damn, so sad to hear about gumdoctor. I hope she managed to find some rest and joy before passing, I recall the many stressful issues she had with the military medical/retirement stuff. :(

I had my consultation today for the swallowing issues, it went ok, good and bad. Basically nothing can be done and my expectations of nerve repair in about 3 month was off, I should have been thinking 6 months. Not what I wanted to hear but I appreciate the honesty She did feel like I was making some progress though and to keep doing what I’m doing but try to eat/drink more. It wasn’t wrapped up in a pretty bow but I needed to hear it.

those nerves are tricky things. You just never know when they finally kick in. I hope it’s a lot sooner than 6mons though. Sending you a gentle hug. Imagine being told to eat and drink more. I hope you find some relief in knowing what you’re doing is helping. I’m sending good vibes.

Checking in with my friends this evening. Yesterday was a bad day. And I didn't sleep well last night--got woke up at 2am and couldn't get back to sleep. Today I did some stuff around the house, but just feel defeated. And the news of Gumdoctor, so sad. So with my mindset and the lack of sleep, defeated is the word for today.

Thanks for letting us know about Gumdoctor. It’s hard to hear the news that she has passed away. She loved flowers and cats and lived life fully...pictures of her view from her front porch was amazing. Her treatment by the military was jaw dropping. Sigh. I’ll miss her wit and humour. RIP Valerie.

those days are easy to have aren’t they. ? I’m sorry you didn’t sleep. That is super annoying. Especially to start your next morning. Sleep well tonight. Sweet friend

I've been away for a bit and so much has happened here. Gotta love Mae, she may not be her usual self but she's going to be her UNusual self poolside with painted toes, damnit!

So sad to hear about Gumdoctor.  No, not sad.  Sad is the wrong word. Stilled. When I hear about a breast cancer death, it makes me still. A cold, silent shiver washes over me. It mutes and sobers me. Stops me. I feel for the suffering of those left behind. Tragic in every way.

Hello to all, hoping for peace and strength to all who need it. Hugs!

Runor~Hello darlin. Always a pleasure to see you here. I’ve missed your witty posts Hope you’re doing well!

Minnie ~ Hello lovely. Hope Spain is leveling out with this crisis. What a battle to fight when you can’t see the other fighter. With cancer we can see that nasty opponent. Wish it would be eradicated. If they can come up with a vaccine in a time short of a year for this . They better get cancer cure moving for sure. ??

    Hi Gals,

I can so relate to all of you with your aspirations to do all types of chores each day. I finally did the same thing and give myself a pat on the back for anything I do. If I can just make dinner, it is a victory.

So, we lost another incredible woman to this damnable disease. Make me want to scream from a high mountain top. So unfair. the only good thing is that Gumdoctor no longer suffers.

Mae-I can't imagine what you must be going through. It has to be really hard. I am thinking of you and wanting improvement like yesterday. Love, love your pool and DH doing pedicure is so endearing. What a guy!

Booboo- we have similar taste in TV shows! Loves me some Masterpiece theater and mysteries!

Micmel-the mask your DH made is awesome! He is a gem!

Shetland-I am also a rose freak! Have not had good luck here in Maine, though. The pale pink rose sounds exquisite.

BevJen-you could never be a Debbie Downer. MBC sucks the optimism out of you faster than a speeding bullet. You are just at the beginning and there are so many treatments that will stabilize those pesky bone mets.

Rosie-I love bird watching also. Heron rookeries look prehistoric, don't they?

Candy-MBC is just so evil and overwhelming. It's impossible to stay upbeat all the time. I am thinking of you...

Today I am waiting to have a teleconference with my IR. Good to get ball rolling for Y90. Had treatment yesterday as well.

Shout out to Minnie,Sondra, Mara, Dodgers, SantaB, Tanya, Stillvin, Runor, Moomala, Moth, Philly, Minus, Pots and all of my MBC sisters

    Love to each, Mary Jane

Mary Jane— hope your teleconference goes well today. I haven’t done a technology driven appointment yet.

Just back from monthly MO visit. Got my XGEVA shot and had blood drawn. ANC high enough to continue Ibrance but dose is being lowered from 125 mg to 100 mg due to side effects. Also learned MO wants me to do scans before my May appointment... so CT scans and bone scan to be scheduled for May. Yuck

    candy-678 Member Posts: 4,169

Dodgers- I too am having CT and bone scan in May !! I need to schedule it, so I don't have the date yet.

