Hugs to all. My 18 year Henry is still hanging in there. After years of eating a healthy Science Diet life; he is now enjoying the cheap, gravy/sauce laden meals of Little Friskys. It's more fun for me to shop for cat food too with all the exotic choices. Smile

my 9 month old ginger tom cat was run over outside my house on Sunday, brought him to the vet he said was nothing he could do as apart from broken pelvis tail he had internal injuries which they couldn't fix we had to get him put to sleep on Monday I'm devastated I waited for years to get a cat because our dog hated cats he died in January so we got 2 hand reared kittens from my mother all was going great neutered them and kept them in at night I am devastated his sister is going round bawling looking for him I'm so sad.

Lorri, I'm so sorry about your cat. It is always so hard to lose them, but I think when it is unexpected like that, it feels even worse.

I have left my cats at home alone for a week, but usually have someone come by to check on them mid-week. I set up extra litter boxes (2-3 extras) and put extra food & water bowls all around the house. They've always been fine, but I worry about them when I'm gone.

Lorri, Leaving her inside would be the safest. We have a friend who drops in to feed them when we're gone. I'm sorry for your loss. I know having the other cat looking and crying makes it much worse. Cats that age adjust well to a new friend, so consider getting another cat when you're ready.

    Lorri,

so heartbreaking. I am sorry for your loss. I'm grateful you were around and could help your cat end the pain he must have been in from the accident.

Lorri -sorry for your loss. Heartbreaking! When a child I had a cat hit by a car 3 times, though she managed to live a ling life. Sadly, this is the risk we take by letting our sweeties outside. Only in last 10 years have I had cats and was determined to keep them indoors as MY heart could not take the risk of what would happen to them roaming free. I invested in a Purrfect Cat Fence, and if not in Europe, they have even better designs over there for letting cats out, but not OUT. Recently I got 2 younge Devon Rexes. They are serious climbers and knew the tall trees in my yard would be very tempting (and no way to secure them, and overtime, even the fence gets chewed on by animals in spring creatng holes I might not see to fix right away), so i got them a catio. No, it is not the same as they don't get to chase butterfies, etc.., but they love the smells and to watch the birds.

As far as going away, someone to visit the home once or twice a day and otherwise they should stay indoors. Your heart will be happier and your cat safer.

ruthbru - What a handsome devil your Henry is. Those eyes! Wish I could reach through the computer and give him a nice scratch behind the ears. Thanks for sharing.

I had to really look before I saw the cat. Of course, now it's obvious.
