reviewing my notes, I saw around this time last year I could only walk 5 minutes with walker, being in so much pain and fear of falling and my legs were weak and numb. I am actually pleased to record my activities it is one of good things I have done for myself! that notes motivated me to start walking again despite it wasn't easy after 2/5 months discomfort plus mri confirmed sources of pain are benign cysts- another good motivation. I am pleased to report that I am back on track and have started walking twice a day (2x 15-20 minutes) since Saturday and so far there isn’t any complications unlike last month which sent me to bed again. I am exhausted around early evening but I feel good at the same time, I am sure I get use to it in few months.

Mara thanks again for tips and sharing your daily activities, for me it is so motivating. Short-distance wlking twice a day is a smart plan to manage tiredness and gradually reach the goals. I'll stick with this plan for few months then I might be able to increase the course?! We'll see.

Chicagoan, thanks for sharing the link, yoga, I'll follow your thread as well.

Hello Mae, lehrski, Moth, Andy, Momchichi, everyone 👋

Snowdrop, that sounds like a good idea. A little bit of walking a couple of times a day is just as good as a long one, enjoy your progress.

Thank you for the videos Chicagoan, I am always very intimidated with yoga as it is hard for me to get up off the ground but yours looks modified. I'll take a look.

I did manage 10000 today. Walked 3500 this morning while cooler. Did another 3000 with 3 1000 walking on the spot intervals inside where it is cooler and the rest came from grocery shopping with my brother. Big store, I usually walk, pick up one thing and drop it off in the cart and go back for the second thing for more steps.

    Good job Mae!

Just doing my thing at home since it is too hot outside to walk. Walking on the spot for anywhere from 1 to three songs, fitting in housework in between as well as my surveys and little money making sites online. Still aiming for 10000 steps, already at 4500. I walk on the top of my step bench so I don't annoy the neighbour.

My area is still locked down so nowhere to really go for a while and I have no room for more groceries. At least this way, make a little money at home, do some needed housework and still get exercise.

Finished my base 10000 steps early today. I can sit around the rest of the day and do my surveys or do other things. I walk 3 separate walks that give around 3300 steps each. I also prefer to walk on an empty stomach as I feel much more effort when digesting a meal at the same time. Hope everyone else is having a good day.

Hi mara, needed to read your post today as it's inspiring to me. I've had some pain & weakness setbacks and the lung pnumonitis has had a negative effect on my cardiovascular fitness but I've been gradually improving. I just need to keep pushing a bit more. I had chemo last Thurs & by today I should be more back to normal so I will schedule more activity.

I've been doing ~5000-6500 steps most days but I feel like I could move that up more. I also want to add again some resistance work. I don't feel strong right now.

Moth, great job with the 5000 to 6500 steps. Rest as you need to, push when you can, you are doing excellent.

imageDid a 2 mile hike at the Cascades waterfall yesterday am, it was mostly uphill with lots of rock climbing, I was out of breath a couple times but did it anyway. Back to my IV chemo today.

Well, the humidity is on its way. Looks overcast today so will stay indoors and get steps walking on the spot. Lifting my legs same amount as outside and picking different cardio music as well. 150 bpm for about 10 minutes gave me a nice sweat. Next music is running music with 175 bpm. I still want my 10 to 15 thousand steps. Not going to be doing as much outdoor walks when it is hot. These cardio songs with the really fast beat will help the step total add up faster and made me sweaty as well. Shorter bursts like 5 to 10 minutes as these are a much faster pace than I am used to.

Too stinkin hot for my taste, walking on the spot on my stepbench. Pulled up some youtube music at 130 to 175 beats per minute. Nice fast pace to work me out. Much faster than my normal walking. 10 mins or so each session until I reach at least 10000. It all counts,

good work Mara! I can't resist in hot weather too, so basically I can't walk or do anything in hot sunny days. If I have energy I walk early morning or evening after dusk.

    Beautiful pictures imagine.

    Mae how are you?

Moth, agreed this thread and Mara are inspiring to all of us.

Snowdrop, I’m good, thanks for asking. I haven’t been very active lately though, it’s been raining so much in Houston, so I’m using this weather to rest. Fortunately, the forecast looks dry enough for neighborhood walks.

oh mae, you'd hate the pacific northwest lol. Last week we had some real downpours. I walk in rain all the time but every once in a while we get such heavy rain that it's crazy.

