yes, Sandy, I am glad that he is at least willing to follow some systems/take some precautions! It must be very scary for you...If I were in your shoes, I think I'd emphasize how much it scares you to think about losing him...

I was asked to quarantine myself because I was exposed to someone with COVID, and my husband didn't have the same exposure. I banned him from our bedroom (mostly because if I was going to have to spend a lot of time in the room, I wanted the one with a door that leads straight out to our back porch..) and he started using only our guest bedroom and bath. The 14 day period has passed as of today and I washed my bedding and will let him back in tonight: but I feel better that he wasn't in the (bed)room until we knew the danger had passed.

One small irrelevant silver lining: after one night there he told me that we needed to buy new bedding for our guest room as what was in there wasn't comfortable or warm enough...I guess the guests we've had are too nice to complain, but good to know! As soon as I can, I will be shopping for a really nice set for that room...

My nephew is a hospitalist in California and seeing mostly COVID patients right now. He isn't getting adequate PPE...however, the hospital (a private one, not sure public ones would do it even if they could afford this?) did take the step of housing all medical personnel in nearby hotels so they wouldn't have to go home to family (especially since the PPE are inadequate, and the hospital knows it!). Granted, that may not be the best news to younger spouses if they are left with kids to care for by themselves..but it does show some recognition that those on the front lines could get/are more likely to get the virus themselves.

Stay well, all. It really is scary.

Love and virtual hugs from Octogirl

morning all, gee I have taken to taking my bp and temp every morning! All fine but a tad paranoid here. My neighbor just dropped off a requirement for me.....Milk! I have coffee but just need milk to get through all this. Peapod is totally booked around here but covered most stuff.

Octogirl, did not realize you had to quarentee yourself but glad all worked out,

One of my nephews is an er nurse in lancaster, i checked on him few days ago and he swore to me that his hospital had very few corona patients....but not sure he would tell auntie I the truth!

Sandy ..I can imagine how scared you must be about Bob ...good to know he's easing back at work ...and taking more precautions

Iris ..I think we all all feeling paranoid at the moment ! I hate having to go anywhere ..Hubby was meant to have a blood test this morning...done routinely every 3 months for RA ...but has put it off ...he rang his doctor and he said not to worry about skipping it.

Octo..I didn't realise you were in quarantine either ...It's bad enough being in " house arrest " ...without being just stuck in the bedroom .!!

    Nothing much happening here ...

    Hugs to all xx

hello and well this is all new to me.

I have dense breasts and have always gone for checkups every six months. I graduated to once a year in 2018. Well I failed to schedule my yearly in 2019. Now a week before my period I noticed a bump in my left breast. I immediately got checked after my period. They did mammo and sono. The dr at the radiology place comes back to check again and confirms that it’s a mass but she also said I had some cysts in my right breast but not alarming. Her concern was the left breast and she said it didn’t look like a cyst -could it be a cyst 🤷🏼♀️ anyways now I’m waiting to get a biopsy done and I’m just not sure - I do have some discomfortand she did say that my lymph nodes were clear -

So I’m here just playing waiting game for my biopsy next week and wish I could just have this done -

thank you Lucy55 for your kind words. I'm wishing the best. I haven't reAd my sono report But the radiology dr seemed to give me more alarming info and I'm most sure she shouldnt have alarmed me - she said too many things like she was sure it wasn't benign - this is what worries me the most - perhaps I'll wait to speak to my actual dr -

Mari ...sorry ...the radiologist saying that would alarm you .!!!..What day is your biopsy ? Do you enjoy reading , gardening , a good movie ? Now this is so much easier said than done , but try and find something to do that can help you relax ...and come and chat here !

I'm helping mix some cement for Hubby this morning ...he's busy boxing up and making pathways ..and I'm his apprentice 🥴...Then this afternoon a big load of mulch is arriving for us to spread out around the garden over the Easter period ...Easter certainly won't feel the same without my eight beautiful little grand-kids running around crazy ☹️

wow, just had a call, unexpected, from my primary care docs office. I had been thinking of her as I think my seasons allergies are acting up and the generic version of my advair, I do not think it working as well as the brand name.

Glad to hear from her office and we set up a video call for next week. I feel good about that. Off to make some apple sauce!

Iris ..The video calls are so good ...Hubby has one on Tuesday with his RA specialist ..Thankfully he can do that and not attend his offices .

