Crazymaking, indeed, Iris. The fact that Pals were there to help you up was appreciated, I'm sure, but there's still the fact you needed the help. Sigh.

As for my Thanksgiving with friends, the hostess's "gentleman caller" (live-in type) rushed to the hospital yesterday morning with a fever of 103, and disoriented. She's had bad experiences with exactly this scenario (same symptoms, same hospital, similar relationship) which ended poorly indeed. So she got sucked down the rabbit hole, but went ahead with Thanksgiving dinner because houseguests/she'd done 90 of the work already/his grown kids were there to take him to hospital....still!

QMC, your poor friend! I hope her gentleman friend is okay. I got my authorization on Friday when, of course, everyone is closed. Called this morning and after sitting on hold for 15 minutes got a lovely woman that as soon as I said I have a lump on my chest wall and I am a breast cancer patient her tone changed. She has to email her supervisor and get back to me with the earliest appointment. It could take up to 24 hours to get back to me.

Healing thoughts going out to Iris, Molly, and QMC's friend's "co-vivant."

I was feeling okay (other than slightly wrenching my back getting out of the car Sat. night) until last night, when my voice felt a little rough. Fellow castmate yesterday--the lead in several scenes--has lost nearly all her voice. And Gordy has a full-on streaming head cold. Uh-oh. Went to the family shrink today for bi-monthly visit--I asked for a Medrol Dosepak Rx and Baclofen refill to nip the backache & incipient laryngitis in the bud. But his malpractice carrier now will no longer let him prescribe anything outside his specialty. So have to muddle through right now with a Xanax at night with menthol/lidocaine patches. And now I've been prodigiously pooping all day, and am queasy as all get-out. Took a Gas-X, to no avail. Will try some flattened diet ginger ale with a little added grated ginger before I go. Was going to drive until I realized I didn't want to pay to park twice (the Bar Assn. and then the theater), nor have to walk a couple of blocks from & to each garage. So I planned to take the L...until now. I'm in no shape to walk to & from the stations, nor plop myself in among numerous viral vectors--and tonight is our second of three dress rehearsals and then the move to the theater. Will bite the bullet and take an Uber or Lyft--and hope I don't get carsick. Gotta keep it together as best I can. If I can't perform, my scenes get cut and that's not fair to the supporting players.

Wish me luck, fortitude, a clear throat, strong back, and a calm gut. I'll need 'em all tonight.

Feel better, Sandy! Break a leg! I got a call with an appointment for tomorrow! 2:00 pacific time. She said to plan on it taking 1.5 to 2.0 hours! I will get the results the same day. Phew, I will be glad to have this monkey off my back.

Yeah, Thanksgiving Day is certainly in the top five "days you don't want to be admitted to the hospital". Last we heard was that evening: his temperature was down and he was demanding some of the turkey and dressing and PIE...'cause let's be honest, hospital food sucks big time. Friend put her spatula down (in the sense of an ultimatum) and insisted that HIS kids take him to the hospital, thankyouverymuch.

All my crazy's been sucked into settling classes for spring: I'm in the business program at [local community college], and once again I'm taking four computer classes. Go figure.

(apologies for crossposting) Hurray, Molly! So glad you got a prompt appointment but more importantly someone who understands "I'm a breast cancer survivor and I've just found a lump on my breast."

ChiSandy: break a leg indeed. You've probably already gone offline prior to your performance/commute therein, but know (after the fact) that my thoughts are (also) with you tonight....I am SO glad you were able to come back to this Bar Association production after being forced to withdraw two years ago due to uncertainty about your treatment.

I echo the others: be well and break a leg, Sandy!

Molly, so glad you got a quick apt. In your pocket, and please keep us posted.

My Thanksgiving break was lovely; even managed a little bit of walking on the new knee, by the ocean. Here is a pic of the view...

    hugs to all, Octogirl

Thanks for all the auspicious tibial fracture wishes, everyone!Winking I braved the elements--which were pretty much in retreat as temps were still in the 50s, and I was able to relax and zone out on the train. Tonight was dress rehearsal #2 (costumes only, at the Bar Assn.). A few little glitches--most notably during the opener, a traffic jam on stage right that either has me crashing into dancers or a guy on a tricycle (don't ask) crossing my path as I enter. The director told me she's not worried, as the actual stage is much bigger than the reception room in which we've been rehearsing. We moved to the theater (I got a lift there) and I am once again in my 3d floor dressing room with three other women--two of them have shared it with me for several years, but one is rehabbing a broken ankle and is keeping her costume changes to a minimum--she will be spending most of her offstage time backstage in a chair; a third is in so many scenes that she's going to do her changes backstage and in the quick-change room just off stage right.

