Hugs M, I am sorry about your Mom, tough situation all around. Hard when siblings are not taking their share of the load when you already have so much you have to deal with. I am glad you were able to get out today. Think it should have been a nice day for you too weatherwise.
Shetland, used to love that song. I feel old when I think of it but it was a lot of fun at the time.
Myself, got in a 20 min walk around the neighbourhood as it was very sunny. Took notice of the trees getting their leaves and a nice cherry blossom in our complex blooming. Quite lovely. I also did 40 mins of the interval training with Leslie Sansone. Will be getting my annual mammo on my one remaining breast tomorrow. Hate the squish but really not too concerned. All things considered, I am sure something would be picked up in my many scans even without the mammo. Will go over results in May. Not too concerned as stated. No lumps or anything I can palpate.
Mae, great job on the 5K.
You all make me want to be more proactive in some of my activities ie cleaning the computer room, getting rid of things not being used any more
0 -
Mara - You are rockin' the house with the exercise.
Clean up the computer room, get rid of some things! You are ready. But break it down into small problems you can take one week at a time. It will feel great as long as you take it in bite size pieces.
Micmel - You have cancer. You MUST take care of yourself. If your family situation starts interfering with your exercise and peace of mind generally, you know you are giving too much. If you really were not around, what would happen? Your siblings would step up. I assure you. I would restrict yourself to being an emotional support for your mom. That's where you can do the most good with the energy you have.
I booted my Dad (84, advanced prostate cancer) out of NM and back to NY within weeks of getting my cancer diagnosis. Time for my brothers to deal. It's hilarious, but they are dealing. I am Gemini so I can be giving OR self-absorbed. Whatever I choose. Awesome trait.

Thanks Z, great advice as always.

Did pretty well with activity today. A four mile bike ride, jogged 1 mile, walked another mile, and 45 minutes of yoga in the park. Just shy of 10,000 steps today.
LLMae - Way to go on the 5K. Hooray for doing the work and enjoying it no matter what place you came in!
Micmel - I'm so sorry you are having to bear this burden with your mom's health. It's so hard when they live far away too. Thinking of you and the lousy no choices, and hoping that tomorrow will be a better day.
Z- I'm sorry you had a difficult yoga class. Don't forget, you are dealing with an injury so give yourself time. I know from my own experience how tempting it is to fall into the yoga comparison mind game, especially when taking a class. You feel like you have to keep up with everybody and do all the poses as fast and as well as everybody else. But one of the first precepts of yoga is the concept of "ahimsa" which means "do no harm." It means taking the path that your body is ready for today and honoring your body where it is at in that moment. It's also telling the little tyrant in the mind to be kind as well. Any time I start to see my mind wander over into "I should be able to do better than this" mode, I try to remember ahimsa.
Shetland - I just put the "move it" song on my dance party playlist. Thanks for the future motivation!
Heidihill - Welcome back from vacation!
Mara - Thanks for the reminder on the Leslie Sansone videos. I always forget about those on those days when weather doesn't permit me to get out.

Z~ I am also a Gemini. The problem with the siblings is so complicated and so dysfunctional there are no words really to describe the idiocy. My mother has been estranged from two of us four for over 18 years now and I as well do not communicate with the two of them at all. I got rid of them long ago even before I was sick. They were into drugs and things I wasn't interested in , so I decided to cut them off and raise two happy healthy hardworking, loyal, drug free kids. That are going to college. Not jail. So I know deep down inside that was the right choice for my family. Wouldn't Change a thing. The oldest brother to whom I do speak to, saw more things than I did and took and understood a lot more of the problems my parents divorce caused. When they divorced I was 4. He was 14, he isn't successful in his life and has changed his address at least 15 times in the 18 years I've lived in my home with my kids. To me that doesn't scream stability for anyone, no less my mom . He lives in Arizona and honestly is a compulsive liar, so even if he did offer or try to help. I wouldn't believe him anyway. That's why I see the picture taking shape here. It's going to be my hubby and my problem. Youre right Z I do have cancer and I hate not being able to be, who I used to be. But I will not give up my excersise, it's the only thing I have left to control now. Add in a scan for may 5th and you may hear my one marble left rolling away. Prayers always surrounding you wonderful ladies. ~M~

DG - awesome workout!
It was rough to see how far I have fallen from previous fitness levels. Another loss.
And yet, things are pretty good.
Ahimsa, ahimsa, ahimsa.