So I think I am living in the wrong era. I have posted that my MO has done the last 2 visits virtually (well actually by phone as I don't have video set up yet). This last "visit" lasted 7 minutes. Not enough time to discuss anything. So today I took my cat to the vet for yearly check and vaccines. The receptionist asked me, as she was checking me in, if there was anything else I needed but the vaccines. I said how about a quick check up- you know, listen to heart, look in mouth, etc. She said that would be $40 extra. I said ok. Back in the day (boy, I sound old) the vet would look in ears, eyes, mouth, listen to heart and lungs, feel tummy, check skin, and do a set of vital signs PLUS the vaccines. Where did the good times go? Being thorough.

    Mary Jane,

I pretty much love anything on Masterpiece. Currently enjoying World on Fire. It's so well done. I also love the show Maine Cabin Masters. My biggest regret EVER is that we had to cancel our yearly trip to Maine this summer because of the virus. It's just too risky for me to travel. We go to Highland Lake near Bridgton. I love it there. The great state of Maine is near and dear to my heart!

Candy hope you’re doing ok today. It must’ve felt good to go out even if the vet is ripping you off for a 40$ tip. I spent time with my Onc yesterday and am grateful grateful grateful that he had time to discuss the PET and other things thoroughly. I asked about remote appts but he said he goes not. We’re not in a hospital- medical bldg. near hospital. PET scan was good no uptake. I got my shots and smiled all the way home.

Mel I love the mask. My Dr gave me a few dozen masks yesterday. The nurse told me every time she opens a faslodex kit there’s a mask inside so she saved them and asked if I wanted them. Well I’m all set for masks but my DD needs them for the kids etc.

Runor that’s a great way to describe the feeling of losing an MBC - stilled. yes Fantastic Mae poolside with metallic blue toes. Styling.

MJH the evidence of me not doing as many chores can be seen. Everything’s in place. I did do gardening and laid in the sun and warmed my body. I cooked a day ago we can eat leftovers.

Mara I guess you’re out walking.

Dodgers girl I’ll be with you and candy for your scans in May. I’m glad you were able to get your treatment.

Booboo I like masterpiece theater too. I watched downton abbey at the recommendation of someone in here and we loved it. I also love call the midwives I think it’s called. I’ll take any recommendations you have. I’ve never been to Maine maybe we’ll get to go one day and you can give me recommendations for that too.

Waving hello to Minnie pots Moomala philly anyone I missed.

Thank you all for being with me Tuesday Pet and follow up appts. It is all appreciated.

Tanya, I had my infusion today so I was out walking to and from chemo. Only thing that really sucked was not having an umbrella and being soaked from rain in the cold chemo suite. They gave me 3 blankets when they saw me. It was not bad walking home as the rain had tapered off a bit. Stripped out of wet clothes and put jammie bottoms on. Am just going to order supper as I don't want to cook.

Other than that, nothing much. Just planning to listen to more of my book Mr Mercedes and possibly watch another episode of Capture on Amazon Prime. Interesting so far. I like the British police procedurals quite a bit.

    Candy,

I can't believe that your vet did that, or maybe I can. We have an 11-12 year old dog that we "inherited" when my brother passed away. She's definitely aging -- she's a large dog, and I don't see her lasting that much longer (Giant Schnauzer). Poor thing was scratching and scratching, and we couldn't figure out why. Took her to vet three weeks ago. They gave her a med and said it would help. Then I see the med advertised on TV (my personal pet peeve because of the Ibrance/Verzenio/Kisqali ads that show up all the time). Med doesn't work. DH takes the poor dog back last Monday. Oh, no, she needs this other med -- that will work. And maybe try some Benadryl for the itching. And maybe bathe her with an oatmeal shampoo. Nope, doesn't work. Hubby takes her back this Monday (mind you, this is adding up big time). Different vet in same practice. Gives her some sort of a shot to ease her nerves/calm her down -- of course, he's not seeing the vet bc of Covid restrictions -- this is all being conveyed by the vet tech who brings the dog in and out. This time, he comes home with a third med. It seems like this time, the med is helping -- at least the poor thing isn't scratching and biting herself all over and pulling out her hair. But c'mon -- it took three visits for this? I realize that vets need to make a living too, but wow -- the old vet who used to own this practice would never have done this.

