It’s spring here!! My azaleas are in bloom.

I think that’s how much DD feeds hers, plus a little dry kibble. Kitten is a chunk, Hemingway is probably around 10#. He’s pretty active, she hides from him. On the dog food kibble bags they put the same type info. My vet said they want to sell more food, and the recommendations are too much.

Spookie gets 1/4 cup kibble 2 a day. Kris gets 1/3 cup. Plus all the cookies they can mooch from daddy. If Snickers will eat veggies or fruit that could be an option. My two love veggies.

Check with your vet for their ideas.

our cat turns his nose up at all canned food, but it does sound like she needs more. I might try giving her more and keep an eye on her weight (at her age, I’m not sure I would be as concerned as w a younger cat). When I put on some weight and noted to my PCP that I knew I needed to take it off, she said, “not really. If you were to get sick you might need the weight.” Witnessing my brothers battle w esophageal ca, I completely get what she meant.

Yesterday my kitty Nadia (the window climber/ water player) gave me a wake-up love bite on my shoulder. Just enough teeth to wake me up.

Twelve pounds is a good weight for an adult cat. They don't worry about it if they weigh 14 lbs, but after that they're not happy. We had a cat who was 17 lbs. They called him obese until they realized he was too long for a cat cage and had to use one for dogs. He probably was still overweight, but didn't look it. I think adding another kind of food mixed in with the Fancy Feast would be a good idea. Ask your vet for a recommendation. At the shelter we call Fancy Feast 'kitty crack' because they love it so much. At that age they should be able to eat whatever they want IMHO.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I guess I won't be too concerned about how much of the canned food Snickers eats. She doesn't really touch the dry food much anymore and as I said, that's fine with me because it always got hacked up again no matter what kind (usually Science Diet, etc.). My sister has two young boys who each get 1/2 can (the large one) per day but they are much younger and more active.

She doesn't like any table foods except for fish and once in a while she likes a little piece of popcorn but other than that, she's just not interested.

At her age, canned food is better because of the moisture content. We're starting to give Squeakers some canned food so we can switch him over if necessary.

Got woke up by Princess jumping on the bed and then on to a chair. Lately she and Grace have been taking turns sleeping in my laundry basket! Silly kitties!

Good morning. Happy Valentine's Day. Louie is enjoying the gift bag. After he goes in and out of it, he will rip it up. Felix says she would rather sleep on it. She is doing better with the thyroid med adjustment.

We had a cat that came in at 20 lbs. Vet was not concerned as he was big boned. So their bone structure needs to be taken into consideration. His was taller and longer than his brother.

Wild day at the shelter yesterday. 4 adopted and 6 intakes. They said one of the intakes was surrendered due to owner's health. She was a sobbing mess having to give the kitty away. I always feel so bad for those people. A woman at the senior center had to get rid of her cats after a stroke really made walking difficult. Four years later she still missed them very much.

While trimming Grace's nails this morning I found an irritated spot on the back her neck, don’t know how it got there but I got concerned. Cleaned it and applied an kitty-safe antibacterial ointment on it. She kept trying to scratch at it, and I was worried she would irritate it more. Found an easy solution to the problem, took an old sock of hubby's that had some large holes and that I had set aside to recycle into a cleaning cloth. Cut the toe and heel part off and slipped it over the area I wanted to protect and so far she has left it alone!

Great idea. We had a cat at the shelter who wouldn't leave his back alone. Solved it with a turtle neck sweater. Much nicer than a cone of shame.

Yep! She doesn’t seem to mind it and I couldn’t see her in the cone of shame! At least she can still do everything she likes.

Wren, and anyone else who volunteers, I so admire you, your strength. Thank you.

Our stray father of kittens got into a big fight this morning. We have a camera on the front of the house and saw little orange cat passing through. Pretty soon, I could hear sounds outside, mentioned it to my husband, who took the flashlight and I could hear him in the neighbor's backyard trying to break it up. He is really my hero in so many ways, I am so lucky He left for work and I went out with food and our stray tomcat is outside, all wet in the dark, gave him some food and heated up his snuggle pad. As I went to put it in his shelter, he came out, and the other snuggle pad had blood on it. We will wait for daylight and see how badly he is hurt. I've made numerous appointments for him to be neutered and he always disappears. I'd like to lock him in a room, but my husband says not a good idea. Will keep trying.

Our shelter has Demitrie, who looks like that. He's just been made available and I expect will be gone by Friday when I go in.

Leo is a 10 year old mostly Maine coon cat and is just wonderful. He's not entirely sure about this baby thing so we've been loving on him too.
