the fact that it's kind of out in the middle of nowhere. My DH and I really liked the fact that they gave him a whopping scholarship! Funny, DH and I both had rural childhoods and couldn't wait to grow up and go to the big city. DH has grown up in NYC, so he's really happy about the mountains, the outing club, the nature....
So it's done! So proud of the boy and so relieved that the fiscally sane choice also feels like the best fit school.
Hugs and happy spring to all crazies!

When I was a kid, the NYC public grade schools held “Field Days," with footraces and other athletic skills contests. Of course, I was a fish out of water, never came close to winning a medal (though I was the fastest white kid in the 50-yd. dash). My little sister won a bronze one year for “accuracy throw" (hitting a std. strike zone chalked on the handball wall with a Spaldeen). The day ended with the Maypole dance, which someone invariably screwed up by going over with the ribbon when they should have gone under. I was the culprit one year.
"Protests screwing up" one's day generally depend on whether one agrees or disagrees with the demonstrators. May Day has traditionally, at least in big cities, been a day to march and rally in support of labor. (All organized labor after the McCarthy scandal years, basically to divert attention from the parades' Socialist origins and those parades still held in Communist-bloc countries). The rallies may be bigger and more vocal (actual protests rather than just demonstrations) this year due not just to greater focus on the living-wage movement (especially in the hospitality industry), immigrant rights, but to changes wrought nationwide since Jan. 20. (Not gonna name names or parties on this thread). The other difference is that for practically the first time there are some counter-demonstrations which are extremely vocal as well. And in L.A., over the weekend, it's the anniversary of the Watts riots as well as the riots in the aftermath of the police-acquittal verdict in the Rodney King beating case. (Those latter marches this weekend are surprisingly subdued).
If thine ear offend thee…well, shut the windows, wear earplugs or turn up the music on the office radio.

Great news, rainnyc about your son's college. Glad they had deep financial aid pockets.
Lori - So glad things are working out. Your thanks is most welcome. We still need to think about a possible rendezvous in Indy!

Glad to hear Rainy that your son made his decision.......you should have told me you were coming to the suburbs of Philly, I would have stood on the corner and waved to you........LOL......How far away will he be from your hometown...........goodluck

Rainy....sorry your NY....now how far in miles and time is he from you.........One of my grandaughters is graduating this year.....From Widener University with a Degree in Physical Medicine..then going for her Doctorate.........another grandaughter is going into her senior year at Penn State......a Grandson is going into his 2nd year at University of the Sciences for Pharm D. Research.......and I still have 2 more in high school.....one will be a Senior, the other a Jr.....
The one going to be a Jr. is a pitcher for her High School team, and hoping for a schlorship to college....she is very good...it sure would help.....as you already know its an expense......my Grandson's tuition at University of the Sciences is $50,000 a year, and Widener is $49,000....both got academic money but it doesn't pay for a lot.....yet is still a decent amount of money.....education is not cheap, right.....good luck to your son

Duckyb, no offense from me. I am quite tired of weekly marches, protests etc. Anniversary of the LA riot is a touchy time for those of us who lived through it. I think they handled remembering quite well.

If one is “tired” of others exercising their precious rights of free speech and petitioning redress of grievances…nah, not gonna go there, wrong thread. You never know when you might need to raise your own voice in protest.

Hugs to those who need one today

I have no problem people exercising their rights to free speech, I have problems with the knowledge that opposing views are not welcome. That's as far as I go here. That's why I find this tiresome. I am dropping this and sorry for offending. I am leaving here for a while.

Molly.......I think the "no offense from me", was meant for "Proud".............LOL.........she has the friend with the Potty Mouth.....which is fine, cause my husband use to say to me...."that mouth of yours would put a sailor to shame"........LOL.......but I wanted the right person to get the credit....hahahahah

Molly, don't leave, I agree with you 100%.

Molly - you can't leave. We quiet crazies need your waves. I second Italychick.
This thread has survived being relatively drama free. We are aware of one another's differing views and generally do not go into detail, out of respect for those who may or may not agree with our views. We all have enough crazy going on, hence the thread, and this was our place to come and chat about that. I was under the impression, silly me, that this place called Crazytown was apolitical.
Being tired of, or mentioning protests, is nothing more than that, and to spotlight someone like that, is cruel. It was not mentioned in a political manner, it was a part of a day, a stressful day.
I am able to believe one thing and still empathize with how it may make others feel. We need to be kind to one another, especially here.

Molly, I realize now how precarious life can be for one taking care of a special-needs child of any age, especially when there’s a health crisis. Sorry I didn’t understand the pressure you’re under, and will tread more carefully from now on. Sending healing thoughts for Wyatt and stress-relief for you.

Thank you Sandy. We all need each other here. Each and everyone of us. I love all of you...you all keep me sane.

Not quite in “CrazyTown” myself—more like “NeuroticVille.” Next Friday is my “Annual Medicare Wellness Visit” with my PCP (my MO said that no, my 6-month followup with her didn’t qualify). I have gained at least 10 lbs. since I saw him in July; my fasting glucose and a1c are doubtless creeping upward; and even on the lipid panel I had in July my LDL-C is so bad that my ratio is teetering close to the line between okay and dyslipidemic. (Only my BP and lung peak flow are fine). Back then I asked about statins, and he said we’d revisit it if need be. I fear that not only will I get an admonition (albeit gentle and sympathetic) about my weight, but we will definitely have the “statin talk.”
Bob has always insisted I need one (he put himself on generic Lipitor even though his cholesterol’s always been normal) but the last time I tried it when I was 62 I got thigh-burn while using the exercise bike, so my PCP decided not to take chances and pulled me off it because my Framingham CV event risk score was low. I now know that the “lactic acid muscle burn” is par for the course for anyone starting exercise from a “deconditioned” sedentary state; and now that I’ve crossed the “65 Rubicon” and gone on an AI my CV risk is much higher.
