Nah, mom lives over 2 hrs away from me. Hubby said we’ll get a new one and I told him it could wait for a while now that I know how to make bread the old fashioned way. Never made it from scratch, always in a bread maker. At least mom was there over the phone to give me some much needed assistance.

Ducky: (sighs wistfully) That's a lovely photograph of you with your greatgrandson. I can just hear you both giggling together,

Mommy: having made bread by hand for decades before I got a (whispers bread machine), I can attest to the fact that making bread by hand can work wonders when you're about to be sucked down an appropriate rabbit hole. Lo these mumbletwitch years ago, when I was working at a clusterfuck of a restaurant, the bartender (female) came into the kitchen of the restaurant and asked...nay, demanded that she be permitted to knead the bread. Turns out she'd just been dumped by the boyfriend she'd had high hopes for.....the cook for the restaurant said it was the best batch of bread they'd ever produced because [bartender] took out all of her frustration on the bread so it had been kneaded within in an inch of its little yeasty life. Gluten well developed. Tender crumb. Too bad the bartender didn't break up multiple times a week, as far as the bread was concerned.

So, beat the bleep out of the bread rather than venting at the poor nurse practitioner/medical assistant. The bread will be tender. The NP/MA will be grateful...but save a little for the oncologists who are in charge of your care.

Dearest denizens of Crazytown, just checking in....

ChiSandy, glad you got through surgery and hope your cast is in place and reasonably comfortable. How great to have it in the rear-view mirror!

Octogirl, I can see how DH's dr visit could be a straw on the back of a terribly overburdened camel. On the Crazytown porch, next to the boombox playing bad 70s hits, there is a small plate with a delicious assortment of cupcakes topped with Ativan sprinkles, right next to a pitcher of gin and tonics. The lasagna is in the oven, just inside. Have a seat in the rocking chair; we're all here waiting for mid-August.

Molly, thinking of you and Wyatt, always....

Mommyof2, welcome to the club of those of us who make bread the old-fashioned way! Though I do most of the kneading in my electric mixer these days, with a dough hook. My DH comes from a family that had bread on the table for every single meal. In the early days of my marriage, we were spending what seemed like a ridiculous amount of money on the stuff, so I started making it myself. There are even recipes that call for no kneading at all, which make wonderful bread. These days, our daily bread recipe most is one that calls for half whole-wheat flour and a cup of bulgur (another kind of wheat), so it has quite a bit of fiber and a lot of flavor. Though I do love french bread from time to time.

My mother's house went on the market just after the 4th and sold quickly. Now to empty it out before the close. It is amazing how much stuff is accumulated over a lifetime. We're packing up the kitchen for the grandchildren: all except one will be done with college in a few years, so there will be many new apartments to furnish. Taking some furniture, including my mother's piano, which makes me very happy. Throwing away so, so many papers. It's a great deal of work, but somehow satisfying.

Saw my MO last Friday, so that particular bit of stress is done for a while. Not that she isn't perfectly nice, and there were no issues. Just. You know. Anticipatory stress.

    Anyway, waving to all crazies!

rainny, i love love bread! Any and all but your home made bread with bulgar wheat, oh lordie that sounds good. Ducky, i sure do hope that photo is printed and framed, it is very special. I have one of my mom, she hated having her pic taken....well it is with her in a rocking chair and grandson Bob, sort of on her feet and both are laughing!

Sandy, do hope your getting through all your surgery and all well.

Onc visit on friday, i have been having a pain in my left side, hoping it was from overdoing it at the gym, it started after i hit the gym 3 days in the row! Rather that be the cause. Do not know how some women deal with this friggen hand and foot syndrone, my hands are well ok. But my feet hurt so bad first thing in morn. Now, well i have slathered all the creams on them and not too bad.

Saw the psych yesterday, at times i do think she is a waste of time. She seems glueless on how much time all these appts actually can absorb your life.

We get to pick up our new little poodle on Monday ..I'm so excited ..have to go and buy a bed for her today 😊

lucy, there is a thread on xeloda, the pills i am on and it is hugely helpful to read what creams folks are using and also the doesage, i knew when i started i was on the max dosage but of course did not know how the side effect would affect me. But on the other side, my numbers have been i every month and that is huge! Tomorrow i see my onc so we will definitely have a talk. Last month she dropped the number of pills from 8 to 7 so will see how my numbers are this month

M0mmy, oh what a pretty dress! Yes, cream will work well I think. rainny, so good to see you! I am sorry about your feet. Is it a chemo thing? iris, as always my prayers and well wishes are with you and I am dancing over your improved numbers! ducky, O M Goodness!!!! Bobby is soooooo big and so stinking cute and that picture is beyond frame-able! How adorable you two laughing together! Your picture of your two handsome grandson is beautiful too. I wish your boys could be set up with my DD. She needs a good man with a good family background! Lucy, best of luck emptying out your house. Sandy, I hope you are recovering well. You have been through so much. I QMC great story about kneading bread.

