Zarovka, I'm glad to hear you are starting to feel better after your fall. Please be very careful and ease back into things slowly. And please don't let our admiration of your spirit and dedication to exercise make you feel pressured to always be the super-active, always cheering mbc fitness lady when you have down times. We can pass the baton back and forth as much as we want.

SP - Contrary to your sage advice, I am headed out downhill mountain biking with my family at Whistler tomorrow. We've been here at Whistler a week. I have stayed off the trails the whole time, but tomorrow is the last day, so away I go. Gotta hit the trails at least one day.

Very active vacation, even without a lot of biking.

7 runs. no falls. not getting a lot of air, but slowly getting my mojo back.

rough summer. hope it's over. if not, i'll just keep showing up and doing what I can, with the help of the folks on this thread.

sticking with it through the ups and downs is very hard. i will say pain is among the hardest hurdles, mentally and physically, to staying active. i went to the gym yesterday for the first time in a long time and realized there was really a lot i could have been doing at the gym, despite the rib and wrist injury. but just could not get myself to the gym.

thank god for walking. through thick and thin, an accessible and effective workout.

Great to see you back after your fall, Z. Walking is the best medicine. I would not have gotten back on the saddle just yet but you are obviously made of different stuff. LOL.

Am back from a week of hiking, mountain biking and steambathing. We had glorious weather. Long uphills as no lifts where we went for the most part, except for the first day where DH and I took the gondola to the middle station and biked to the glacier which was all wrapped up at the bottom to protect it from the sun.  Maybe the strategy is working as this glacier only lost 10 meters in a year as opposed to more than a 100 for some badly sunburned ones.

    Welcome, Vancouverdeb,

This is my first week back to work since surgery and I start radiation tomorrow but today i did a short 12 minute walk, hit my step goal and got 11 of 11 hours of activity (250+ steps/hr) for the first time in more than 6 weeks. I'm back! :)

Z-so glad you are feeling better and took advantage of the outdoors!

Illimae- great news about you getting out there again:) Hope the radiation goes well and that you enjoy being back to work.

My three month consulting gig is done so I'm getting back to more retirement/ disability activity. Sunday DH and i hit the mineral waters at Pagosa springs Colorado and then hiked Wolf Pass Summit at about 11000 ft on Monday Morning. Grandkids arrived for grandma camp Tuesday morning and we spent the day on fossil hunting and geology at about 9,000 ft. Today was zip lining and whitewater rafting. Tomorrow will be another hike if I can get out of bed.

Everything hurts of course...but it's so beautiful outside. Good for my soul I think.

So good to see you all here

Iwrite - your time in CO sounds fabulous. Those aches and pains were well earned. Its nice to have some good pain once in a while.

Iwrite and Illimae, nice to have you back. Good luck on rads, Illimae. Great stepping, Paula.

I burned a lot of calories running 5K yesterday and cannot stop thinking of food today. I will do a free weights workout to distract me and then go for more chocolate.

So, I'm 8.75 miles up from the previous week and made my step goal for the day. I've also been working hard on my post surgery left arm range of motion. It's so great to be walking again :)

Way to go ladies. Hiked up the ski hill behind my house today. 17K steps and quite enough altitude. A lot of walking this summer but no gym exercise or yoga. Definitely need to get back to that.

Kathryn I love Pagosa Springs. I am glad you are enjoying my favorite places.

Hi All! I've been busy so haven't been on, but good to hear from you llmae that you are back in action, and also glad to hear you are feeling better Z!

Lwrite, sounds like a great time in Colorado!

    Way to keep walking Paula!

My husband and I got back to kayaking over the last month, and we did a couple of 10 mile paddles down the river and then another 3 mile paddle after work one day. I've also gotten in a few 10 to 20 mile bike rides, and of course the (mostly) daily walking. I've started leading a lunchtime yoga session two days a week at work and trying to get some in every day at home too. I finally got the gumption up to get back to some of my arm balance poses so it feels good to be doing my full yogi thing again and start building up that upper body strength. I have been woefully lax on the pushups lately so I gotta do something.

Today, I started with some yoga, then biked 8 miles round trip to the farmers market, then did a 2 mile hike through the woods. Now I'm super tired and ready for bed. Won't get too much action in the next few days as we are road-tripping to see the full eclipse!

DGHoff, you're amazing! So inspiring to hear about all your fitness adventures.

I've been working on getting 3 (sometimes it's 2 - yeah okay, or 1) 30-40 min walks in each day - and then I have my hour long gym sessions 4-5 days/week. At the gym I'm on the bike - which is great for working up a sweat - and some weights. I'm trying to focus on walking several times each day as I hear it helps with bone density.

Heidi & Iwrite, your adventures in the sunshine sound wonderful! Illimae & Zarovka - glad you are back at exercising.

Am off for a walk - and then to the farmer's market!

    DGHoff- You are amazing!

Z- sounds like you are feeling good!

Vancouverdeb- exercise and shopping. A great combo :)

Illimae- wow! That is some good mileage.

    Hi Paula! Love the walking:

Today I hiked 2.71 miles at 8,500 ft and plan to go back for a 4 mile hike there tomorrow. Preparing for a hut hike at 11,000 ft this weekend with DD2. Must...not ...be ...pathetic! It's a survivors retreat near Vail. Hope I'm not the only IV. If so I will pretend to be a volunteer and smile all the time! It feels sooo good to be outside! Loving stage V retirement. Except for you know what...

Fantastic, llmae! You are doing more steps than me and I didn't just finish chemo or surgery. Way to go!! You are inspiring me to do more!

This week I haven't done as much as usual because we drove several hundred miles on Sunday and Monday to Nebraska to see the total eclipse! It was one of the most spectacular things I have ever seen! It was totally worth spending two days in the car!

I did get a great walk in on Tuesday, and I helped pack boxes at work yesterday for about two hours, which was kind of hard work. I did about 70 minutes of yoga today. I'll get my exercise in tomorrow though. I work with school libraries and build brand new collections for new schools. Tomorrow I get to shelve one of those libraries, so lots of box moving!

ThumbsUp, illimae. While I was having rads (after chemo and surgery) I also did arm bodyweight exercises and stretching as a lymphedema prophylactic and to loosen the tight feeling in my chest. Made my rads onc very happy.

DG, I will have to do some eclipse chasing, too.

Exercise yesterday was running sprints to catch trains and bike sprints to get out of the rain before I was soaked.

D G - so glad you got to see the eclipse!

Heidi- running for trains counts! :)

Your step count looks super...great job Illimae!

    Everything counts, ladies. Everything counts.

DGHoff - where were you in Nebraska? I stayed in Lincoln and saw the eclipse from a park in Grand Island.

Close to my full complementary protocol. I added back alpha lipoic acid and Vitamin B ... or Vitamin I feel B-riffic as I like to say ... and the energy level today is dare I say .. normal? Not super energetic, but I feel like doing stuff. And a hike may feel pleasant this evening ..
