Sandy if that had been me, I would have been raising the roof and then some. While my hubby has been working from home, he has been seeing how hard I work here at home. He’s never taken this for granted and labeled it “woman’s work”. During his working from home, he has been helping out when he can, even if it is just emptying the dishwasher while I am doing something else.

sandy, sounds like a crazy night,

Well had my voice appt with my onc. Was scheduled to do chemo again on friday after being off the month on April. I have been on gemzar for almost a year which my onc says is a long time for that med. My blood tests were looking not great when I was there the end of March and her plan was to put me on an immunotherapy. So now I am set for a Pet scan, see where things are at and decide if more gemzar or a immunotherapy trial.

So what sort of info does anyone have for immunotherapy, onc says they have fewer side effects?

Have to say, have had more energy this past month

That's a bit of good news, M0mmy. I certainly hope that trend continues.

Can't give any feedback on the treatment choices, Iris, but I am glad you have more energy!

    Stay well, all

Mommy, yeah the tri state seems to be having better numbers, thank goodness.

One of my pals has a cruize booked for July, she is in her 70s and has asthma, I tried to tell her not a good time to take that sort of try, so far she still thinks she will go

Iris...I think that's very good advice you've given your friend ..The majority of cases in Australia originated from people who'd arrived home from cruises !!!!!

    Hugs to all xx

Another day of a downward trend in Covid hospitalizations! Heard that some businesses could start opening again around May 20th as long as they adhere to the guidelines and take appropriate precautions!

hello everyone and hope you are all doing well :)

So just wanted to update my status... I have consulted w two drs and both have said favorable, my receptors are er+, pr+ and her2 - I believe they have told me I’m late stage 1 early 2 as well but that will be confirmed -

As far as my options - I have always said that if I were in the position that I would go forward w a bilateral mastectomy - it will give me some peace of mind - if that makes sense -

Both dr opinions have come LIJ NORTHWELL and lastly from NYP - (New York ) they said I could do either a lumpectomy but if I feel better doing the double that it would be supported as well -

My third and final opinion will come from Sloan in the city next week-

NYP has been given the green light as of last night to perform surgeries but no reconstruction- (dr called me today)

Sloan is performing all surgeries as they haven’t used their facility for covid -

For now they can also have the oncotype sent out to start whatever treatment is needed because not all hospitals are ready for surgeries - after all I don’t think I would like to have two surgeries done when I can have it done in one -

Now I have also spoken to two plastic surgeons and one seemed more knowledgeable than the other - there are quite a few options but in the end I know that nipple sparing may not be the right path for me - unless I do what is called the hybrid flap surgery -

Tomorrow I’m doing an mri - I like to keep the wheels in motion as much as I can -so I have things ready and we can move to the next step-

any suggestions, comments, thoughts or encouraging words would be appreciated...

Have a great day :) and be safe

Mari ..glad to see that your treatment plan is moving forward ..No one can really advise you whether to have a lumpectomy or a mastectomy ...it's what you feel the most comfortable doing ..I had a single mascetomy when diagnosed in 2014, and went back last year and had the other side removed as well ... Hope all goes well with your MRI tomorrow .Hugs .

Mari, only you can know what feels right for you. Those new guidelines, though, limit reconstruction to only implants/tissue expanders--no autologous fat transfers or flaps are advisable.

IL is still a long way from peaking, now that testing has been ramped up and medical examiners are revisiting pneumonia, M.I. and stroke deaths from early March onward (before anyone thought COVID had yet hit the state). Not exhuming, of course, nor testing corpses--but carefully analyzing patient charts for symptoms, disease progression, comorbidities, etc. And now, living situation before hospital admission or death. Why?

