    yay, we're friends! Hug

I find fitbit stuff so counterintuitive & some stuff you can only do in the app, while others are best on the website blah blah. But I love the actual product...

    Thank you Ladies ,

I started PT when I was first diagnosid with stage 4,that only lasted about 2 months, the paxlitaxel and H&P hit me hard. I Didn't keep up my fitness very much at all. Now I'm only on H&P starting to feel much better. I want to increase my activity. I like the idea of 5 min at a time. I think I could do that. Went back to PT but the exercise I did on the revaluation did me in. I couldn't hardly move and had to take pain meds for the pain for a few days. Glad to hear others have problems when they overdo it. I am going with underdo and build up.

    Thank you,

moth and illimae, I just sent both of you friend requests on Fitbit. My user name is Carol S. and my profile picture is of Jeeves trying to get to a squirrel in a tree.

    Got it & accepted Carol!

hey fitbit peeps, I'm doing my 2nd solo challenge. I did Vernal Falls and now I'm doing "Valley Loop". It just counts your steps and plots them on a trail and gives you photos of landmarks once you reach certain points on the trial. There are only a few & I think they're all in Yosemite? Its silly but fun.

Moth, those are gun challenges with some great views.

I don't have a Fitbit so will just post walking. Walked two hours outdoors throughout the day in the snow yesterday. Will walk more today since it is nice and sunny.

Mara I love snow and walking in the snow, I love the calmness feeling that snow gives me, I hope you enjoyed it.

No walking today because of strong wind, yesterday was a short 20 minutes walk, my breath wasn’t on my side.

Well, I only hit abut 8,000 steps yesterday and didn't reach my goal of 12,000. My housekeeper was here, so I was hanging out on the front porch for a while and didn't get to use my elliptical. Then I had a brain MRI at 5:00 PM, so between travel and the waiting and the exam, I just didn't get more steps in. Oh well. I've learned to give myself a break. Today is a new day.

    Cheers, everyone!

BTW, walking in the snow is a lot harder than walking on the sidewalk, so Mara, my hat's off to you. I suppose I could try walking in the sand, but then my husband would have to drive me there. Sidewalks work fine for now. :)

I am glad you are giving yourself a break. I do the same whether it has to do with steps, what I have eaten or if I have decided to get dressed. Life is too short when I am on my own to worry about steps or diet during the pandemic.

I am going to do 3 walks today for about 20 to 30 mins each outdoors between surveys and my soap opera. It was sunny earlier but decent weather. We have not had much snow which has been nice. I don't mind cold weather since I have fleece layers to put on.

PS, 8000 is just as valid as 10000 or 12000 in my opinion.

I find I’m not coming on here too much anymore since I found a FB group for triple negatives on Trodelvy. But I didn’t want to just disappear altogether without wishing you all well with keeping active, everyone has been so encouraging & inspiring!

Sinus infection seems to have shuffled off finally, so I got on the bike today for a half hour, then bands (shoulders, hips, squats - not deep, just to the couch!). I'd love to take my nightly walk tonight but its below freezing and I don't feel like rummaging in boxes for my winter hats. Probably best to stay home and keep the head warm!

    Snow-drop, way to push yourself!

I've been enjoying doing Zumba M/W/F + two 30 min walks every day. I want to add some yoga on Tuesdays & Thursdays & at least 1 weekend day. I'm also working on extending my zumba. I did 22 min of Zumba this past Friday & am going to work up to hopefully ~32 min by next Friday

    let's keep moving :D

I am here, not posting as I did not exercise at all this weekend, just was really lazy. Ready to get about some walking Monday I think. Today I washed my bedding which took all day since I only have apartment size washers and dryers. At least the two washers in the tub took care of the blanket washing quickly.

My Zumba workout for today is done. I did it a bit earlierin the day than usual as I wasn't concentrating on what I was doing anyway so I thought let's just dance! 24 min today, incl 18min mix of cardio/peak. Added a new song today & already have another one added for the workout on Wed.

I've been adding distance to one of my walks with Olive for the last few days as well, so getting my daily step counts up.

I would be interested. Unfortunately, I use a GPS watch/strava so I don’t know if I could convert that steps??

lehrski, when got my Fitbit, I was supposed to measure the length of my stride and enter that into my Fitbit stats. I think the "average" is 10,000 steps equals 5 miles. With my stride it takes me about 12,200 to get to 5 miles. If you have a way to measure your stride for a given distance, you could convert your GPS mileage into steps. Just a thought. :)

I took my FitBit off a few days ago to charge and haven't put it back on yet and definitely notice Ive been parking my ass a bit more than normal. Its also been cold, but its now raining tonight so I will be out having a walk in a moment.