Zarovka, I hear you on the losses. Cancer is a thief.
Micmel, your are a good person and you want to do right by your mother. And of course you want to do right by yourself, your wonderful husband, and your precious children. I guess in your position I would say that it is right for me to make sure mom and step-dad have people to provide the necessary care, but that I do not have to be the one to do it. In other words, you are not well enough to go there and be caregiver. You must take care of yourself. What you can do, if the parents will allow you, is to make arrangements for the housekeeper, visiting nurse, hospital social worker, social services, whoever, to go to help out. Let them or the sibs pay for things or let them use public assistance. Help them find resources, help them organize, etc. We cancer patients get to be pretty good at finding resources.
Mara, like you I love noticing the trees etc. when I walk. It's like a nature meditation. When I walk with family I try to get them to avoid talking about anything controversial or upsetting, because we are walking not only for our physical health, but to lift our mood.
DGHoff, thank you for the wise words.

Illimae, you rock*** (exclamation points on my keyboard).
Z, it does get better, about the losses I mean. Eventually the losses start looking good, as in allowing hormesis. My perspective. Just Keep the pain to a minimum through ahimsa.
I love that word. Thanks, DG. It implies patience and mental flexibility, no stress and tomorrow is another day attitude.
Thanks, Z and Shetland for the songs. Music is very important for my cardio workouts but I am so lazy to get new songs.
Micmel, you are in a tough situation. I was overall caregiver to my father overseas but my treatment is pretty tame now and for the most part I was able to delegate specific care to paid caregivers. Fortunately he had enough resources of his own for me to do that because there are no government services available where he lived. In your case it sounds like you will have to take advantage of government services to the max and probably will need to rely on a social worker to coordinate her care onsite. Keep moving though, as this will help you stay mentally and physically strong enough for the job.
HIIT on Leslie Sansone sounds awesome, mara.

Hi all,
Had my first shot of Zometa yesterday, Thanks to your advice, I told them to infuse it 40 minutes instead of a he standard 15. I also quit taking the generic for Arimidexto many se, so far no se from the Zometa. Walked a mile again today, now a little fatigued but it's great exercising again!
Thank you to all who inspires us to keep moving💕

Thank you for stopping by Deanna with this fascinating article! For the lazy, here is the basic point ..
Among the older cohort who did interval training, almost 400 genes were working differently now, compared with 33 for the weight lifters and only 19 for the moderate exercisers.
Many of these affected genes, especially in the cells of the interval trainers, are believed to influence the ability of mitochondria to produce energy for muscle cells; the subjects who did the interval workouts showed increases in the number and health of their mitochondria — an impact that was particularly pronounced among the older cyclists.
So here's a shout out to interval training, for those who can do it and enjoy it.
The perfect exercise regime for you is the one that you actually want do. I believe we know what we need, and it changes day to day, week to week. If this article gets you interested in incorporating interval training, it apparently does amazing things at the cellular level.
Welcome Paula. We have a special ring of honor for people who get out for a walk on the days they get chemo. You certainly belong here ... please hang around and inspire us with your determination.

I love the interval training. I almost exclusively do the interval walking with the Leslie Sansone. I feel more energetic with it. It also keeps my weight stable since all this exercise got my appetite up again.

Mara - Appetite! Hooray. Nothing but good news from Ontario these days. Wonderful to hear.

I just have to share something that has touched my heart and has made me see that there are good people in this world. Last week in my town there was flier that was being circulated about a car and motorcycle show at a local Dairy Queen and that the proceeds were to be given to a "local cancer fighter". The event was this weekend, so my daughter works for a bank in our community and on her personal cell phone gets a phone call that says the event was held in my honor. that a customer that my daughter had at the bank, over heard my daughter talking about my cancer and how hard it has been on our family and she was crying at work that day. So it turns out that that customer owns a racing company and hosted a benefit in my honor, and Friday they are coming with a state representative to present my family and me with a donation check to help with anything my family may need. I have never been so touched and so speechless in my lifetime. I cant imagine someone caring about what a small little family is going through. That someone who owns such a large racing company would be so kind and generous to even do that. 😭😪❤️ I just need to have some place to be thankful and to share, that there is good in the world , even when you don't know what is really going to happen from one day to the next, this was a special gift out of no where. I feel so honored that they cared enough. I'm going to go take a run and enjoy the sky and the spring smells. God bless you all. ~M ~

Grace, the interval training video can be found on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlEVVzbwnQI
This is my favourite one. I do this at least twice a day.

so encouraging Micmel! That kindness sounds like fantastic fuel for a run too! Keep it up!
I've been running last several days and still enjoying yoga! Next chemo is next week so plan to enjoy the spring weather weekend hereto the max. Keep it up everyone!