Analyses have now discounted "population density" as a factor in some hard-hit Chicago neighborhoods of color: "population density" is based on distance between homes and the number of dwelling units per building. One of the most densely populated ZIP codes in the state--Lakeview--has one of the lowest per-capita rates of COVID; yet one of the least densely-populated majority-minority neighborhoods--W. Englewood--has the second-highest rate in the state. But what accounts for the difference? "Crowding:" defined as more residents than rooms per dwelling unit. Lakeview has lots of single people and couples living in 1-and-2BR units in highrises, midrises and 2-or-3-flats. They have the disposable income to distance within their homes. W. Englewood has mostly single-family bungalows and low-slung ranches or half-Capes (most with no more than 2 BRs), and a high rate of empty ones due to foreclosures. But within each house live two or more generations, especially when adult kids have to move in with parents and elders move in with their children to be cared for (nursing homes have become especially dangerous for both residents & staff these days). So overcrowding is rampant, making indoor distancing impossible. And various generations go in and out of the houses--many of them taking public transit to and from essential jobs and to shop. It's also impossible to mitigate that, no matter how affordable housing becomes--unless the homes & apts. have many more rooms than the current ones.

Elective surgeries and procedures--with proper safeguards--can resume tomorrow. My e-mailbox is already getting bombarded with ads for various med-spas and cosmetic surgeons' offices. Not gonna happen. Hospitals & surgicenters should be able to resume doing ophthalmic and orthopedic surgeries, cancer surgeries, angioplasties, oral surgeries, podiatric surgeries, endoscopies, colonoscopies, and other operations & procedures to diagnose & correct pain, disease & disability. But vanity???

My nail salon is reopening June 8, and my next mani-pedi is booked for June 10. But I'm not holding my breath. Hair? Hahaha. Bob's bangs are getting very shaggy--he is going to have to reconsider hair gel (which he currently refuses to use). I bought him a whole slew of sweatbands.

gee, my hairdresser had her own bc diagnosis last january. When Imwas last in, she was just ending chemo, she lost her hair but it was coming back. She is the owner so really do not know when she will open. She had also just bought the building where the shop was located and even moved to upper floor. I think she may not have an option but wow, not sure about going, I guess I will wait for now but holy moly is my hair scraggly

I have a collection of decorative "butterfly" hair clips if my ends get too scraggly. I'm lucky in that my roots are coming in light gray-to-silver, not much of a contrast with my blonde dye.

I can trim my own bangs, so can just let the rest go (grow). Luckily, no longer coloring. DH is getting really scraggly & will have to do a bit of a "home trim".

My hairdresser will have to even out my bangs, even though I was trying to be careful when I trimmed them. I have no problem cutting my hubby’s hair, just run over it with the hair clippers.

We have now had 9 days of the number of hospitalizations dropping!

IL just had 3000 new cases dx'ed today, with 105 deaths. 15,000 tests performed, so that might account for the jump in cases.

good for ct! I did see part of Cuomo this morn, things were positive but still to do the mask and 6 ft apart for now.

I will have a pet scan on friday, then talk to my onc to decide next line of treatment. Being off chemo for the last month, I have more energy, great appitite and been feeling good. Just not sure what the next treatment will be and if the virus reduces my options

We just hit Day 12 of decreased hospitalizations. Non-essential retailers that were closed will be allowed to re-open but with social distancing restrictions in place. Hair and nail salons will be re-opening and restaurants that can do outdoor dining will be allowed to re-open. All other business will have to wait. Just waiting for word from the hair salon that I frequent and I will be booking my appointment! The salon runs on services by appointment only.

Not gonna make any hair appointments for June. I have a mani-pedi booked for June 10 (the salon plans to open on the 8th), but I have the sinking feeling that the cases will be rising again by then, as Illinoisans are driving into IN to eat, drink, go to the beaches and malls and then coming home to spread their germs. (At least Tanger Outlets refuses to open its mall in Michigan City). I'm going DIY with my nails (they're pretty thin and shaggy, so I've been using Nailtiques 2Plus beneath and on top of 2 coats of Essie sheer pink "Mademoiselle" which is usually the base color for a French manicure) and for my pedi, only soaking and filing the calluses and changing polish. (Ingrowns, knock wood, seem to have grown out).

