I would be interested, too. I was just talking with a friend who managed to lose 30 pounds after starting to do yoga but also got a brand new six pack and triceps. (He also switched to a Mediterranean diet so probably wasnt just the yoga.)

Micmel/Z/DG - you ladies are awesome and motivating.. Between the three of you 14K steps, 46 minutes jogging and a full weekend of activities I am exhausted :)

I started back to work on 3/6 and have noticed a big impact on my availability to be active. My steps are down (sometimes no more then 2500) and have not been able to take a Yoga or Strengthening class. I definately feel the difference both physically and mentally. Z - you warned me about going back to work and I didn't listen I wanted some normalcy. Spoke to my DH an he agreed this is no longer my norm and I need to focus on the important stuff like taking care of myself. I spoke to ONC and she agreed I should move to LTD so I can take my classes, make my steps and feel as good as possible for as long as possible. It's hard I have been with my company 28 years and have so many special customers/friends and pears that I will miss.. but need to move on.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Ronnie - I applaud your choice. Get your lifestyle where you need it to be to stay well, and then you might find some room for work, sometimes. I've just begun to revive my business, but I have firm boundaries in place to protect my workouts and my sleep etc.. I believe that overwork was how I got in this pickle in the first place. Anything that interferes with my rest and workout gets blown off. Not used to putting myself first, but it is growing on me.

My DH and I go out to lunch for the first time in over a year and I get FOOD POISONING unreal honestly. I just cannot win 😑 Tummy Is killing me. Bad headache. Ugh!!! No running today except to the toilet!! Unbelievable! You'll all have to run for me today. ~M~

I'm right there with you ladies. I work for the state and got a big promotion last year, which came with much more stress, too much, I know that now. I just have to hang in through the rest of this year and I'll be able to medically retire with medical and pension in place. For now, I am off on mondays for chemo, I come in late (I stopped setting an alarm to ensure enough sleep) and I do laps around the building at least twice/day totaling 40-50 minutes.

Micmel - food poisoning is the worst! Ugh. Hope you mend soon!

Working is a topic that is really variable and will depend a lot on how you feel. I may, at some point, cut back, but I've worked full time non-stop through all of this. It's funny, but I think work both contributed to my situation and also saved me this last year. I am the director of a very small, but very significant in terms of revenue, department of my company. I was diagnosed in December 2015. The previous October, one of my long-term employees left to stay at home with her third baby. Then one of my part time people decided she was going to retire. A big blow for a department that only had four people. We hired one person to start that November, but training somebody to do what I do is a minimum year long process. So we were limping along and getting by though I was very stressed, and then I got hit with this cancer thing. I started treatment, hanging in there, working still full time because I couldn't afford to take time off due to lack of staff. Then in February of 2016 my other employee quit, leaving two people to do the work of four. So, in the midst of weekly chemotherapy, working full time, and teaching two yoga classes a week,I had to hire and train in an entirely new department. Honestly, I had no time to be sick . So I just wasn't. I really think that the situation turned out to be a blessing in disguise because I could not spend any energy on worrying about cancer so my mental state was actually really good throughout those first few months because the only alternative was to collapse into a puddle of tears crying uncle.

It also opened my and my company's eyes to how much I do and now I'm hiring another person! I learned I really do love my job, but I don't blink an eye about taking extra vacation days. And I get up every hour to run up and down the stairs a few times and if I want to leave early, I just do!

Of course, now as I read this I think "How in the world did I do all of that?"

Wow, Illimae, if you are getting your laps in, I really have no excuse.

DG, exhausted just reading your post from Planet Krypton. Your yoga training probably also helped you focus.

My butt has finally recovered from the bike ride. Going for a run along the lake today like I did yesterday, then going to tango. Yesterday was salsa night.  Next week we are off again for spring break so no dancing again until we get back.

    Welcome Bigbhome.

Keep your exercise moderate, consistent and enjoyable and you can beat this! Yoga is the best. I just did the yoga pose sequence posted in the anchor post for this thread ... in a 130F sauna. Talk about sweating bullets, but so detoxing. Feeling very alert.

I also got 30 minutes of cardio before getting to the spa. Exercise is done for the day. Finally got it done early rather than leaving it to the last minute.

If you fill out your diagnostic and treatment history in your profile AND make it public in Settings (see menu on the left) we have more context and provide better info. The word "cancer" means nothing without context. The visible profiles are what gives the depth to the discussion on this site.

Keetmom - Kohls cash is so awesome, glad you saved some energy for Kohl's.

Welcome Bigbhome! We start with 10 minutes a day and before we know it, we're doing more!

Great work keeping moving everyone! This week has been harder for me to get a lot of cardio in with teaching two yoga classes and my husband out of town, but I'm still trying to power walk or dance at least 15 minutes of intensity in each day along with yoga. Last night I did some kettle-bell swings, gob squats, russian twists, and then leg lifts.15 of each. Two full sets. Felt good! Trying to work my way up to three sets, but not tonight. Gotta give those legs a break as my yoga class tonight featured lots of chair pose and goddess pose.

hello. I haven't popped in on this thread since January, butI'm a big fan of exercise. I typically work out three times a week, always outdoors and at least once a week at the beach. I do everything from walking hills, to yoga, to strength and toning exercises.

I've hit a terrible snag. I sprained my foot on April 1st. I was in cast for ten days, now a boot. But I can barely walk without it starting to hurt after a few minutes, so exercise is totally out right now. The worst part is that exercise is what makes me feel healthy and strong, and that's been taken away from me. On top of that Ive had a horrible mouth sore and haven't eaten well in almost two weeks And I just found out I need a a liver biopsy....so now I feel sickly skinny and unwell. Without the benefit of exercise, I can't find a good mental state. I don't know what to do.