Micmel - That is an amazing story. I am so glad you will get the help. I am impressed at your ability to take in all that kindness ... I would want to hide under rock, wouldn't know what to do. You turn it into fuel for a run ... nice work.
Livebig - I am still trying to get my mind around the fact that you run through chemo ... it's so inspiring to see you do well with this treatment.
I sat around all day. Today's excuse is that my PET scan is tomorrow. Mustn't exercise! Of course the PET scan didn't stop me from having ice cream before bed ... And it doesn't explain why I did nothing yesterday. And this weekend I volunteered to chaperone the middle school choir trip to Denver. Heading out Friday morning. Not much is going to happen till Monday.
A quiet week occasionally is good.
Move for me everyone!!

Thanks for sharing, Micmel. So touching. Someone is looking after you.
Thanks for the vid, Mara. Way to go on twice a day! I think the arm movements will be great for the truncal lymphedema I seem to be getting again.
Enjoy the nice weather this weekend, livebig.
Good luck on the scans, Z!
Paula, kudos on advocating for yourself on the Zometa infusion.
Deanna and Z, I want to be an older cyclist
No scans but took a rest day anyway yesterday.

Z~ am sending you strength and prayers for an awesome scan. I am with you, my scan is a week tomorrow. I think that drives me insane! I am a little un easy about being the focus of something like this, when I really don't enjoy going out in public very much anyway. But to think that someone who want to help a small little family from a very small town warms my heart to no end, and pray everyone fights for fitness and those happy days we all need so much! I did run for 30 mins. It was much needed fuel for my fire!! Thank you all for the kind words. I pray for us all every night. ~M~

Z- Hope the PET scan brings good news!! Totally support the need to unwind and rest some days! You will need the energy for chaperoning this weekend!
Micmel- So nice to see you receiving kindness from your community! There are some wonderful folks all around us. It renews our faith in people.
Sending a group hug to everyone for effective treatments, easy SEs, clean scans, good workouts and courage for the rest.
Checking our Mara's video!
Time for me to "move itmove it move it!"

I write~ thank you, there is still some good special people out there. Like all of you! I wish we all could just wake up one day and it would all be A bad dream.
I have to laugh at "I like to move it move it" lol 💜Shetland, she's singing the group song! That is really adorable. I pray all will have good scans and better happy days ahead. Hugs for all ~M~

Micmel - That is wonderful news that people in your community are stepping up to help you! There really is so much good in the world if we open ourselves to accepting it and looking for it. Lovely to see!
Good luck to everyone with upcoming scans. Just got my results from my PET scan last week and all is good! Stable with no new disease, so now i get to graduate to having scans only every 4 months instead of every 3 and I only have to get my xgeva shot once very 3 months instead of every 6 weeks! Yay!
I was a loafer yesterday. I left my Fitbit at the charger at home, and then it was rainy cold and even snowy here. No motivation to do much. I have yoga tonight and will get in some kind of cardio or weights. Dont' know what the weekend will bring as I have to go out of town to see my dad in the hospital. Will try to get out when I can!

DGH~ so pleased your scan was great! Clapping hands !!! I am so thankful for you and more good news! I am set to scan next week. Nervous of course, may you continue to see, Nothing but good results and happy days ahead! I only scan once every six months these days! I am so happy for you. God bless you and I hold everyone close in prayer ! ~M~

DGHoff - So glad your scans are awesome. Congratulations on graduating to a lighter schedule. The medical stuff the better.
Had a good PET scan experience.
I had a PET scan and didn't pass out! Awesome!
The new place uses a different system with a much smaller amount of the radio-isotope of glucose. I don't feel like I have flu! Awesome!
Everything is so relative. Funny what counts as an awesome day these days.
I didn't have to lie down the whole day like last time. I had quite a full day after the scan. In a good mood from getting some stuff done.

I'm starting Xeloda next week. I'm concerned about HFS because I like to exercise and be outdoors. Do any exercise lovers on this thread have experience with exercise while on Xeloda?
