I have been thinking of dear, sweet Beppy. I can't believe it has been a year! I upgraded to a new phone last week--after five years with the old one--and had that bittersweet moment of deleting contacts who are no longer with us, including Beppy. I think about the community she created here and how powerful it has been, especially, for me, in the summer and fall of 2015 as I cycled through chemo, surgery, and radiation. I certainly owe her--and Crazytown--a great deal.

And on that note, in your pocket, Iris, and hoping very much that the new regimen will last for a good long time!

Lucy, your GS is adorable and made me think of Tintin! That hair....

Molly, enjoy Disneyland with your lovely boy!

Sandy, glad you came through the appointment with good results, hoping Bob will recover entirely.

Happy 2nd night of Hanukkah, for those who celebrate. Actually, for everyone, because who doesn't love potato pancakes?

I've been cooking up a storm and have unearthed a trove of recipes that I either copied from my mother's cookbooks, back in the day, or that she sent to me. It's a nice way to feel a connection with her as her Alzheimers bites deeper (teeth and claws seem apt metaphors for such a savage disease). Tonight I made a mushroom/wild rice soup that I haven't made in years. It's delicious. Here's the catch, though: You cook the wild rice, You make the mushroom soup. Nowhere in the recipe does it tell you to add the rice to the soup. Huh. (Yes, dear reader, I did add the rice in the end.)

And on that note, sweet dreams to all....

Molly, you probably already know, but they have gingerbread snow in front of the castle at Disneyland. I think at 6:00 pm, 7:30pm, and after the fireworks. There is a sitting area in front of the castle with wooden benches and the snow comes out of snow blowers in front of the benches off to the sides. They light up the castle with lights and blow the snow. We were just there Monday, it was magical!

    Beppy....you are missed!

Theresa, no I didn't know that!! Thanks! Rainny, Alzheimers is insidious. My mom and sister passed away from it. When my mom finally let go I started baking. It helped me connect with her in my heart and work through my grief. Send me some latkas!! Sandy I missed your post about Bob. Talk about stoic! Wow!!

Molly, have a great time at Disney. We sure had a blast on Monday. Oh, and also, It’s A Small World is all decorated up for xmas too. So be sure to get on that ride as well. Hope you have a great time with Wyatt. My grandkids adore Disney, and I love going with them.

The snow they blow really smells like gingerbread.

Bob passed his exam too. Amazingly, what he did regarding this last minor blockage--clear fluid diet and lots of normal exercise--turns out to be exactly how to deal with one that isn't particularly painful. If it lasts more than a day, causes fever &/or a tight swollen belly, then it's ER time. His doc suggests we stay w/in an hour's drive of a major U.S. medical center for the next couple of months and see what happens. He also says that European travel should then be fine, so long as we follow the same rules and buy med-evac insurance (which we always do). He also warned me not to feel too complacent: any abdominal surgery, including gall bladder (even laparoscopic) or C-section, can cause adhesions even decades down the line; if I am truly constipated for more than a couple of days and feel upper abdominal distention I should seek medical attention. BTW, the most common surgery to cause adhesions? Hysterectomy. (I'm keeping the rusted baby carriage as long as I can).

ChiSandy you mentioned that the most common surgery to cause adhesions is a hysterectomy, I had what was called laproscopic surgery to remove my uterus and ovaries, and hope that adhesions only applies to a regular hysterectomy.

Yay for a magical time at Disney with Wyatt, Mollie, and yay for time with grandkids, Lucy!

Time to post my big announcement that i may (or may not have) hinted at in earlier posts: hubby and I, after months of deliberating where to retire, have picked our retirement location and have purchased a new retirement home. After much debate, we chose Reno, Nevada for a lot of reasons, including: we have family here, close proximity to an international airport to make travel (which I don't have in our current small town), good restaurants and shopping, very close (30 to 45 mins tops) to the mountains/Sierra/Tahoe for hiking and recreation and the second home/cabin that my kids' father owns and that kids and grandkids vacation at regularly both winter and summer, and oh yeah, no state income taxes, lower housing costs generally, and property taxes half of what we pay in California...