Stef~ I completely understand how you feel. I was also told those same words about my liver. See what happens. Don't panic yet. My surgical onc was very aggressive and decided to go in and take it out. There is also ablation. Try to breathe and relax. The foot thing sucks. I know it's just another thing to feel less in control of. I feel the same way some days, the good news is your foot will heal. I also have a wicked mouth sore that won't quit. I am using biotine mouthwash, up to the most amount of times the bottle allows and it is finally working. I recommend it highly. It helps with gum burning which I also have quite a bit of. Hang in there darling and remember you're not alone at all. We all feel the same way you do, a time one point or another. I am keeping you close in prayer. Be good to yourself please and don't be too hard on yourself. You'll get back to what you enjoy when your body heals a little. Rest sometimes is the best medicine. I am sending hugs of strength because I truly know and understand how you feel. ~M~

Stef - It's very important to keep moving through this time. Can you get to a water aerobics class at the pool, or just a swim? Can you do 10 minutes of ab work and upper body weights? May be some leg lifts. Seated or supine yoga poses? It doesn't take more than 20 minutes to make a difference. It may be a fraction of what you used to do. Don't worry about that.

I have liver mets and no plans to check out soon. If I recall, they only see one little shadow. Hoping for a false alarm or an easy treatment option for you.

thank you, Micmel. I will take your advice and find that mouthwash. In general, today was a little better than yesterday.

Z, I knew you were going to tell me to move. I do kind of need a kick in the butt. I can't do a lot of upper body anymore because it tends to aggravate my lymphedema. But I can certainly do some good stretch poses and some sit ups.

    Maybe tomorrow. 😉

25 mins on exercise bike today. Decided to add more variety as don't want to be stuck on one routine. I am happy with my total.

Stefajoy, sorry about the foot. I know how it is when you can't move the way you wish. I would have recommended a chair workout, saw a few on youtube that looked pretty good, but sounds like those would out of the question. Glad you still have some yoga and stretching you can do.

Stef~ I also have lymphedema, I was in therapy for months for it and it helped a great deal, but the co pay was killing me. So I hooked up with this organization that supplied me with my own lymphedema pump. I only have it in my left upper arm and it's like having my own personal therapist work on my arm two times a day. i have to agree with Z, I notice that on the days I don't run it seems worse. Since I have been feeling stronger and moving more. The lymphedema is also filtering the fluid better. So slowly moving the arm and making it move forces the fluids to find another path naturally along with maintaining the consistency with the pump, when you're not feeling up to doing the excersise, also the more you lay dormant the more the fluid has a chance to pool in one place, which in turn actually causes the pain! Do you have a pump ? Is it your entire arm ? It really helps me tremendously! If you are interested I can give you the information for your own machine. It was no cost, insurance is taken, but if you don't have insurance. They will bring you one for free within a week! Honestly they are amazing.! I ran today for 36 mins , believe itor not, it was actually hot! Allergies are horrible, and stomach is still raw from food poisoning! I never want that ever again! Always keeping everyone in prayer ~M~

Mara - so good to hear from you. 25 minutes on a bike is awesome. you have a varied routine these days.

Micmel - With a 36 minute run under your belt, the food poising must be over. So glad.

Stefajoy - 10 minutes of anything would be a huge victory with everything you have going on. It takes courage to plan and hope during these transitions. Exercise says that you intend to stay well so you need to be fit ... you have plans. You will do well, so you need to stay in shape. Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

I hope you pull the string on the lymphedemia suggestions. The issues with lymph not moving go beyond exercise. But one thing at a time. I would start with 10 minutes of stretching and abs, or whatever comes to mind and feels healing.

I went for a hike for an hour and somehow got 23 minutes of cardio in there. Made my step goal but otherwise a light day. Yesterday was 45 minutes of yoga in a sauna. That left me very tired, which is good. slept in, took a couple naps.

M - thank you for the lymphedema suggestions. It's only my lower arm and it's pretty dormant right now. I've had two flare ups, both involving airplane travel, and I also spent months with a therapist, which actually took most of the swelling down. Exercise has not actually caused a flare up, but everytime I try to test it with some very light weight, the soreness and mild swelling makes me nervous and I back off. Currently I'm not having any swelling, so I don't think I'm a candidate for the pump. But I will keep you in mind if I ever do.

Stef~ i also have it very mild and did have flare ups and I know how irritating and painful it can be. When I got my pump it wasn't more of he maintenance aspect to prevent it from getting worse! I hope yours isn't to painful because I know mine can be a bear! When my therapist taught me to self massage she told me that you have to Train your fluid to find other natural passages, always away from your finger tips. I guess that's why I like elevation so much. I haven't attempted the weights yet because it does irritate it. But I do find if I move it back and forth like I'm on the ecliptical. It provides movement along with slightly gentle stretching. I used to lift free weights a lot, so I know what you mean. My therapist told me flat out anything over 7 lbs would irritate and that I may always have to limit the weight amounts. Small circles and range of motion stretches helped me. I hope you continue to have a mild case!

Z~. I'm always interested in that sauna information, I had always thought it brought such healing properties. I have trouble in steam areas, because I only breathe on one lung. (Complications from before MBC). I wish I was able to breathe while inside, I bet it's so relaxing.!!

Have a good day ladies ~M~