So want to wish you all a Happy Easter , and I hope a vaccine is found soon !!!

Hi crazies. I'm sorry I haven't checked in. I get really stressed and depressed and just don't do things I want to do like talk to you. I do read via email.

This is such a weird time in life isn't it? Ducky, how's Grayson doing? Times like this I'm thankful to not have to worry about Wyatt.

I'm a bit worried about something. Last November my oncology surgeon mentioned that my mx scar is changing and we need to keep an eye on it. Now I have tiny little lump in the scar. I'm supposed to have an MRI before July's appointment with MO but my IPA is dumping City of Hope and that means I have to change oncologist etc. Plus going for imaging during covid19 scares me. Should I call my surgeon anyway?

I'm praying for all of you. Sandy, glad to hear Bob is cooperating. I had to get Kenny to take off his shoes outside and change when he gets home because he's still out among customers.

    Love you all.

I'm gonna insist Bob sleep at a hotel the nights after he sees COVID patients at the hellhole hospital in Evergreen Park. We don't have an attached garage or mudroom for him to strip in when he gets home. So he needs to bring changes of clothes to the hotel, and a trash bag to put them in before he comes home. If it turns out that will cost more than the fees he'd make doing consults...well, do the math. He's 70. Time to retire. (He doesn't see it that way, of course). Retirement would be boring--no sports on TV, no movies to go see, no concerts, no opera...welcome to MY world.

I'm 69 with asthma & hypertension. My PCP says to avoid performing even if the venues don't cancel the shows, and even avoid shopping, I might be taking all the right precautions (plus the sanitizing, handwashing, etc.) in vain.

A hotel would be an excellent option. Or you could buy a camper, and have him stay there all the time. He might like it so much that it would be incentive to retire and go traveling.

molly, i would surely call or contact your docs office, they can decide with you if it is urgent to have the mri now or wait. I am betting they go for wait but I do live in nj so we may be more concerned about stuff as I thought LA was past there peak regarding the virus

Spent yesterday dealing with issues with bank and credit card co. customer service folks nice but i really not eager to have any new csr conversations today.

Stayed up late last night to get a delivery time for a peapod delivery, that was fun! 1am was when they opened up new times and my next delivery was earliest 4 27......I am sure I have plenty of food but wow, I am used to delivery of a couple of days!

So made a lovely dinner, Ina's lemon pasta! Highly recommend as few ingredients and fast and really good!

We have no room to park even a small pop-up camper--we live in an urban neighborhood (albeit on a block of mostly single-and-two-family homes) and on-street parking is already in short supply due to those apt.-dwellers from adjacent blocks parking here because their buildings lack garages or lots.

He will stay in a hotel on the Sat. nights he is at that hospital (every other weekend), and on Sun. night before he comes home, strip & change into clean clothes in the doctors' lounge men's room (for some stupid reason, that hospital lacks shower facilities for attending physicians--and he doesn't want to "trespass" in the residents' quarters which has them. I say it's time to pull rank).

BTW, here is Clinical Oncology News' guidance for adjuvant treatment during this pandemic:

So good to hear from you Molly! Sending love, and miss you!

I've been slammed at work, which is all remote, and I've discovered that I really, really, really don't like working from home. But hey, its a job so I am not complaining (and the work is mostly interesting, I just miss the communication that happens in the office and that even zoom can't replicate).

Lucy, I've been anxious too, but more about my eye tumor (I did tell you all about that, right?, My short term memory is just shot..) than about bc. Not sure why it makes me more anxious, but it does. Anyway, all seems to be good but I am supposed to go back to Sacramento for another MRI and follow up in early July. Not sure I want to be traveling then but there really isn't anyone here in NM to handle it (because it is so rare. The entire state has only one neuro-ophthalmologist, and he apparently is booked solid for the next year...). So, do I see someone local who may not really understand it? or should I travel? or just put it off. Not sure what I will do, in wait and see mode...

The pasta sounds great, Iris!! Thanks for the tip, I am going to try it!

Take care all; I love you all.

Octo, putting you on my Mi Sheberach list tonight for your eye tumor (didn't know about it before). You too, Molly--hope that scar problem is just a false alarm. My "lump scare" was in Oct.--after 2 ultrasounds & a mammo, turned out to have just been the scar tissue contracting around the fully-shrunken (after 4 yrs!) seroma. May yours turn out to be nothing!

