mommy, hey you are a good shopper! My walking is not strong enough to do much shopping in big stores or for that matter, anything more than small stores.

Waiting on cleaning gal, she called to confirm so hanging on. Got appt with foot doc, hopping he can trim more of my blackened big toe and he will also trim my toenails, can not seem to do them myself anymore

So i was just reviewing my lab reports, all are better than when i started but not good enough to stop the meds, oh well hanging on. I had lunch with pals yesterday and all said my hair looked good or at least fuller!

Mommy, I feel your pain on the dress shopping. Now that I've had both knees replaced, any dress HAS to be well below the knee to hide the big scars. Nothing wrong with Goodwill or other thrift stores. Have you thought about a nice pants outfit?

Was thinking about that too if the dress or skirt search doesn't come up with something I like. I have no shame about thrift store shopping when it comes to saving money. When it comes to the hem, don’t mind it coming down to about mid-calf, at least it hides these ugly knees! Lol

Now hubby is thinking I might need new shoes to go with whatever I am wearing to the wedding. I told him it all depends on the colors of the outfit. But then again he may be right

(amused) Well, 'below the knee' is the appropriate business length for skirts....but I'd go for nice pants if I had the choice. Saves having to struggle with either shaving my legs or wrestling pythons...um, nylons. That said, I'm happily wearing shorts despite having an "anklet" of discoloration after a leg infection last fall. Not scars, though, I know.

Oh and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WYATT! Hope it was a good and enjoyable one all 'round.

I hate wearing nylons or tights, too much hassle and struggle to get them on and then my legs look like I they are sausages in a casing! Lo

Yeah, I'm with the 'sausages in a casing'...back to non-medical Crazy Town issues for the win. I can bear the high-end Nordstrom brand of nylons, but I can't afford them on a regular basis, given how hard I am on my toys.

I don’t do pantyhose, since I have scoliosis and they always go on crooked (and I often injure myself with all the contortions I must perform to put them on). If I can’t go bare-legged (I earned those matching knee replacement scars, plus the “zipper” from my tibial plateau repair 22 yrs. ago and I don’t care who sees ‘em) or my hem’s too short for thigh-highs, I wear pants or an evening gown. As “rugged” as my legs are, they’re the last things to go to pot—at least they’re still shapely. Nonetheless, for black-tie hospital gala from Hell season, my go-to is palazzos, a floaty jacket, and embellished shell. I don’t give a rip about wearing it to several banquets or dinner-dances in a row—not some semi-millennial trophy wife teetering around in stilettos and a dress the size of a Band-Aid.

    lol

Plus if I wear pantyhose, people can see my scars on my left foot from having a bunion removed back in my mid-20s. Ever since then, I can’t wear high heels either. Have to wear flats or a low heel.

It’s official pantyhose and high heels are the invention of the devil.

all my shoes are slightly orthopedic in styling! Recently discovered good old keds! Not for serious walking but great for trasping around the house and preventing me from bumbing my big toe again! So now i buy new balance, clarks and keds, oh yes, also ortho feet!

I love the sneakers New Balance makes, plus they are the only ones that fit my inserts that were specially made to support my feet after the bunion surgery.

ok, Crazies, I just went squarely into CT...could really use some help before i fall down a rabbit hole....

Anyway, hubby had a routine physical with his doc (GP/Internist) today. I think it has been six months since his last visit, but not sure, and I don't want to ask too many questions and upset hubby...but anyway, all went well, his lab tests were all good to great, cholesterol low, etc., no problems, *except* that the doc found a mole on his face near his ear he wants to biopsy to be sure it isn't cancer....(he does have high blood pressure but meds and diet are controlling it, nothing new there...). Doc has been his GP for at last eight years, hubby really likes him....

Funny thing was, I had a mole biopsied last year, and I wasn't worried too much really, and it was fine (and my recent visit with dermatologist this year was fine too), but hubby's biopsy has me freaked out. The doc did mention the possibility of melanoma, said it does match some of the signs (irregular, different colors etc). It isn't ulcerated though (which I guess is good?) and to me to be honest it doesn't look like pics I see of melanoma, but what do I know? Hubby has had it a while but it does seem bigger than it was. I have no idea if doc just noticed it, or has been watching it at previous visits, or if hubby pointed it out to him, and I as I say, I am afraid to give hubby the third degree...

So, biopsy is scheduled mid-August; same doc is going to do it, he apparently does his own biopsies. Ok fine, but mid-August? It seems so far away.

Honestly, there is so much going on in our lives (moving soon, hubby is retiring end of July, possible new job for me, trip in September), I just feel like we don't have time for cancer. So of course I feel like that is when it hits, right? (but then, when do we ever time for cancer?).