I suggested Bob ask his nurses in his offices and hospitals if any of them know how to cut hair. Meanwhile, the headband of his clear face shield keeps his hair out of his eyes. His practice got an SBA loan to keep it open, and is closing his more expensive Midway office to the much cheaper one in suburban Hickory Hills. We'll be OK income-wise--it's highly unlikely that even in a depression we'd outlive our money. In fact, Bob MUST by law start withdrawing from his IRA, putting it into our checking account.

Yay for the great bloodwork, M0mmy!

IL went from a good day yesterday to a high death toll today (albeit fewer new cases). At this rate, I can't see us going to Phase 3 reopening (indoor gatherings of <10 people, cautious restaurant and salon reopenings) till at least mid-June--later if people get stupid and stop following social-distancing guidelines. Sign of the times: I went to Whole Foods today and there was a 5-"unit" max for nearly all items. (2 units for multi-packs of individual bottles of water).

Housekeeper's DH re-tested negative! One more negative test next week and he can be sprung from self-isolation!

Well, after 5.5 years being in post menopause I have some spotting and even a little bleeding so endometrial biopsy tomorrow. Not terribly worried. Between lots of uterine fibroids and taking tamoxifen for the past 4 years, it's unlikely to be cancer, imo. Had transvaginal pelvic u/s 4 times since 2015. Uterus is smaller since then. Up to 2017 edometrial lining was good... 3, 4 mm. But last u/s on 3.5.20 the lining couldn't be seen since fibroids blocking view. There are some small cysts at the lower part of the uterus. Was unable to see right ovary. Did say medium size fibroids, max 3 or 4 cm.

Since last Sat, it started. Exactly like pms symptoms and small amount blood and spotting. Sun, same. But lightening strike sharper pain on and off. Not so bad to need pills but I did flinch. Mon looked like all going away but tues and today, back in small quantities. Hate the pms feeling that I got just as my cycle was just starting. Small areas on pad looks like period blood and I smell myself like when I was starting light at the beginning of my cycle.

Factors that concern me for cancer dx...

    Bmi 37, obese

    Never had kids

    Taking tamoxifen

So we'll see. Won't know results tomorrow. Anyone else go through scare of uterine cancer or had it? Seems very low chance, like 10% but it's not 0! Plus my risk factors...

Also sharper on off pain was only on Sun.

Artista, not exactly the same but my pre-Tamoxifen pelvic ultrasound showed a thickened uterine lining; biopsy found polyps, non malignant. I then had robot assisted total hysterectomy. Figured after two decades of menopause, those organs were primarily place holders without much useful function. Path report showed some pre malignant cells in my uterus, gyn surgeon said I had made the right decision. It certainly has helped my peace of mind!

    Good luck to you.

I went through that during perimenopause at 54--had a 6-week-long period. Got an endometrial biopsy (ouch) and transvaginal ultrasound. Turned out to be adenomyosis: fibroids growing backwards into the uterine wall. The megadose of progesterone that stopped that period also got rid of the fibroids. Most women dread menopause, but since I knew that Mother Nature wouldn't let me conceive a sibling for Gordy, I couldn't wait to get rid of periods, cramps, and birth control. I had a very easy change of life, not even mood swings, much less hot flashes. (The only true hot flash I ever had was towards the end of my pregnancy).

Carole, congrats on dodging that dental "bullet!"

well getting ready for my pet scan tommorrow, since I have been off chemo since about april 1, due to concerns about covad virus, will be interesting to see results. Have a phone appt with onc next tuesday to discuss next treatment. Can you say nervous? Actually I had been so tired while on chemo, I have a lot more energy now. Onc was thi king of some sort of immunotherapy but not sure which one or even if she can get me approved for one due to the virus.

Wish me luck that tommorrows scan is not too terrible. I would have no problem staying on gemzar so will just see
