So additional background--because trust me when I say we have tried pretty much everything.
No, I won't subject someone else to how Eddie can be. He can and has attacked our regular cat sitter who is amazing with him. Actually he's attacked every one of them. The vet calls him a cowardly bully. And as I said earlier, he's not that way with either of us, he's a complete snuggle purr bug.
We can't leave them alone as Eddie will eat all the food as soon as it's down, then barf it back up. That leaves the other cat with no food. Because they do get and need some canned food with canned pumpkin in it every day, getting an auto feeder for the dry food only solves one part of the problem. They need the wet food plus pumpkin because Eddie's had anal gland infections in the past so the extra moisture plus the fiber keeps those away.
We tried the feliway collars, and both kitties lost the fur around their necks where the collars touched (they were not on too tightly). Next I tried the spray and the diffuser. Not only did the spray and the diffuser do nothing, they made the house stink to me.
Our cat sitter said she'd let us know if someone became available but I'm not hopeful

edj3, We sometimes have problems when we go away. Both cats HATE going to the vet, especially Miss Felix. I have a cousin that will cat sit, but once in a while, unavailable. For short trips, we have put extra food and water out and they have been fine. In fact, they act like they didn't know we were gone. LOL
We had bad weather overnight. Louie gets freaked out over storms. Felix, not so much.

Eddie sounds like quite a cat! Not sure I would ever want to venture into your house with him around! How is he with your other cat?
How about those thunder shirts? Or some kind of sedative if you have to take them to the vet?
I guess I have to give up on this one!

Snickersmom, when we are home and have company, he's fine. He doesn't attack, nor does he hiss. He will sometimes try to bully his litter mate (who is equally neurotic himself, although he doesn't attack strangers when we're gone--instead, he hides).
We generally cannot get pills down either cat; these are the only cats I haven't been able to purrito and pill and I've had a lot of cats. Partly it's because they are big cats, with long spines, long legs, long tails. Wally weighs about 16 pounds and I believe Eddie is north of 20 these days.
When they do need to go to the vet, we get them in their very large carriers and once at the vet's they are sedated. No one can examine either cat without sedation.
It's a real shame too because they are total love bugs with us, always in our laps or near us, head butts galore, all the signs of happy cats who are comfortable in their surroundings.

They can't.
I posted earlier today about why--no way to feed them (canned food, please believe me it's required. Infected anal glands that burst are incredibly painful and then the cat's in a cone of shame).

Maybe you could just use the cone of shame for Eddie so he can't bite anyone that comes in to feed him! Yeah, I know. I have a warped sense of humor. It's my cat's fault.

edj3, I hope something works out. I have to keep Felix's food away from Louie. He eats everything. Felix has special diabetic food and I put her meds in the wet food.
Today the sun is out and Louie is ready for adventure. He decided to climb a fake palm tree. That did not work out too well for him. It fell on a table (nothing broke) and Louie is now hiding under the bed.

Good morning, Ladies. I love the cat in the sun spot. Miss Felix loves sun spots. She is going to the Vet. She has to have labs. Poor baby. I know the feeling. I have labs tomorrow.

The arctic front is moving through this morning and temps have been dropping all night. Which means my furry little pieces of Velcro plastered against me all night long--very comforting!

I have a question for you all. Snickers is somewhere around 16-18 years old and weighs 12 pounds. She likes the little cans of the Fancy Feast pates. She eats 1/2 of a 3 oz can in the morning and then the other half at dinnertime. But she seems to always want a little more and a little more.... I thought I was feeding her too much but I looked on the can this morning and it says 1 can per 3 to 3-1/2 lbs of body weight per day for adult cats.
The good thing is that she rarely eats dry food and so she doesn't hack that up very often. She used to eat it and then leave me presents here and there. So I would much rather have her eat the canned stuff but I'm afraid of giving her too much and having her gain a ton of weight (like me!)How much do your cats eat?

Got this tip from a vet--you can add canned pumpkin to her canned food. That will give her extra moisture in her food, and also fill up her little tummy more.
I do this with my two kitties, it's about a 1 to 1 ration. They love the pumpkin. Oh and it's also good for keeping things moving in the gut. One of my boys tends to get infected anal glands so moving the poop right along helps keep those clear.

Freddie wants to eat all day! He's almost 2. Our older cats that just passed they were both 14 split a can in the morning and split a can a night. They were eating instinct brand. Freddie seems to fill.up on Weruva better than fancy feast. We feed him Fancy Feast for breakfast and Weruva for dinner.

Good morning. Miss Felix needed an increase on her thyroid meds. She slept through the night. Yay. She is a little fussy this morning.
Snickersmom, Felix is about 10 pounds. In her prime she was 13 pounds. She eats 1/2 can of diabetic cat food twice a day with about 1/4 - 1/2 cup of dry diabetic food. She licks the canned cat food dry and then eats the dry food, leaving the left over can food behind. Before she was diabetic, she ate dry food at will. Louie is about 9 pounds. He will be 4 years old next month. He eats about 1/2 cup of dry twice a day and a "lickable" treat twice a day. He is long and lean. Felix is petite and chubby.