Our main vet in town would Cost a kidney. The prices are ridiculous. We go to an old house and old School vet smells. She’s more than reasonable. I think it’s cray what they charge, medicines also. Ridiculous taking advantage of the poor animals and people.

I posted a medical update on the liver mets thread so won't repeat it here except to say my MO has strong suspicions this treatment isn't working (i'm in the middle of the 2nd month/cycle so that would be a pretty fast fail) & already gave me handouts for what her next suggestions might be. Scans are May 11.

Also, I've now had 3 UTIs in 6 weeks, each with a different bacterium. Yay me. I'm now on antibiotics prophylactically.

Since you guys were talking about watching stuff, I wanted to share my silly tv watching ... I've been in SUCH a mood that I couldn't find anything to watch. Comedy? What's there to laugh about??? (said in a grumble grumble voice). Drama? no thank you, I have my own. Modern mysteries/procedurals - nope, too much tension, sadness, grossness. Medical shows (used to be my fave) - nope, make me cry because i miss nursing school so much. Romance - nope, I'm living a damn tragedy here.

NOTHING would please me ... and then I started watching Murder, She Wrote. It's perfect for me right now. It's pretty superficial so you never really care about any of the characters or victims, there's little suspense or jumpscenes to startle me, and I get SUCH a kick out of seeing all the 1984-1986 (I'm just on season 3 now) outfits & houses & offices. I graduated high school at 17 in 1984 & then was at uni and applying for jobs & working part time. I had (or wanted to have) those outfits, the big shoulder pads, the bows on blouses, those big shiny purses. The big hair, the bad perms, it's all there and just feels homey and comfortable and like visiting my friend's mom's house in the late 80's.

    hugs to everyone

Moth~I am sorry to hear that you’re dealing with more uncertainty. It’s always a job having cancer and learning as we go about how much it effects every facet of our lives. I am often melancholy, the covid has removed my ability to worry about my cancer. Now I’m worried about getting sick from That. I graduated in 1988., I loved the eighties. The movie valley girl with the song by modern English. I’ll stop the world and melt with you. Great music. Feels like forever ago. Loved eighties music also. The big chill soundtrack. Sixteen candles , breakfast club. I enjoyed the carefree feeling of the 80’s.

Tanya- The $40 charge at the vets was for a medical eval by a doc. If I just wanted vaccines, the tech could give them. Since I wanted a medical assessment, there was the additional charge. But my old vet did the assessment on ALL pets and THEN gave the vaccines. Tanya- Woohoo for the good PET results !!! Happy for you.

BevJen- Glad your dog is finally getting relief. Stupid that it took 3 visits though.

moth- I will read your post on the other Thread, but sorry you may be facing progression. Making note of your scan date and will be in your pocket. I graduated in 1988. Loved the 80's--shoulder pads, big hair, music, all of it.

Moth— sorry you are going thru a stint of UTIs. I sure hope you get relief from your prophylactic antibiotic.

Keeping my fingers crossed that May 11th scans show the trial is working. Finding that treatment that slows down the beast is a constant struggle for all of us. Hoping your trial is working and if it failed you, hoping your next treatment is the one that lasts for a long time.

While home bound due to Covid-19, I imagine we are all looking for things to watch. I haven’t seen Murder, She Wrote. In the 80s, my work shift was 3-11 pm. Might just have to look for an episode or two!

Mel- ah, the soundtracks from movies from the 80s.... so good. Big Chill and Breakfast Club!!!

moth, candy-678, micmel: oh my -- I feel soooo old. "Not So Sweet, Martha Loraine" (Country Joe and The Fish) is one of MY songs. That and "Our House' (Crosby. Still, Nash and Young) I graduated in 1968 so flat long hair parted in the middle was in vogue. It was, at least, low maintenance.

Moth: I am truly sorry that things have gone so far off the rails for you. I get some joy from watching "Call The Midwife" . It is very life affirming. I also must admit to liking Sci-Fi -- be it good or terrible. I will watch for your updates on both threads. We met in November at Cactus Club. My hair was just coming back from 6 cycles of Taxol. Feel free to PM me if you wish.

