Stage III Cancer Survivors...15+ years and out

IamElaine - A huge congratulations to you! Keep it going! I was originally stage 3 with a 5 cm tumor and no nodes, and hoping to make it to the 5 year group last June, but it didn't happen. Your original diagnosis sounds like it was a bit worse than mine was, but you have done spectacularly and are an inspiration for sure - even for someone like me who wound up crossing that dreaded line to stage 4. You show how a person should never give up hope because unexpected and amazing things really can happen! Thank you so much for posting.

IamElaine - Are there any things in particular that you think helped you all these years?

Grateful 15 year Stage III node positive survivor here! So very thankful to be celebrating this milestone!!! I remember how much hope and strength I found here in the early weeks, months, and then years of my cancer journey.
Early on I would seek out BC.ORG stories of long term survivors as a way of holding onto hope. By God’s grace I am still here. Hope Always ❤️

A big congratulations to you, Charlotteme! Wish I'd been as lucky; I only made 3.5 years and then crossed that dreaded line. You are absolutely an inspiration now - just like the ones you used to like to read about in your early years. Wishing you a very nice holiday season and many, many, many, more years ahead!

I haven't been here in years but wanted to pop in to say I hit my 20 year anniversary on Nov 5th. I had a huge 8cm tumor and many positive nodes. I can't remember the exact number anymore. I did neoadjuvant TAC x 6 followed by 35 radiation treatments. I then did about 8 years of Femara. I hope this post will give some others hope! I think my original username was SherriG but I'm not sure. LOL Happy Holidays!!

Thank you @sherri2004 and @charlotteme, so much. I’ve been feeling really depressed recently (coming up to 2 years since diagnosis soon), feeling like I’m on borrowed time and it’s gonna get me eventually so why bother… I am 41 years old and struggling to imagine myself being an old lady. Seeing you post has made a difference. Thank you ❤️

Hold onto hope Clars.
I found I improved mentally around 3 years out. Things feel 90-95% normal now, depending on how good a day I'm having.
Keep busy and keep on keeping on.

Hi all. I have survived 34 years since my stage 3
B
inflammatory breast cancer diagnosis. Several rounds of chemo, surgery, more rounds of chemo , radioation and then an autologous stem cell transplant amounted to almost two years of therapies given. I lead a normal life now and am thankful everyday that I survived these decades..

Diagnosed in 10/1995 so going on 30 years living my life trying to avoid doing anything that bores or annoys me. Eat and drink what ever I feel like consuming. Physically active but do not exercise. Attribute long term survival to the luck of my treatment regime being a good match for my Dx. No one who knows me describes me as sweet or compliant - still naturally crabby by nature at 75 - but have lots of friends and often wonder why.

21 years NED for me, still amazes me and very grateful!! I sent an email to the oncology nurses at my old hospital just to let them know and to feel free to share with any of their patients. Received return emails from a number of them saying it made their day.

17 years since my diagnosis. Lots of other health issues since then, but no more cancer! Getting old is my aim.
