Awesome news, DGHoff. Love your backpacking plans and prep. Great idea to do squats with a backpack. You and Z are our yoga queens. Maybe I should get myself to some yoga retreat to help jumpstart a habit.
Illimae, sounds like my kind of 5Ks. This marathon in France is on my bucket list https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/the-running-blog/2014/sep/17/marathon-du-medoc-race-wine-oysters, with 23 wine stops. I might do it this year but will have to train mixing drinking and running.

DGHoff- when I went to Europe in 2014 we took only trains so lots of lifting my suitcase. My son told me about some exercises to do and it really helped. One is the farmer’s walk ( you can look it up on YouTube) then triceps, biceps and overhead weights to strengthen upper back so you can get the backpack on and off. Legs can get stronger walking uphill with the pack- or up your stairs.

You are all so inspiring! I'm eager to hear about the backpacking trip and 5 k events
Z- Its good to see you are home safe and doing light yoga after last week! You go girl!
Okay...back to the gym tonight and kettle bells tomorrow. The interior painting i nearly done so my ladder step count has dropped. Still need to redo a room because I think it's too shiny. Does OCD count as a side effect?
On another topic...my daughter in CO is expecting a baby girl this summer!!! I NEED to stay healthy. Thanks for the inspiration ladies

lwrite - Congratulations on the incoming grandbaby. Yes you must stay health... so take exceptional care of yourself.

Illimae - Boom.
Hi Mara - how are you doing?
I am the hot yoga queen this week. 6 of 7 days at the spa doing yoga in the steam room. Yeah, I am hot.

I've managed for each of the past two weeks to finally hit the 150 minutes of exercise per week goal. I swan 3 days each week, walked vigorously 2 days, and hiked uphill for 1 day. I also walk the dog but don't count that as he stops to smell everything (he's a beagle).
I'm exhausted but I love that my body is feeling stronger. It gives me a great mental boost. Now if I can just get my mind focused on work and get rid of this nasty fatigue.
This is week 3 of my resolve to exercise because it does so much good for me, and I'm happy to say that I swam for 35 minutes. And even better, I sat in the parking lot for a good 10 minutes debating whether I wanted to go in and go through the hassle of changing, etc....AND I GOT OUT OF THE CAR! yippee

Jen - I so happy to hear you have been able to lay the foundation for a solid exercise. 150 minutes is a great level to maintain. What's your plan for this week?

Being home today with a sick kid didn’t help but I’ll walk wed and thurs and then swim fri, sat and Sunday. Going to try to make a meditation or yoga class this weekend too

Ok, I've kicked it up a notch. After my off-week of Ibrance, where I felt like a truck hit me, I went up to our shed where an inherited stationary bike and elliptical trainer reside, and biked for 30 minutes. My slowest pace ever, but I stayed on and "revved up" my RPMs for 10 seconds every minute.
The thing that bugs me is my shortness of breath. Scans don't show anything in lungs or chest. Not sure what it's about, but it's been there since diagnosis in November. Anyone had that? Does it get better? Does exercise help?
Planning on going back to the shed tonight for another 30!

Go Jen!
Azs - Just show up and do what you can and you've done exactly what you need to do. There are so many weird symptoms. As far as exercise go, don't overanalyze and show up and adjust to what you can do. I can't run due to mysterious rib cage pain for the last 6 weeks. Nothing in scans. But I can hike up the big hill behind my house and so that is what I do. Every day.
I am headed to the spa for a bit of yoga in the steam room. If you can find a situation where you can exercise in a hot humid room, it does help the lungs. It's al the rage in fitness centers. Well, it may help the lungs but it definitely gets the heart rate up without stressing the lungs.

Been keeping up with walks even in tons of snow. Feels good. I have also been shovelling as extra exercise. It has been great.

My favorite exercises are walking, jumping on my trampoline and riding my bike. I also love looking at my tracking device and seeing all the steps I have taken in a day and the mileage. Wow. It always surprises me and adds up quickly.

Go Mara!
amw - trampoline is particularly good for the lymphatic system. my fitbit is very motivating.

zarovka - Yes, it is. It's the main reason I purchased it. I absolutely love it.

HI All! Hope you are all doing well! I braved the cold and walked almost every day last week except for one, but I did do 70 minutes of yoga that day, so I wasn't a total sloth. This weekend I got some great snowshoeing in, and I'm finally starting to feel like I've recovered from my January bronchitis. I'm sure I have some scar tissue in my lungs from mets, so it probably took a little longer to recover than usual, but it felt really good to not be coughing and have strong breathing again.
Hoping it starts to warm up here though. I already have plenty of drippy nose from Herceptin and I don't need the cold air making it even more drippy!

DGHoff - Good to hear from you!! Overcoming the obstacles with no excuses as usual. I was doing okay until I left for Japan on Saturday. Today I have blocked out to workout but I can't find a gym in Tokyo that does day passes. I am about to leave for the local department store to buy a yoga mat and see what I can get done in my room.

Sorry you are having trouble finding a gym, I am confident you will find a mat to suit your purposes though Z.
Walked for about 75 mins out in the rain. My feet were soaked BUT it is very warm here so taking advantage of no ice. Put my sneaks and socks in the dryer. Good as new for tomorrow. Will try old boots to see if they will help with the water tomorrow since we are having nonstop rain here.

Way to walk through the rain, Mara. How are you doing, generally?
I finally got an hour of yoga in today. If I haven't done yoga for a while the first time back on the mat is really hard. A lot of nausea and dizziness. In this case there was a 13 hour flight and a 15 hour time change between today and my last practice. It was pretty tough. Gotta keep that in mind and go slow.
I have a decent walk to and from the clinic ahead of me today.

Z- sorry to hear the nausea is bothering you with the yoga. Sun salutations, for example, can be hard as the constant forward and backward can cause dizziness and messes a bit with blood pressure. Especially when rising up to standing from a forward fold. You could try doing some moon salutations instead which can be a little less intense. See sequence below. I like these for evening or for when I just don't feel like I have the full energy for the sun salutations.

Thanks DGHoff - I am going to give it a whirl right now.

I am still feeling good Z, thanks for asking.
Sorry to hear about the nausea. Hope it subsides soon. Good luck with the yoga.

Yay Mara. You are amazing. Keep walking. How's your routine going this week?

Thanks Z, I feel the same about you and everyone else here.

Good luck on the MRI tomorrow, mara. Hoping for status quo of things going well. That is a neat graphic, DGHoff, thanks. Had never heard of moon salutations, will definitely try it out. Z, try some Japanese ginger tea (shogayu) for the nausea or just to support your immune system.

Yoga is the cure for what ails me these days I have to say. If I can drag myself through an hour of yoga, I get my energy back. All my aches and pains are mitigated. Still have nausea though. Ginger tea sounds like just the ticket, thanks.
After two rough days, I got myself to the fitness center in our new hotel and did my hour of yoga followed by an hour in the sauna and steam room of a nearby public bath. Better situated here in Shinjuku with respect to fitness and spas and it is helping.