Candy~Good morning to you! Gotta take care of Our furbabies. They bring us such love. My dog had a procedure not too long ago. Quietest he’s been since we’ve owned him. Doggy Valium effect! He’s a big one.

Congrats 🎉🎈🎊 Tanya! Whoop whoop!! Bowing in delight! My Ibrance partner. So happy. Now enjoy that weather.

Elderberry~I’ve been on a Andy Griffith kick. Such a nice show. No means or violence. Just innocent Things kids do when they are so young. It’s a great show. I do love my eighties. Music my Dh Teases me always because he doesn’t like it. Flock of seagulls. “I ran” all the metal hair bands. Motley crew. So much variety. REM. Pearl Jam. So many to name. Nothing wrong with liking what you like. I enjoy music Of all kinds, Frank Sinatra, Bobby Goldsboro, Elvis Presley has been engrained in my up Bringing. I’ve seen grace land up close and personal. My mother used to drive the ELVIS tour buses and I got to meet certain people. It was fun. Now my Mother has a separate room just for rare ELVIS things. She’s obsessed! I enjoyed touring the grounds. I’ll listen to anything really. Just not blue grass etc.. I even like country. George Strait is my god! Whistle real loud’nnnnholler

Dodgers~ I love binge watching the 80’s flicks. My Dh always makes that face like he’s in pain. So I save them for when I’m Alone. Sleepless in Seattle. Did you say you also graduated in 1988?

Someone mentioned they had Which means they are either turning 50 this year or already are. That’s a big birthday I’m bitter sweet with this one Never wanted to be 50 because to me that’s old. But now. I’m appreciative of having another year. Each one I break out the band....in my heart. Soon I’ll be 50! Everyone anymore being diagnosed is younger every year it seems . Don’t understand that at all.

Good morning! Stopping by to check on everyone.

Tanja - So happy for you on the PET results! Now you can get back to your regular life.

Micmel - Thank you for this thread! I hope you know how much we enjoy visiting your living room!

Moth - Ughhh...hard news, but there are other effective treatments! Could OTC AZO help with the UTI issues? I supplement with it if I feel the slightest symptoms just to prevent it from worsening. Listening to music is the best.

Candi -Glad your dog is feeling better!

Mae - your pool looks so inviting! Hope they can help you with the throat and nausea issues...that's miserable!

We like Sci Fi and binged the Mandalorian series on Disney a few weeks back...it's a precursor to the Star Wars films. Even Tatooine looks inviting to me right now! Some people I worked with recommended Longmire (on Netflix). They have a free month promotion so we started watching that series this week.

I was laying out my morning drugs and supplements on the counter and DH started singing the Jefferson Starship White Rabbit song..."One pill makes you larger and one pill makes you small..." Never thought of THIS when I was singing THAT in 1967.

Hiking in a local park a few times a week and starting a big garden are my two current projects...just like before the virus. Replaced a rose and a blueberry plant the other day. Warm weather plants can go in this weekend! Honestly, this quarantine feels like my regular life...stay home, paranoid about germs, angry about lack of cures...

Lit a candle last night to remember Gumdoctor...losing MBC sisters doesn't get easier.

Micmel— I wasn’t born in 1988. Moth had written that she graduated in 1984. Maybe that is what you remembered?

The story about our mom and Elvis was fun. Driving the Elvis tour bus. There was a Hallmark channel Christmas movie in 2019 where the female lead had backstage access at Graceland including a scene where the movie family decorates a tree at Graceland with Lisa Presley. Now I will think of you and your mom whenever I see that movie

It was moth 1988! Same year.

Iwrite~always a seat with your name on it my friend. I hope you’re doing well. It’s blustery wind here today and not very nice outside at all. I’ll be napping soon. Nothing like that cold Day nap! I need my nap. Ibrance is rough with the fatigue but I’ll Take it ...

Iwrite: Longmire was very good. Almost as good as "Justified"

As for music, I am not stuck in the 60's (I had a classic youth of the late 60's, I became friends first with the man who became my husband at the Amchitka Blast Demonstration at the Peace Arch in March 1969) . I like Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Cajun. Texas Swing, old Jazz...my taste is very eclectic and too long to list here.

    Stay safe everyone.