Rode the bike for my minimum 20 minutes today. Really wanted to do more but mentally just wasn't feeling it. So long as I get on and try for 20 then that is good enough. The weather, this lockdown, everything is just mentally tough right now (and no, not even including cancer in there!) and everyone seems deflated and just hanging on. Couple more weeks and it will get better.

Sondra, I can understand the tough times dealing with being locked down and the pandemic. In my case, I find myself barking at hateful people online and I have deactivated my twitter and unliked or blocked facebook pages that usually have comments that trigger me. I was not so bad about social media before but I think I have had it. Going forward, am not going to let myself comment on pages. Won't even read them anymore.

I did get in a nice walk today and did some of my to do list done. Not going out again but that is OK.

I decided I need to up my step count a bit and see if I can stop this weight gain. Depending upon which scale I'm on (mine or the clinic's) I've gained 7-8 pounds since I was diagnosed with the mets and started treatment. I know it's not a lot, but I really need to stop it before 5 pounds turns into 10, and 10 turns into 20...

I'm going to try to hit 15K steps every day. Yesterday I walked twice and then worked on the elliptical. My husband and I usually go on a walk together in the evenings, but yesterday evening, he was on a Zoom meeting. He finished about 8:00 and asked if I wanted to go for a walk with him. I said, "Yes!" So I got in just over 20K yesterday. but my weight was up .2 pounds. Oh well. I'm not giving up.

Sunshine, that’s big stepping, good for you!

I’m finding myself slow to get back into the swing of things but considering the challenges of the last 12 months, I’m giving myself a break. Weather looks decent tomorrow, so I’ll walk.

I was going to walk to my echo tomorrow morning. Was looking forward to a snowy walk but my older brother texted about taking me shopping and when I mentioned my appointment, he offered to drive me. It will give me a chance to see him and get a few groceries. If I am up early enough, I will walk beforehand. We will see.

Good job on the steps Sunshine, don't forget to account for additional muscle you may be building. Look for how your clothes fit as a good indicator. If they keep getting tighter, more strength training may be in order. Muscle weighs more than fat and I would not be surprised if you are building more muscle with all that activity. Our drugs may play a role as well as chemopause if you have gone through it.

illimae and mara, thanks for the encouragement. I kind of stress over keeping my weight under control. Of course, I have a husband who burns off everything he eats. If he eats a big meal before bed, he just roasts and flings off the covers. He's super active with running, surfing, hiking, rock climbing, etc. I suppose if I were that active, I'd stay thin.

I happen to love spread sheets, so I use them to track my weight, and I just started using it to track my steps again. I also track all my blood counts (CBC, CMP, CEA and CA 27.29). I tracked blood counts the first time, too, although my MO at that time didn't track tumor markers.

Interestingly, my RBC, HGB and HCT were quite high when I was first treated in 2008. My MO always asked if I smoked, which I never have. Then, after I was done with treatment, my PCP referred me to another hematologist/oncologist and he treated me for polycythemia. I had therapeutic phlebotomy sessions for a while - I forget how long. Anyway, I basically stayed stable, so he discharged me. My counts are closer to normal now- sometimes a little high, sometimes a little low, but my MO doesn't comment on them, so I'm assuming that it's not a cause for worry.

Sorry if I got off on a tangent here. Feeling chatty tonight. :)

Sunshine, that is good to be organized if it fills you with purpose. If tracking all the walking or weight checking causes sad feelings. Give it a rest and simply use a pedometer when you walk. Again, I am back with the clothing thing. If they fit, that is great and leave it at that. If not, incorporate some weight training and a bit of smaller portions.

I will say I have gained weight since my diet was changed. I was lightheaded and low blood pressure before I incorporated black beans and spinach as the basis. I don't like most vegetables so these two foods combined with a little shredded cheese, and cooked in the microwave for a couple of miniutes with a bit of queso and wheat bran for even more fiber is good. I will also put a few crushed tortilla chips in for the crunch. That is what I eat most frequently. I am not going to give myself a hard time because I have not passed out while on the toilet since. My bloodwork no longer shows anemia. I refuse to change. I acknowledge I need more strength training and squats would be helpful. I do walk most days. Would have walked through the snow to the hospital for my routine echo but my older brother kindly offered to drive, not going to turn him down. We will go shopping later.

