oh mommy, that is terrible but glad yoou have it resolved now. Guess this is why we are encouraged to do a second opinion.

Well my onc called me yesterday, she had results of my pet scan. She was not happy with how it looked so she wants to change my med, no more taxol but an oral, chemo, i am not clear what one but previously medicare had refused approval of the oral chemo without me doing an infusion. So instead of going down for infusion today i am going just for some lab tests andnto talk to nurse practitioner who will go,over the med

Can youmsay crazy time? Good thing i bought a nice ice cream yesterday

(((((((((Iris)))))))) I am sorry about the scan but hoping medicare approves the oral chemo now that you had infusions. Gah, insurance is frustrating when your team is trying to do right by you.

Gordy is sick today--earache and now nausea & vomiting (despite having had nothing yesterday but ginger ale & chamomile tea). He's at the Urgent Care center around the corner. He has gotten a couple of migraines with nausea, so I wouldn't have been surprised if they gave him Imitrex; but the doc there examined his eardrum and it's definitely a bacterial middle and possibly inner ear infection, so they gave him an antibiotic. They are chalking the nausea & vomiting up to vertigo caused by inner ear involvement, as well as to the pain. He was also told to take OTC Sudafed and Tylenol. He's feeling a bit better now, but I think he's going to skip tonight's improv show, as well as stay home to avoid infecting his girlfriend only 10 days before she goes down to Houston to spend Christmas with her family.

Sandy, years ago when I was in college my then boyfriend became suddenly and dramatically ill with repeated vomiting and dizziness, with no other symptoms: we took him to ER and it took a bit of poking around but the diagnosis ultimately was an inner ear infection. Antibiotics cleared it up quickly, hope the same proves true for Gordy as well!

Lucy, happy birthday to DGS!!!! Enjoy the party!

Molly, glad Wyatt is doing ok and here's to healthy holidays for us all! Hope the air quality is ok where you are.

    Hugs to all Crazies!

Sandy, I hope Gordy feels better soon. Octogirl great article and makes sense to me. I often have to employ those tactics. Sometimes you don't have a choice.

Well, Gordy headed out the door around 8 pm last night. I suggested that he shouldn't take a chance on infecting Leslie, but he replied, "It's okay, Mom. I'm taking an antibiotic." I started to explain that's not how it works, that he is still contagious. He got impatient and pointed to the car outside, flashers blinking. "So I should tell her to go home?"

Sometimes you have to let your kids make their own mistakes, especially when they're adults. I replied, "Well, be careful and try not to get too close." He laughed, and I realized that advice wouldn't be heeded, since they spend the weekends together.

Concert went okay yesterday--though we really had to kludge sound reinforcement together. (The center's P.A. turned out to be a lectern with a cheap Radio Shack mic and a couple more jacks--in retrospect, we should have brought both of my little amps, not just one). The mayor (yup, Rahm) didn't get to hear us play, but he did get to see us pack up our stuff.

Had lunch & a nap afterward...awoke with a ticklish scratchy throat and by bedtime, streaming postnasal drip. Still have it today. Hope my voice can hold out through the week, as I have a gig up in Madison, WI on Friday. Tues. is my b.s. appt., and if all goes well I'll ask her if I should get my L breast reduced because it's so much bigger & droopier. (Don't want to do both--just want 'em to match and maybe be able to go down a cup size and keep my shirt buttons from gaping).

Internet is driving me nuts--had to power-cycle my Time Capsule twice tonight just to get the weak signal I have now. Tues. after my surgeon appt. Geek Squad is coming to install & set up my new wi-fi network--and not a moment too soon!

Lucy - that's awesome! Minecraft gets some mileage...my guy is 8 and still loves it. If you are looking for Christmas ideas still, Leggos makes cool Minecraft sets and it keeps the kids off the TV and using their hands for hours. Also my cousin got my son a zip up sweatshirt that is minecraft creeper colors and he can zip it right up the hood to cover his face and it has a creeper face on it. Cool stuff!

Well, one fear allayed: had my annual breast surgeon checkup today and all is well. She (as opposed to her former NP) thinks having the left breast reduced for symmetry is a fine idea, and gave me a plastic surgery referral. And another concern has been eliminated: I just had a new whole-house wi-fi network installed, and it's working great. Finally, I asked the Geek Squad guy about Bob's complaint on his old Windows laptop--the every-two-months password request upon booting up. It's not malware, as he feared: it's Microsoft's way of boosting security. If he remembers his password, fine--he can log in with it and then change it, as Microsoft insists. If not, he needs to take it back to Best Buy and have them wipe & restore for a third time--but this time with a "local" and not a Microsoft account.

Bob admitted that on Sat. night into Sun. he "survived" another bowel obstruction, this time treating it with a clear-liquid diet. He said he didn't tell me (I asked him when he was tossing & turning Sun. night if he had pain, and he lied) because he didn't want to go back to the ER and go through another bout of nasogastric suction, which he said was the worst pain he ever had--morphine barely made a dent. He's seeing his GI doc/surgeon on Thurs. for his 6-wk followup from his hospital stay, and I'm going along to ask questions he might forget to ask and giving answers he might not prefer to answer. On the one hand, he says he's fine to work until either age 70 or when most of his patients have died of old age, whichever comes first. On the other, he says it's not safe for him to travel out of the country because he could have another bowel obstruction. (I'm tempted to tell him he's likely to get better and cheaper care in Europe). We'll get the official assessment Thursday.

Before I get my breast reduction, I need to see a podiatrist. If you looked at my feet, you'd never believe that the L & R belong to the same person. R is absolutely normal, but L looks like it belongs to an alien (or the Elephant Man): giant bunion (of at least 45 yrs.' duration), "bunionette" on the other side, second toe beginning to "hammer;" fourth toe (which I've fractured twice) has a thick nail that sticks out like a wall-eye, is "one" with the skin below, and doesn't reach the tip of the toe--which has a giant callus at the tip (underneath the big toe and the bunion are two more doozies). My 4th & 5th toes hurt on the bottom when I put weight on them in most shoes unless I've put foam on the insole beneath where my forefoot goes. I also have a strange neuropathy in that big bunion toe--it feels like when I have an ingrown nail, but it's not ingrown or infected: when I touch the skin around the nail (even press on it), there's no pain at all. (When I have a severe ingrown, I can't even stand a sheet brushing against the toe). The pain seems to be coming from deep inside, especially when the big toe abuts and starts to overlap the hammertoe. I know (s)he will suggest surgery, but I'm not sure how well it'd work--especially if it means I have to wear a surgical shoe, cast-boot or sneakers for up to a year. I know this sounds trivial, but when something hurts that much it's all you can think of.

Lucy, DGS is adorable!! I bought minecraft Legos for my step son. Iris, praying for success. Sending heavenly kisses to Beppy. I ran across her name in my contacts over the weekend. Maybe she was saying hi.

I survived my big telephone system upgrade! Phew. Tomorrow we are taking Wyatt on our annual trip to Disneyland to see the holiday decor.
