Cracked me up!
One of my cats is addicted to eating plastic, even though it makes him barf. We found a small barf pile last night that was clearly from him eating plastic again but couldn't figure out what he ate.
Until I tried to open my dates (part of my lunch).

One of our black cats used to eat thru the plastic of a loaf of bread. She would start eating diagonally from the back corner, taking out the maximum number of slices.

Cute little monsters all of them. So funny how each kitty is so individual. We laugh about that in our house all the time.
My big fluffer orange and white boy Lester howls at mealtime. He isn't picky about what you are eating, he just wants one little taste.

Had a highly entertaining kitty boxing match here last night. Princess was chilling out on a little rug here in the living room and Grace jumped off my lap and landed on her sister. Princess got Grace off her and the two proceeded to swat at each other with their front paws without any claws showing. Grace left her alone after Princess landed two good paw slaps! Even my hubby was laughing over this.

Loving Wally, Louie and Miss Felix, so pretty!! We have two that like plastic. If you buy a new thing of toilet paper, better put it all up in the cabinet (minus the plastic), or she will rip into and shred it!

Princess decided to use me as a launch pad tonight while chasing her sister. She went from the floor, my lap and the arm of my chair before landing on her sister tonight.

Good morning, cat lovers. Felix woke me up at 6:00 wanting to be fed. Louie said it was a good morning to take an after breakfast nap in the big bed. It is a little cooler this morning and Louie prefers warm days. Louie likes to eat fake plants, but not plastic bags. Wally is a handsome cat.

I have a question for you all. My husband had a stroke just before Christmas and even though he has recovered well, he now has decided he needs a dog (or something) for emotional support. We haven't had a dog for about 20 years and I'm fine with just Snickers, who has been our only cat/pet for about 12 years. When we rescued her we were told that she did grow up with several other cats and a couple of dogs in the house but has always been our only child. We dogsit for a friend's dog, a beautiful lab/greyhound mix, and while she's a great well-behaved dog that we really love, Snickers is very afraid of her.
So my question is - would Snickers be okay with a small dog more her size? She weighs 12 pounds and so Jim said maybe we could get a Shih Tzu or something small like that. I prefer to just leave things the way we are or maybe get another cat for him to snuggle with. Snickers is not a lap cat at all and so she doesn't ever even sit next to either of us. She's a very independent cranky old lady that we think is somewhere between 17 and 20. We have taken her with us to our daughter's in Massachusetts several times and she and our daughter's two cats (also old ladies) do okay and tolerate each other.
So what do you all think??

Snickers probably wouldn't be happy with either at her age. Either would upset her status as an only child, and could send her under a bed or the Bridge. I understand your husband wanting somebody to snuggle, but for the time being, I wouldn't.A puppy or kitten would be a lot for a cranky old lady to put up with. ALL that ENERGY. Chasing and PLAYING!!! With ME?????? Oh no fool. Go AWAYsmack.

Good morning. I love the picture Togethertolearn. One on my neighbors was getting rid of a large cat tower, cat condo. Their cat would not go near it. They brought it over and put on the back porch. Louie was terrified. He hid under the bed for and would not go on the porch. We had to give it away to another cat owner. I hope it works better for that cat. Louie is back to his normal happy cat self. LOL I won't do that again.
Snickersmom, With my old lady cat, Miss Felix, she would probably stroke out with a little dog. Louie is too much for her and we have had him for 4 years.

You might see about a foster or adopting a senior dog.... you could give it a try that way.... Some older dogs are very chill.
I had a feral scardeycat and a friendly shelter tomcat, prior to getting married. My H had a dog. We crossed our fingers but expected the feral to freak. Instead, the feral and the dog (a very gentle shaggy dog) became best buddies!! And the feral was the alpha of their relationship. (And the friendly cat ignored the dog.) So you never know....

You might try fostering an older cat or dog. That way if they hate each other the new one can go back. Our shelter has a lot of older cats in foster because they're harder to adopt. Snickers is pretty old to adjust to anything. You really never know with cats. We'll get in 2 cats who have always lived together and they won't get along at the shelter. Sharing a multistory house is different than sharing a cage, I guess.

Thanks for your advice, everyone. If we do get a dog, it will be a small one and I would never get a puppy again. It would have to be at least 4 or 5. We'll see.

Yes, we have been looking on a lot of websites and have visited local shelters, etc. I am still not sold on getting one but DH does need something. I sure wish Snickers was a lap cat. I have had heart to heart talks with her several times about it, but she says she's too old and too lazy to change her ways now.

Snickersmom, I had 2 old cats when I rescued Dawson (golden retriever/chow mix). He was 2 yo at the time. For the first month the cats just hid but then Sophie and Dawson became fast friends. She loved snuggling with him in his bed. Our dogs are all old now and we rescued a kitten 1 1/2 yrs ago. Everyone gets along but Dawson is his favorite....also loves snuggling with him. All this to say, you never can tell but trying a dog on a temporary basis might be a good choice. Being able to return the dog would be a benefit if it doesn’t work out.
