petite1: I think we are warming up for the rest of the week. Hope your joints cooperate.

mocame: Thinking of you. Hope all went well.

Hello! I apologize for not being on here much over quarantine. I was trying to get as much done as possible. I did get a lot done, so yay!

Surgery went okay, I think. COVID really messed things up, though. My husband was waiting on a totally different floor as me and never talked to anybody. I was very nervous and uptight about this surgery and my blood pressure was up. Plus, I was the last surgery of the day and starving. The surgery before me went long and I didn't get into surgery until about an hour later than I was supposed to. I talked to the anesthesiologist about what to give me because I have allergy issues to a lot of meds. I told him to give me whatever they used in March for my oophorectomy but he was leaning toward something else. Whatever he gave me was not fun. I have no idea when I got out of surgery, how it went or what happened except that I remember seeing him for a brief moment and I think he said they could use the same size implant. I remember nothing else. They ended up moving me to a 2nd recovery room and I still could not wake up and was extremely thirsty and could hardly swallow. The nurse in the 2nd room gave me my instructions while I was still half out of it and now I can't 100% decipher the handwriting. Found out by accident that the meds were at the hospital pharmacy and I had to wait 30 to 45 minutes just for a wheel chair to take me to our car. They are short-staffed due to COVID, couldn't find wheelchairs so I was #21 waiting for one, and it was just chaotic. It is 2:00Am and I have been experiencing constant need to pee. Every 10 to 20 minutes nonstop. I'm trying to relax the muscles but it's not working. I got to pee before I went into surgery but not until I got home at 7:35PM! My surgery was 6 hours before! Ugh. so I'm also getting no sleep.

Kamboka - I hope you can get the better machine. That's scary.

Petite1 - I hope it warms up soon for you so you feel better.

mocame, I was good to hear from you. What a long day for you and your husband! Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Kamboka, 28 degrees when I woke up. It is up to 32, now. BRRR

mocame: Glad you are home from surgery. I used to work in a hospital outpatient center and could not release patients until they had peed. I still think, regardless of COVID, that medical care has deteriorated in this country. If we were in many other countries, we'd get to stay one or two nights in the hospital. I hope you were able to get the kidneys to working normally now. Too bad about the anesthesia. Knock on wood, I do really well and enjoy the sleep. :) They are always amazed that I pop out of it and am so alert prior to discharge.

BTW, Mayo said they would accept my new insurance and that Cigna didn't require anything else. I might get on the books for February--that is if I can take off this additional weight that I've added since moving to FL.

petite1: The day warmed up nicely here. Tomorrow should be even better. My niece and I will travel up to Fernandina on Saturday and drive down the coast. I think Saturday will be the warmest day of this week.

Good morning, ladies. My grand nephew has tested positive for this darn virus. He is young and healthy. I am hoping for a quick recovery. He has hosted Christmas at his house the last 3 years, so changes will be made. Jim and I will just stay here. I didn't want to travel this year. I asked my SIL if they wanted to stop by on their way to North Carolina. She didn't seem to sure about it. So this will be a very strange Christmas.

petite1: He sounds youngish and healthy. I keep remembering that 99% of people will survive COVID. Perhaps he will be one of the lucky ones that doesn't have many or any symptoms.

mocame: How are you doing today?

  • petite1
    petite1 Member Posts: 2,293

Kamboka, he has had typical flu like symptoms, but the worst has been at night That is when the fever hits. So far, his wife shows no symptoms. I think that is just a matter of time. They are into healthy eating and go to the gym everyday. He is a cop and she works in a hospital, so they are exposed, even with all precautions taken.

Perhaps his symptoms will be no worse than the flu. A lot of people say that. I have been taking my mega doses of Vit D and Zinc but have not been good with my Vit C. I hear that Vit D has been helpful as a preventive.

Kamboka - I'm glad that the Mayo takes your new insurance. Another step closer for you and no hassles to go through. Hopefully you can get it scheduled when you want to.