I hear you about being unable to get the specialist you need. My unilateral pulsatile tinnitus has been getting worse (starts at night even before I lie down or take my night meds), but I can't get in to see an ENT till 6/22. It started in Jan. First they made me see an audiologist, whom I didn't need and who said she could hear regular tinnitus but had no way to hear the pulsing; then I had to wait a month for the ENT, but I had to cancel to drive to S. Bend in the snow for a funeral; then I was supposed to see her in March, but she stopped seeing patients during the pandemic. Everything I read (and my PCP) tells me it's not something to brush off like regular tinnitus (which I've had all my life)--it could be a vascular problem (an artery that could blow) or a tumor--either of which could cause a stroke or worse. The audiologist suggested a sound-generator app to drown out the pulsing at night (with a Bluetooth earbud), but it's not loud enough to drown out my DH's snoring, and if I don't use the earbud the white-noise keeps him awake. I have to drug myself into oblivion with CBD, melatonin and even sometimes Benadryl just to fall asleep.

The pulsing sounds like soldiers marching on snow--and now they're moaning while they march. My PCP said he couldn't hear a "bruit" in my carotid, but that doesn't mean the artery is fine. I wanted to see a cerebrovascular specialist, but my health system says to see an ENT first. The surgery to cure it is elective (good luck with that these days), and performed only in....NYC. Uh, thanks but no thanks.

Thanks Sandy! I am fairly sure I posted about it at some point, but who knows...it is a very rare type of tumor that was wrapped around my optic nerve...probably benign but they can't biopsy it to know for sure without high risk of making me blind in one eye...grows slowly, but risk was eventual total blindness if it isn't treated....so I had surgery (to decompress it by drilling out a bigger hole in my skull cavity to give it room to grow if necessary, without putting additional pressure on the optic nerve). Again, they can't remove the tumor itself without high risk of blindness. The surgery was followed by radiation to shrink or get rid of it, and the great news is: as of last checkup my vision was MUCH improved!!! So much improved that they think they killed it, (MRI still shows it but that is likely just the shell, which would eventually wither away and the 'dust' would probably come out via sinuses..I know, TMI...)...the bad news is, they need to keep following me, because it could come back, and my next MRI, vision tests, and round of doc apts are scheduled July 1 - 3 (at UC Davis, Sacramento. I ended up there because the neurosurgeon who did the drilling is one of only about five in the country doing the particular surgery I needed, and I was really comfortable with him. Loved him, actually...) July seems soon to travel. Sigh. It may get postponed.

A big part of my anxiety is that I've been having some vision issues since I started having to work at home. However, a big light bulb went off that a large part of the problem is probably that I am working all day on a tiny laptop....so I am giving in to reality post-COVID, and am making arrangements to go to the office and pick up my keyboard and big screen (there is a caretaker to let me in even though the building is closed). So, this weekend's project: creating a home office. My boss thinks we will be working from home until sometime mid-summer or even much longer, and my job is probably relatively secure since I bring in grant money (which there is to be had right now, but one needs to know where to look...). So home office it is. Have I mentioned how much I HATE working from home? Daily walks are all that is saving me!

I hope all of you stay well!

Octo- I also did not recollect your eye tumor problem, so thanks for the update. Wishing you continued good news on this front. If I had not retired 11/29/19, would be doing the work from home routine & deep into the thick of it with all kinds of financial aspects. You have my sympathies on trying to setup your office.

Molly - Good to hear from you, hoping the scar turns out to something minor.

Thinking of everyone else and sending greetings/gentle hugs.

    • I have to say with all of this junk, really glad I am retired as well, can not imagine trying to do any sort of sales in this world.
    • OOPS, no idea how my formatting got that way, must be my chubby fingers!
    • So, saw my primary doc or rather had a phone visit with her ladt monday. She asked if I had a home nebulizer, I said no but then started thinking, maybe I did have one, went searching my closet and yup! Found it! So called her as there was some med in the box....dated 2013. Littls old ya think? So she is sending me a new script, seems safe in this world to be prepared in case..

When Gordy moved out, he didn't take the nebulizer compressor & accessories, but it's pretty old. I have my portable travel one--but the medication cup & mask are missing. I have plenty of inhalers, but if push comes to shove I may have to order a new unit (they're 1/4 the price they used to be when I bought mine in 1994 for our trip to China).

