I'm getting ready to go to my one-year-after-diagnosis follow up with the breast surgeon. I was curious about what you'd suggest I ask about for monitoring from here forward? I think anxious is too strong a word, but I am aware that I feel uneasy about knowing what happens next?

MDRR, me, too! Both on the one year post diagnosis and the uneasiness. Mammo/ ultrasound next week and doctor's visit the following week. At six months she wouldn't commit to more than 5 years on Tamoxifen but responded we should wait and see on that. I am fairly certain the plan is to see her every three months until at least the 2 year anniversary. Not clear on how often for the mammograms yet.

I think she said she’d do annual breast MRIs; I’m not sure of what, if any, other things we should get. For example should we have colonoscopy more often because of breast cancer? Special blood tests? I love my docs but want to be sure I ask questions !

MDRR ..I had a single MX ..so they do a 3D mammogram on the remaining breast , and then ultra sound both sides .My doctor does the CA15- 3 tumour marker blood test .
I have 5 yearly colonoscopy ..but had started that before DX as I had previously had a polyp.
Seems every doctor has their own ideas .

My gastro said in Aug. 2017 (almost 2 yrs post-dx for bc) I could wait for 10 yrs for a followup colonoscopy. Current guidelines recommend against colonoscopies after age 75 in asymptomatic individuals. The only way the two diseases are connected is if you have one of the BRCA or other mutations that raise the risk for both,

MDRR, I am on an every three year schedule for colonoscopy-- due in fall 2019. When I asked my gastroenterologist if we should move it up, he said no, to keep to the same schedule. It is every 3 years because I had 2 premalignant polyps, one each 10 years apart. Seems if it isn't one thing, it is something else! But thank goodness for all that can be done now, both for diagnosis and treatment. Even the dreaded prep for a colonoscopy is so much better than it used to be.

Thank you ChiSandy and Beaverntx; I'm not due again for a colonoscopy until 2021 so by then maybe the prep will be even better! Appreciate your information.

lucy, yes i cooked the steak and enjoyed a small portion, may have some later today, tasted good and tummy is calm today yahoo for that, my doc said to take the med before the nausea hits, seems to be good advise

MDRR - Never had an MRI on either breast, nor has it been suggested. Follow up ultrasound done after suspicious mammo, then biopsy & diagnosis on 12/2/2016. 1st mammo after lumpectomy (12/21/16) & rads was not until Jan 2018. That mammo & my upcoming one on 1/22/19 are termed "diagnostic" - mammo is read & you know the results right away. Mammo is synched with Breast Surgeon appointment.
Re: Colonosopy - Availed myself of a new way to prep, called HyGIeaCare, offered in my area. Way better than prep last time. Also, the "knock out" meds were much more tolerable. Woke up after procedure with no nausea/feeling out of it. All good, so 10 yrs before needed again at age 74.
Had my 1st DEXA scan since Nov 2016 & somewhat dreading the results as AIs may throw me into the need for something like Prolia.
Just had eye exam and diagnosed with dry eye (known side effect of AI) + more alarmingly, early stages of macular degeneration. Advised to use Systane Complete for dry eyes & take Ocuvite 50+ to help with eye health.
Prior to BC, did not really feel my age. Now seems like its one thing after another.

So glad to hear there's a new colonoscopy prep ..I'm due to have another one in a year's time ..I kept vomiting because of it ( 4 years ago ) .I was worried I wouldn't beable to keep enough of it down to "work" !!!

Celia, you might have a pleasant surprise. My first DEXA in 2015--right before moving down the hall for my first radiation session--showed osteopenia (bordering on osteoporosis in one hip). So my PCP put me on 1000mg. of calcium citrate, plus D3, K2 and magnesium; and after a traumatic experience with a Zometa infusion (five tries before they found a vein that wouldn't roll, pain with each pump, and then fever & faux-flu), I had three Prolia shots 6 mos.apart. Followup DEXA showed the osteopenia had improved to the point where the density in my arm is now normal. Had another shot after that. 4 down, 2 to go.
I had "Suprep" for my colonoscopy in 2017. Pretty gross--a tossup between that and mag citrate--but nowhere near as bad as that Moviprep stuff. But my Part D wouldn't pay for the Suprep, so I went out of pocket for the $40 cost. Not due for another one till 2027 absent any symptoms. Bob's not a candidate for HyGIaCare because he's had both a perforation and a hernia--and besides, there's no center in our region (you have to go to one of their centers because it's a medically-supervised enema requiring their special equipment).
Have my next refraction in a couple of weeks--I suspect I'll need some stronger reading correction. (And another visit to Warby Parker--not to mention getting a local optical shop to replace the lenses in my two current fave WP frames, as WP won't replace progressive lenses in their own frames. Not gonna do anything with my Zennis, as they're too flimsy for most shops to work with).