I did a 20 minute walk on the treadmill, will get some walking as he is taking me shopping for groceries. I still may sneak out for a walk just to go up and down my street as a challenge when I get home from echo and shopping. My boots have antislip soles and I should put them to good use.

Edited to add, no I will not walk outside. Snow is up to my knees on my street. Main streets have been plowed thank goodness but I am not coordinated enough to attempt the sidewalks. We got stuck when we first went to the hospital to drop me off, worked out better on the way home. I may go out after my soap and see how it is. Sidewalk along the main road has been plowed so that is good.

Not sure if we had this study on this thread yet. It does have some mention of metastatic disease as well. Very detailed and covers many symptoms and conditions.

"Exercise Guidelines for Cancer Survivors: Consensus Statement from International Multidisciplinary Roundtable"

"Enough evidence was available to conclude that specific doses of aerobic, combined aerobic plus resistance training, and/or resistance training could improve common cancer-related health outcomes, including anxiety, depressive symptoms, fatigue, physical functioning, and health-related quality of life. Implications for other outcomes, such as peripheral neuropathy and cognitive functioning, remain uncertain."

This thread has motivated me :) I have been on Ibrance/Fulvestrant for a bit over a year AND with Covid, I have gained a few pounds. I had joined a local gym last winter but it has been shut down due to covid for awhile. My husband and I have set a goal to log in 15,000 steps a day. We have 2 labs so it's good for us to walk the dogs as they love it and need the exercise - rain or shine! I dusted off my fitbit to help me track. Some days I only get in 11,000 but overall, I'm happy with my progress.

Mara, I would not want to walk in snow, either. Rain is ok but not my favorite and living near Seattle, we have a fair amount of it. Lately, we have been able to time it between rain storms and spring is coming.

I just wanted to say hi to you all and thanks for the fitness motivation!

I may go out and walk today. No extra snow as of yesterday and plows should have been out. We will see.

I am starting a new portion reduction of what I eat. Measuring everything so I can see how many calories I am actually eating. Even though I walk quite a bit, I am still gaining significant weight. My normal ideal weight for my bone structure is between 170 to 180 pounds and I have now got over 200. It should work better to measure foods. I can eat whatever I want, just smaller portions most days. This should be most days of the week with an allowance made if going to older DB for lunch. Peanut butter is also included as well.

I will try to maintain 1500 to 1800 calories per day. Still eating all the beans, spinach, shred cheese and wheat bran and bran cereal as well. I will see how I feel as well, if I lose energy I will put more meals more often. I think if I take the time to plan it out by measuring, I can do better for myself. My little burgers are not bad either. They are about 300 calories dressed up. Not trying to starve but since I am 50, I do need to watch more what I am eating. Thank goodness queso is not high in calories. I would miss it. Will let you know if I lose any weight. I may just pedal the elliptical after my shower instead. Really cold outside.

    Hello fitness friends,

Moth thanks for sharing the article and the encouragement.

Another bonus for walking I found, been in lazy mood while searching a tv program, luckily found a short show about benefits of walking, here are some summaries : “simply walking everyday increases serotonin and dopamine levels which both help to decrease significantly depression and increase brain function.” “Walking medication- focusing on the physical experience of walking and component of steps, brings mind and body in a peaceful sync and significantly reduces stress and of course helps for better and deeper sleep.”

I had to take few days off of working out, long story don’t want to take energy of this wonderful thread, but I am here now! Today’s plan is light stretching and 30 minutes walk, less than this, would be also ok ;)

Mara, I would use elliptical if outside is cold, take care.

Thanks for the advice Snowdrop. Admittedly, I was on the couch most of the day because my rewards site was offering 40.00 american to reach a certain level on a slots game. I managed to finish it within a short time but did use it for a few hours. Way more than a survey would be worth.

I will say that I did stick to my diet, am feeling more hungry but will stick with it. May need to figure some stuff out with more low calorie, high protein. I did eat everything I normally do but will need to probably drink more during the day to fill my stomach.

I will walk tomorrow as there was no additional snow today. Don't mind the cold. I did find my apartment cold due to the wind so I wore a hoodie and fleece pants. I have a heater but was doing laundry and the apartment's circuit breaker would trip using a dryer and heater. I was comfortable the rest of the day.