Got some chilling news today: my housekeeper's DH (who is 66, a prostate cancer survivor, brittle diabetic, ex-smoker and on dialysis) tested COVID+. One patient at the Hines V.A. fell ill and tested positive, so all the dialysis patients were tested. He has been in precarious physical shape to begin with--too poor a surgical risk to get a kidney transplant (even a family-donor kidney, as all his surviving siblings are also hypertensive Type 2 diabetics--he buried his kid brother in IN last month due to dialysis failing). And now they won't test her--the rules in IL are that no matter your occupation, age, risk factors, the status of those in whom you were in contact and those family members for whom you're caring, no symptoms means no test. She's asymptomatic. Heck, Bob--who is 70 and sees COVID patients every other weekend--can't get tested! He suggested she try the Nat'l Guard, who tested one of his former patients (now an e-visit patient) and her entire household; but that was last week, before reagents & supplies became scarce. (I said it's a sin to tell a lie, buuut....). They're among the lucky ones in their demographic: excellent medical care (V.A., Medicare Part B supplement), healthful diet, and a house big enough for them to live on separate floors. She's been disinfecting everything in her house (and until this began, mine) since flu season started. Praying for her. More than prayers ought to be available. (Her sister, a Gulf War veteran, is in hospice for end-stage uterine cancer. When it rains...).

oh sandy, sorry as you seem to be close to your housekeeper, this business getting close~~

I just found out that the walgreens i use, closed as someone there tested postive. So they are cleaning everything and well, not sure how long that takes. I have a tendancy to use them for picking up emergency stuff rather than supermarket. I thought i was going over there to pick up whatever my doc called in for nuebuliser and I asked for rescue inhalers as well. Figure to try to be pro active but now, not sure. Think I will wait till tomorrow and see what is up. There is another branch of walgreens so i could go there but betting they are a zoo!

Well the ny gov just gave his daily update, numbers are better but they still have shortages of testing devices.

Sandy....if they are short of the special q tips, why can they not use reg ones? I am sure there is a reason but geezz

Wearing masks or face coverings in public is mandatory as of Monday in my state, only if you can’t do social distancing for whatever reason. Can’t find masks anywhere, so we are going to use my bandanas that I got during the chemo sessions when I had no hair. Got plenty so, we can use them and wash them.

Some people are so disgusting in regards to gloves. Went to the grocery store today for a few things and saw at least half a dozen pair of gloves on the ground. Was telling my hubby that if gloves are made mandatory too, that we should get some gloves like what you can use for gardening or for yard work.

A week ago I posted how I had done diagnostic testing mammo and sono because I felt a lump in my left breast - this past Thursday I had my sono biopsy done. On April 17th at 4:33 I received the news - cancer - I had a sense this was coming because both radiology drs told me highly likely. After all they do this for a living.

I don't know stage or anything because I still have to arrange dr appointments - I'm not terribly sad because I Prepared for the worst. My husband has been supportive and my kids don't know that the diagnosis was in fact cancer - I will be sharing the news with them on Monday - and I will not be able to share this w my parents because it would truly break their hearts, especially during this pandemic -

Thought I would update and perhaps use this forum and others for guidance or just support.

Thanks again for having this and to those who read this - 😊 all is well and this too shall pass

Mari..so sorry to hear your news ..it's so hard in the beginning..but you will feel so much better when your doctor's put a plan in place for you ....Do you have an appointment set up with your surgeon ? Pull up a chair here , and come and chat..we all know exactly what your going through. Hugs

Octo..yes ..you'd told us about your eye, when you were living away from home for so long having treatment. Good idea to pick up your screen from work..Daughter and her hubby are both working from home . It's crazy in their house ....Daughter has the office nook ..and her hubby has the end of the dining room table.. He has to share the table with their 2 kids ( 10 and 7 ) as schools are shut and on- line learning has been put in place ..and they need to be helped with it ! Ugh !!!! .All states here are boarded off from each other ..to try and stop the spread...Sister isn't happy ..her daughter and family live just at the end of the Gold Coast ...their place is only about an hour from here...but they actually live right on the border in N.S.W..so they can't visit each other !!!. Gosh I hope they can come up with a vaccine !!

Sandy..Sorry to hear about your housekeeper's husband ..how terrifying for them :-(

Iris ..hope your store is back in action soon !!

    Take Care everyone ..
