-15 predicted early Friday morning, and -20 early Saturday morning. I have neuro testing tomorrow. Really anxious about it because of funny sensations, weakness, and clumsiness. Divided about taking a week or so off from chemo.

Stopped snowing but the temps are getting colder. 4F by morning, then -6 overnight tomorrow. Light snow Fri. night into Saturday (going down to -11). Warming up to low 20s by Sunday night, but accompanied by up to a foot of snow. Checked into the Drake, will drop Bob’s wine tasting ticket off at the door if he doesn’t get here by 6. Path of least resistance for dinner: Le Coq D’Or in the hotel (or maybe Rosebud Steakhouse a few doors down).

I really don’t feel like tasting wine—haven’t eaten since 1pm and I don’t want heartburn. But the tickets are prepaid & non-refundable, and the only reason we took this hotel room

Wine tasting was overwhelming--100+ wines (all 2016 Bordeaux). It was in a packed ballroom that was difficult to navigate. I managed to get through it w/o getting buzzed by spitting & pouring out most of the reds, which were so brutally tannic (even the Merlot-forward ones) I couldn't tell the cheap ones from the mid-priced from the sky-high-priced ones. The Sauternes at the end were such a relief that I didn't spit or pour out. We didn't buy anything: minimum order was 6 bottles (half a case) per wine! For some of them, that would have run well into four figures! Delivery wouldn't be till this fall or even early 2020. Nope.

Dinner was meh, both food-and-ambience wise, but it was good to have Gordy there with us. Sadly, that was the only eatery in the hotel that serves dinner; and the sidewalks were too icy to walk half a block down the street to a (much better) steakhouse.

Sandy, if it wasn't already too icy to go to the steakhouse, it would have certainly been too cold tonight. It is incredibly frigid out there.

I haven't been on the forum much lately as my mother has been in and out of the hospital. It looks like we may have to consider an assisted living facility for her as well, as her living by herself is getting too difficult for her to manage.

I'm heading back into CrazyTown, though, as it's time for my annual mammogram and semi-annual lab tests tomorrow, followed by an MO appointment next week. I'm hoping my car starts tomorrow when it is 8 below so I don't have to reschedule.

Cubbie, good luck on the mammogram and the tests, in your pocket and keep us posted! and sorry you are having to deal with your mom's issues as well.

Lucy, hope the move went very smoothly!

I am back in California for a combination of work and business for about a week, so getting a break from dealing with icy sidewalks! Yay!

I'm counting the days till my long weekend getaway to Vegas next Fri. It'll be in the 60s during the day and 40s at night. I can live with that--once I went there in Feb. and it drizzled the whole time...until it started sleeting.

wow, well back from my journey i to nyc to day, seems my shunt from my hydrocephelus surgery needed adjustment after an mri i had a while back. I have really been having a hard time walking. Crazy as i would never have identified the cause cept for a great transvusion nurse at sloan the other week.

Really funky and hi tech the way they adjusted the shunt, stay tuned!

Amazing how often "normal pressure hydrocephalus" (aka NPH) gets misdiagnosed as Parkinson's or even Alzheimer's. Good "catch" by the transfusion nurse!

I'm in crazytown for a bit. Have had hip pain for over a month so dr. ordered an xray. The requisition said 'hx of breast ca; r/o mets' Dr was clear that she thought it was way more likely to be muscle or bursitis or arthritis but still of course we need some confirmation.

I'm keeping busy but this low level worry in the background wears one down.

I hear you: every time I have any musculoskeletal symptoms (especially back pain, or suspected fracture after falling) and need an X-ray, my requisition always says "r/o osteoblastic or osteoclastic lesions;" and with my back, "r/o compression fracture" as well. Once we have had cancer, we are much more likely to be taken seriously about even the most minor aches & pains.

iris- so glad they found your problem and were able to quickly fix it. Unfortunately it never should have occurred in the first place.

Cubbie- best of luck on your annual mammogram.

Octo and sandy- enjoy your mini vacation from sleet and snow.

Moth- once you've been diagnosed with breast cancer every little ache and pain becomes magnified. On a positive note physicians' take our concerns/ complaints more seriously. Or they should? We were diagnosed at about the same time. I completed my last treatment yesterday of herceptin and perjeta. I will have blood work done every 3 months. No scans will be ordered unless there is an issue with my blood work or physical/ cognitive status. I have to remain proactive in my care. I get what you mean when you talk about the low-level anxiety in the background. Maybe when we're Ned for 5 years or so our anxieties will have diminshed by then. I know this is also a very busy time for you with school. Stay focused.

Results are in from the latest scan, everything is still good. Only thing that showed up was fluid in the lungs from the cold I came down with last week

mommy- great news on the results of your scan. Congratulations. What a relief for you and your family.

Lucy- so you're finally in your new house. That is fantastic. I had to laugh when you shared the story about your rash. It's amazing how quickly your mind wanders to the worst scenario. There's something special about moving into a new place.

M0mmy, whew! Lucy, isn't it maddening how our minds go to the darkest places with every little symptom? (I freaked out after rads when I saw a round rough tan patch on my healthy breast--so much so that I insisted on an urgent derm appt. Turns out it was either a healed psoriasis plaque or a cafe au lait birthmark--which I'd never noticed before because I never looked for any anomalies before bc).

Iris ...I don't blame you needing a day to yourself to rest ....enjoy it !

Only 2.45 am here ...I think I need to join the insomnia thread :-(

Gonna hibernate till Thurs. aft, when the vet says it'll be safe to take Heidi out in her carrier with a blanket over it, so long as we get her indoors ASAP. But not getting my mani tomorrow, and backing out of Thurs. night's winemaker dinner four blocks from here. (Too cold to walk, too stupid to drive home after all that wine, and too embarrassed to call an Uber for a 1/4 mi. ride). Surprised if it isn't cancelled.

Don’t blame ya Sandy. Talked to my mom in Wisconsin a little earlier tonight and she said she isn’t going outside unless she absolutely has too. I told her that is a smart idea.

Good news, I saw my MO today, and the mammogram and labs look good. I'm due for a bone density scan. They do them every other year. Not looking forward to it, but I guess it is good that they monitor it. I just wish bone loss wasn't a side effect.

Iris, glad to hear the nurse caught that shunt problem. I've met some incredibly sharp nurses.

Mommy, that's great news about your scan!

Lucy, I've heard it's as crazy hot on your side of the world as it is crazy cold here. Not surprised you'd get heat rash!

It's supposed to be 25 below overnight here. School is closed for two days, and I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being three.

Cubbie, don't fear the DEXAScan. I was osteopenic even before starting treatment. Two years later--due to Prolia shots and daily calcium/D3/magnesium/K2--my scan showed improvement on all measurements--with one (an arm, I think) now deemed "normal."