So we are eventually moving and are very excited! Until hubby retires in a year or two this will be a second/vacation home. We wanted to downsize and not have to keep up a yard, so we bought a lovely condo just about half the size of our current too-big house. Smallish, quiet complex that backs up onto public land, with a pool and hot tub for me...and the unit has a big garage and shop so hubby has his man cave. There are two private patios, so thanks to inspiration from Lucy when I visited her, I plan to have a small succulent and herb garden to replace the big/high maintenance yard in the old place. And yes there is room for guests! :-) So, the process of down-sizing, de-cluttering the old place, deciding what to keep and what not to keep, and decorating the new place begins!

Today we are heading out to shop for a fridge since it came without, and a new king bed for the master bedroom, since we figured we needed one in both places...could I have picked a worse weekend to be spending my time in the mall and shops?

and yes, it does sometime snow in Reno in winter, but only about four or five times a year, and the HOA does the snow removal! In exchange for cooler winters, we will get cooler summers, a blessing.

Signed the final papers yesterday, and escrow closes Monday! Let the shopping begin...

    Hugs to all, Octogirl

Mazel tov, Octo--all the advantages of Vegas but with gorgeous scenery to boot. And lower property taxes--resulting in lower maintenance fees--was the main reason why we switched our timeshare from NYC back to Vegas.

Got sucked down into CT again. Had my routine CT scan last week. Found out that the blood clot in the heart is gone, but have developed them now in my lungs. They took me off the oral blood thinner and put me on one I have to inject.

Octomom - congratulations! Thanks for sharing the details, can almost imagine something so lovely and just a well thought out all around smart move to a great location. I hope you enjoy the heck out of that place. It's inspiring!

Mommy of 2 - sorry to hear about the lungs. It's so unfair to have good news AND bad news. Why can't we just get the former and not have to worry about something new. :(

proudtospin... I'd like to avoid the crazies...unfortunately I work with them and am related to them close enough to spend every damn holiday and birthday with them (except mine - I purposefully ask to go boating or horseback riding to avoid my monster in law because she doesn't like water and is getting too far up there to ride anymore - I need a swimming pool horseback riding Christmas to shake them for next week, not possible in suburban Ohio in the winter). bleh.

I'm fresh out of attivan. Think I will call the mail order pharmacy and pay $21 to have expedited. ;)

    Hi Everyone,

I've been taking a break from CrazyTown... just this website, because I continue to live in CT. Nothing has changed health-wise. It's just overwhelming sometimes. I've missed you greatly and have thought about all of you often. I'm just completely overwhelmed with life. Which I must say is way better than being overwhelmed with cancer crap!

    Happy Holidays! Hugs!

Poppy .. good to see you ..but sorry your feeling so overwhelmed...I hope you enjoy your Christmas !

Mommy ..ugh .sorry the about the clots ..hope your new meds work quickly on them.

(( Iris )) What are you plans for Christmas ?

7of9 ...HaHa..I like the term Monster in law ...

Octo ..well ..you have been busy organising your retirement !!! I will have to visit both places when I come holidaying :-) Glad it has all worked out so beautifully for you ... We are still in crazy land trying to push our house building application through council ..I swear they are as slow as a wet week ...I think they do it on purpose !! Australia's building industry virtually shuts down between now and end of January for holidays anyway.Hubby has been having fun with his chainsaw clearing the trees where the house will be ...he's addicted to it !!

Going to head to the shops today to get all my non perishable food for Christmas ..then I will have to fight the crowds on Saturday to get the rest .

    Hugs to all ..

Been doing the injections since Friday. Having no problems giving myself the injections, the only thing that hurts is poking the dang thing in. Belly hurts for about 10 minutes afterwards.

Poppy!! I missed you. ((((M0mmy))) You are one brave cookie. Iris, you are too. I truly admire how you just march through each day with a good attitude. Hi Lucy, good luck with the shopping. I am trying to finalize my menu for Christmas dinner. My DD just gave me a huge blow Saturday night. She's taking DGS with her on a trip with her ex BF for Christmas. I cried for 30 minutes straight. I am beyond angry with her. What can you do though?

Fortunately the nurses had me do the first injection in front of them and my hubby so he knows how to give me the shot in case he has to. I don't particularly like doing it, but I know it's necessary.

M0mmy, is that Lovenox? Had to get those shots every day while rehabbing after my knee replacements. At least it's not a big honkin' needle & syringe like Prolia. But nobody likes to be a pincushion. Hope it works and you can discontinue it soon.
