Crafty, nothing wrong with getting a new doggie. I lost my handsome Sheltie “son” Jackson last Fall. Still looking for a new puppy. Hubby and I both miss him and we want to get a puppy we can take on walks.

First of all wanted to thank all of you (Micmel, Rah, Mommyof2, Spookiesmom and everyone in this thread) for the kind words and understanding re: our 17 year old Tucker. And send an update because he IS BETTER TODAY AND WALKING AGAIN!!! We have put rugs and yoga mats all over the floors so he doesn't slip (the things you do for your dogs) but it's just such a relief that he is better. We took him to the vet and there was nothing neurological about his mobility issues, might have overdone it or pulled something so we have a little red wagon for walks now. The things you do for your pups!
In the meantime 13 year old Domino needs her teeth cleaned but our vet doesn't do the non-anesthetic cleaning any more. I'm always worried about anesthesia on older dogs - and advice on keeping older dogs teeth healthy without anesthesia?
And finally, our 5 month old new puppy Finley is so full of life and adorable and a character and already potty trained and knows his name that I say YES to those wondering if you should get a new puppy. The joy outweighs the burden. Go for it!

We had Kris teeth done without anesthetic once. The whole thing was horrible. He jumped, ran away, his teeth didn’t look all that great either. Never again.
Spookie is 10, she is going very soon for her first cleaning. She will be under. ? to ask, do they use heat pads during recovery. Don’t want that!! Yes, it’s nerve wracking but must be done.

I have been making blankets for our local animal shelter. My Shih-Tzu/Yorkie mix has been sleeping in a kennel because of my sleep problems and allergies, and I have been working hard getting him to like it (he was originally crate-trained). Last night, while I was sewing, he in no uncertain terms told me he likes the blankets I am making. So I had no choice but to allow him to appropriate one. Right now he is napping on a pile of them.

yay tucker!! If only Tag would rebound that way. His back legs are just barely there. He's falling just by walking. He's holding his own, but how do you know ? He can still walk so until he can't anymore I don't want to let him go. But is letting it get to that point wrong? I don't want to do the wrong thing . 💔💔💔

Thx all! And Micmel I 100% believe you are doing the right thing by letting Tag keep on for as long as Tag wants to keep on. We got a harness for Tucker that lets us share some of the weight on walks, and I have a neighbor who has back wheels for his older dog now and it’s heartwarming to see them on walks. Whether the legs work or not they are still happy so as long we they eat and drink they want to be here with us and are fine. We just have to work around the mobility issues.

I know. With a long coat, he loves to be brushed. However, it is abuse when I find a mat and need to take care of it. Probably some small scissors will escape his notice.

last night he had another spell. He was losing his bowels, and hasn’t done much moving. He wags when we enter the room, but I’m starting to think it’s the end. He’s been on his bed 24 hours. Now. Usually he is awake and moving wagging. Attention whoreing ! I’m so damn sad. It looks like it was a long night for DH. I’m Not even sure yet if he made it through the night I’m goIng to check now. I’m scared to see. 🥺🥺 he sleeps in a different room when DH is up. To give me a break taking care of them. 💔

He’s a tough dog. I’ve never seen anything like it. He isn’t bouncing and prancing, but he ate and walked around somewhat.... laying down now but wanted affection. I can’t imagine how many strokes one dog can have and make it through. I’m just nervous for the week ahead. I don’t want to deal with this alone. It’s not at all something I want to deal with.. I love this dog. We love our babies.

So sorry for your sad wait. The thought of a short life of a dog makes me dread that time for my four-year-old "baby". I was having difficulty with him yesterday afternoon, I was busy and he wanted to go outside, even though he had just gone potty. I finally got up the courage to let him free-range. He came back frequently to check up on me, but would run away every time I asked him if he wanted to come inside. He was happy, and I was practicing my relaxation routine. It all went OK. My problem, not his.