We're out of this rental by Jan 28 ..so now the agent has started having frequent "open homes " here to find a new tenant ..The pressure is on me to clean up every day 🙄

I've been in a funk for the past several days. My dear friends IBC has progressed. She is 9 months post diagnosis. Chemo did not stop the progression. She completed her chemo regime but she was hospitalized three times due to the side effects of the chemo. She had a mastectomy purely as a palliative measure. There are no other treatments available for her. Currently she's in good spirits. Lately, she has started to experience severe back pain. I'm just frustrated, angry it's so very sad. My friend is a lovely person who has always had a generous Heart. I've been pet setting her beloved dog Bella since Thanksgiving Day. Little Bella misses her mommy. I'm going to take Bella home to visit her mom on Sunday. Breast cancer really pisses me off. Tomorrow will be a better day. Goodnight to all

This is my Crazy Town vent. When I was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 I hired an assistant to take care of the billing for my therapy practice. I'm a sole proprietor so it's only one person. While I was recuperating from food poisoning between Christmas and New Year's I started reviewing my invoices. She hadn't billed in 13 months for one of my clients. There is a 6-month expiration date on billing.So, I will be reimbursed from July through December 2018. I cannot recoup the loss from December 2017 through June 2018. When confronted she laughed it off and said "so what stuff happens". I had to let her go. A few days ago she called me for reference and I told her "no". I'm feeling a little guilty because I refused to give her a good reference. I don't like the idea of impeding another person's ability to work. Her mistake cost me over $6,000 in lost billing. If she had apologized I would have given her another chance. Thanks for allowing me to vent. Now I need to let it go and move forward.

Jo, glad you could vent here -- and you certainly had reason to vent ! At one point in my working career we, when asked for a reference, were restricted to only verifying that the person was employed from (start date) to (end date). Perhaps you could do that should you be contacted.

beaver- What a great idea. Actually that's how I ended up with her in the first place. When I called for a reference on her they only stated her work dates. Now I know why. LOL

Jo ..How annoying ! Don't feel guilty at all not giving her a reference ..you are stopping her doing it to anyone else ! In fact I would feel guilty actually giving her a reference !!! Wow ..The cheek of her to say stuff happens !!! Now I'm mad !! HaHa .

Jo ..my BFF came down with terrible food poisoning on Boxing Day ...ended up in hospital ...and is seriously only just turning the corner the last few days . Every time she tried to start eating again she would throw up .I was starting to really be worried about her ..

Lucy- food poisoning is very nasty. I can empathize with your BFF. It took a week before I could keep any solid food down. I would take a bite of food and throw up. I had anti-nausea medication left over from my BMX surgery. I began taking that with good results. I had a full prescription because I never needed it post-op nor did I need it during chemo. But with food poisoning I needed it. Go figure. I know it's tough for her because it's so important to stay hydrated. Did they give her any anti-nausea medications.

I would be careful about such meds for food poisoning. Diarrhea and vomiting are the body's natural reaction to get rid of toxins. Fluid intake should be the key.

mcbaker-my doctor gave me permission to take the anti nausea meds 5 days after I ingested bad food. The first four days was vomiting and diarrhea. I wasn't even able to take a sip of Gatorade or water without vomiting. Anti-nausea medications we're most definitely not a first choice.
Octo- my friend's condition hasn't changed. Her attitude is very good. She has started to experience severe back pain. Her doctor won't prescribe her pain medications unless she agrees to accept hospice. He is trying to force her into something she isn't ready to accept yet. So he won't prescribe her any pain medication. I don't think it's fair. But that's just my opinion I have been feeling sad for her because she's been through so much and for myself because I hate to see my friends suffer. Sunday I'm going to take her dog Bella to visit with her for a few hours.
Lucy-I admit I'm not happy about losing a large chunk of money but that too is okay now. Once I vent I'm okay. I'm not going to hang on to it. What really pissed me off was her nonchalant attitude. I'm not going to give her a good reference. Thanks for your concern I do appreciate it.