Just got our mic plot, and it's going to be an adventure. The chart tells us which body mic we have, when and from whom we get it (which means at least once I'll have to put it on myself) and when and to whom to hand it off. I am mic'ed in three different scenes...with three different mics...plus one number singing soprano (I'm normally a mezzo) in the wings during a large dance number during which three of us (soprano, another mezzo, alto) are singing the chorus so that the ensemble can concentrate on their dance moves as they lip-sync to us. It's a parody of "Thriller" called "Twitter" (gee, I wonder who that's about), in which the dancers re-enact the Michael Jackson video...in pajamas. I have the lead (also in my PJs) in the number immediately before that, but I was excused from the dance scene because some of the moves (hopping, twisting) are verboten with my knee replacements--and because they'd rather I sang. (Trust me, you don't want to see me actually dance). The setup is extremely confusing, but hey--that's what tomorrow night's tech rehearsal is for. Then Wed. night is full-dress: costumes, makeup, wigs and mics. We open Thurs. and run through Sun. Then a neighborhood afternoon concert on the 8th, my duo's Christmas show up in Madison on the 15th, and a live-in-studio radio holiday show on the 19th (www.wdcb.org, if you'd like to tune in--from 7-10 pm).

Oh, and did I mention I'm doing all of this with my housekeeper having been away since the Fri. before Thanksgiving and not getting back (from Dallas & Birmingham) till Wed.? I know most of you do your own housework, but I'm definitely not used to it except on weekends.

    Molly, such good news! Congratulations!!

QMC, hope the gentleman caller is improving, and your new semester straightens itself out. Four computer courses???? (Runs screaming into the night....)

Sandy, a belated leg-breaking from me! Would love to see a video of your song.

Octo, beautiful photo. Glad your knee is behaving!

Iris, hope your fall didn't have any lasting effects.

I've also been thinking about Ducky. Ducky, where are you??

Thanksgiving was really fun. Turkey turned out beautifully, ditto the sweet potato rolls. So nice to have the college boy home, even if he spent a fair amount of time demonstrating his mastery of awfully big words like "arguably" and "normative." I spose it's par for the course--kind of cute. Apparently they don't have barbers at college. Sigh. But he seems well-adjusted and, allowing for upcoming finals, happy.

I bagged the turkey carcass and made about two gallons of stock, so we will have soup a'plenty. Carrot ginger on the stove as we speak!

    Hugs to all crazies....

Rainny: just think, I've got four more computer courses next semester.....three teachers so I won't be quite so confused about which class I'm there for. And yes: hostess's gentleman caller's been sprung; they released him 24 hours after admission, as I recall.

Molly Congratulations on clear ultrasound. My turn next Tuesday. Nurse said she didn't feel anything but normal scar tissue after my capsular contracture surgery/implant replacement in August. I recurred once and had radiation to that side (hence the contracture) and with 2 good CAT scans I should be set ...but noooooo I had to insist on another ultrasound to be sure. Break out the Attivan this week baby.

I am taking the afternoon off and (probably shouldn't tell my mother - 71 yr old feisty Italian) wants to come with so we are going to Jack Casino afterwards. Good or bad news, video poker to celebrate before home to get my kid off the bus. I figure if it's back, I can celebrate because I can justify pulling money out of my retirement and my husband will let me book us for another trip to Disney. I can also celebrate if all clear - because hey, I can live and keep cleaning house and working for X more years. LOL BAD CANCER HUMOR. Any pocket riders welcome with me on Tuesday as I've only had one good ultrasound (last fall) in the last 5 years. Bring me some luck please!!! Good night and God bless us all...

You only get one trip on the carousel, so pick the up-and-down horses whenever you can!

Bob told me tonight that our days of foreign travel together may be over--he is afraid to take long flights out of the country after having had a bowel obstruction 3 wks ago. He will be seeing his GI surgeon next week to ask his opinion.

Been to Epcot many times--by now we're Disneyed out. But we do love the Monterey Peninsula. We stayed at the Lodge at Pebble Beach and the Inn at Spanish Bay a few times before they were sold to a Japanese firm (I hear they're both membership-only golf resorts now). We do have timeshare points we can use at HGV resorts in Carlsbad & Dana Point, though--close enough to outstanding medical centers. Further south, of course, but still lovely. I think Bob's GI surgeon will allay his fears.