Why does this freak me out more than I worry about my own bc coming back some day? I just don't know if I can handle not knowing anything till mid-August. And Hubby seems so calm and unconcerned (could be an act, of course).

Should I bug him to find a time to get the biopsy sooner? Encourage him to see if he can get into see my dermatologist in the next few weeks? Or will a few more weeks really make a difference?

Any words of wisdom would be much appreciated!! Thanks all.

Sounds like if it were suspicious for melanoma, it'd already have been at least shave-biopsied. My derm did that right then & there as soon as she saw the mole on my back. The fact that they're waiting till Aug. should be somewhat comforting.

Octo ..sorry you're worried...ugh ..I have to say I totally agree with Sandy ..I'm sure if the doctor thought there was the slightest chance it was a melanoma he wouldn't be waiting until mid August to do a biopsy..I hate waiting too :-( ...maybe ask Hubby to ring and see if he can get an earlier appointment ( I'd make my Hubby do that for sure 😋) ..

Octo...my son had melanoma...here is my opinion, and suggestion....The first thing is....only let a Derm who does Mohs surgery biopsy that mole...its his ear..anything above the neck should be done by a Derm who does Mohs surgery......2nd..you don’t delay biopsy of any mole that you think could be melanoma..my sons was scheduled for the following week....
My sons was on the calf area of his leg....it was melanoma and they did surgery (not mohs because it was his leg), and he is ok, and is checked every 3 months.....he has had several biopsies all skin cancer, and the ones on his face were done with Mohs.....
I would try to find another Derm who can see him sooner.....and honestly, if he is a good Derm, he will send him to a Mohs Derm for his ear biopsy if he is not certified to do Mohs.....that was what my sons Derm did.....she said “this is above the neck..you should have Mohs done, and I will give you the name of “the best in our area”......the guy was amazing....you cannot even see where his Mohs was done, and he had 2 on his face.
Thank God all is well with his melanoma, .
True is your hubby’s Derm said “mid august” it might not be serious...I just would not wait......and I would not allow a non “Mohs Derm” to touch his ear......just my opinion.......

Odtogirl, The spot is a concern, to be sure, but perhaps the thought was (maybe here) new insurance? Probably not, but I had some concerns myself about insurance since it changed in mid treatment.

Deep breath, Octo. I can't address the Mohs/regular biopsy, though having a trusted practitioner who's already got you as a patient do the biopsy rather than going through the hassle of a referral is something to consider. I don't know how long a referral would take.

(tossing a rope down the rabbit hole) But I can well imagine being flipped out if it's a loved one going through the problem, rather than oneself. But that doesn't increase HIS risk just YOUR worry....here, have a rocker on the CrazyTown Inn porch and a cold drink of your choice. We're here for you.

thanks for the words of comfort and the help getting out of the rabbit hole....I am going to bug hubby a little about speeding it up, but I certainly hope it is true that the doc isn't too worried or he'd speed up the date himself! Thank Goodness for Gabe, he is keeping me sane, along with you all!

ducky! Beautiful family, your grandchildren are particularly beautiful. Thanks for the birthday wishes for our guy. He's really not doing well and I feel like I live on the precipice of the emotional cliff of grief. Anyway that's why I don't check in often but I read the email updates from this thread and think of all of you often. I ran across a text from Beppy that shook me up and then I smiled at the memories of the incredible person she was.

Octogirl, my prayers for your husband. I see the derm NP every six months. She took a biopsy on my eyelid last Monday . Ouch!

In your pocket for b9 results, Molly!

I get my cast tomorrow--hope it's less confining than this big honkin' splint/pressure dressing. Will have to start carrying trash bags in my purse to keep it dry in the rain. Down to 1 Norco + 1 reg. Tyl. q 6h--icing & elevation helping.

Had a morning that sent me right in CT again. Told hubby this morning I was going to make a loaf of homemade bread in my bread maker while I got the laundry going after he left for work. Got the laundry going and started the process of bread making going. Almost got through the first step which is themixing and kneading step before it goes into the first rise when the blasted thing started making noise. So I tried to eliminate what was going on to come to no answer. So I let I go into the rising process which went fine. Started up into the 2nd kneading and the noise came back. So I went back to trying to find out what was going on. I was in tears when my hubby called me to see if things were okay here at home. Told him what was going on with the bread maker, he narrowed it down rather quickly. The bread maker had died after 15 years of use! So I get off the phone with him and then I call my mom really quick to find out how to finish making the loaf of bread after I told her my bread maker bit the dust on me as I was in the process of making a loaf. I got a crash course in bread making the old fashioned way. Well the loaf turned out perfect, despite the bread maker dying.