Petite1 - I hope your grandnephew gets better quickly. A lot of the COVID-positive people that I know of felt that they just had a cold or had no symptoms at all but one thing they all had in common was that they lost their sense of taste and smell. Did he? Even my main pre-op nurse said she still didn't have all of her taste and smell back. I know this Christmas will definitely be different. I think my family's gathering is being canceled due to too many high risk people, including my greatnephew who is immune deficient and undergoing treatment. Our governor just added more restrictions and now we can't have any more than 10 people for an indoor gathering. That means that none of my gatherings should happen but my husband's family is still getting together and will have over 10 people but I decided I'm not going. My husband and kids are, though. Indoor dining has been closed now too but quite a number of restaurants are staying open because they said they can't make it if they don't and it's Christmas time and their employees need to work. We will support local restaurants through take-out.

So ladies, what is your high temperature during the day right now? We got in the 50s yesterday! Yay! But they are calling for a chance of snow Sunday into Monday and a significant snow storm on Wednesday. I would rather be where you are! LOL.

So, where I work is on the top levels of getting the COVID vaccine. Have you heard anything from your doctors if it's safe for us to get? I have no problem getting the vaccine if I know it's safe for me as a immuno-compromised person.

Good morning, ladies. It will be going to 74 today with some rain. My grand nephew started with headache and body aches. He lost taste and smell. Had night sweats, elevate temps, sore throat and congestion. He had the type of COVID test that eliminates regular flu and was positive. His wife, as of last communication was not displaying symptoms.

It started out very foggy here until about 1100, then it warmed up and sun came out. I think it got to 72. My mom came back up from Ft. Lauderdale. She and my niece and I went to the outdoor holiday lights exhibit at Jax beach. It was nice to walk through the light exhibits. I will be leaving Friday to take mom back to TN. I wish I could get some good sleep but that's not going to happen.

mocame: sounds like you are doing well. that is good news. Yes, you should stay away since you are just coming out of surgery. Your immune system needs some time to bounce back.

Good morning, ladies. My post from yesterday seems to have gone off into cyber space. Yesterday was very foggy, but cleared off to be a bright day. We went for a car ride down to the Gulf and drove around the old neighborhood. It was a pleasant day. We had a little rain this morning and still cloudy. Hope you both are doing well. I have a GYN appointment next week. For some reason, Medicare decided old ladies only need to go every 2 years.

I would LOVE to have 70 degree weather! It's snowing here and only about 39 as the high today. We are expecting a big snow storm on Wednesday into Thursday with about 12 inches, maybe more or less, depending on who you listen to...and then windy. Ugh!

Petite1 - Your car ride sounds wonderful and relaxing! I hope your grand nephew recovers quickly and his wife doesn't get it.

Kamboka - The outdoor holiday lights sound really nice! We hope to be able to just drive around neighborhoods around here. I know that people have been putting in more of an effort to do Christmas light/displays this year since we are supposed to stay at home as much as possible.

I'm doing okay since surgery. I don't sleep well at night because I have to sleep flat on my back and normally I'm a side sleeper. Yesterday I noticed that my radiated side seemed more sore. There was a red spot on it that I don't remember being there before but I was using gauze and a tighter bra with no padding so anytime something would brush that area, it bothered me. So I changed to a more padded bra today so hopefully it will be fine. I have a telehealth appointment with the NP tomorrow morning so I will see what she thinks. My dog jumped down on me yesterday from the back of our sofa. He didn't hit that area but I think I either jerked or my hand might've hit that area on my radiated breast and it hurt for a few moments. I originally was hoping to get back to work on Wednesday or Thursday but with being more sore, still tired, and the big snow storm, I think I'm going to push it off to Friday at the earliest. We usually don't get much, if any, snow in December. Who knew we would get such a big snowstorm while it is still technically fall!

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

mocame: the soreness will take some time. sounds like everything else is going fairly well. Just keep the doggy at arms distance. :) Can you hold off going back to work until Monday? You have to be careful that with the ice and snow that you don't fall and injury your surgical site. I do love a good snow storm but don't want to have to be out in it getting to work--only playing in it.

  • petite1
    petite1 Member Posts: 2,293

mocame, Take it easy and give it time to heal. Soreness is expected. Before I had cancer, I had 7 biopsies. 4 surgical and 3 needle. How my body recovered from surgery was different each time. Some I couldn't tolerate a bra and some I needed constant support. I guess you have to listen to your body.

Nice this morning, but storms this afternoon.