I've been more active - less time sitting, more time puttering around in closets, sorting, purging stuff. But it doesn't necessarily add up as steps. Still, sometimes it's exhausting all the lifting and moving etc so I think it's a good workout too.

You’re right Moth, I was raised in sunny Southern California, rain isn’t my thing. Also, my eyebrows never filled in after chemo, so water just runs down into my eyes, it’s so annoying!

Moth, I would take the more reasonable weather in BC than here any day of the week. Right now we are getting highs in the 30's feeling like 40, thanks southern Ontario and if this is an indication of summer, no thank you. I will walk when I must but do the most inside. Morning walks may work as well. I also have a neck fan so when it is not raining, I will try that out.

This little fella was running to pass the pavement, seems very determined! I took this photo few days ago when the weather was cooler, today it is one of those hot days so probably I’ll do pt exercise inside.

Oh so cute snowdrop. Glad to hear about your indoor activity..

It is hot here but not as bad as yesterday. I did try the walk to the hospital which is about 30 mins. Normally is not a problem but was too humid so I wound up walking 3/4 of the way there and catching the bus. Took the bus home yesterday. Still have an almost 10 minute walk from the bus stop but that was doable. This all was yesterday.

Today I did two 20ish minutes of walking, rest is shorter bursts of rapid walking. Hoping to get to 10 to 15 thousand steps as I would like to trim down a bit or at least not keep gaining weight. I did buy clothes like yoga capri pants, bike shorts as well in my current size. Have to look for more flowy shirts to wear with those.

Visiting a friend in North Carolina. I had no idea what a difference humidity makes. At home, 80 F is nice for walking and 100 F is uncomfortable, but tolerable. Yesterday herewas 85 F and 90% humidity. I walked 2 miles with a friend then ran 1/2 a mile and was cooked. How does anyone get outside here when it's really summer?

I walk inside when it is that hot and humid and walk in the morning. After lockdown, I may do some mall walking as well just to get out of the heat.

I have been more productive with exercise today. Had taken 3 half hour walks outdoors and done a small 5 minute on indoors and reached my 10000 goal by 10 am. Any walking from now will be on the spot in the house

Live by Living is doing a virtual Cancer to 14K challenge for the next 12 weeks if you are feeling like building strength. The goal is to be able to do a long 7.5 mile hike at the end with some elevation gain. Some folks will actually climb a 14,000 foot mountain peak in Colorado…not me :) (This photo is the view from a 14er…Pikes Peak. We took the cog train to the top with our grandkids.)

This week's goal is 3 miles every day

    Check it out at Livebyliving.org.

Mara…I think you are already in the lead!

I will definitely have a look. I can walk the long distances as long as there are rest breaks maybe every half hour of walking. Once restaurants open back up, I will get back to walking to the mall which is just over 12 km away, mostly flat terrain. I would want to do the shopping, stop for a quick snack and then continue on home.

Happy Canada Day Mara!I hope you handle the hot weather.

I had up and down but tried to walk at least once a day, even if it was short walk. Hot weather here started earlier as many parts of west coast , so I try walking early morning- it is still warm but manageable.

Snow Drop, good to hear from you, if you are in the US hope the 4th was good for you as well. Good job on the walking. I have not been due to household chores but plan to go soon.

I plan to walk some today depending on if and when the packages from amazon arrive today. Might do some treadmill walking. Hurt myself doing 20 squats yesterday so I will start at 10 today and increase by 1 per day. My leg strength needs to improve and I need more strength training as well. I still gain weight and it is harder to lose as I am almost 50. Cannot do keto or anything because the beans, spinach and vegain meats keep me from being anemic and randomly passing out in the bathroom or outside walking. I will just wait until my province opens up the gyms again and join a fit 4 less to use their machines.

Hope everyone else is doing and feeling well today

Hi all, I’ve signed up for my 1st 5k in nearly two years but I so much strength and stamina recovering from brain surgery that I’ll be using a “couch to 5k” app to work myself back to a good place. I hope to start tomorrow but this whole week looks warm and rainy.

I saw the shirts and love manatees.