I make homemade sourdough every week. We don't buy bread any more. I use a method called stretch and fold instead of kneading. Here is a video link

    Stretch and Fold method

Yesterday we got to visit with my niece who lives in Tulsa. She is the daughter of the sister I lost 6 years ago. She has 3 precious kids who i don't know well enough due to distance. Unfortunately we forgot to take pictures except for one she took of my DGS and his 2nd cousin hunting sand crabs. We were at Venice Beach.

I saw my MO today. Second visit with him. I really like being listened to. After I left I glanced at my blood work order for next appointment in six months and he order CA 27.29 and CA 15.3

This is a first for me! Plus I asked for another Dexascan before I decide to take Fosamax or not. I am on the fence about taking it since I only have ostepenia in my lumbar. My hips are in normal range.

molly, your dgs is adorable, the hat and all! He reminds me of my nephews when they were that age, they lived along the coast of mass and loved digging in the sand.

I remember the one guy was saving seashells and wanted everyone in the family to bring him shells from their travels. I went to Bermuda and well, the pink beachex really did not have much in the way of shells but i brought these little bits of shells. When i got home, he asked me if i brought him shells. I said yes and i would bring them on my next trip. He said you can mail them to me. Wrap them in tissue and they wont break.

    He was a pistol!

ducky, Bobby is getting so big!

Didn’t get a cast after all—instead, an EXOS brace with thumb spica to restrict my CMC (lower thumb) joint so as not to knock loose the reinforcing screw in my scaphoid. It starts out soft neoprene, is heated in a NuWave oven, and then before it cools is molded to the arm & hand. Once cool, it’s rock-hard plastic but 1/3 the weight of a fiberglass cast. It can be reheated & remolded as swelling goes down or muscles atrophy (or firm up). It has a knob I can turn to loosen or tighten it, and I can take it off to shower (technically, can swim with it and then dry it with a hairdryer, but no swimming till the sutures dissolve and steri-strips fall off). Problem is, I have such short fingers & thumb that unless the re-mold the hard “valley” between them, they won’t meet. That’s right—I temporarily lack an opposable thumb on my L hand. Zippy the Chimp (or an alley raccoon) has more dexterity than I do!

Having a great time in NYC. Wonderful weather, tasty food, and shows—last night, “Come From Away” (awesome!) and tomorrow afternoon, “A Bronx Tale.” Still have to kill some time before picking our bags back up from the hotel valet and heading out for our 9:30 flight. Want to spend as little time as possible at LaGuardia, which is the 7th circle of Hell (especially the pathetic terminal concourseallocated to Southwest, which has one mediocre bar and a bunch of meh kiosks).

    Just checking in...

Great progress Iris, I agree! and yes to the shoes Mommy as well from me. Sandy, glad you are enjoying NYC and glad that you got some beach time with family Molly! My grandkids love Venice Beach.

Well, I tried to get hubby to move up his biopsy. He did call his doc, who is fully booked until the date hubby already has, but who put him as number one on a waiting list for an apt next week to do it if there is a cancellation. I gave him my derm's name and tried to throw a bit of a fit, but he told me he really wanted to stick with his doctor. He just doesn't seem worried, though of course, he could be hiding it. Still, I pushed as hard as I can. Just trying to keep the crazies at bay. Those ativan sprinkled cupcakes you all have offered are coming in handy.

OK, so news: I am going to come out of retirement and just accepted a new job. In a city about a 1000 miles away, in a city and a region that hubby and I have both always loved, which is part of the appeal. They made me an offer that was just too hard to pass up, and are paying relocation expenses. So yes, I may be too busy to worry too much. Have to start pricing movers. I've been in the new town for a few days house hunting, with my new employer picking up the tab. We decided to keep our condo in Reno/Tahoe area, and continue with plans to sell our California home (it is going on the market soon), so we were just looking for the right rental place for now (owning three houses would be too much!). The rental market is tight but I got lucky and found the right place within a day, including hubby by face time in the search since he is working (he retires end of the month). It is in a great neighborhood with a lovely deck and view and beautiful walking trails. Soon I will be Octogirl in New Mexico........More later...

That's good Hubby's appointment may be moved forward ..your mind will be eased when it's done and dusted !! Is Gabe happy about the move ????? :-)....

Was so mad today after my mani/pedi. Went to try on the shoes I wore at my wedding to see if they would still fit and I couldn't get either of them on! So I went to the mall and got a nice pair of dark blue flats. Luckily they were on sale!