I had my telehealth appointment yesterday with the NP. She said everything looks great but because of my restrictions and the big storm today, she said I can only go back on Monday. I'm not complaining!!! LOL. The storm is big and we already had 7 inches about 2 hours ago. It's only about 21 degrees and gusty too. They are saying we could have 12 to 20 inches by morning. Ugh!

wow, what a nice snowstorm! I would love to still be in DC and have lots of snow storms since I would not have to go to the office but continue to work from home. We did have a few hours of heavy rain. Tomorrow is supposed to only be a high of 58 but some sun coming back. My mom and niece and I did the hot tub tonight. My mom was complaining that it was too cold outside but when she got in the water, it felt good. I finally have my PCP visit tomorrow. I hope I don't forget my list of problems to discuss with her.

Forgot to share my submission for out office holiday decorating contest. Many others were better than mine but that was the best I could do.

mocame, I am glad you doing well. That does sound like a lot of snow!

Kamboka, nice office. If I has that window in front of me, I probably would be gazing out the window and not at the screen.

Fortunately, none of the family were impacted by the tornado activity in Pinellas County. I am thankful for that.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: Wow, a tornado. We had a lightning alert. I saw one flash but that's all.

mocame: hope things are still going well. Did the snow stay or was the ground too warm to keep it?

I had my PCP visit today. I asked her for a temporary handicap sticker since I'm having a hard time walking. She said "no" but it would make me "lazy". I didn't really take well to that comment. It's hard to get a PCP at Mayo so I'm stuck with her for a little bit.

My grand nephew has recovered from COVID and going back to work. YAY

    Great news about your nephew!

Tomorrow, I start my journey from Jax to TN. We will drive about six hours and then overnight in AL before continuing to TN. Not sure if we can get all our bags and gifts in but we'll try.

Petite1 - I'm so happy your grand nephew is better and going back to work. That's great! I heard there were bad storms down in Florida. I was thinking of you two. Glad they didnt effect you.

Kamboka - I agree with Petite...That was rude and uncalled for. I hope you can get someone else. I love your office and you did a great job decorating. I'm not good at that stuff so I appreciate seeing what other people can do. Have a safe trip to TN.

We ended up getting more sleet/freezing rain then expected so we only got about 8 to 10 inches of snow. I won't complain since they thought it would be a lot more. I got out of the house today for the first time by myself. I got some remaining stocking stuffers and now I'm done! Yay! I'm feeling good enough that I keep forgetting about my restrictions.

I forgot to mention the last post that the NP said I should start applying lotion again after about 4 to 6 weeks after surgery. She said I should do it for 2 to 3 years after radiation because my skin and things can still change that far put from finishing radiation.

Today, I have been cancer free for 1 year. Time flies.

    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

petite1: Congratulations on your landmark date! Before you know it, it will be more and more years.

mocame: Take it easy. Most times we do feel better and overdo it. But, happy you felt good enough to go shopping.

I had a CA marker blood test on Thursday. It was my first one. It came back normal.

We have been on the road for about seven hours as we stopped a lot (normally 5.5 hours) and stopped at our hotel. Tomorrow, we have another 5.5 hours to go.

    mocame Member Posts: 564

    Petite1 - Congratulations on being a year cancer-free!

Kamboka - I'm glad your cancer markers are normal. I've never had that test done. Hope you have a great rest of your trip!

    petite1 Member Posts: 2,293

mocame, I surprised they didn't do the cancer markers after radiation. At least, that is when they did might and the PET scan.

    Kamboka, have a safe trip.

  • kamboka
    kamboka Member Posts: 1,079

My DC MO did not believe in cancer markers so she never ordered them. My new MO wanted to check d/t my continuing bone/joint problems. I'm happy it's normal.

In TN where we had a really nice day. It was 60 degrees and sunny. We will have warmish weather until Christmas Eve. We will only get to high 30s with rain/snow. I managed to leave FL without my winter coat. Luckily, my mom had one of my old coats that I can use for the cold days.

Did you all see the "Star of Bethlehem" which is the aligning of Jupiter and Saturn. Tonight was very clear and I was able to see it. I wished I had a telescope. My brother has one and said he could see the rings around one of the planets.

Kamboka - I had heard that it was to be seen one of these nights but I forgot which day. It is a very cloudy/foggy day here so may not have been able to see it tonight. I'm in bed already and need to get to sleep. Today was the first day back to work and it was busy. No more sleeping in!! I hope you have a good time in TN!!

Hello, Petite1! I hope you had a great day!
